Back "Home" again

Marcus ran up the hill, looking up seeing Talon soar above him. As He reached the top of the hill he breathed a great sigh of relief for being back at camp again, after trying to live with his family again...which turned out worse with a dining room accident (which can be told later). He reached out his arm that was covered in a leather harness for Talon, and Talon landed on his arm, his hawk eyes gleaming a way of a predator happy to be back in its old grounds. Marcus looked around and smiled and started walking down the hill to see if any campers wanted to hang out

I watched as a guy with a hawk walked down the hill. Well, that's not something you see everyday. Hawk and a demigod. I smirked. I'm not the one for a hawk whisperer but my friend Annelise was. I leaned against a tree and waited for him to come from the bottom of the hill. i came out of the tree's shadow. ''You know," I called out, "you are the first person I have ever seen with a hawk on his arm."

Marcus looked over and smiled and shrugged "Well it's always good to have another set of eyes watching out for me, Hi I'm Marcus, son of Hermes and you are?" He looked at Talon and nodded and Talon took off and flew into the forest. Marcus smiled as he watched Talon then turned his attention back to the girl

I watched as he did some nodd. The bird understood and flew off. I smiled. "Ah, one with the birds. My friend Annelise talks to animals," I said as I wrinkled my nose. I remembered when I found her talking to a an animal once. Freaked me out. "Hey, I'm Nevaeh Brooks, daughter of Antheia. Antheia is the goddness of marshes, swamps, flowers. You know, the nature stuff," I told the guy. Telling him about my god parents mad me remember my dad. I frowned. That man hated me. i shook the thought away. " So what's brings you here? Tired of the real world already?" i asked him with a smile.

He nodded and walked over and leaned against a tree "Oh Gods yes, annoying step-dad and children and a really big frying pan that hurts a lot.." He smirked and rubbed part of his exposed arm showing a large bruise, "and yeah always been one with the birds...Not bird-brained or anything like that but Hawks usually understand me...being my Dad's sacred animal"

I nodded, understanding. "Yeah, family can be a pain. I lived in Washington until the homeless shelter burned down. I was the only onw who lived. We were homeless because of my dad's work," I told him, putting finger qoutes around work. I sighed and looked him in the eyes. "Sacred animal, eh? Well, I guess you should prepare for a dozen hawks coming after you because you are a son of Hermes," I teased. I didn't even know what my mom's sacred animal was. I bet it was a misquito.

He nodded understanding what she was saying. He shrugged at the hawks "Eh Don't mind it at all" He looked around "Nothing changed...like always . One reason why I like camp" He smiled thinking of how he first got here so long ago

I smiled at Marcus. "Nothing changess here. Only campers. New ones are pouring in more than ever than ever now," I told him wrinkling my nose. Eh, too many campers around. Sometimes they were eild when they came here but, Mr. D usually gets them in shape. I looked at Marcus again, smiling. "So, how long have ya been here?"

"This is my third year here at camp...how about you?" He looked around at all the familiar places and he smiled lightly. Marcus always knew this place would be his only home, so he had to make it count. He turned his attention back to Nevah and cracked his neck by habit.

I wrinkled my nose again. "I've been here five years. I'll probably be here forever the way it looks," I told Marcus. I tilted my head to the side. "Can I call you Mark instead of Marcus?" I asked him. Mark was shorter than Marcus. I always hated my name. Could never put a nickname on it.

He nodded "sure, Hmm I'll have to think of a nickname for your name...how about Eva? Its easy to remember, unless you don't like that name of course then I can remember Nevaeh" He looked up at the sky. 'Yeah I'll probably be here forever as well so at least ya know you will have some company"

A trace of a smile fromed on my lips. "Eva's fine. No ones really called me Eva before," I told Marcus. My dad called by my name. Wasn't really creative if you ask me. A glem appeared in my eyes. "You plan to be staying here foverer? Join the club buddy," I told him, patting his arm. A small laugh escaped my lips.

He smiled and leaned back against a tree "I guess we forever-campers need to stick together, need some good company so we don't get bored " He brought out a small box of pills from his pack and he took one out and swallowed it. He looked at Eva and shrugged "Hate medicine...this crap is nasty but I have to take it until my allergies calm down, which they do here so I'll be better within a few days"

I smile formed on my lips. "Yup, boredom could be on the list if we don't stick together," I told Mark. I watched as he popped a pill in his mouth. "Allergies, eh? I'm almost one with nature so no allergies for me," I teased him. To prove a point, I snapped my figers and the grass grew taller. Snapping my fingers, the grass shrunk, returning to it's normal size.

He smiled, putting the pills back away into his pack "Lucky, Im only allergic to mold, but only if in large quantities so my nose gets all clogged up but other than that I'm fine. Man being a kid of Hermes is weird...I don't know what I'm good at, if at anything anyways"

I rolled my eyes at him. "You have to be good at something. Your dad is Hermes. C'mon, that means your good at pranks and stealing stuff. Let's test out the theory! Vidia la Viva!" I yelled pumping my fist in the air. What? You had to live life as it is.

He grinned lightly and shrugged "well of course I'm good at that, but what am I going to do when a monster comes along? Pick its pocket? haha, well if I have to test this theory out, follow me." He walked quietly, moving from shadow to shadow so no one caught scent of him and he went to the camp store's back door and brought out a small lockpick and his hands became a small blur and the door was unlocked quickly and he opened the door for her "This prove it?"

I watched as he picked the look. He did it pretty fast too. I clapped my hands. "Congradulations Mark," I told him with a grin. I thought for a moment. "Well, can you run fast? I have a Hermes frien and she runs pretty fast," I told him.

He nodded "Yeah I can run fast actually... Wanna race?" HE smiled as he closed the store door and locking it. He looked at her and rolled his shoulders, cracking his back in the process and he sighed in relief "finally able to crack my back more"

A smirked formed on my lips. I rolled my shoulder, smiling. My hands clapped together. "Let's race Hermes boy," I told him. I pointed to the arena, which was a good few feet away. "Race you over to there," I told him, getting into a position.

He grinned and winked playfully as he got into his normal running position."One, two, three, GO". He bolted off towards the arena, even with his heavy pack he was running faster than a regular teenager would run in the mortal world.

I rolled when he winked. Boys. As soon as he said go, I bolted to the arena as fast as I could. Dang, Mark was fast. I mean really fast. Just as I thought I had the chance to beat him, just maybe, I tripped over my own two feet. I sprawled onto the ground, rolling a few times. I groaned into the dirt and pushed myself up. "Looks likes you won," I told Mark. I winced.

As soon as he heard her fall he turned and ran back, quickly helping her up "You okay? You shouldn't run if your going to trip you know?" He smiled in a playful way and patted her shoulder "Who cares who won? It was fun racing you anyways" He stretched his foot out and moved it slightly and sighed, he twisted his ankle while running but the pain did little to him and he looked back to Eva and grinned lightly "So what shall we do next?"

I smiled when he helped me up. I put a strand of brown hair behind my hair. "Yeah I'm fine. I didn't know gravity was gonna push me down," I told Mark, muttering the last part. He streched out his foot and sighed. I looked up at him concered. "Are you okay?" I asked him softly. I bit my lip.

He nodded "Yeah, just sprained my ankle a bit but not that bad" He put his foot back down and smiled at he. "Soo, I do not know what to do, never really hang out with people much..."
