Taylor peeked from behind Zach to get a look at the man. He was fairly young, probably in his early twenties. She noticed that he had two bags of groceries, one under each arm. She would've laughed at his face if the situation wasn't so serious--the guy looked like just saw a huge scary spider.

"Uh, I live here?" the man said, stunned by the flour on the kitchen. "Partly, at least. My cousin is the owner," he explained. "Just who the hell are you and what have you done?"

Zach looked at the man. "Eli has a cousin? This is his mom's old apartment and when she died, Eli got the apartment. Eli has family, but none of them want to talk to him because..." Zach trailed off, nit knowing the reason why. Zach narrowed his eyed at the man. "Eli doesn't have cousins," Zach repeated asinine, knowing that was true. Zach found the neartest thing, a frying pan and raised it. "Who the hell are you?" Zach growled, slowly going towards the man. The man only smiled. "First off, Eli comes here himself to fix anything messed up himself. Who are you?" Zach repeated.

Taylor was starting to get scared. If this man was obviously not a cousin of Eli... Thousands of possibilities swarmed Taylor's mind. Robber... murderer... criminal... Two sixteen-year-olds facing off against someone like that? Taylor was unsure how it would end. She grabbed a half-empty bag of flour as a weapon. How it would function as a weapon, Taylor had yet to find out.

The man smiled, making the whole thing look creepier. He suddenly emptied the bags he was holding and pulled out guns. He aimed them at Zach and Taylor with a crazed look on his face. "This is my place. Mine," the man said eerily, before pulling the trigger.

"Duck!" Taylor screamed as she grabbed Zach's arm and forcefully pulled him to the floor as the bullet sliced through the air above them. Taylor could practically feel the force above her head.

Taylor was now 100% sure that the man was crazy. Gods, they should have locked the door. Crazy people were dangerous. Very dangerous.

When Taylor pulled Zach down, Zach instantly got on top of Taylor, covering her wih his 5 foot, 9 inch frame. Zach looked up at the man. The man smiled again and laughed, setting off he gun again. Zach closed his eyes as the man fired at the wall and ceiling. Zach had no idea what to do. His heart was beaing crazy and Zach was sure that Taylor could hear it through his chest. Oh yeah, Zach was still shirtless. The man laughed and fired the gun again, this time at Taylor. Since Zach was on top of Taylor protecting her, Zach grunted when he felt the bullet graze his arm. Zach closed his eyes again and tried to grow plants or something as the man fired the gun again at Taylor and Zach.

Taylor could hear Zach's heart hammering in his chest. Her own was racing too. She gave a start when a bullet almost hit them but grazed Zach's arm instead. Taylor tried to look around for anything to help them in this situation. She tried to concentrate on freezing the guy's blood like what he did to Hal earlier, but it seemed like she had to be nearer or making contact with him for her to do it. Taylor's eyes found the fridge, a few feet away. There was sure to be ice in there. Taylor started to focus on what was inside the fridge, and pretty soon the fridge door burst open and shards of ice started to fly out towards the man.

Zach saw shard of ice hit the man. The man screamed and fell to the ground, the gun still in his hand. Zach's breathing grew rapid as the man seemed to pass out. Seemed. Zach got off of Taylor and breathed heavily, sweat beading his forehead. Zach hugged Taylor, holding her close to her. Zach's heart wwas still beating rapidly and just holding Taylor seemed to make it a bit better. Zach closed his eyes and tried to calm himself. He snapped his fingers and the grass pulled the gun away from the man in case he woke up or anything.

Taylor was still out of breath when Zach pulled her into his arms. She closed her eyes, trying to regain her composure. She glanced at the seemingly unconscious man. Her eyes widened when he groaned loudly. "What should we do? He's going to wake up any moment now," she whispered to Zach.

Zach took a breath and got up quickly, pulling Taylor up as well. "Run," Zach said simply and pulled Taylor out of the apartment, grabbing her arm. The man woke up, seeing Zach and Taylor run. "Get back here!" The man screamed. Zach pulled Taylor onto the sidewalk and ran with her as Zach could hear the cocking of a gun. Suddenly, the man fired and just kept firing. At the sound of the gun going off, Zach roughly pushed Taylor to the ground and got in top of her again. Zach rather die protecting Taylor then have that man have Taylor in his grasp.

