| SHADE__KERMIT__MACKENZIE__TAYLOR Shade walks through the corridor of books, examining the leather-bound spines absently. In all honest, he was too interested in reading at the moment. That's not to say that he didn't read, however. He most certainly did, and it was obvious if you asked him about it. He could list his favorite novels, give you a transcript of every novella he's ever written, and he'd probably throw in a personally-written short story just for no reason. This is off-topic, though. Shade sighs exuberantly, unsure of how to continue. All he's looking for is some human interaction, which seems so hard to come by for some reason.
He takes a right, and continues to glance around anxiously, hoping to find someone. You would think that with the library being new, it would be bustling with life. This day, however, was particularly quiet. Running his hand through his hair, he leans against a bookcase. "I wonder where everybody is." Suddenly, his feet slip, and he slides forward. Reaching out, he grabs a few books, and they slide off with him. He hits the ground, laying on his back, and sighs. To add insult to injury, a book smacked into his forehead on it's way down, and laid out on floor, opening to a random page. Sitting up, Shade curses, and glances around at the mess. "Oh man, this sucks."

Kairi strolls by a corridor of books, absentmindedly adjusting a red pastel floral hair-clip. After stopping to scope out a good book on the history of Greece momentarily, she spots exactly what she was looking for. She plucks the large, leather-bound novella from the shelves, flipping through the pages as she nears to the cashier. Kairi, with her eyes on pages, stumbles over a boy who must have fell, tripping over him and the cluttered mess. Her glasses fallen off her face, because she can barely see now. Thank God, she's still on her feet, but her eyes search out the blurry image before her, seeing a fuzzy eyeglass frame, just beneath his foot. She cringes as she worries about them breaking in pieces, only to remember the spare contacts in the pocket of her denim jacket.
Kairi offers her hand, like any generous person might. She stares at him inquisitively, taking a moment before properly introducing herself. "I'm Kairi." she places her right hand loosely on her hipbone, before remembering her glasses. His feet are so close to stepping on them, so she must be quick to warn him. "Don't move your feet. Don't move your feet. Don't move your feet." One more move and they'll be gone for good. Although she has been trying to rid of those hideous things for the longest time.

| SHADE__KERMIT__MACKENZIE__TAYLOR Shade stares at the girl for a moment, confused. "What are you talking about?" In in one small, simple motion, he attempts to get to his feet. A loud, cracking sound fills the hallway of books, and Shade's jaw drops. He suddenly realized the motive behind her warning, and he glances down. Under his foot sat a pair of broken, sad-looking glasses. Frowning, he glances at the girl before crouching down, examining the glasses. The lenses are shattered, and laying in pieces. The frame is bent and broken, much like a mangled leg or an arm. Reaching out, he takes them into his hands, and stands. Using his foot to sweep the glass underneath a bookcase, he approached Kairi, emitting an awkward laugh. "Sorry about that," he said, smiling slightly. After offering them forward, his lips slid into a sly smirk, and he examined her.
Her features are simple; it's true, she's not a supermodel, but Shade finds himself enticed by her, attracted. As he made his way to her eyes, he was entranced for a moment. "You have pretty eyes," he told her, still smirking. The words aren't meant to slip out, no, but they do, and Shade doesn't regret them. It's true, and he's never been a liar. The glasses, those awful broken glasses, are still being held out for her to accept.

Kairi's eyes widen as they follow his foot crack the lenses, malforming the hideous bronze frame. She observes his obvious movements, repeating them like a sports announcer might. "Oh.... and you moved your foot." she scrunches her nose at her obvious statement, shaking her head as he chooses to sweep the shattered pieces of glass underneath a bookcase as if nothing had happened. As he approaches her with the broken frame, she pinches the metal with her thumb and index finger.
Kairi shrugs her shoulders, before responding. She stretches on the 'well' before continuing her sentence. "Well, those were ugly anyway." While inspecting the frame in a better light, she chuckles softly. "I suppose you did me a favor." his face is still blurry and she fishes her contacts out of her pockets, quickly planting them on her eyes. She studies his face as she trades the compliment, struggling to find fitting words. "You have nice hair....?" she finally responds, lacking anything half as nice to say in return.

