I was walking on the beach wearing an orange tank top with a pair of jean shorts on, summer's already here so I guess I could go for a swim, so I brought my swimsuit with me. It was a bikini with some pink and purple in it. I removed my clothes which covered my bikini and I started walking toward the water, but I didn't want to be boiled to death, so I tested it with my feet, and did it feel good, well, not good, perfect. so I walked in until the water reached my waist. I felt like I was in a hot tub. I was in the middle of enjoying my swim 'til I heard footsteps. I turned around to see who it is, it was just Simon, Hecate's kid, for a minute there I thought that it was monster, but I brushed of the thought, so I said "Oh, um, hey Simon."

Summer was always nice. Putting aside the fact that it was hot as hell, Simon liked this season most of all. For one, camp was almost always full and being the social guy he was, he definitely enjoyed the company. Another reason was that it was the perfect time to go for a swim. There was just the downside of getting sunburn, but it was really nothing to worry about until the skin starts peeling off and making him look like a shedding snake. Lastly, it gave girls an excuse to walk around in bikinis and well, it was a welcome sight for the eighteen-year-old.

Simon casually strolled along the seashore, his slightly wet Camp-Half Blood T-shirt draped over his back. The grainy texture of the sand brushing against the bare soles of his feet irritated him a little, but he thought that walking around in shoes was worse. His damp hair stuck to his face like glue and his shorts were still dripping wet from his leisurely swim. Simon's eyes were trained on a bunch of girls splashing around from a short distance away. Well, it wasn't really bad to look, right? He wasn't cheating on Haven if he just went for a little... sight-seeing, was he?

Hearing his name being called, he quickly turned to the daughter of Demeter waist-deep in the water. His signature crooked grin spread across his lips. Clearing his throat, Simon raised his right hand in a half-wave. "Hey, Nat," he greeted cheerfully, controlling his raging teen hormones while he attempted a nice conversation. "Enjoying your swim?"

"Yeah, I would've invited you, but looking at you, I'm guessing you already went for a swim." What was I thinking? Why did I say that to him, I was stupid, right know he is probably thinking about... something. "Anyway, what are you doing right now? If you're not busy, do you mind if we hang out a bit?" Wow, it sounds like i'm asking him out on a date, I mentally slapped myself. Why didn't I think this through? He's probably going to decline or something, but, it was okay, right?

Simon looked down on himself, spying the dark patches of seawater he left in his trail. Smiling to himself, he gave a slight shrug and noted the implications of Natalie's words. He had spent far too much time with girls to get a reading of what they wanted, even if it seemed a little vague. Well, he couldn't really claim to be an expert on the opposite sex, but at least he prided himself on the fact that he at least knew a little more than most guys did. Ha, he could be somewhat vain at times, couldn't he?

"Well, just walking but okay, sure," he said with a slight nod, ignoring the warning alarm ringing in his mind. Well, it was just hanging out. Nothing special. He was allowed to hang out with girls, wasn't he? Shrugging off the shirt from his back to keep it from getting too wet, Simon waded closer to the beach and sat on the shore, letting the waves lick through his ankles and shorts. This should be as far as he would go. If he went in the water with Natalie well... it couldn't lead to something good.

"So what's up, Beautiful?" he asked, the nickname rolling off his tongue so easily. He meant it, of course. He never let a girl pass him by without at least calling her that. Sporting a crooked grin, Simon leaned back with his palms planted on the damp sand, watching the daughter of Demeter with his curious eyes.

"Beautiful?" I was flattered, and my cheeks feel like they're.... burning? am I blushing? Wow, my cheeks weren't this hot before "Um... beautiful? You think I'm... beautiful?" I replied, no one said I was beautiful before, all the say is "you have nice eyes" I got tired of that. After I removed that thought from my head, I said "Um... thanks" then I remembered his question "Oh, yeah, I'm fine, you?"

