Going to Meet the Parent {James and Kar}

"I told him over the phone. He wasn't too happy, but I was acting very happy, so he went along with it." I was getting nervous. Would dad even let James in the house? Would dad make James sleep at a hotel? Would I get in trouble with my dad? I was a little young to be engaged, I'll admit. Especially after only knowing each other for two days. I found my cellphone and called my dad.

"Karou?"
"Hi daddy." I smiled.
"We're almost there. Get ready. Do you want to speak with James?" I was about to hand James the phone when he said:

"No. I will have nice little chat with him when he gets here dear." I could hear the distaste in his voice.

This was going to be a lonnnnnggggg trip.

I reached my hand out for the phone when she asked, but evidently he said no, because she hung up instead. Butterflies were starting to come into my stomach. "I'm assuming he doesn't like me already?" I say.

Would I have to stay in a hotel?
of course not, he seems like a solid man
Where would I sleep?
... You can afford a hotel.

"No. He just wants to have a talk with you when we get there, instead of having it over the phone." I was very nervous. We landed and the next time me and James talked to each other was at the luggage carousol. "So, you ready to meet my dad?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." I say, kissing her one last time. We go, and she unclocks the door with her key. She walks in ahead of me, I stay back waiting to be invited in.

"Come on. He doesn't bite." I whisper. I turn around to be face to face with my dad. "Hi daddy!" I hugged him. "I missed you so much!" He hugged me and look over my shoulder at James. I could tell he didn't want me engaged yet, but I loved James. I separated from my dad then walked over to James, grabbing his hand and pulling him in the house. "Daddy, this is James, my fiancee."

"Nice to finally meet you sir," I say shaking his hand firmly, "and thank you for allowing me to visit." He looked at the man. He didn't seem too old, maybe a bit older than middle aged. His hair was thinning in places, but altogether he looked more like a businessman.

((OOC: Who's going to 'play' for the dad. You, me, or both?))

OOC: Both..just remember what Kar said about him. Hes strict and doesn't like kar having boyfriends or guy friends

"Hello, James. I assume you're treating my daughter right. No problem letting you visit. I would like to talk to you in my office later. Privately. " My dad said eyeballing me at the end. "Umm I'm going to go show James the guest bedroom." I grabbed James' hand and walked him up the stairs. "You did good. Just try and think of what you're going to say in the office later."

"Good call. What do you think he'll ask me?" I say with concern. He could ask me anything from 1 question, to every little thing I've ever done good or bad. So, I had to prepare. "What does he do for a living?"

" He is the senator. So, be careful please." I kissed him then left the room. I walked down the stairs then into the living room. "What are you reading daddy?" I asked him. He was reading the newpaper. "Some story about a little boy who got kidnapped by a women who was completely made of dirt apparently. Pathetic." I ran back upstairs and opened James door.

I put my suitcase on the bed, and was admiring the view from my window. England was beautiful, the architecture and agriculture was impeccable. Kar walked in, and I assumed she wanted me to join her downstairs, so I did.

I walked downstairs and sat on the couch next to Kar. Her father put down his newspaper and stared at me for a minute, then questioningly asked me, "So James, how did you and Kar meet?"

Good, and easy one. "Well, we meet when I first got to camp about a year ago. I was new, and she introduced me to the town. We were friends for a while, but we eventually started dating." I say, looking over at Kar for approval.

I smiled. He was doing good. My dad looked satisfied and had put down his newspaper so that was a good sign. I turned my head towards James and mouthed "great". I moved to the chair across the room so James and my dad could talk more "privately".

"So, you guys have known each other for a while now, that's good." Crap, I think I just realized, I don't even know her last name. But he readjusted himself, and was looking very interested in me now, as if something had changed in him. "So, who is your um...God, parent?" He says.

This was going to make him very happy. "Athena." I say, looking very proud. He looks at me and says, "Ah, the Goddess of Wisdom. Very good, very good. And any mortal family?" I tense up. I could always tell him the truth. "Well, my dad is a 5-time Nobel prize winner, but he passed some time ago." I say, Good, I think, Just stick to the truth. "I also had a brother, but he also recently passed."

"Oh, well I'm sorry to hear that." he says, looking into my eyes, as though he can see something in them that I'm not telling him.

I was figeting with my fingers while listeing to there conversation. James was doing good. He didn't know alot of personal things about me though. I was getting a bit worried so I left the room to go make dinner for all of us. I grabbed some chicken out of the frezzer and put it in the sink with some hot water to thaw it out. While that was thawing I made some seasoning then went back into the living room while.

"So, what are your plans for College, James?" He asked me. We had covered almost everything to do with me. Even I was getting tired of myself. "Well, I'm going to major in Law and business, and minor in accounting. I plan on being a lawyer short-term, and a Judge long-term."

I didn't truly plan on being a Lawyer, if anything I was just going to enjoy life. But he seemed comfortable with that answer.

I looked up at Kar and exaggerated my eyes as if to say 'HELP ME.'