It all happened too fast. Within moments they were all out of the apartment, and Zach had pushed her down to the ground. With her heart hammering away in her chest, Taylor closed her eyes and wished that this was all a nightmare. It was as if the things Phobos had showed her earlier were slowly coming true. Taylor could not let that happen. She just couldn't. Ignoring the pain coming from her already injured upper arm, Taylor tried to devise some sort of plan. The idiotic man still kept on firing, and sooner or later a bullet might hit her or, most especially, Zach. Every second she spent thinking was a second wasted, and probably a second closer to their deaths.

Taylor opened her eyes. She was Taylor Brooks. And the Taylor Brooks she knew could take on anything she put her mind to. With renewed determination, she looked at Zach with a twinkle in her eye. "We are not going to die like this," she told him firmly. By saying it, Taylor seemed to become more confident in turning it to reality. Thinking quickly, she reminded him, "We're outside, Zach. There are trees around."

Zach was too panicked to even register what Taylor said. Zach breathed rapidly and there was a wild light in his eyes. Zach took a deep breath as he heard a small voice in his head. [i]Remember the plants[i]. Zach looked around and saw trees. Zach rolled off of Taylor and stretched his hand out. Vines and grass shot out from the sidewalk and wrapped around the man. The man screamed and shot at the plants. Zach grunted as the man shot the plants. Zach felt like he was getting shot. Zach snapped his fingers and the plants took away the gun, breaking it in half. Zach held his breath as he comand the plants to well, make a tree from the man. The man screamed one last to before bark covered his body. Zach snapped his fingers and the plants went back into the Earth. Zach let out a breath he was holding in and fell back on the cement, his blue-green eyes fluttering close.

Taylor hadn't realized that she was holding her breath as the scene unfolded before her eyes. Once the man was completely enclosed in bark, she slowly made her way towards Zach, realizing that his eyes were on the verge of closing. Taylor was sure that he was just tired, and it was just something that can be solved by a good long rest. "Zach?" Taylor asked softly.

She glanced at the apartment and noticed that it was still sort of near. They can go back. Carefully Taylor placed one of Zach's arms around her shoulders and lifted him up halfway though. She held him by wrapping an arm around his torso and pulled him up. Gasping for breath, Taylor started to move back to the apartment, pulling Zach with her. Gods, he was heavy. Once they were by the door, Taylor hauled Zach in and immediately closed and locked the door. She slumped against it, trying to even her breathing. Taylor has had enough of trespassers. This door was going to stay locked until she says so.

Zach groaned when he felt himself hit the floor of the apartment. Zach rolled over to his side and swatted an imaginary hand away. "Dad I dont wanna drive the tractor," Zach grumbled as his went back to sleep again, probably making a fool of himself. About 30 minutes later, Zach's eyes fluttered open and he sat up quickly, looking for his father. Zach rubbed his eyes and stretched. It was only a dream. Like he could really see his dad again.

Within the 30 minutes Zach spent unconscious, Taylor partially cleaned the kitchen and fried some hotdogs. When she saw that Zach was awake, she walked over to him, holding out a plate with hotdogs and a fork. "Want some?" she offered, she herself nibbling on one. She tried to help him to the couch with one hand. "So... you used to drive a tractor?" Taylor said, smiling as she pushed the plate towards him.

Zach turned a bit red at what Taylor said. "Uh yeah. I used to live on a farm with my dad. I'd drive the tractor some days ortake care of the animals. The one day I didn't drive the tractor, my dad drove it and got into a bad accident. I should have drive it that day," Zach muttered to Taylor as Zach gritted his teeth and his blue-green eyes seemed angry. Zach wasn't mad at Taylor though; he was mad at himself. Zach clenched his face and looked away from Taylor, remembering that day. Zach closed his eyes and counted to ten, trying to calm himself.

Taylor listened silently and when Zach finished, she didn't really know what to say. But she could understand how he felt. So that was why Zach couldn't seem to let go of his past. It would be hard to do so when something like that happened to you. Her expression softened, and she drew closer to Zach and wrapped her arms around him. She tried to put many unspoken things into the hug, as she knew that she wasn't good with words in these kinds of situations. She held him tightly, not wanting to let go. The hug was her way to show him that she cared, that she wanted to comfort him. That she loved him.

