James Liam Carter had never really been the type of guy to stay in one piece or place. He had grown up being moved from London to America back to London, and it was really the norm for him to pack up and go. But for the last year and a half, his life had seemed to be a living hell, and they had caught up with him to a higher capacity lately. Things had gotten better for him after a few months and, just as he had got settled back into his role as cabin leader and was finally seeming to find happiness again, everything set off. And, even though he had returned briefly before December, he had soon set off again also. Staying here and there around New York, before again getting a flight up back to London.
Because, for James, life had started to take a lot of twists and turns after really joining camp. It probably could've been something to do with when he put a bullet through a boy's head in the middle of the street after a small gang fight, and he had somehow ended up at court for it. Self-defence, they had said, yet he never forgot it. It still - as it would - haunted him, yet he had started to sort of push it to the back of his mind in later months. But, the hearing had obviously been aired somewhere, so whispers had started to float around camp by the end of the year.
Not to mention another factor to his depression, which could have something to do with the limb he lost to a member of the undead, and therefore the reason why him only sported half a left arm.
And, despite everything, it had been all too much for the sixteen year old to handle. He had left without a word to his siblings or Faye or anyone he cared about for the second time in a short space, because he didn't know how he was going to cope if he stayed. Three months on and in the next year, James had slipped back under the radar. He had just picked a bed in the corner of his cabin and stayed there as he no longer had his great room, and the first thing he had done was climb back into bed. The next morning when he had a crowd of his siblings around him, he sort of felt warmed. As warmed as James could get anyway. Maybe word had got around that he was back, or maybe it hadn't, but James stayed low and didn't see anyone for the first week, before he got the courage to see his past friends. He had a lot of explaining to do, he guessed, but he didn't know if he was in the mood for any of it. He wanted to see people, he did, but he was even more short-tempered, moody and angry than normal as of late, so he didn't know how anything would play out.
Lunch time would be the best time to play this out, and James stood in the shadows of the pillar closest to the Athena table before the entrance. Campers didn't really acknowledge him as they passed; no, they were far more interested in what they were talking about to see him. Just as he was about to lose all of his patience, he say the camper he wanted and when close enough, he reached out and grabbed them by the wrist and yanked them around the corner with him.
"Hey."

A hard shell of the previous Athenian cabin leader walked around camp now days, her actions mechanical and timed. She would wake up every morning, just like everyone else, and train. A run before breakfast, eating, then back to training like she had the day before. Everything had a place, time, and action. The philosophy of her current actions made enough sense to her, and Faye decided that it was better to keep her life simple and functional. Her feelings would be pushed to the side for the camp in a heartbeat, and leave her emotions on the sidelines. Things were just easier that way. At least, she pretended that things were easier.
Inside, the old Faye was screaming to get out. Putting a mask on for the people she loved and trusted the most hurt, but she figured it was for the best. Maybe it was cowardly, to hide away in the hope that she wouldn't get hurt anymore. Pain was an inevitable part of the human life, this the demigod knew for sure. Yet, she felt herself constantly trying to avoid the emotional pain she stored in her mind. The battles, the relationships, the fears that kept her human were screaming to get out. Anger was the only sense she cared to show, and would be demonstrated in the training sessions that she went to; like clockwork.
Even the best clocks break, and leave something to be improved. For Faye, it meant that she would have nightmares, terrible nightmares that left her screaming with hot rivers of tears streaming down her face. Sooner or later, the demigod would have to feel something. Wasn't there something else in the world, other than pain? She knew there was, the girl had felt it before. The feeling she got when James whispered her name, the feeling of laughing with Livia about something stupid, the feeling of being with the people she loved. It all seemed to vanish with the disappearance of James.
Faye knew that was cliche, and overrated as far as the average teenage love story went. She had hard them all, and read most of them. The girl was determined not to be another girl waiting for recuse, she was Faye McJean, and she was capable of slaying monsters and directing wars. She was Faye McJean, and she was terribly lost without a boy. Okay, maybe not a boy, but that boy. The very boy who she had hated not more than a year ago, and couldn't stand to survive without now.
Blinking, the demigod brought herself out of her trance. Thoughts had become harder to keep focused, even for Faye. Her mind seemed to wander as it pleased, even as she did the simplest of tasks; like walking to the mess hall for lunch. As she entered the bustling room, conversations blurred together with the sound of laughter. The noise would make most people feel welcomed and secure, but it only made her feel lonelier. After deciding she wasn't really hungry, the demigod walked over to her cabin's table, about to reach the table, she felt a hand clamp around her wrist and pull her around the corner.
Grey eyes finding the face of her nearly-kidnapper, her eyes grew wide. Faye had planned this situation several times in her head. She would judo-flip him around, screaming at him for all to hear about how he left without warning, and how she wasn't able to do anything without him by her. Her muscles tensed up, and the girl found herself unable to do anything. She just stood there, staring at the magnificent form that was James Carter, the person her mind needed to set it at rest. "H-hey," Faye managed, feeling her voice reach a higher tone as the simple word. Shock would be a great way to describe her current emotion, but really, it was beyond even that.

