As I walked off the bus, I knew I was in trouble. First, I knew because a gang was looking at me like they wanted to kill me. Second... I'm a demigod. I started walking, but the gang slowly followed. I sighed, and started running. I ran down streets, and jumped over a cat or two. I even knocked over a news stand. Opps. I looked, and saw what looked like at escape route. I turned a sharp conrner, and ran into a brick wall. I fell on my back, and felt my nose. Broken, just fantactic. I got up, and saw that the gang had followed me. I stood up, and looked around. Well dad, a little help? A minion? Anything? I said in my mind. I sighed again, and took out my onyx ring. It turned into my scythe (a new adjustment thanks to a Hephaestus camper), and I held it up. "Any help, dad?" I mumbled.

I walked down the sidewalk quietly, my pink converse sneakers touching the ground quietly. I was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, and short jeans that stopped a couple inches above the knees. I noticed people on the outside wearing them often. They called them 'short shorts' I think.

Oh right. The outside. I should probably explain why I was away from camp. Well, see, I wanted to have a little adventure in my life. I never usually followed Chiron's rules anyway.

So anyway, I was walking along the sidewalk, examining the buildings, when a giant group of rowdy guys pushed past me, chasing this one kid. I wasn't too interested at first, but I saw how terribly mean they appeared, and I began to follow them swiftly. They turned a corner, and I stopped, not daring to show up behind them. I knew there was an alley right behind the corner. I peered around the corner, and saw that they had crowded around the boy, who seemed to be bleeding from his nose.

~ so, do u want Nikky and Lark to date? ~

I wiped the blood from my nose, and swung my scythe. Just then, I got distracted by a girl who was in the corner. I swung, and the guy dodged, and kicked me in the chest. "Oof," I mumbled. I stood up, and swung again. I came to a realization... I couldn't kill mortals. I sighed, and made my scythe a ring. I put it on, and looked into the eyes of, what I can only assume, was the leader of the gang. "Look. You think you're tough. I know that you almost comitted murder, and blamed you father, and he was taken to jail and executed. I suggest that you leave, or I tell the cops." At first, he was suprised, then he got angry. Then, he walked away. When they were gone, I felt my chest. Thank gods, no broken ribs. I looked for the girl, and called. "Hey, I saw you over there. You can come out, they're gone."

I ducked back behind the corner. Was that guy holding a scythe?? I listened, but didn't dare look around the corner again. I hid behind some trash cans, as the gang left. I was amazed he took care of that so quickly. I listened once more, and realized he had seen me. I walked into the alley.

"Hey," I said, quietly. "Oh," I whispered, remembering his nose. "I can fix that if you want me to," I told him, gently.

I felt my nose, and had to bite my lip to keep from screaming. "Yeah, that'd be ok," I said. I walked towards her, and realized something. She's beautiful! I knew she had to be a demigod. I could sense things she had done.

I was just about to reach toward my wand, but I hesitated. He wouldn't know I was a demigod, and I didn't know if he was either.

"Err," I began, studying his face. It was bloody, of course, and looked very intimidating. "We gotta find some band-aids," I said quickly. How else was I supposed to help him without magic?

I laughed so hard I thought I might fall and the ground and start rolling. "It's ok. I know you're a demigod. My name is Lark Maco. I'm a son of Momus," I said.

His laughing lightened the mood, and I couldn't help but smile. It was nice to meet someone like yourself when you are no where near your comfort zone.

"Hi," I greeted, sweetly. "My name is Nikky Emerald," I introduced. "I'm daughted of Hecate." I pulled my wand out of my pocket. "Now, I can fix that nose," I said, holding up the wand.

I shrugged, and smiled. "Great! I didn't want to go back to camp and explain how I got a broken nose to Mr. D," I said, chuckling. I closed my eyes, and waited for... tingling? A sting? Vibration? I wasn't sure.

I raised my wand, wondering why he had closed his eyes. It wouldn't hurt, I don't think. I focused on the wound, reciting an ancient Greek spell in my head. For a while, nothing happened. But, slowly, my hand felt a buzzing, like it had fallen asleep, and the blood was siphoned away, and the wound was closed and healed, with no scab at all. I sighed, shoving my wand back into my pocket. I swayed a bit, but it was only a small spell so it didn't totally sap my energy.

