He couldn't help the grin that broke out of his face. "You're betting that you'll lose? So if you do lose, does that mean that you win or you lose?" he asked philosophically, cocking one eyebrow at her. Jonathan didn't give her a chance to reply before he rushed towards her and easily snatched the ball away. He might not be a jock, but he was still a slightly good player. Smiling, he kept on dribbling as he stepped away from Ronnie. "Piece of advice. Don't let your guard down."

I laughed as the ball was taken from my grasp. I feignted going to the the right, and easily snatched the ball from the left.
I might not be good at basketball, but I could get the ball.
'Well, if I lose, I win the bet. If you lose, then I lose the bet...very confusing,' I smiled, starting to run to the basket.

Jonathan grinned in spite of his carelessness. He should really listen to his own advice. Running over as Ronnie headed for the basket, he assumed a defensive stance and blocked her before she could get too close. "So if I win the game, you also win the bet?" he questioned further, a hint of a laugh in his tone. "Weeeeeell... good luck getting through me then," he said, his six-foot tall frame towering over her.

I laughed loudly, and grinned. He was so tall, it was inpossible for me to try get past, or the ball over him. I concentrated for a moment, and then rearranged my face into a sly smile. Quickly, I feignted to throw. Then, I threw the ball to the left and tried to catch it. I didn't though and the ball left the court.
'Your ball,' I chuckled. Oh well.

Jonathan couldn't help but laugh as the ball slipped from Ronnie's fingers. It took him a few moments to pick it up before he dribbled his way back to court, getting the feel of it. A strange sense of elation washed over him as he handled the orange ball. It had been so long since his last game and he just realized how basketball reminded him of the world outside camp. Of how he lived his life as a mortal before, and how much he missed it.

"How many times have you played?" he asked casually. He shuffled on his feet to confuse her as he went for the hoop.

I thought for a moment.
'Well...I've been playing since I came to camp, but I was on a team for a few month's before. I'm not good at it though. I spent most of my time being the mascot. They didn't want me near "potentially dangerous balls",' I quoted, laughing at the memory.
'I'm such a clutz, that I would have probably killed someone,' I let him pass.
I got confused on which way he was going, and I ended up just standing there, hoping I was in the right place.

Spotting the right opportunity, Jonathan sidestepped around the girl and ran for the ring before she could have a chance to respond. The ball left his hands and zoomed straight towards the hoop, scoring before bouncing away. Grinning, Jonathan picked it up and passed it to Ronnie.

"Well, I've never heard of people dying because of basketball," he said, laughing. "Thought you'd be a cheerleader instead of a mascot anyway. Your ball."

I snorted at the idea of me running around with pompoms and singing. I caught the ball and lined up my shot. The ball and threw it. The orange blur hit the back board, but unbelievably, spun on the rim before falling in.
'Yay me!,' I squeled,'I got it in!..As for the whole me being a cheerleader, well that was what Grace did. She was head cheerleader, and she brought the team to state championships. They came second. When they brought me to the basketball championships, we didn't place at all,' I laughed and passed the ball in a bounce pass to him.

Nodding approvingly, Jonathan caught the ball with the tips of his fingers and bounced it a bit, wondering how to go about his next throw. "'Grats! Haha, guess that does sound like Grace, considering that she's one of my siblings." He took a deep breath, focused his weight on his toes and threw the ball, aiming for a three-pointer. Sadly all the ball did was bounce off the rim. "Oh well... worth a shot."

I ran and picked up the ball. As I walked back to the spot where I would throw, I sensed that someone was behind me. I turned and was instantly enveloped in a massive hug.
'Oh Ronnie! I'm so sorry! I promise to never do it again,' Grace squeled.
I pushed her off, and slightly gagging from her perfume, I looked at her.
'No, you see you will do it again. There's no point saying you won't,' I said, making to turn away.
'No! I won't. At least I'll try not to. Please forgive me,' she said grabbing my shoulder.
I looked at her. Then I gave her a hug.
'Of course I forgive you,' I whispered.
'Yay! Now, we should go sho- Who's this then,' She said, pushing past me and walking over to Jonathan.
'Hello? This was our touching reconciliation moment!,' I said, but I wasn't stopping her.
'Who are you? Who's your parent? And why are you here with Ronnie?' She asked him, taking no prisoners.
I looked at him and mouthed, So sorry! She'll get bored in a minute, hoping he would spot it.