As soon as James had pulled the Athenian girl around the corner with him, he withdrew his hand; it was the first proper contact he had had with anyone in a long time. He had been left on his own really for the last three months. Left on his own for his mind to battle and try and mend itself. It showed on him as well; he didn't look his usual, triumphant self. Of course, he had looked better than he had before he left, but there were definite changes to his features. Bags darkened beneath his eyes which were also gloomed and overcast with anger. His face was skinnier than it had been in the past, and he looked more gaunt than usual. Not finding the willpower or even the optimism to apply his usual fake tan, he was left looking quite pale compared to how he had in the past. A scar not curved around his lower lip from boxing day's 'events', and he skinnier than he once had. He still had muscle to him, of course, but he hadn't eaten properly in a long while. He didn't know how he was still surviving. He couldn't eat. All he wanted to do was sleep. He didn't want to see anyone. Going away hadn't helped him at all.
But when he stepped back from Faye and leant against the wall with his shoulder, James couldn't stop a small smirk from gracing his lips for the first time in a while. Just to see her made him feel a little better, even though he didn't know what would happen between them. He wasn't sure if she had moved him. He wasn't sure what was going around his own head. But looking at the girl did indeed make him a little happier. And her chock satisfied him also, reminding him that he had something that she found appealing at the very least. He wondered what she would think of him if she found out about the murder he committed - or 'man-slaughter'. He wondered if she would hate him.
"Fair play, Nerd, everytime i leave this shithole, i forget how hot you are." He murmured, his British speech puncturing the cold air like a knife. "It's a nice thing to be reminded of. Where's my welcome home celebrations then?"

The demigod found herself blinking quickly, maybe too often, to keep from staring at the figure in front of her. Feeling like he would vanish at any moment, she wanted to keep her eyes on him to remember every detail of him, vividly and perfectly. No matter the amount of scars, loss of limbs, or the expressions he wore, the boy would always be a work of art to Faye. She marveled at him, which must've been obvious, guessing by the smirk on his face. A blush worked onto the girl's face, a smile following soon after.
People had talked about James, of course. Gossip spread like wildfire in camp, similar to words in your average middle school. Faye wasn't sure what she believed about what people had said, things spoken in a 'he said - she said' situation weren't often true. The demigod considered his past to be a touchy subject, and one she never bothered prying at. Everyone had their limits, and Faye didn't want to push it. She had seen people stretched to their maximum effort, until they broke, and simply became a machine designed for the destruction of monsters. No matter the camper's similarity to a robot, the girl tried to keep true to herself. Or her sanity, whichever.
His comment only made her blush turn from a faint rosy color to a full crimson, that lit up her olive skin like a Christmas Tree. Returning her grey eyed gaze to him, the girl couldn't help but continue smiling. Anger couldn't come from this, not the happiest moment Faye had experienced in the last three weeks. "I guess I've been busy not planning it," she remarked, shrugging with a small laugh. Her smile faded as she began to notice more of his features, like the thinness evident in his face, or the bags under his eyes. "When was the last time you ate, James?"Faye asked, taking a small step towards him. "Not that you look bad, just... a little under the weather," she added softly, taking another step. The girl hadn't really come this close to someone in a while, and had preferred to keep her distance from most people. Then again, James wasn't most people, was he?

"Of course you've been busy. Busy with other guys, or?" James nonchalantly slipped in, studying her face for a moment before looking to the left out at the fields. He didn't know what he wanted to happen between Faye and himself right now; he wasn't even sure about what their relationship was like. For starters, they were meant to hate one another, and before he had left, the rumours that they were dating had peeved his siblings off. James wouldn't not date someone just because he wasn't supposed too, but he didn't know what would really be said by anyone about it. Like, what would Ares think? He didn't care, but there was always that thought in the back of his mind. But if Faye had seen other guys since he had left, he didn't know what he would do. Say nothing probably, or play the Vinnie card where he discouraged her as much as possible, and just remain internally jealous and angry. Seemed like a good plan.
Looking down at his tattered and ripped Vans, James' smirk slipped from his face. He was glad to see her, of course he was, but he didn't feel like he could handle a conversation at this point in his life. He wasn't ready for it mentally. He barely interacted with anyone, let alone physically come in contact with another. "Um, a few days ago properly, I guess." He answered with a shrug of his shoulders. He saw her feet take steps closer to him, and he tipped his head back up to look her in the face. He could see that she still held some kind of emotion for him, yet he didn't want to move too fast. "Me? Look bad? Don't blaspheme." He joked, although only a small, wry smile appeared.