I felt a bit of tingling, and then opened my eyes. I felt my nose. It was... great! "Woah... that was pretty cool. Thanks," I said. I shifted my weight on my feet, and looked at the sky. It was still pretty light out.

All done. No problem," I said. I felt like turning around and walking away, but something was still nagging me at the back of my mind. "So, why were those guys chasing you in the first place?" I asked. They didn't seem like they wanted to give him a hug.

I looked down at her, and then looked at my shoes. I had just remembered. "Well... me and one of my relatives came here one day, and I saw that gang. If you heard the part about that one guys dad... yeah. I was there. He saw me, and before me and, whoever was with me, started to drive away, he screamed at me, "I'll kill you! You don't tell what happened here!"." I chuckled, then it died down. "Yeah, I'd never tell any cops. His dad only got sentanced to a year... gods know how he did that. But, after they took him in again... he was executed." My face flushed. I felt like that would have been a life I could've saved. But... if I did tell the cops, would that boy be dead? I didn't know.

Well that is a cheerful story, I thought to myself. I decided to drop the subject entirely, trying to forget all that happened.

"Well, let's not just stand in a suspicious alley all day. Wanna get something to eat? I got some American money," I told him, holding out a roll of three fifty dollar bills. "Don't ask how I got them," I chuckled. "I know there is a diner just around the block.

I smiled, glad for the change in suject. "Yeah, that'd be good. I haven't eaten in a while actually. I could use a hamburger," I said. I started walking, and tried to think of something to say. MY imagination failed me, and I couldn't think of anything.

We walked in silence for the next block. I turned the corner, and on the far right side was the diner. It looked like any other diner, and I couldn't help the urge to go. I began at a jog, and the started to run.

"C'mon, slowpoke!" I shouted back. "I'm hungry!" I quickly reached the diner, and once he had caught up I went inside and found us a table right next to the window. It had checkerboard tile flooring and a counter with those sparkling red stools. It smelled just like french fries and chicken sandwiches.

I sat down, and caught my breath. It smelled wonderful, and the place was so much different than any other place I had been to. "So... how do we get the food here?" I asked her. I had always just gone to McDonalds, or Taco Bell. I wasn't used to actual 'sit down and eat' places.

I looked up and saw busy people bringing plates to people. "I think those people are called waiters, and they give us food," I said, though I wasn't totally sure that was how it worked. "But we have to tell them what food first," I explained.

I nodded, but was still a little confused. A waitor finally came up to us, and with a friendly voice asked, "Hey there ya'll! What can I get you two today?" She pulled out a paper and pen, and gave us menus. "Uh..." I said, still confused. "I'll get a cheese burger with french fries... and some orange juice." I think I did that right.

I looked through the menu real fast. "Uhm, I would just like a smoked chicken sandwich and some iced tea with lemon," I told her, handing her my menu and his as well. "That will be all," I told her, kindly.

"Alright ya'll! I'll be back with that as soon as I can!" The waitress said. I looked around, and saw a man staring at us. Great, a creepy guy staring at us when we're demigods. Awesome, I thought. "Do you see anything strange about that guy over there?" I whispered to Nikky.

I carefully stole a glance at the guy he was talking about. He did have strange look about him. I glanced at the waitress, and saw she was busy. Our order hadn't even been placed yet. "Should we get out of here?" I asked, cautiously. I knew it was a bad idea to leave camp in the first place, but now we had some creepy dude on our tail.

I shook my head, still looking at the man, who facing away from us now. "No. We should just wait. If he's trouble, we'll know soon enough," I said. The man looked at us again, and I quickly pulled my gaze away. He made me uneasy, but I couldn't let him know that.

I looked down at the table. I had a bad feeling about this guy, and I could feel his eyes on the back of my neck. I heard my stomach growl, and hoped that he didn't hear it. I was really hungry...

Apparantly, a lot of time had passed, becasue our food had arrived. "Here ya go ya'll! NIce and fresh off the grill!" The waitress said. She slid the plates in front of us, and gave us our drinks. I sipped my juice, and ate my burger slowly. I had no idea what was going to happen.
