Breathe Again -Kat-

Helena was used to being up in the middle of the night. Sleep only came when she was finally too tired to fight the nightmares. Tonight was not the case. There were dark circles under her eyes, and a bottle of strong smelling liquor stuffed into the sand next to her. Her red contacts were out, leaving the brilliant blue shining in the moonlight.

It was easier, sitting on the shore, a bottle of whiskey and the moonlight to keep her company. She didn't have to think about what had gone wrong. She'd had hope of joining the Artemis hunters, but she was no longer a maiden, no. That had been taken from her. She didn't want to be around people. Most days she just wished the ocean would swallow her. But she was never so lucky.

Pushing the dark, choppy locks out of her eyes, she stared out at the water, sloshing and foaming, as she tugged the bottle of whiskey from the sand, taking a deep drink before putting it back in it's resting place.

there wasn't anything preventing the migraines that night. Danny had tried everything from Advil to Nectar and nothing had worked. Cabin six had started to get too crowded for her anyway, even in the dead of night when everyone was sleeping, it was too cramped. The space was large enough for the multitude of campers plus more space for books and scrolls, smart boards and computers, yet it just wasn't enough room for her. She had never really liked computers anyway. They didn't seem necessary. Everything could be found much more accurately in books and records.

Getting a bit off topic, Danny's mind seemed to settle slightly as her mind wandered into the deepest most pointless thoughts. However, it didn't cease the pain completely. If anything it dulled it from a heavy hammering to a large pounding. Walking on the beach always oddly made it much better. Her grandmother and Poseidon don't get along very well, so it had puzzled Danny for quite some time why she enjoyed the beach so much.

Running a quick hand through her dirty blonde hair, she let out a soft groan, so low it only rumbled in the back of her throat that ended with a heavy sigh. Let the cleaning harpies find her, she didn't care. Being eaten was probably better than being clueless about your life and having agonizing headaches every day because you can't remember a thing about your past. Yeah. Danny was definitely someone who could care less about her lovely life.

It only took the troubled girl a moment to realize she hadn't been alone on her moonlit walk. Along the beach, maybe only ten yards away, a girl sat in the sand. Danny could do nothing more but keep walking until she reached where the mysterious girl sat. She didn't know what to say, nor what to do. She didn't really want to talk but it seemed inevitable in this situation. Danny noticed the bottle of liquor and only had more questions flood into her brain that she didn't want to ask.

The black haired girl's eyes flickered up, the whites around the blue orbs bloodshot, the dark circles noticeable on her pale skin. Turning her eyes back forward, she sighed. "What's on your mind?" she asked, her voice gruff from drinking the strong liquor, her eyes filled with visions from a haunting past.

danny raised her eyebrows at the girl in disbelief. She had never really seen anyone with liquor in camp before and it just simply surprised her slightly. Maybe if she had actually talked to people she would find that this wasn't all too uncommon. This camp was, in fact, full of reckless teens anyway. It was a possibility. But then again she could be wrong. Either way, she didn't especially know because she was too stubborn and miserable to talk to others anyway.

Maybe tonight was a small exception.

Danny sat down next to the girl and sighed, running her fingers through the sand they were sitting on. The waves were loud and crashing against the shore a good ways away so sitting on the ground didn't seem too bad right then. Answering the girl's question, Danny responded by saying, "What's on my mind is the fact that I can't remember a thing about my past and it pisses me off." She let this all out in a mutter, as she looked at the girl again. "Why are you down here?"

"Escaping the nightmares of my own past." she said simply, not bother to mask the pain in her eyes and voice. Pulling the bottle from the sand, she took a big drink, then offered it to her. "Some things are better left unburied. But your life might be different. I'm Helena." she scoffed. "Daughter of Eros." she flopped back in the sand, her arms behind her head. "God of love and all the misfortune it brings people."

danny pursed her lips at what Helena said, considering this for just a moment. Maybe she did need to just forget about it. If it weren't for her headaches she got from time to time, and the fact that she didn't know anything about her heritage besides her grandmother, she would have forgotten about it months ago. If only it was that easy, though.

"I'm Danny," she told the girl, her old English accent was thick. It was the only thin that told her anything about her past. "I don't know my parents or who they are, but as far as I know, my grandmother is Athena." She didn't feel like explaining much more. It really wasn't worth the time, especially with the state this girl seemed to be in. After thinking it over, and then not so much, Danny took a swig of the liquor. "It may just be better to forget it all." She mumbled, taken back a little by the taste of the liquor.

Helena smiled at her. "I wish I could trade you. I was a normal, happy girl once. Blond and pretty. Eff that. I'd rather forget. The only good thing I've got out of my father is my brother, Landon. He's the only reason I haven't just let myself drift." She ran her hands through her hair.

Looking over, she chuckled. "A little rough on you? Ever drank before?" she asked, her black hair falling into her blue eyes. "Only take a little then. Here." she reached into her bag and offered her a roll. "Eat too."

danny almost disagreed with the girl. She wouldn't wish anyone to have their past oblivious to them. She hated it herself. But this girl seemed pretty sure of herself. Maybe in some instances it was okay if you didn't remember anything. But the bad side of it all would be, what if there was something worth remembering and you couldn't? That's what bothers Danny the most.

Letting out a short laugh, she shook her head at Helena's question. "No. I have never drank before. I do know that it is illegal in this time for us, let alone banned at camp." she shrugged. "But who really cares for any of that right now anyways?" Gratefully, Danny took the roll and thanked her with a nod and a smile. It was funny, the people you meet in the oddest situations. Danny could never really comfortably talk to others before this night.

Helena gave a small shrug, leaning back on her hands in the sand, closing her eyes. "A lot of things are illegal, but that doesn't mean anything's going to be done about it." she said, remembering what happened in the aftermath. Taking a deep breath, she exhaled. "I need an escape. Booze isn't doing it anymore." She ran a hand through her choppy black hair, letting herself fall back into the sand.