Staring at him for a moment after he responded, the girl shook her head slowly. No, she couldn't ever bring herself to love someone else when she thought James was alive. Some people could've called her a few not nice words when she immediately left Vinnie for James, and yes, they had, but she didn't care. Faye didn't know what it was about her relationship with the figure in front of her, whether they had a relationship or not, but it was something that she was drawn to. No, she clung to it and the idea that she would always be able to look to him for comfort. Even if he wasn't with her, the idea of James always kept her trying to continue on.
"No," Faye said softly after a few seconds. "I - uh," she stopped herself, unable to be forming many sentences. Not knowing what to say really sucked, especially when you were a daughter of Athena. She normally had a way with words, but as always, his presence seemed to sweep them away. The demigod watched his eyes as she stepped forwards, and decided to stay where she was. Maybe it was easier to move slowly, if at all. "There's not any other guys," she muttered.
She glanced at his face once more, as he admitted he hadn't eaten lately. Faye wasn't sure how she felt about that, knowing that she wasn't one to order him around about it. She shouldn't be, at least. The demigod did enough hiding away in her room as it was, and knew that she had gotten thinner over the winter as well, despite heavy training sessions. Finding his small smile almost painful, the demigod exhaled. "Of course," Faye replied, attempting a smile of her own. "I - I should probably tell you -" she began, running a hand through her raven colored hair. "That uh - camp really sucks without you here," Faye whispered, her gaze retreating back to he shoes.

"Good." James just nodded, glad that there were no other guys around. He was not ready to even think about a relationship, but the idea of her being with a guy made his blood boil and thoughts seethe with hatred. He was quick to temper and lost his mind easily, so he had thought that if she had been seeing someone else, he surely would lose it. "You won't want to be with any of the losers here. They aren't...good. You need...need people outside. Normal people."
James wasn't a normal person. No, he was far from it, and to even pretend that he was normal made him laugh. He allowed a little smile to appear onto his thin, pale lips, "Does it? Why...thank you, Nerd." For a daring moment, with a cease forming between his brow, James reached his hand up to brush a strand of Faye's marvelous hair behind an ear before letting his drop to his side, clearing his throat and turning somewhat away from her. He hadn't come here to kiss and make up. He had expected her to basically flip out on him. Maybe that would've made what he had to say a lot easier, because he was finding his words difficult and distressing.
"Faye, I'm not well." He spluttered out finally, his head tipping back slightly to squint his eyes at the blue sky for a distraction. She probably wasn't surprised by that news, but he felt the need to tell her anyway. She was one of the few he actually felt a companionship towards, and she meant a lot to him, so he would want to know if it was the other way around. "Like, really...not well...Shit! I don't know!" he became angry at himself for not finding the words, rubbing his forehead as if it would help the words get to his mind faster. "It's not my arm or anything. it's me."

Blinking up at James, she ran her gaze over his facial features, as if she was re-memorizing every aspect of him. He had obviously changed in some way since she last saw him, but what part of him changed was a mystery to her. Faye watched his lips move as he spoke, wanting to absorb every syllable he said to her. It seemed like every time the demigod did see him, the moments were short and easily missed. "Normal people are overrated," she replied softly, the hint of a smile curving onto her lips.
The term normal hadn't ever applied to Faye McJean, and she knew very well that it never would. Her godly talents were the thing that had been a double sided sword in her life, with its good and bad sides. While she had been blessed with siblings, she had been tormented with death and injury alike. Normal, yeah, that was so overrated.
She took the faint wisp of a smile on his face as a good sign, even though the definition of right and wrong seemed blurry. The slight contact made her nerves buzz with energy, a feeling that had been lost to the girl since she saw him last. It left her with a twinge of need, but she kept herself in control with her hands at her sides. Faye couldn't just go throwing herself at him, that type of contact wouldn't benefit either of them. Even the smallest bit could leave her with a vacancy that could never be filled. Contact was dangerous, it made you feel attached. As much as she loved the figure standing in front of her, she had to watch her steps.
Faye continued to watch him as he began stumbling over words, leaving her with an oddly confused expression on her face. "Not well," she repeated, one eyebrow rising over the other. "Like, post traumatic stress disorder?" the demigod offered, plucking one of the many mental diseases she had heard of from her memory. "Or like...?" Faye left her words to fade away as she continued to observe him.

Carter didn't think he was right for Faye, or good for he. He worried about it sometimes. He knew that she cared about him, and he hoped she knew he cared for her, but he sometimes didn't know if he was right to get involved a year ago. Maybe if he had left her, she would still be with Vinnie and happy. He hoped she was happy now, but he strongly doubted it. But maybe if he hadn't got involved - even though he had hated her at first, and he hadn't intended their relationship to go the way it has - things would be better for the both of them right now. He would be fine; she would be fine.
Exhaling a breath quickly, James leant back on the wall behind him and allowed himself to slide down to the floor, his legs crossing before him as he stared out of the shade. He had many thoughts running around his mind right now, yet what to say was a different matter. He found his mind to be a whirlwind lately, and he just wanted it to stop. He wanted a lot of things to stop. He wanted everything to stop. he knew there was something not right about him. When he had visited family when he had been away, he had tried to act normal. He really had. But their grandson showing up out of the blue, looking gaunt and missing an arm had caused them much distress, and had sent him to a doctor. He hadn' wanted to go, he really hadn't, but he had been dragged. They didn't really speak to him - at least, he didn't take much of hat the expert had said in - but he knew something was up.
"Something like that, yeah. I don't know." He shrugged, looking up at Faye for a moment before down again. A strange expression hit on his face: one of distaste and annoyance. "I don't care."