Jonathan's laughs ceased when the girl started drawing closer to him. He gulped a little, not expecting this. She's like a... mother... he thought to himself as he focused his attention on the new girl. She seemed vaguely familiar... "Jonathan, son of Aphrodite," he said, his voice an octave higher. He cleared his throat as he took a step back, unsure if the girl was dangerous. "We're just playing ball, that's all..." He looked over at Ronnie, his eyes pleading for help as he caught her unspoken words. He just hoped they were true.

Jonathan seemed nervous and that was not good. Grace was one of those people, who if she was a dog, her bite would definatly be worse then her bark.
'All the good-looking ones are my brothers,' she muttered,'well, lucky for you, I don't believe in beating on my relations. Grace Moon, Daughter of Aphrodite, Ronnie's cousin. Nice to meet you,' she smiled then, and let go of her hard exterior.
I quickly came to stand at the side of the two, making sure Jonathan was okay, and keeping an eye on Grace.
'Jonathan, she won't bite. She's actually pretty...okay,' I said, trying to reassure him, but with Grace here it was hard to do that.
'Veronica would say that...especially with her boyfriend here. But I can be pretty not okay too,' she said, raising her eyebrow.
'No..we're not...you got the wrong end of the stick...just friends,' I managed to get out.
Grace looked at me and then back to Jonathan. She was actually messing around now, but he might not know that.

Relieved, Jonathan smiled warmly, still feeling a little wary towards Grace. "Ah, so you're Grace. Ronnie's mentioned you a few times," he said, casting a quick glance at the daughter of Apollo. Struck by a strange sense of deja vu when Grace mentioned the word 'boyfriend,' he was quick to come to both his and Ronnie's defense.

"We're friends... just friends..." he trailed off, knowing that if Grace was anything like Alex she was definitely not going to believe it. And she did remind him of Alex, sort of...

'I bet you she told you how I'm her best friend, and her hottest cousin,' she said, wiggling her eyebrows.
I shook my head, embarrased.
'Wouldn't be too hard when your my only cousin. Sorry Jonathan. She's just well...strange,' I said, before getting smacked around the head.
'Well Jonathan, "just friends"? Sure,' she said winking.

Laughing a little as Grace smacked Ronnie on the head, Jonathan shifted uncomfortably on his feet. He felt something nudge his heel and looked, smiling when he realized that it was the basketball rolling towards him. "Yeah well..." he started, picking it up and spinning it around his finger. "Anyway, we've just met a few days ago. Just friends, yeah."

Grace laughed. Gods, she's so annoying, I thought to myself. But I quickly gave myself a mental slap. At least she apoligized.
'Okay. Just friends. Right. are you any good at basket ball?' she asked, already moving on thank the Gods.
I smiled, and looked at Jonathan.
She'll probably get bored and leave now, I mouthed.

Relieved at the change of subject, Jonathan laughed a little at Ronnie's silent message before shifting back to his half-sister. "Dunno. A bit? I only play for fun," he said with a slight shrug, tossing the ball upwards before catching it with both hands.

He paused a little, hesitating. Hm, why not make small talk by directing the flow of the conversation to Grace? "So, um, Ronnie tells me you're a great cheerleader." Girls always welcomed compliments. They were great topic starters, he thought. Grace looked like it wouldn't take a lot to get her going on about something and he was completely fine with it, considering that he was more of as a listener than anything.

I suppresed a giggle when Jonathan started about cheerleading. He honestly didn't know what he was getting into.
'Oh my Gods! I so am! Did she tell you that I brought the team to state championships and we came second? Of course she didn't! Well you see we were..' she gushed, but I blocked her out.
I sidestepped over to Jonathan and smiled.
'She could go on for a bit. Would you like me to try get rid of her? I could axe murder here and now, and no-one would be none the wiser,' I chuckled.

Ah, he was right. It sure looked like he didn't need to do anything now besides smile and nod at the right moments. Ronnie caught his attention though, cutting off his line of thoughts as he glanced at her. Trying to hold back a laugh at her suggestion, he grinned back. "That sounds like a good idea," he jokingly whispered with a wink, but not without hastily adding, "But nah, she's still your cousin and my half-sister. I also don't believe in beating my relations."

