After my dreaming,
I woke with this fear.
What am I leaving when I'm done here?

Caleb was thinking.

He sat cross-legged by the lake, his face leaning on his hands. His hazel eyes were properly hidden from view, courtesy of the shades he was now accustomed to wearing. His dark brown hair was spiky in the front, with him occasionally running it over with his hand and making sure that it stayed spiky like that.

Caleb stared at the vast lake before him, but his mind was elsewhere. Sighing to himself, Caleb stuffed his hand into his pocket and pulled out a small cube. He let the cube roll around his fingers for a while just for something to do. It was a small die, given to him by JC a while back. He hadn't really seen the boy after their nasty encounter in the arena, but this die always seemed to remind Caleb of JC, who proclaimed him as his 'friend.' Caleb snorted at the thought. The die rolled around his hand, eventually falling down to the lake with a small splash. Caleb wasn't at all bothered by this fact. Within a few moments he reached for his pocket and sure enough, the die was back there good as new. Whatever magic JC put in this die made it reappear in Caleb's pocket every time he tried to dispose of it.

With another sigh, Caleb took out the die. Feeling frustrated all of a sudden, he threw the thing behind him with as much force as he could muster. It gave him a strange sense of relief, throwing the thing away, but then the relief was replaced was surprise when he realized that he had not heard the die fall back to the ground.

Meaning he probably hit someone with the die. Or that someone behind him must have caught it. With his eyebrows raised, Caleb half-turned to see what exactly happened.

Aria sighed as she walked down to the lake. She wasn't really looking at her feet though. This meant that she somehow tripped over her own feet. She thudded to the ground and started cursing herself in Ancient Greek. When she got up again she saw a die speeding towards her. Taken by surprise Aria zapped it with lightning. The grey dust that used to be the die floated down to the ground. Aria glanced up and saw a guy looking at her, or rather behind him. She didn't recognise him, but that didn't mean much. Aria didn't meet lots of people around camp. "Sorry I zapped your die."she said apologetically.

Caleb shrugged as his gaze lingered on the grey ashes that was once his die. "A daughter of Zeus," he muttered to himself as he looked up at the girl's face. "Well, lucky it was just a die. If it was breathing, then you would've already killed it," he said nonchalantly.

A few moments passed and Caleb reached for his pocket. Frowning, he stuffed his hand in and pulled out the same die as if nothing happened to it. What was going to take to destroy this thing? Caleb was already getting pretty annoyed as he let the die roll around his fingers. "Ah well, you tried," he told the girl, tossing the die upwards repeatedly.

"I would have stopped the lightning if it had been a person." Aria said. "But since it was a die I just couldn't be bothered." Aria's eyes widened as the guy pulled out the exact same die. How did that happen? "My name's Aria. As you've probably guessed I'm a daughter of Zeus." If he hadn't guessed that already then this guy wasn't all that bright.

Caleb nodded once to show he had heard. "I'm Caleb," he said, not missing how Aria's eyes widened when he pulled out the die. He was amused by her reaction. Well, he did expect her to be surprised.

"Some kid jinxed it. It always comes back to my pocket no matter what happens," he explained, looking disdainfully at the die. He carelessly tossed it back to Aria.

Aria caught the die easily. She examined it carefully. There didn't seem to be anything special about it physically. It was just a regular die. She drew back her arm and chucked it into the lake. Since Aria had a good throwing arm it sailed quite far through the air before plopping into the lake. She waited for a few moments before turning back to Caleb. "Is it back in your pocket?" she asked. It probably would be since it was jinxed, but she might as well try.

Caleb couldn't help but chuckle at Aria's attempt to throw the die to the lake. "Tried that too," he said, smirking at her. He touched his pocket and shook his head before taking out the small die.

"Told you it's jinxed," he said, showing her the die. Caleb sighed, looking at the object as if he was mesmerized by the sight. "Sadly it doesn't seem like I can get rid of it. Stupid kid. Stupid die," he muttered the last parts to himself as he closed his hand over the die, gripping it with all his strength.

Aria frowned. The kid who had jinxed it must have some serious power. Or maybe they got a god to do it for them. Not likely, but it could still happen. "If you don't mind me asking, why did he jinx it in the first place?" He might not want to answer her and that was fine. Aria was just a bit curious. She didn't like not knowing things.

Normally Caleb would tell her to mind her own business, but a look at the die just made him feel all sentimental. He just couldn't get that event out of his head, when he and JC sparred. The fight seemed to leave him more than just a bloody wound on his shoulder. Caleb sighed.

"He's a son of Tyche," Caleb began. He paused, not knowing how to explain it. "We had a row and fought, not only in words mind you," Caleb said, unconsciously rubbing his shoulder. "And in the end, he told me that I was his friend, then chucked this thing at me," he said, flicking the die towards the lake. He said 'friend' in a weird way, like he wasn't used to mentioning it often.

"Um okay." Aria said. What else was she supposed to say. A guy said that he was Caleb's friend and then chucked a random die at him? Aria went and flopped down beside Caleb. She was getting tired of standing up. Plus, it bored her. "So did you fight physically as well as emotionally?" she asked.

Caleb could see from Aria's tone that he wasn't really good at explaining the event, but what can he say? He still felt a little odd when remembering JC and his antics. Sentimental, maybe? Caleb tensed, just thinking about it.

Caleb raised his eyebrows at Aria. How many more ways were there to fight besides with words? Maybe Caleb hadn't been obvious enough, or Aria was just slow. "Uh, yeah," Caleb said slowly, not knowing how to put it without sounding sarcastic.

"I see." Aria said, nodding sagely. She'd already suspected that since Caleb rubbed his shoulder whenever he was talking about their little argument. Somehow Aria didn't think that was a coincidence. He'd probably been injured there or something.

Not really knowing what else to say, Caleb nodded at Aria before turning his gaze back to the lake. He had talked too much, Caleb realized. He never got this far without throwing any criticism, insult or anything of that sort. That was certainly something new. Caleb kept on throwing the die to the lake, trying to see how far he could throw the thing. His arm was beginning to get sore, but he didn't really care.