The hum of the mess hall seemed to die out as she continued focusing on the conversation, no matter how softly it was spoken. The demigod had to focus, otherwise her mind would wander to places untouched by her worst nightmares. She couldn't risk that, and had to stay focus. Then again, it wasn't exactly hard when a person you assumed was long gone just comes back out of the blue.
Faye watched him sink down to the floor as she stood numbly, debating whether to sit next to him or stand. Honestly, she didn't know what to think about the situation. She hadn't the slightest idea of what he had been through back with his family, and wasn't planning on asking. There were some things the demigod knew not to meddle with, over her various conversations with the hotheaded son of Ares. She also knew the signs of post traumatic stress disorder, having experienced many of them herself.
Bad dreams, flashbacks, numb emotions, and the constant feeling of being on edge were things that she had begun to adapt to. Faye refused most of the treatments that Apollo kids had offered her, finding antidepressants unneeded in her case. She wasn't depressed, she was stuck in a continuous circle of hell. The demigod passed her eyes over the wall next to James, and quickly slid down the wall near him.
"You shouldn't worry about it," she offered, keeping her distance. The four inches between them was enough of a bubble to keep her comfortable, not really feeling the need to be closer. "The doctors just feed lines of crap anyways, it's not like they actually know anything about it," Faye added, pulling her knees to her chest and staring out at the wall across them.

Jumpy in his own skin, James ran his fingers over the seams on his jeans with his only hand. Faye didn't seem to be angry with him over the fact that he had left, which was a surprise. He had expected to be yelled at, or punched. And the lack of a reaction startled him. He was already frazzled to the core, yet this had done him more. He looked across at her with his blue eyes as she lowered down to his level. He didn't want physical contact most of the time lately, yet the small space between the two teenagers was enough for James to have growing emotions in the pit of his stomach. He turned somewhat, muttering, "Stay still." to the girl besides him. He didn't know if he would be able to cope if there was too much going on at once.
That's when James moved - hoping that Faye wouldn't - at let his hand play with the wisps of hair that curled down from her face. Cold fingertips brushed against her flushed cheeks, and James felt a wrenching in his chest as he was actually touching another human being properly, and not repulsed. Taking baby steps had never been his forté, and the English boy found himself leaning forward, still wanting Faye to stay still. He pressed his cold lips against her cheek, placing a small kiss right before her ear. "They don't know anything. Stupid doctors." James didn't say 'stupid' as such, but we'll keep this relatively PG. "I came back for you Faye. You...you know that, right?" He whispered, not wanting to be heard by the many Demigods around, although obviously not caring enough not to be seen.
Finally moving his hand to the other side of her face, he moved it so she was facing his face, their noses brushing. His blue orbs stared right into her ones, and for a moment, everything seemed fine. Like nothing wrong had happened. "You can move now." He allowed and smirked sightly as he leaned in to press his lips against hers. It started off as a slow motion, yet soon the movement of his rough lips against her soft ones built the craving for touch inside him, deepening it slightly and leaning into the girl more.

The entrance wall of the mess hall wasn't exactly something interesting, with its plain color and reoccurring pattern. Patches of new wallpaper displayed it's age, and contrasted with the rest of the building. How could she forget, this was one of the bases for the ZA. The entrance was painted with black and red blood at one point. Faye preferred the pasty color. She could feel James next to her, still from her nerves on overdrive, but wasn't exactly paying attention to him. His voice brought her back, and she obeyed him without question.
Faye heard shuffling beside her, but stayed still, her face not moving. Her grey eyes trying to look to the side of her and catch a glimpse of what was to her right. The touch of cold fingertips sent chills down her spine, the kind lined with a rush of excitement as she predicted what was about to happen next. She had to resist the urge to spin around and kiss him right then, and stayed uncomfortably still. His small kiss merely teased her, and kept her senses in overdrive as he whispered to her. "I know," Faye breathed back, her voice soft and light. She had to remind herself not to move again, her hands fidgeting at her sides.
She straightened her vision as he allowed her to look at him clearly now, her stormy eyes staring into his cold blue ones. Faye lost herself for a moment, ignoring the buzz of conversation a few meters away, and all the barriers she had been trying to build back up for herself. Don't get attached, right. Don't fall when you can't catch yourself, Faye. Seeing a smirk, no matter how small of one, on James sent her soaring, a smile lighting up her face. The feeling of her lips on his was a familiar one, but one she had been craving for ages. She let him take control, leaning back as he pressed against her, the friction driving her insane. Her hands attached themselves to the base of his neck and the back of his head, for leverage and support as she kissed back.