I stiffled a laugh then mouthed "You're on your own, buster." I plopped down into the message chair and turned the heat on. "Awwww."Then the message kicked in. "Aowowoowoow." I smiled at my dad and James when they looked over at them. I was glad my dad liked James. I couldn't wait till dinner was ready, then we'd have another huge conversation. I needed to talk to James before that though. "Dad, I need to borrow James in the kitchen." I got up, shuting off the chair and grabbing James' hand trailing him behind me to the kitchen. "I need to know exactly what you told him. Everything. He's going to ask me questions at dinner."

"Okay, um... We've kissed before, but not a lot. I've taken you out to the movies, and we go out to dinner a lot. My last name is Luster, I plan on being a Lawyer.
We plan on having kids, but not til we're both out of college. My father died of old age, and my brother died in a freak car accident. If he wants proof, that was the cover-story in the paper. I grew up and lived in St.Louis and moved here, only when the monsters started coming too much.
I've never been to jail, broken the law, had a drink of alcohol, smoked or done drugs. I haven't gotten around to telling him that I'm a millionaire, but I was planning on announcing it over dinner.
By the way, what is your dad, Republican or Democrat? I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to agree with him." I say, that pretty much covered everything.

"Okay. Got it. Oh and my dads a republican. Always has been." I grabbed some vegtables out of the fridge and took them over to the cutting board. "So you told him we don't kiss alot huh? What a total lie." I smiled. "Can you cut these for me? Last time I cut vegtables I nearly lost my finger." I took the chicken out of the sink and riped open the package, then began to slice it into strips. I felt James' arm's wrap around waist, then he kissed my neck.

"Yeah, what a lie." I turn her around and start kissing her on the lips. I go back to cutting up the vegetables as she said. After I'm done I go back into the living room, to continue the conversation with her father.

"What did she need you for?" he says, a stern look on his face. "Just, needed some help cooking." He looks pleased by this statement and continues to question me, "So, do you have a job yet?" No. I don't "Actually, I work at this Italian restaurant down the street from camp." I say.

I could hear their conversation from the kitchen. We would both have to get jobs if we wanted to get married. I put the chicken in the oven and started fixing the vegatables that James chopped. I thought about what James had already told my dad. We planned on having kids, we've kissed before, he takes me out to dinner alot. I walked back into the living room and James was still talking to my dad. They laughed a little bit then my dad went back to being serious. I wasn't nervous anymore. My dad seemed to like James.

"So James, you seem like a nice man. Where did you live before you went to camp?" He says. "St.Louis," I say, as he cuts me off, "Ah, the Gateway to the West. I've been there before, it's very nice. I hoped you stayed out of trouble while you were there?"

"Yes. I had some offers to do some bad things, but my brother did a good job at keeping me off the streets." I say, a bit proud of myself. "I see. Now, let me hear more about your father, you said he was a Nobel Prize Winner?"

"Yes, he achieved all of them at one point. but sadly, immense intelligence comes with it's down-faults, he was always out on business, or in his study working." Or in the couch, passed out and drunk. I think to myself.

I grabbed my IPod out of my pocket and put an earbud in my ear and set it on shuffle. My guilty pleasure came on. Miranda Cosgrove's Kissing You. I turned it up as loud as it could go and sung in a almost a whisper and closed my eyes.

When the song finished I opened my eyes and my dad and James were both staring at me.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing." Her father and I say at the same time. I smile a bit, but her father just flashes me a stern look. He looks back over at Kar and asks, "Smells good honey. When will it be done?"

"Uhh," I check the time on my IPod, 6:57. "Right now actually." I get up off the chair and walk into the kitchen. It does smell good. I smile to myself, satisfied with my cooking. I put on some oven mits and grabbed the chicken out of the oven, carrying it to the counter and placing it on plates. James and my dad walked through the kitchen and into the dinning room. I had a special set up on the table and then brought the food in. I sat next to James and held his hand under the table.

"So, before we eat, I have a few questions I'd like to ask the both of you." I look at her, worried. But she replies with a small smile is if to say, It's okay, we got this. I look back at her father who says, "First, why are you getting married so young?"

"Well," I say, "I asked her to marry me, because, I love your daughter with all my heart. I would die if it was the only way to save her life. We've been through a lot together, and she's helped me through a lot."

Now I look at Kar. I squeeze her hand a little as if to say Your turn.

I was nervous. "Well, what James said is very true. We both love each other and want to spend the rest of our lives together." I smiled at James and my father then excused myself. I needed time to think. What was I going to do? I wanted this to go right. I was screwing it up. I texted Charity. Help me! I'm screwing this up. I'm screwing up me and James' chances of getting married. I pressed send then put my IPod back in my pocket. I walked back to the table and sat next to James. They were in the middle of a conversation. "Then when I was potty trainging Kar she would make this face, and make a grunting noise." "DAD!" I shouted. They both looked at me. "You're embaressing me!"