I laughed and Grace looked over.
'Are you listening? I know you think you know everything, but you don't!' she said glaring at me.
'Well, how about this. You leave now. Yes?' I said, returning the glare.
'What? Why? What?...Fine. I want to go shopping anyway,' she laughed.
Grace rushed over and gave me a massive hug.
'We'll talk later,' she whispered in my ear.
Then she rushed over to Jonathan. Grace hugged him, and unbeknown to me, whispered something in his ear.
'I swear to our divine mother, she's the nicest person you could find. And remember. If you hurt her I will beat you to death with a shoval. A mild disclaimer is nobodys friend'.With that she smiled and walked back to me.
'Have fun!' she called as she left.
I sighed and walked back to him. Then I smiled.
'The dragon is gone. Praise the Gods,' I said.

A little disoriented at his half-sister's words, Jonathan hadn't realized that he was still staring at her as she walked away. What had she meant by that? Well, most certainly something along the lines of romance, but... he and Ronnie... they were just friends, right? Before he could ponder on this strange new development, Ronnie spoke and he snapped back to reality. "Hallelujah," he intoned, chuckling. Trying to keep off the nagging feeling in his mind, he started to bounce the ball again. "She isn't too bad, I guess. Really bubbly though, I can tell as much."

I narrowed my eyes for a moment, but as soon as I had, it was gone. What had she done? There was something different there. I shook it off though.
'She's more then bubbly. She's like...a bottle of coke when you shake it. Uncontrolable,' I laughed.
Then, I tried to catch the bal, but failed.
'Oh well. Worth a try,' I chuckled.

Jonathan laughed at the similarity as he swerved around her, throwing the ball and watching in disappointment as it bounced off the rim and ended up outside the court. "Yeah," he said, picking the ball up and passing it to her. "Must be nice to be compared to soda," he added with another laugh, turning just in time to see an orange blur speed across his field of vision, catching the ball in mid-air before slowing down into a jog.

"Heyo! Didn't think I'd find you over here," Simon said, grinning as he clapped his friend on the back. The son of Hecate then went into a running jump and did a slam dunk. Smiling, he turned back to the other two and bowed courteously for his short performance. That was when he noticed Ronnie.

"Whoa whoa whoa... Athan! Why didn't you tell me you had such a pretty friend over here?" he asked, drawing closer to the girl, all smiles. "Hi. I'm Simon and I'm perfectly glad to be acquainted with such a lovely lady like you," he started, bowing again in front of Ronnie in a gentlemanly manner.

Jonathan grinned at the sight of him but sighed all the while, knowing how Simon can be. Walking over to the two of them with the ball back in his clutches, he stopped in the middle of them and subconsciously cast a wary glance in Simon's direction before turning back to Ronnie, a reassuring smile on his face.

I laughed, smiling.
'Hello Simon. Lovely to meet you. I'm Veronica Lyric, Daughter of Apollo,' I said, doing a little curtsey.
I looked at Jonathan and smiled. I raised my eyebrow, hoping he would understand that I meant it was okay. If he was a friend of Jonathan's, then he must be okay.

Jonathan watched Simon smile back. "Son of Hecate, by the way," he said, tipping his head to the side quickly and flipping his hair back in the process. He threw a wink at Ronnie's direction, making Jonathan a little uncomfortable.

"Sup?" he asked, trying to divert Simon's attention. It worked, thankfully, as Simon looked over.

"Not much," he responded with a slight shrug, but it didn't last long as Simon glanced back at Ronnie. "So! Wanna hang out sometime?"

Jonathan's eyes narrowed a little. "Simon..." he started warningly, and realization dawned on the son of Hecate's face and he smiled sheepishly.

"Right. Haven," he mumbled more to himself, before breaking into a fit of laughter. "Sorry, man. I'm just not used to it... for now. Commitment issues. Glad I have you to straighten me up!" he said, beaming as he ruffled Jonathan's hair. Jonathan smiled back hesitantly. Why had he stopped Simon in the first place? Was it because Simon already had a girlfriend? Or was it for a completely different reason? He shook his head vigorously, trying not to dwell on these kinds of thoughts.

Jonathan was so absorbed in his thoughts that he almost missed Simon's question, his attempt at a conversation with the daughter of Apollo. "So, Ronron, you've been here long?"