Simon could only shrug and smile in reply. He could already see where this was getting at, and a little part of his mind already felt guilty for what he was doing. Making him feel like crap, really. The least he can do was go along and try not to think of the possible consequences. "I'm good," he said cheerfully.

He raked his hair, parting it down the middle. Did Natalie know about Haven? Simon himself didn't know which was better, her knowing or not. He mentally slapped himself for even thinking that. How could he possibly thinking of flirting with this girl when he was not supposed to? Mixed thoughts plagued his mind but he continued to smile happily at Natalie as if nothing was wrong. He wasn't a bad actor, thankfully. "You come here often?"

"Sometimes, what about you?" I could read his expressions, good thing I read "You say more than you think" by Janine Driver. Though he's smiling, I could tell something's off "Um... is there something wrong?" Does he like me, not like like, just, like a friend. WoW, why did I care about someone's feelings so suddenly? I really don't, but this time, it's different. I was hoping nothing's wrong with me, why am I thinking about this, I just shrugged off the thought, waiting for his answer.

"Just during the summer. The sights are pretty nice at this time of the year," Simon said, nodding to himself. His features warped into one of confusion at Natalie's words. Well, he must not have been as good as an actor than he initially thought. No matter.

"Nah," he lied smoothly, a smile ever-so-present in his face. He was still looking at her as he continued, "Just got distracted by a pretty girl, s'all."

There. Problem solved, he thought confidently. Girls liked to hear those kinds of things. They were simply the best tools in turning the conversation around. He saw how flustered Natalie got at just being called 'beautiful.' Simon was beyond confident that his harmless-sounding comment would be enough to sidetrack her once again.

However, the growing anxiety at the back of his mind was enough to draw his attention to where this was heading and he sharply told him to keep his mouth shut. Who knew what would happen if he continued treading in these dangerous waters? But Simon knew he couldn't really help it. After all, being a player for the past few years left him with this habit. A certain habit that was going to be hard to break.

I blushed. I was thinking on how I got flustered a few minutes ago, I was stupid. I mean come on! a girl could hear them from a boy and not react at all! but I'm different I guess. Anyway I said "Thanks" after that. I decided I was done swimming for the day, so I walked to the shore and got a towel from my bag. Somehow, doing it in front of him, I feel embarassed. Why did I think about that?! What is wrong with me?!

Simon forced himself to politely look away when Natalie went to get her towel. He didn't want to make her feel any more uncomfortable than she was now. The light shade of pink on her cheeks told him as much. "I won't look," he said with a slight chuckle as he concentrated instead on the waves splashing against his feet. "I swear. I'll even cover my eyes if you want." He smiled at the sea instead, keeping to his promise. Gods knew how tempting it was to be in his position right now.

Simon grew a little restless at the short silence that took over. Subconsciously gripping the sand under his palms, he shifted uncomfortably on his seat and suddenly he was talking again. "Why are you alone? No date with your boyfriend?" he added teasingly, mischief lacing his tone.

"Thanks" Wow Natalie, you are so stupid. I'm am such an idiot! I then heard Simon asking about my boyfriend. A boyfriend? I've never had a boyfriend as far as I know, so I replied "A boyfriend? I don't have a boyfriend, I'm single" Oh.come.on why did I have to say the "I'm single thing" ?. I was really uncomfortable in this position right now. Heh, now to think about it, I've acting like an idiot ever since Simon arrived, I wonder why?

Simon raised his eyebrows in half-surprise. His head made an unusual jerking motion as if he was going to look at her, but remembering his earlier promise, he kept his gaze on the sea. "Well, at least you're ready to mingle," he chuckled.

That's good, he thought. No angry boyfriend will come after him just in case he ended up really flirting with this girl. Wait, why was he even thinking about this? Was he actually considering flirting with Natalie? Simon shook his head vigorously and slapped his own cheek, trying to snap him out of it. It didn't really work however. The only thing it accomplished was leaving his face stinging slightly in pain.

