I put the bag of marshmellows between us and hand her a spear from my bag. Cleaner than a stick. I also put the graham crackers and chocolate there. I start heating the marshmellow over the fire. "Have any scary stories to tell?" I ask her.

" Not really, my life has been pretty boring except for the incident that got me sent to camp " I say

"I was talking about ghost stories but you've piqued my curiosity. So if you would, please tell me that story." I say, putting the marshmellow and a couple squares of chocolate on the graham c*******.

" oh....um okay, Well I was 16 and I was home, it was just me, my brother, and our next door neighbor. I was in my bedroom reading, and I heard a yell, so naturally I ran out of my room and before I even reached them there was blood on the floor, a-and well my brother was dead, The neighbor had turned into a Draecena, and I tried to fight it, I don't really remember the rest, I just woke up in the hospital and the next day my mom sent me to camp " I say sadly

"Sounds awful," I say comfortingly. I remember the many Draecenas I had fought and couldn't imagine a novice trying to defeat one. I had been an only child so I had no idea how it felt to lose a brother but I did know what it was like to lose someone close to you.

" yeah it was hard and then my mother died a month ago from cancer so i'm alone in the world" I say qietly
I look at the trees nervously

"You're never alone," I say, "none of us are. We are in the middle of a camp full of people. You have me and your half-sisters and all the other people. And a lot of them have got a similar story to your's."

" I dont really have any one close to me though most of my half sisters have best friends o boyfriends to support and comfort them, in that sense I have no one" I say quietly

"Then simply take comfort in the little things." I say, "it's what I do. I understand how you feel and I felt the same way for the longest time as well when my parents died."

I smile. "Here," I say getting up and holding a hand out to her, "I've fought countless monsters. If any attack us I'll protect you."

"I suppose camp can get boring at times," I say smiling, "sometimes it is good to just get back in touch with nature. And it is even better with company."

I hear a noise and look around " thats weird I thought I saw a hydra, probably my imagination" I say

"Hydras are next to extinct," I say, "more likely just a snake if it was anything at all. But don't worry. Hydra or snake I said I will protect you."

"No," I say, "the forest is beautiful at night but also fairly frightening. I do not blame you for being a tad scared."