Livia,
Livia was done with that quiet, pathetic girl who cried into Nik's shoulder every night. She was done with being so needy, so sad, so freaking depressed. It wasn't like Livia could exactly shut that emotion out, but she could at least pretend it wasn't there. She could lock that part of her so deep down inside that it would hurt her badly to get it out, like a painful memory.
That's all it was really - a painful memory. Of Nik's blood on her hands and Livia's screams in the middle of the night and her brother's limp. Livia couldn't even recall what her brother looked like as a zombie - the memory was too painful to recall. So Livia had finally found a way to hide her pain - underneath a sheet of the old Liv. Needless to say, Livia liked pretending to be the old Livia. She was changed - hardened, but Livia still found that she could try to pull at least her old self out from the wreckage that was her life.
And yet, Livia found herself alone a lot of the time. Were the other campers scared of her? Livia hoped not. She wanted to be revered as a hero, not feared. Like that was going to happen. There were no real heroes in this damned camp and Livia was definitely not one of them. She was a coward and she hid in her own skin, killing people because she was simply told to. A smart girl would run, a coward would stay to watch others fall. Livia was a coward - she could do nothing to help anyone else.
Trying to push those thoughts out of her head, Livia listened to the grinding of her teeth against each other as she entered the mess hall. She was starving for the first time in what felt like decades - a lot of her appetite was taken by her sadness and Livia had probably lost a good couple of pounds in the last couple of months. But she was still strong as ever and as Livia approached the mess hall's marble floor, she noticed something a little odd about it.
A boy and girl were kissing in the corner - was that Faye? Livia struggled to make out her sister up the hill… and sure enough, it was James, distinctly recognizable by his lack of arm, the other of which was wrapped around Faye's neck.. How dare he?! Livia thought angrily to herself as she ran up the hill, quickening her pace. Livia reached the two and pulled them apart by James' shirttail. Yanking James around to face her, Liv grabbed his one working arm and turned herself around so she was facing away from the pair and pulled James's arm over her shoulder, making sure to back away from him so she could use gravity to make up for the strength she had lost.
Crossing her arms over her chest, Livia frowned down at James. "Oh no you don't." She said, before turning to Faye. Livia knew that Faye must have had the impulse too, except she had chosen not to act on it. Livia didn't care about that, she had gotten to judo-flip the boyfriend who abandoned her sister and her best friend for months only to come back and expect that she would willingly love him again like a damsel in distress. And the Athena girls were anything but damsels in distress. "Don't tell me you didn't want to do that." Livia said, smirking slightly.

faye lynn mcjean
Faye was, needless to say, enjoying herself all wrapped up in a world made entirely of James. Maybe it was the hormones, or the teenage need to feel loved for at least a few moments, but she was barely breaking for air. However, it seemed like one break was far too long, and when she opened her eyes, the boy was no longer facing her. Spinning around quickly, the girl saw her boyfriend at the mercy of a very angry looking Livia. Blinking, Faye had to make sure she wasn't seeing things. A few not-so nice words passed through her brain before she actually reacted, but by that time, he was already flipped onto the floor.
Standing up, she stared at her sister, mortified by her arrogant smirk and aura. This was unlike the Liv who was reserved and broken. This was a cocky girl who thought she was right. "What are you doing?" Faye asked, trying to keep her tone level. Even as anger boiled inside of her, the girl knew that making a scene in the middle of lunch was the last thing she wanted to start. "Maybe a little, but you don't understand -" The girl exhaled, pinching the bridge of her nose.
She jogged into the middle of them, hoping she could direct conversation on her, and not James. The last thing she wanted was for the two people she was closest too to get in a screaming match with each other. Faye exhaled once more, trying to keep her hands at her sides, and not help James up. She felt like if she did, Liv would only get worse. Then again, Livia couldn't possibly understand their relationship. It wasn't bad, it was just awfully messed up. Repeatedly. "You didn't need to flip him, Liv," she muttered, her gaze averting to the side of her.

please can you just take it all away
Believe it or not, kissing Faye seemed to be like a good thing for James right now. He wasn't in a good place, but he was a teenage boy after all, and he was known around camp for - or at least, used to be known for - flirting like crazy and 'canoodling' with females whenever or wherever he could. This was actually good for him, and he certainly had missed this sort of physical affection. And he certainly didn't hold back; he was struggling to take breaths between kisses, and didn't care that all eyes were probably looking at him. If anything, it made him smirk wider beneath the heavy kiss:a lot of people hated, and they probably hated him more because he was making out with this girl - a girl that, to many, was one of the prettiest in camp. He knew that at least five of his younger brothers had a crush on her, so it must've been double in every other camp. I mean, for an Ares kid to have a crush was quite rare.
But the next thing the sixteen year old knew, he was being pulled back from the girl abruptly and aggressively. His reactions were slow because of his surprise and because they weren't at the best anyway lately, so all he could see was a swirl of long blonde hair before he felt the world turn upside down, and he landed flat on his back on the ground. The wind had been knocked out of him, and he closed his eyes for a small second. Ouch. When he did open them again, his ice blue and angry eyes stared up at his attacker, finding it to be one of Faye's sisters. Livia, he was sure. His blood boiled at her meaningless words, and pumped through his body and forced him to grit his own teeth.
He saw Faye move, but the words the siblings said to each-other annoyed him further. He felt like he was getting looked down upon, and he was embarrassed from being floored by such a younger girl. His quick temper took over before he could stop it, and the next thing he knew, he was jumped to his feet and shoving past Faye. All he could think about was the embarrassment and his anger, and that forced his hotheadedness to kick in and for him to spiral into aggression. He grabbed Livia by the scruff of her neck with his hand and practically threw the younger girl again the wall, holding her tight up against it and almost hoping she was struggling to breathe. He was a bit of a nutcase sometimes.
"Yeah, Liv, you didn't have to flip me." He growled, leaning just as close to her ear as he had done Faye's before, but this was a lot different. He never held any anger towards Faye. He didn't think it was possible. She calmed him down, if not anything. But if it was possible for his icy eyes to burn with anger, they were, and you could see from this display why he was not is a good place. "And you're probably going to regret it when I stop the air getting to your lungs." He grinned, his face an inch away from hers as he pushed her into the wall harder and wanting his arm to push so hard against her throat that she actually couldn't breathe. James dropped his voice even quieter, not wanting Faye behind him to hear as he stared coldly into the younger girl's eyes. "If I had my other hand, it would be squeezing around your throat right now."