"Well... why not?" Simon spoke again, trying to continue their interesting conversation. "Not one of the hundreds of guys in here catching your eye?"

"Nope, well, at least not yet." I was still giggling a little when I heard him slap his cheek, but it wasn't loud enough for him to hear at least. I grabbed my towel and some new clothes. I was heading for the showers not before saying "Hey do you mind watching my stuff for a while, thanks." to Simon. I wrapped my towel around my self with my clothes in my hand, then I headed for the showers.

"Sure. You're in safe hands, Beautiful. Wonder if there's any food in there though..." Simon said, smiling as he finally got the chance to look at her retreating back. He moved closer to her things to watch them better, his eyes following Natalie until she disappeared into the showers. Once she did, he was only snapped back to reality and he mentally cursed himself for being so... Simon. Why did he have to be such a hormonal teenager? Well, he was confident enough in the chivalry of his physical actions. What he needed to worry about was the things coming out of his mouth. Words had the powerful ability to sway and convince anyone if you were good enough. It was almost like magic. Simon could work magic through his words as well as his demigod abilities. Other times, he was thankful for this little talent of his. Right now though, he wasn't sure if it was a blessing or a curse.

Subconsciously Simon already succumbed to his ADHD and gave his hands something to do. His hands gracefully moved across the sand and piled them in front of him. Seconds ticked by as he worked through the sandcastle slowly appearing before him. It wasn't as good as he had hoped, as he knew he wasn't exactly artistically inclined, but at least it looked more like a fortress than a hill. Simon's mind was already somewhere else however, thousands of miles away as he waited for Natalie to get back.

After 2 minutes of showering, I had gone back to the beach, I was wearing a red-orange sleeveless sundress, with orange flip-flops, then I saw Simon.... building a sandcastle? Well, he doesn't look like someone who build sandcastles in their spare time, but I guess he needed something to do while he waited for me. "Hey, I'm done, so, do you want to hang out?" huh, I guess I really did want to hang out with him, for real.

Simon jumped slightly at the sound of Natalie's voice. He blinked in surprise, looking at the half-finished sandcastle in front of him before turning to smile sheepishly at the daughter of Demeter. He must've been so absorbed with his little masterpiece that he sort of forgot that she was coming back. Well, hopefully none of her things was lost. He didn't exactly watch it well.

Her next words took him by surprise. Hang out? What did she mean? Was it similar to asking him out? Or was he just being paranoid? Well, he really wasn't used to being asked that by girls, especially. Most of the time he beat them to the chase. "Hang out?" he repeated dubiously, tilting his head to the side to show his confusion.

"Um, yes, Hang-Out" hmm, that was a little off, but, oh well. I guess he was just nervous or something since I kind of took him by surprise. "So.... What do you want to do?" Wow, I'm the one who said we should hang out, but I don't know what we could do. Heh, I guess I'm just like that. I guess we could hang out in the beach or something, but I asked him already, so it's his choice.

Simon continued sitting there like some dumb fool. He was actually out of words for once. Was there some sort of implication hidden in Natalie's words? Was he just over-thinking things? Before the silence that went on became too awkward, he decided to just let it go and take things as they come. "Why don't we let the pretty lady decide?" he asked, grinning crookedly at her. "I'm up for anything."

"Um, I don't know, a walk around the beach maybe?" Well, at least he asked me to chose "Well , I guess walking around the beach is fine." So we just walked, I guess. "So... what do you want to talk about anyway?" Heh, he does look a little cute though, What am I thinking?! Well, he does look cute but I only like him as a friend, right? But at least he doesn't read minds. Wow, I've been acting stupid ever since he came, do I like him or something, no, it's not possible, he's just a friend right? Nothing else, I hope.

With one last fleeting look at the sandcastle he won't ever get to finish, Simon secured the shirt on his back to make sure it wouldn't fall off and started off in a slow pace to match Natalie's. His alert eyes wandered around secretly. Who knows what would happen if he got seen by Aphrodite girls? What if Haven herself walked in? Given his track record, he knew it wasn't going to be easy explaining that he didn't mean anything with this.

