Confusion: Not always the best state of mind. (KATNISS AND GUITARGIRL.)

"Hm.. I don't know," Nala states. What was there to do after nearly getting killed by an enormous sea monster? She supposed she should get used to it... she was a demigod, there wasn't any avoiding that. "You have any ideas?"

I sit down beside her and look at the lake. "I don't know," I say. *Sigh* This week has really been tough on me. "Maybe just, get to know each other. I meanm we just saved each others lives, so why not?"

Nala nods. "That's fine with me, I don't care." She smiles slightly. She was pretty open about herself, unlike many demigods. A lot of them had these dark pasts, which sort of made her grateful.

"Ok, you start," I said.

Nala bit her lip, thinking. Where could she start? There wasn't a LOT that was so important, but it was sort of odd. "Um, well, I was born here on Long Island, but my dad moved me to the city when I was six so I could be closer to my dance school. You see, I was accepted into Lincoln Center's dance when I was six, and their program is a lot of work..." she trails off. "So, basically, I went to Catholic school and danced for most of my childhood." She shrugs. It was weird... she was raised all Catholic, and now everything she knew here went completely against what she was taught.

"Oh, wow, I wish my life had been that good," I said, "When I was ten, a Hyperborean Ice Giant attacked my family. Me, my dad and my... sister... Opal. I tried to defend them, but I got knocked out eventually. When I woke up, my dad said my sister was dead. It hurt too much to stay there, so I ran away. I found some Polar Bears, and they raised me for two years, and now here I am."

Nala listens to him intently. She could tell that his sister was a touchy subject with him, so she didn't press it. She was sort of shocked that someone could be RAISED by polar bears, but she guessed it had to be possible. "I'm sorry about your sister," she said, looking at him. "My life was relatively good, for a demigod. But, like any career, dancing was very... stressful. I was at that place every day in my free time, and they push you so hard that you never know when you're going to snap." She shrugs. "But I liked it, and I continued for a while. Anyway, we got the occasional monster and I had a nonexistent mom that I constantly question. Surely not as bad as what others had to go through though." She shrugs. "Did you ever think about visiting your dad again?" She asked him.

My face gets grim. "No. I really can't go back there. Too many memories." I say flatly. "And thanks. I... I miss her." I say. Guilt strikes me. I know it was my fault, because she wasn't a demigod. "It was kinda' my fault she's dead anyway. She wasn't a demigod, I am," I tell her. I know I can trust this girl. She's so open. So... Nice.

Nala nods. "Yeah, I get it." Memories weren't the best things ever. Then he starts talking about how it was his fault. "It was not!" she states quickly. "I mean.. things happen. You didn't know you were a demigod, you weren't trained, and obviously monsters were going to come. You couldn't have prevented that." She looks at him. "Don't say that. It'll only make things worse for you."

"Yeah, I guess you're right," I say. Gosh darn it though! If he wasn't a demigod, she would still be alive! Stop it, I tell myself. You'll only make it worse.

Nala nods. "Sorry if I was a little harsh. I didn't mean to..." she trails off. She didn't know how to word her sentence. Gah. She looks out at the water. It was sort of pretty. Her mind trails off randomly, and she doesn't bother to stop it.

I see that Nala drifted off. I do that all the time. I law down, and I figure I'll take a little nap. BIG mistake.

I was underground, in a cave. There were shadows all around me. I hear a voice next to me. "Come on Calyx," the voice says, "We have to hurry if we're gonna' get your sister!" It was a girls voice, but I couldn't put my finger on who's it was. She starts dragging me down the cave. Then she stops. "Calyx," she says, "Go, now! I'll keep her ditracted!" I took out my sword, and tried to fight, but the thing she was fighting was NOT something I wanted to mess with... again. A Fury. Great. I've killed two in my life time, and now one was fighting this girl. Suddenly, a huge gap opened in the earth. "Calyx! Calyx! Hel..." and she fell down the hole. "NO!" I yelled. And I jumped in after her. "NO!" I yelled as I woke up.

Nala snapped completely out of her fantasy world when she heard Calyx's yell. "Who, what, where?" She looked around, her eyes combing the beach for any intruders. Her heart pounded, and she couldn't help it. She really wanted to calm down... she was relatively calm in general, but the whole demigod/monster thing freaked her out. She looked at Calyx. "What happened?"

I was sweating and breathing hard. "Bad dream," I say, "Bad dream."

"Oh... okay," says Nala. She took a deep breath, lying back in the sand. Her ponytail splayed across the sand and she looked up at the sky. Calm down. She couldn't help but shake slightly. She needed to stop having a panic attack every second when some potential demigod thing confronted her. Nala appreciated her mother's gifts, but she couldn't help longing for a normal day back in her city penthouse with her father... like that was even possible now.

I was still a little freaked out because of my dream. "You ok?" I asked. It seemed like something was bothering her.

Nala continued to look at the sky. "I'm fine. It's just.. this demigod stuff. It's a little bit much to take in," she admits. She had found out less than a week ago that she was half-god, and now she was here. It was more than a little disconcerting.

"Yeah, trust me, I know what you're going through," I say. Yeah, being a demigod is tough. You have to fight monsters, go on quests, and just altogether try to stay alive.

Nala nods. "Doesn't everyone here?" she muses. She vaguely wonders how many demigods live to adulthood, but then pries her mind away from the topic. She needed to stop thinking so negatively.

"Yeah, I suppose you're right," I say, "I mean, there are probobly millions in the world, we just gotta' find them."

Nala looks at him, confused. "What?" she asks him. Millions of what? Her brain was going nowhere fast today.

"Millions of demigods. They're probobly everywhere, And we don't even know," I say. She seemed kind of... off. Like she was thinking of something completey different then what we were talking about. "All right. Spill it," I say.

"Oh," Nala said. She didn't know about MILLIONS, but there were probably a decent sized amount of them. Then he tells her to "spill it." "What is there to spill?" she asked him, slightly amused. Was she concealing something? Well, the whole demigod thing still had her pretty shaken up, but she'd already told him that.

"You seem... distracted. Like there's something really bothering you," I said. I look at her. Was she amused about something? Meh, whatever, at least she's not crying or anything. I would NOT be able to handle that.