Livia,
Livia almost gave a smile but she stopped herself. Of course Faye should be angry and if she wasn't going to be, Liv certainly could do that for her. "Thought so." Livia said in an arrogant tone. She might have recovered her own self for a little - or a facade of her old persona, but the ZA had changed her. She was crueler than before. She tried to be less remorseful too but that didn't work out so well, did it?
Liv smirked slightly as James fell backwards. She felt a twinge of remorse for the boy, but she was angry. He said he cared for Faye and then he ran from her. Livia wanted to scream at him - she had never been fond of Faye's boyfriends (in the same way that Quell and Faye had would willingly beat Nik up) but she had a special hatred towards James. She always had this need to prove herself to older, bigger people who were under the impression that they were better than her, and James was an arrogant, self absorbed jerk if anyone was. He didn't deserve someone like Faye and Liv wasn't going to hide the fact that this was her opinion. "And I did." She crossed her arms in front of her arms and turned to the boy on the floor - who seemed to be struggling to breath. Good.
"How dare you, James Carter?" Livia demanded. Her anger was uncontrollable when she became too aggravated. And her blood was boiling with an urge to beat the living crap out of this boy and impulsivity mixed with adrenaline sure didn't help. Liv felt powerful and important and strong, a strength she had craved for a long time. "How damn dare you?"
Suddenly, James stood and Livia felt herself being thrown against a wall. James pressed her against the wall, pushing her neck so that she couldn't breath. Livia's head was foggy and for a girl who had already been pumped full of adrenalin, this did not help her calm down in any manner. She struggled against James' grasp, trying to clear her head enough to think through how she was going to get out of this. James' threatening words just made her angrier. Maybe if he choked her Faye would be so angry with him that she could see what an asshat he actually was. But Livia wasn't nearly cunning or self sacrificial enough to follow through with that so instead she looked at James' weak spots. Kicking him hard in the shins, Livia pulled back far enough so she could kick him in the groin without losing her balance.
"I may have been a little girl when you left, but I'm not one anymore." Livia growled, gritting her teeth. She freed herself from his grasp and stood in the same place as she had before, her arms at her side and her fists clenched. "You don't get to leave like that and then waltz back in here and expect to be treated as if you didn't abandon Faye!" Livia said, her voice almost at a shout. "The best girl in camp likes you and you run away from her when she needs you." Livia really believed that Faye was a better person; a better leader, a better friend than everyone in this damn camp. "Coward." Livia lowered her tone, making sure her last words hurt. She couldn't necessarily beat James up while he was on guard but the girl had long since learned to use words as weapons too.