Not that he instantly liked every girl he set his eyes on, but the insane habit of his practically made him launch into flirting mode, with or without his knowledge. He didn't mean any harm anyway. It was all just for fun. That much was clear to Simon, but what about the girl he mingled with? Did she think it was nothing more? Simon hoped to the gods that Natalie did.

"Well, I like talking about a lot of things," Simon started, nodding thoughtfully. "Like magic. And rabbits. You like rabbits? Interesting little balls of fur." Gods, was he so random. No matter, at least his randomness gave him something to talk about, something to divert his attention from his previous thoughts.

I was still thinking about rabbits thing. I wondered if he liked rabbits or if he something to talk about, but yeah, rabbits are cute.... like him. I mentally slapped myself for thinking that. Why am I even thinking about that?! Well, it's true that he's cute, with his hair and eyes. I wanted to slap myself at that thought, but since he's here, I can't. And, It's not possible that I could like him. Well I like him, but not like like him. Wow, I am such an idiot. Why is this happening to me?!

Simon laughed a little at Natalie's response. "Yeah, they are." He paused, thinking about bunnies. Did Haven find them cute too? Should he get her one for her birthday? Wait, he didn't even know when her birthday was. Lousy boyfriend he was, he thought to himself as he made a mental note to ask around later.

Simon looked up at the mention of the beach and turned to the peaceful-looking sea to his right. The sight of the rolling waves relaxed him. "The beach is nice, especially during the summers." Out of the corner of his eye he saw some girls in bikinis splashing around. "And the sights are more than nice too." The words slipped out before he could even think. Swallowing thickly, Simon cursed ADHD for that inappropriate comment. Why did he have ADHD? Why did it have to come with the package of being a demigod? Why?

"How 'bout you?" Simon quickly asked, a hasty attempt to change the subject before he could blurt out more things he wasn't supposed to say.

"Yeah I like the beach, it's like an all-in-one package." Well, there was the sun, the water and the sand. Anyway I really liked hanging out with him, it was really fun, I wonder if I could hang out with him more next time. Hmm, I wonder what else we could talk about, I'd rather let him choose, so I said "So, what else could we talk abou--?" Suddenly, a gust of wind kind of blew, okay, It was more that a gust of wind, it kind of lifted my dress a little, well, not the dress, just the skirt part, but I was still embarrassed, the my cheeks got hot all of a sudden. Just as I thought, I was blushing. I was okay with the dress thing, but why does it have to happen in front of him?!

Simon was just about to speak when the wind picked up, lifting Natalie's skirt in the process. He cleared his throat awkwardly and looked away, but not without at least catching a short glimpse underneath. Gods, now his face felt a little hot. What was with that? Were the gods teasing him or something? Did they want to see how long he can hold his control? Well, he was this close to giving Aeolus a piece of mind with that very timely gust of air.

"Well that was..." Simon trailed off, making a show of adjusting the shirt on his back so it wouldn't fall off. He was looking back at the sea now, certain that his cheeks were burning. Damn these teenage hormones. It was just a glimpse, but it was obviously enough to distract him from whatever it was that he was going to say. He had forgotten the words and also how to string his thoughts together, it seemed. Not good.

Taking a deep breath to regain his composure, Simon ran his fingers through his still damp jet-black hair and turned to look at Natalie. His lips formed a grin, hoping that it was enough to lighten things up but of course, things were not that easy. "That was breath-taking," he said, laughing. "Shall we pretend that it never happened?"

"Agreed." I started laughing a little after that, What? It was funny, Really! But I was wishing that it never happened. "So, uh, what do you want to do?" My voice had a speck of embarrassment right now. I am trying to forget it, but it was unforgettable. Why can't I get the thought out of my head?! It's like I want to kiss him or something, not that I want to anyway. Well, it's official, I kind of like him, but only a little bit, right?
