Looking in the mirror, I tugged at my dress a bit and lightened my eyes to a steel grey. My stomach was churning with nervousness as I took one last look in the mirror and walked outside, sitting on the cabin porch. My dress was a simple blue strapless and I had paired small silver heels and a silver tennis bracelet with it.

Kyle would be here any moment then we would be on our way to the Winter Ball. This would be my first dance with a date. What if I screwed it up? So many things could go wrong tonight.

Kelyn's Dress

I gulped, and opened the door to the Hephaestus cabin. I slowly made my way over to the Hermes cabin, and saw Kelyn already waiting for me on the porch. My mouth fell open a bit.

She was wearing a stunning blue dress with silvery heels that seemed to go with her beautiful eyes. I looked down at myself. I was only wearing the usual thing that guys wear. A black tuxedo. My hair was still a bit smoothed out, but it refused to stay that way. I looked up and started up the stairs to the porch. "Hey," I said, trying not to think about the fact that she could get anyone.

"Hi Kyle," I said a bit shyly. Standing up, I met him half way down the steps. "You look dashing," I complimented with a smile.

It seemed rather hard to believe that he hadn't already found a date. "I'm going to be the luckiest girl there! Are you ready to go?" I asked him with a subtle bat of my eyes. I had applied a light coat of glittered eyelashes to draw attention to my silvery eyes and my eyelashes were longer and darker.

My heart beat loudly against my chest as I took her arm in mine.

"Let's go," I responded, escorting her to the ball. I pushed open the doors and the loud music hit me. It blared from the DJ and people danced and talked and laughed. Punch bowls stood at the south end and streamers and real, enlarged snowflakes hung from the ceiling, showering the place in a silvery light. It was pretty amazing.

As he pushed open the doors and the music and noise hit me, my breath caught in my chest. It was absolutely amazing. Everything was lovely. It was snowing on the dance floor and the suspended snowflakes looked almost real.

My heart was pounding as I stepped into the room. I was so nervous. "It looks like a fairytale in here!" I told Kyle, in awe of it all

I looked around for a bit, taking in the surroundings. "Yeah, I guess it does," I responded. I hadn't really thought about that, but it kind of did look like a fairy tail. Not one of those cheesy fairy tales but like a legit beautiful fairy tale. I took her hand in mine, trying to make sure she wasn't lost in the crowd of people. I wasn't sure what we did now. Dance, or talk or what. I wasn't very social.

The song morphed into a true dance song and I smiled. I knew and loved this song. "Stereo Love" by Edward Maya. "I love this song!" I told him.

Knowing Kyle wasn't exactly the most outgoing person, I took his hand and led him to the dance floor. "Dance with me?" I asked starting to move with the beat. Dancing was something I had always enjoyed and I was fairly good after eleven years of dance lessons. I knew how to find the beat and just flow with it

I walked to the dance floor with her. My heart thumped though the noise made it feel like it was a penny being dropped. I gulped and nervously messed with my sleeves. "I can't dance," I told her. It was the oldest excuse ever, but most of the time, it was true. Like right now. I may have nimble and delicate hands, but on my feet, I was as clumsy as ever.

"Everyone can dance, Kyle!" I said with a laugh. I had kind of expected something like this. Kyle was kind of shy and he seemed to lack confidence. He was very modest and humble. I really liked that about him but sometimes he needed to just let go. Seriously.

"Here, follow my lead okay?" I said taking his hands. This song had a bit of a more international feel to it. "Move your hips and relax," I said confidently. Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing. I had never really danced casually with a guy and I was not by any means qualified to teach it. "Step out to the left, then the right, and the left again," I said each time doing the opposite. We didn't look that bad compared to some of the other groups and couples. We were actually with the beat and still dancing clean. Hopefully, it would be a slower song after this one. That would be a whole lot easier

I gulped and danced with her, stumbling here and there, but eventually I got it. Kind of. I tried to keep with her and I couldn't help but look at my feet from time to time. I hated wearing this. I wished we could kind of just wear regular clothes and go to a diner then kiss in the back alley or something like normal people. Or at least that's what I thought they did. When I came back to reality, I noticed I was dancing almost...good. I couldn't help my smile just a bit.