Faye McJean
Faye felt like she was watching a train fall off a cliff. The engine was getting louder and louder, screaming in her face, but the girl couldn't do anything but watch as she was pushed out of the way by James. He didn't hurt her, of course, but the idea of being shoved out of the situation made her blood boil. She could feel the eyes of several confused demigods eating their lunch on her turned back. Livia's tone hurt her, even though it was just an arrogant comeback. The road back to sanity had been a hard one on her, and Faye knew that; but it was no excuse for cruelty. Athenians were supposed to be calm, relaxed, and maybe know it all's, but they weren't so impulsive. Yet, she held her tongue, knowing that any words that did spill out would be worse than what she meant.
Her face was growing red as she watched her sister being shoved against the wall. "Liv!" she shrieked, freezing in place for a moment. Did she dare advance, when James was in such a deadly mood? Faye hadn't been with him for very long since he came back, and she realized that he could be in any mental state. Catching a glimpse of the grin on her boyfriend's face, she felt her stomach turn to acid. Surging forward, she set a hand on his tense shoulder. "James, James - stop," the demigod said shakily. "Please, she - don't hurt her," Faye whispered, a safe distance away from her sister's struggling. She knew that Liv would fight until she was free; that was just how she was, determined and strong. The girl wouldn't ever think otherwise of the blonde, she knew her too well.
She also knew James, and he wouldn't ever back down from a challenge either. The train kept getting louder, building speed until the impending result, until the demigod was free and almost screaming. Faye had seen where the last kick went, and turned away, back to look at her half sister. "I may have been a little girl when you left, but I'm not one anymore." The words echoed in her mind for a second, before Faye shook her head. She may have thought of Livia as younger than her in the past, but she knew now that the girl had more determination than she ever could muster. Liv hadn't really matured, but she had been hurt, and would protect herself from now on. The demigod knew that feeling well, and knew there was no bother fighting a set thought process.
"You don't need to prove that," Faye responded, her tone soft but firm. Her grey eyes flicked down to Liv's clenched fists, and kept her distance from both of the teenagers at her side. Her half sister's words were a sickly kind of sweet, as she admired her sister's faith in her, she also didn't need James feeling like he had something to prove too. She couldn't pick sides, she couldn't chose one over the other, it wasn't fair. Standing in the crossroads of a track was similar to feeling ripped apart, and Faye wanted out. Her palms were sweaty at her side as she looked from James to Liv. Biting the inside of her cheek, the girl shook her head. "You - you don't understand Liv," she muttered, shaking her head slowly.
Her peripheral vision showed a group of demigods looking at them, only making her feel worse. Faye didn't want to cause a scene, but it seemed it had already started. "Liv, I - I can't make you understand, but you have to trust me that he didn't mean to ever -" she glanced back at James for a moment, meeting his blue eyes. They sent shivers down her spine, but gave her hope. Hope for a life without monsters, post traumatic stress, battles, and lies. Hope for the chance to love, and be loved. "He never meant to hurt me."

sometimes quiet is violent
If James could see himself now, he would be sure that there was a screw loose in his brain. He was holding and trying to basically seriously injure this younger girl for flipping him onto the ground, and grinning wildly as he did it. He became oblivious to his girlfriend - if he could call her that. He still wasn't sure what he and Faye were, even though they seemed particularly affection towards one another and he knew how much they actually cared about one another - standing behind him and was set on bringing about pain to this younger 'shit' whom had caused him embarrassment just minutes before.
But Faye's hand on his shoulder had been enough to startle him a little, focusing on what was going behind him whilst blankly continuing to hold this girl against the wall. "Get off me Faye." He growled, not really wanting to be forceful with his and push her away - even though he couldn't without letting Liv go because, hello, only one hand? - yet also because he never wanted to lay a hand on that girl. Everyone else he was obviously fine with.
But, whilst talking to this girl, the next thing he knew, Livia had kicked him in the shins. It wouldn't have been enough to make him let her go normally, and would have just angered him, but a kick to his groin made him immediately move his hand down to protect that area further, the air running through his mouth and stomach violently turning. He lost his balance a little, leaning back against the wall he had just had the blonde girl against and bending over, taking deeps breaths as he stared at his feet. James was both trying to get over the winding pain of her kick and trying to calm himself down. As the anger started to clear, he could realize that Faye would kill him if he killed her sister, and he wouldn't be too happy with himself. Well, he would in the moment because she seemed like an annoying little brat, but he wouldn't be later along in the day.
He was only half listening to the siblings talk, still focusing on the kick to his sensitive area. It actually had hurt more than explainable, and he didn't think it was fair of her. He looked up to follow the conversation, his head lower than both the girls' from bending over instead of standing straight like them. 'Coward'. The one word that James hated. He would've been called anything but that and he wouldn't laughed. But not that. He had spent the last few months trying to convince himself he wasn't that. He couldn't deal with that. The anger surged back to him again and he would've knocked her to the ground if he still wasn't winded. "Call me that again and it'll be the last word you ever say!" he spat, color raising to his cheeks.
He wouldn't deny that he was slightly confused about what was going on. Hurt Faye? He had never laid a hand on her? He frowned somewhat, but it was hidden by the deadly look across his features. "When have I ever hurt Faye?" He demanded, meeting the girl's brown eyes and cocking his head to the side slightly. "I've never hurt you?" His voice softened slightly when he stared up at her, slightly worried as he studied her expression. After realizing how much of a personally moment this could be on his part and how he didn't want anyone to see him act this way, he glared back at her sister. "You, on the other, will be lucky if i don't hurt you." He straightened, standing taller than the two girls and clenching his fist, standing slightly behind Faye and sticking to the wall.