| SHADE__KERMIT__MACKENZIE__TAYLOR He laughs, nodding politely. "Thanks." He examines her for a moment longer, and finally extends his hand, an accomplished smile on his face. It's obvious that he's decided how he feels towards her; an average moment for Shade, because once a decision has been made, he doesn't change it. To him, opinions are forever. They are unchangeable, unmovable, they are not to be made until the poison sets in. That's the only way for him to sleep at night; to convince himself that only facts are the changing ones, ones that can be destroyed. "I'm Shade." He runs through a few things in his mind, pondering the correct way to strike up a conversation. "Kairi...interesting name. I like it." Another momentary smile flashes on his face before he glances away, remembering something. "Oh yeah, the books..."
Moving back a bit, he bends over, and begins picking up the mess he made. "So," he begins, a load of books in one arm, "you carry around contacts with you normally? Most girls I know aren't usually so...prepared." He laughs lightly, and stands, shelving a few of the leather-bound bricks. "Anyways, sorry again about breaking your glasses." He glances back at her, and continues with, "Why do you wear glasses if you have contacts, anyway? They looked kind of ridiculous." He on his knees at this point, and collecting more books. Once the last of them was in his arms, he shelved them, and stretched out, investigating the fixed books. "There we go, all finished." He turned back towards her, and waited for her to continue the conversation.

Kairi smiles back, warmly, as a gesture for "you're welcome." she laughs, her face reddening with a natural blush, as she warms. "I would say the same to you, Shade." she puts an emphasis on his name, referring to his earlier statement. For a split moment, she doesn't say anything, but soon she interrupts her own silence, with a comment teasing her habits. "Well, that's lil' old me, always prepared." Kairi chuckles awkwardly, slightly uncomfortable and out-of-place as she makes fun of herself. She further explains herself, "My parents think if I lose the glasses, I'll lose my 'wholesome, Catholic girl' image." she furrows her brows at how ridiculous she's making her parents sound, as she responds with subtle sarcasm. "I mean, it's not like I'll run out and get a boob job....?" she squints, questioning herself, and feeling the un-used pair of contacts in her eyes. "So, I guess I wear them because glasses are a part of this 'image' my parents made me up to be." she finishes, adding, "Not to mention they're much easier to clean and find." Kairi shrugs, waiting for him to respond.

| SHADE__KERMIT__MACKENZIE__TAYLOR Shade raises an eyebrow, obviously smirking at the thought. "That's ridiculous," he says, "You're right though, I guess if I lost my glasses I wouldn't go and get larger breasts either..." He nods, laughing a bit. "You're parents sound...sheltering." He stares at the shelf for a moment, trying to decide if he had used the correct word. "I mean, don't misunderstand, I've got nothing against people like that, it's just uh..." he shifts uncomfortably, trying to decide on a way to explain himself. "Sorry...I don't usually have nothing to say." Popping his knuckles for a moment, he considered another way to lead the conversation on, and continued. "I have to agree, I couldn't stand contacts. I can hardly even rub my eyes when I'm tired. That's admirable eye strength you have there."

Kairi shakes her head, hiding her rising smile, as she giggles at his awkward behavior. "Well, I hope you wouldn't get large breasts....?" no, no. That comment sounded entirely ignorant. She should explain. Eh, no. Forget it. It's fine. She shrugs, raise her brows, widens her crystal gaze and laughs - much more than awkwardly. She backpedals towards his comment about about her parents, noticing his pause. "It's fine, you're, basically, right." Kairi struggles to find the words herself, much like him, just a short while ago. "They're very, er, strict." she explains, further adding to lighten the mood. "My curfew was still five was I was thirteen." she shakes her head again, attempting to explain, "I suppose they're overprotective." Kairi fidgets with her fingers, her confident posture lowering, "They divorced though, but...." she bites her lower lip, standing tall again, "at least I'm fortunate to have loving parents." it's true. Her parents could be major pains, but at least she still had family - even if she rarely sees her mother, after her father's affair with the goddess, Athena. She supposes she could say she's lucky. Her cheeks redden at the next compliment his tongue slips about her eyes. "Thanks again....?" her voice rings questionably, the last syllable lasting quite a few seconds.