I laughed and danced the rest of the song with him, occasionally looking down at his feet. I wished our first date had been something a bit more casual but tonight was amazing so far. I felt like a princess. Not that kind that has to be rescued every two seconds, but like a legit, grand princess who got to dance with her prince.

Eventually though, the music started to morph into a slower song. Too soon. I was afraid he wouldn't want to dance to this anymore.

I looked up, trying not to show my fear as a slow song came on. My heart froze. I looked at Kelyn for help, hoping I wouldn't have to tell her I needed it. This was so embarrassing.

I saw the fear in his eyes and couldn't help a small smile. I pulled his hands to my waist and held them there for a moment before putting my arms around his neck. "Forward, forward, left, left, turn right, right." I said quietly, guiding his feet. "There. your getting it!" I encouraged.

My hands tingled when the touched her hips. As I danced, I felt like a blundering idiot beast that was being taught a new trick. But I tried to push away that thought and focus more on the event and how nice it was. "I have a question," I said, over the music, but only loud enough for her to hear.

"Yes? What is it, then?" I asked curiously. The dance floor was starting a bit crowded, uncomfortably so. I thought about asking if he wanted to go outside. It would give us some privacy and fresh air. I was nervous about what he was going to ask.

I gulped, feeling nervous. The noise was sort of over whelming and the people started to bother me. "When you asked me to the lake. W-was that, uh...was that a date?" I asked, trying not to sound needy. My palms began to sweat, and a wave of relief washed over me when the song ended. I quickly removed my hands and wiped them on my pants. When she wasn't watching.

"Well...no, it wasn't. Just spending time at the lake with an amazing friend. Unless you wanted it to be a date... Can we go outside? It is a bit crowded right now and I could use some fresh air," I said getting uncomfortable with all the people and I could tell he was too. I took his hand so as not to lose him. We weren't too far from the entrance. I pushed open the door and felt almost instantly better as the cool air hit me.

I looked up and noticed it was already almost dark. I guess we had been in there for thirty minutes maybe. I felt stupid. Did she think i was stupid? "I don't know. I think," I hesitated. Had I just been stupid this whole time? Maybe she just asked me cause she needed a date. "I guess I thought it kind of was," I finished.

"Well, I know I had a ton of fun with you and I wanted to spend more time with you," I said blushing, "I can assure you that this is most definitely a date, Kyle!" He looked a bit doubtful but I wasn't quite sure of what.

Standing on my toes, I kissed his lips quickly and turned a bit redder. I had been wanting to do that for about a week now. "When I said I liked you, I really meant it. I wouldn't ever use you like some of my sisters would..." I told him with a smile.

I felt a small smile play across my lips and I felt like Eros's arrow had pierced me. She just kissed me. That did not happen every day.I held her hands as a cold wind tingled my back. "I like you too," I told her. I liked the privacy, but I also wanted to go and dance with her some more. This was by far the best winter dance I had ever been to. It was the only one. No one ever wanted to come with me to a dance.

I was standing about a half pace away from the wall, with Kyle in front of me, blocking a majority of the wind. But I was still freezing cold. I shivered involuntarily, wishing I had brought a jacket. I was rather enjoying the privacy though.

Suddenly, a thought popped in my head. "Yesterday, when I asked you to the ball, stumbling like an idiot...was your sister there the whole time? She heard it all, didn't she? There wasn't many people there, was there?" I asked as my cheeks started to color again.

I noticed her shivering. It was kind of cold, but after all the hours in the armory, the cold felt good. "Well, yeah. She was," I responded, my hands in my pockets. I felt my cheeks turn pink from the cold, along with my ears.

"Oh my gosh! I looked like an idiot! Did she say anything after I left?" I asked embarrassed. My cheeks started to deepen in color. "It's getting a bit chilly, maybe we should go back inside..." I said after shivering again

I shook my head. "Nah ,she just told me to hurry up and finish the breast plate," I responded. She seemed very cold. I nodded. "Yeah, let's go inside," I said. "Want me to go get us some drinks?" I asked.

"Oh, good!" I said in relief. Stepping inside the noise hit her again. "Yes, that sounds lovely, let's find a table first though. I wouldn't want you to lose me, Kyle!"

I looked around for an empty table and finally found one actually rather close to the food and drinks table. I took his hand and walked swiftly to the table.