Livia,
Livia stood triumphantly, backing away from James and glaring at him with an angry look in her eyes. She was extremely angry, and all her words rung with truth - or at least the truth of Livia's thoughts. She had never interfered with Faye's romances before, but this was just a step too far for the girl, and maybe the part where they were all forced to kill the people they loved had something to do with it, but Livia figured that her anger towards James had sprung up around the fact that he had left Faye immediately after. Livia couldn't just be expected to pick up the pieces.
Her voice sounded bitter, and the words brought a fowl taste to the back of her mouth - not bile, but the awful notion that what she was saying was true. James had abandoned them when Faye was broken - when they were all broken. And Livia wasn't a little girl anymore - little girls didn't have their twin brother's blood on her hands and knife. Livia didn't even take Faye's current emotions into account. Maybe she was too angry to back down now, but a tiny part of Livia remembered what had happened in James' absence and that made her think that Faye was being too soft on him as soon as he returned. It was much easier to be mad at someone when they're not staring you in the face. You're constantly reminded that they're human too.
Athena would not have been proud, but Livia did not care. She was the goddess of battle strategy and her daughter was most certainly playing that game. And Livia Malcolm had her own sense of pride. "Well maybe I don't understand, but at least Nik would never leave." Livia said quickly, and then half wished she could take it back. It was true, but that was a low blow to say to one's own sister. And she hated bringing up the fact she had a boyfriend. It made her feel weak and even though Livia really loved him, she hated that connotation that she was obsessed with romance. After all, she had taken care of herself for 15 years and could do it for 15 more.
So Livia did nothing, her anger hardening her outside shell, and she continued. "And he did hurt you. Intentionally or not." Livia's tone was cruel and hard, and she didn't even care. She knew that the old Liv would have been ashamed, but she was no longer the old Liv. This girl had been hurt, and would be hurt no more. Maybe the old Livia would have even said sorry, but she was no longer 13, no longer a petty little girl. No longer knew how to say sorry.
Livia noticed the color returning to James' face as he reacted to her words, and without thinking she retorted, "Coward." It was just second nature to her at this point - to respond to a threat (there was no doubt that she had always been that way), and Livia felt no remorse. She knew that she was safe for now. As long as James loved Faye she was safe - Livia and Faye had been through too much for Faye to let James get away with the murder of her sister. "Well you're a little late for that, as you almost strangled me." James had hurt her in another way too. After the ZA. He had left Faye - for Liv to comfort. There would always be that little section of her heart that was bruised - a wound that would never fully heal and James contributed to that, with his so called 'love.' As if Liv would ever admit that.

Faye McJean
Faye withdrew her hand off of James' shoulder without a word. She knew better; at least, she thought she knew better. Teenagers always had this strange feeling of immunity, like the rest of the world didn't apply to them. Being a demigod was similar. The daughter of Athena always convinced herself that she could do whatever she wanted. She was supreme, she was Faye - freaking - McJean and she would do what was necessary. Her immunity transferred into her actions, and even had led her to think - for a split second - that James would listen to her. Rubbing her hand against her leg, the girl watched the tension pool between the demigods, as bystanders watched with amusement. That was the worst part: knowing that people were watching this. Faye didn't want gossip or rumors about her, especially not about James. The last thing she needed was to hear those awful things about him.
Her gaze at James was short lived, leaving Faye to question why he looked away so quickly. His masculinity was on the line; this much she understood, but the demigod was struggling right now. She needed some kind of support system, and she wasn't getting it. Running a hand through her tangled hair, the girl repeated, "You've never hurt me." The small, brown-eyed thirteen year old version of Faye seemed to be back out, with sappy eyes and the inability to hold a conversation. She didn't want to go back in the past, but the idea of slipping back into her old habits seemed like the easy escape in the situation, adding to her unreadable expression. Her eyes were soft, but her gaze was firm. Conflict was something she so often avoided that Faye had almost forgotten how much it hurt.
Color rose in her cheeks at Livia's words, her eyes widening, then narrowing. She knew her sister, or at least she told herself so. Really, Faye hadn't the slightest idea of how Liv worked anymore. She used to be so simple, and moral, but now the demigod wasn't sure. 'Nik would never leave me.' The words rang in her head for a moment before she clenched her fists together, knuckles turning white. Liv's only mad, she couldn't possibly mean that, could she? Liv was her friend. All she could do was stare at her, hoping that her sister would come to her senses. "No," Faye muttered shutting her eyes and shaking her head slowly. "I'm not having this conversation with you, not here," she added, her eyes stealing a glance at the gazes directed in their vicinity.
Her jaw tightened as Livia pressed on. How five words could hurt so much, she wouldn't ever know. Faye could take it from strangers, she could take it from opposing cabins, heck she could take it from her enemies - but Liv? The demigod never thought she would have to take it from her own sister. Her friend.
In her years at camp, Faye had seen a lot. She had seen James develop from a self-absorbed jerk to - well, she wasn't sure, but she liked this version much better. She had seen Liv go from a shy, dorky little girl to someone who held her ground to matter the cost. She had seen death, love, and regeneration, but nothing would ever prepare her for such a stab. "You sound like little kids!" she protested, glancing from her boyfriend - was he that? - to Liv. Faye hated fighting, no matter how skilled she was in directing it, she still despised it. The only thing worse than wars, in her opinion, was arguments without a purpose. As Athena's daughter, the teenager lived to avoid things that ended up with pain. And this? Yeah, it qualified as that. "What's the point of arguing?" Faye demanded, her voice carrying an edge, one of bitterness and disbelief. "We shouldn't have time for that," she continued. "We're demigods, for goodness sake, we don't live long enough to be this - this pointless!" She didn't mean pointless. "This isn't worth it." Faye exhaled, her gaze dropping to the floor.
