I sighed, listening to the sounds of birds, the water, etc. Yeah, it sucked being blind. It really did. It made me an outcast, pretty much. But, it's not like I could go back and un-blind-ify myself.

Murmuring to myself softly, I slid over to the side of the lake. I had a habit of talking to myself at times and most people found it strange - heck, I found it strange - how I seemed to talk more to myself than to other people. I looked around before noticing a boy who looked about my age, maybe younger. I hadn't seen him around camp that much so he might be new, then again I don't really know all the campers but still.

Shoot, had he seen me? I must look either really odd or really creepy staring at him and not saying anything. Maybe he thought I was a suspicious character. Shuffling uncomfortably, I opted for talking to him. Might as well try to salvage my dignity. If he saw me, that it. Now, what to say?

"Hey. I uh, haven't seen you around. I'm Valora."

Dang it, if I startled him that meant that he hadn't seen me so I hadn't needed to make chit-chat, which I like to avoid because I suck at making chit chat. See, this is why I avoid talking to people. "Oh, uh, sorry that I startled you." I hated repeating my thoughts, it sounded dumb. Well, to me. Dumb to me because only I heard my thoughts because well, I was the one that thought them. I guess it probably didn't seem as dumb to the guy, Spencer, because he couldn't hear my thoughts because he wasn't the one who thought them, so it wasn't repeating to him. I scared myself.

"So, how long have you been here?"

"Er...it's fine," I said, once again in an estimate of where she was. "I've been here for a few months..." I sighed, and looked(well, would've looked) down. Not only could I not see her, but also my overwhelming fear of girls was taking over. "So...er...what about you?"

"Seven years." Did I sound bitter? If I sounded bitter that meant that I might also translate into resentful which might turn into "Oh my gods, Valora's bitter and resentful for being here for seven years, that means she hates the person who brought her here which means she hates the gods which means she's a SPY FOR KRONOS! AHHHH *slash slash*" And a dead Valora. I bit my lip and prayed to the Gods that he wouldn't think that I sounded bitter.

"A few months though, you like Camp Half-Blood so far?" I hastily tried to return the conversation to him.

(( I might have to go soon because it's 10 PM here and school's still going on for me, so sorry if I disappear. ))

That sounded.. convincing. He seemed like he didn't want to talk very so I didn't press him, silently sighing in relief. Silence was comforting to me and it was never awkward. I wiggled my toes in my shoes.

"Hey Val, and new guy. Are you new? I'm assuming you're new 'cause I haven't seen you around much. I've seen you around though. Only in the past few months though, so I'm just going to assume you're new." Bumping fists with Valora, I grinned and waited for an answer from the new guy. It was safe to assume he was new right? I mean, I explained everything and stuff. "Oh right, name's Kael, son of Hephaestus. I've been here nine years." I said it like it was a medal but in a way it was, right? It meant that I survived."Val here is a daughter of Ares, she usually doesn't tell people 'cause she doesn't count it as important. She won't beat you up though, or try to, trust me."

Rolling my eyes but smiling in spite of myself, I put my hand in front of my mouth and mock whispered to Spencer. "Kael is practically bursting with energy. It's tiring just watching him, don't you agree?"

Sensing that the kid was overwhelmed, I quieted down for a bit, Valora did the same though it was easier for her than it was for me. Curse her. She seemed to sense what I was thinking and she smirked at me before looking back at the lake. The wind blew and lifted her hair to reveal her tattoo and one of her scars for a split second before her hair went back down. She didn't really flaunt it but I kind of wondered why she got it. The tattoo I mean. Not her hair or her tattoo. First of all, she would look silly bald and it wasn't as if it was her fault she got the scars.

(( I have to sleep now though, eyelids are drooping, fingers are tiring. Night' ))

(( I'm typing this one-handed so sorry if there's more mistakes than usual. ))

Usually I was pretty self-conscious and it didn't go by me that my tattoo had been revealed for a bit. "What's your favourite colour?" I blurted out. Usually I didn't feel so compelled to talk to someone. Such a strange feeling. "I like orange." I was going to ask which video games was his favourite but he didn't seem like the type to like video games. I felt kind of rude since I had only given him about ten seconds of silence, but still.

(( Eh, my left hand's index finger is all bruised and swollen because I caught a football - that was thrown pretty powerfully - awkwardly. ))

Looking over to Valora, who looked away in embarrassment. I bit my lip and decided to try and save her. "Huh. Does that mean you have super enhanced hearing or something to make up for it?" Now that I looked closer, his eyes did look kind of blank and unfocused. It didn't make him a bad person in any way though, I hoped he realized that.

Tapping my head and rolling my eyes at myself, I started backing up before calling out to Spencer and Valora. "I just remembered that I have to be somewhere. It was nice meeting you though, Spence - can I call you Spence? What was that? 'Of course, Kael, you can because you are extremely cool?' Why thank you. Now, bye." And with that, I turned around and jogged back to the central part of camp.

Might as well just tell him that I'm not used to talking much. "I don't talk to people much." There I went repeating my thoughts again. Gosh that was really annoying to listen to. "I usually stay quiet, so I'm sorry that I'm not really making an effort to talk to you, it has nothing to do with you, really, it's just that I'm not... uh, social." Well, at least I felt better now that was out in the open.