Zach felt Taylor's arms around him and Zach buried his face into Taylor's shoulder. He probably looked weak and Zach didn't care. This was his girlfriend. Zach took a shaky breath, trying to calm himself. Zach nodded his head a bit, knowing what Taylor wanted to say but words could never explain it. Zach wished it had been him who died that day really. Zach sighed a bit and looked up at Raylor with his blue-green eyes. "I love you," Zach whispered to Taylor, not knowing if it was too soon for that. But, Zach already had fallen for Taylor. Zach placed both hands on either side of Taylor's face and kissed her lips softly.

Those three words sent shivers down her spine. Taylor's eyes closed on their own as her lips gently moved with his in synchronization. She pulled away slightly to catch her breath. She rested her head on his shoulder, her arms still wrapped around him.

"I love you too, you know," she breathed into Zach's ear, smiling.

Taylor knew that this sounded rushed, but life was just too short to not say 'I love you' to the persons you loved. The life-threatening events a while ago proved that. They just made her realize that they lived in a dangerous world and that each second was too precious to waste. There was a possibility that they could lose each other in the next few hours. After all, no one never knew how and when they would die. Death wasn't something you prepare for. That was why you had to live each day to the fullest, treat every passing day as your last. Because it may as well be.

Zach smiled at Taylor lightly when she said the same thing back. Zach really did love Taylor. He really didn't think he deserved her though. Zach thought she deserved someone better than him. Zach was an ex-gang member who still had his tattoo. He grimanced a bit, thinking that someone else would be better for Taylor. She needed someone who had been good all their life. Zach shook his head, shaking the thought away. Enough of that. Zach grinned at Taylor and he wrapped her arms around Taylor, pulling her close to him. Zach pressed his lips to Taylor's again, one of his hands running through her hair.

Taylor smiled in the kiss. She chuckled lightly as she drew closer to Zach, her hands placed on both sides of his face. Gods, this was... just amazing. What had she done to deserve this? She didn't have an answer and didn't plan to think of one anytime soon, for Taylor was just lost at this time. She was too busy to think of other stuff at the moment.

Zach smiled lightly under the kiss and moved his lips with Taylor. Zach still couldn't get that thought out of his head. Taylor did deserve someone better than Zach. Zach pulled away Taylor, tucking a piece of her dark hair behind her ear. Zach grinned, his blue-green eyes twinkling. "I don't get it? Why do you even love me?" Zach asked Taylor sincerly, biting his lip and looking into her eyes.

Taylor couldn't help but roll her eyes at Zach's question. "Does love need a reason?" she asked him, smiling with her eyebrows raised. She chuckled lightly. "I love you for being you. That's all there is to it," she said, fixing Zach's bangs for him. She paused for a few moments, just staring into his eyes.

Zach smiled lightly at Tayor. "Yeah, but why? Why me? Me, an ex-gang member, the guy who always somehow gets in trouble at camp, and the guy who runs away when things get tough," Zach whispered to Taylor, his hands on either side of her face. Zach smoothed his thumb over Taylor's cheek, smiling lightly. Zach pressed his lips to Taylor's again, before pulling away again, lookng into her deep blue eyes.

Taylor shrugged, but smiled. "I'm dating a gangster," she said, smirking at him. "And I really couldn't care less. Tarzan, you saved my life. Countless times," she said as she started to play with his hair. "And you're nice, you're sweet, you're funny, and you're hot," Taylor added the last part jokingly, chuckling a bit. If she was going to enumerate every single little thing, it was going to take her all night.

Zach smiled lightly at Taylor. "Yeah, I already knew I was hot," Zach joked, a sloppy grin plastered on his face. Zach smiled at Taylor again. Those were pretty good enough reasons for Zach. "Without me, you would have been dead already," Zach teased Taylor with a small smirk. Zach grinned at Taylor once more. "Well, I think you are beautiful. You also have nice hair and you cook pretty well. Your cute, funny, and just plain ol' cutie pie," Zach said, his country accent actually coming out for once. Zach turned red a bit from embarassment.

Taylor smiled widely at the compliments. She blinked at the new accent though. "You have an accent?" she asked, her eyes shining brightly as she leaned closer to him. She laughed, pinching Zach's cheek. "Aww, you're so cute when you turn red," she remarked, slightly chuckling. "I find the accent cute too."
