Amberlyn Jade Wynters
"I wish I could talk to actual people." Amberlyn wrapped her arms around the horse's neck, burying her face in it's soft hide. The comment stemmed from her most recent epiphany - the realization that with her great talents came an inability to hold conversation. With a muffled sigh, she pulled away, and returned to the rhythmic brushing of her equine friend, Amulet. The sudden shyness that had taken hold of her had thrown her into a downward spiral, causing her to eventually settle in a pit of depression and anger. This, in turn, pushed her away from others. The horse whinnied, as if sensing it's companion's feelings. "Well, I'm all done here." Amberlyn, patted the creature's head a few more times, and sat the brush on a nearby stool. "I'll see you tomorrow, Amulet." With that, she exited the stall, and dusted herself off. Amberlyn silently wished that she could stay here all day - the horses enjoyed her companion, and she enjoyed theirs. Heaving another large sigh, she let herself fall against the wall, sliding to the ground in despair. "I hate this place." She covered her face with her hands, her heavy breathing slowly building to a sob.

fayelyn rose young
A wandering Fayelyn stumbled across the stables. Since she didn't want to sleep and possibly have premonitions about people's futures - especially not what she witnessed two years ago. She peered around the corner of the stables, taken aback by the sound of a girl's voice.
"I wish I could talk to actual people." At first, Faye didn't know what to do. She felt like a peeping tom - asides for the fact that she wasn't "peeping" at anything. She froze in her place, almost scared. She, then, assumed the voice was coming from... well, a girl in on of the stalls. The paranoid part of Faye wanted to believe that this voice was of a ghost, but deep down she knew that wasn't true - she hoped, at least. The seventeen-year-old's heightened curiosity pushed her forward, out of the shadows. The voice grew in volume, as she neared, but to her dismay, the stall door clicks shut. Surprised, Faye let out a shrill gasp, jumping back nearly a yard.
The girl's voice returned, in-between sobs, "I hate this place." The girl's a magnet that Faye couldn't help, but find herself drawn to. She wanted to comfort her; help her. She finally stepped out from the shadows to approach her. Faye tried to say something sarcastic, but her voice cracked, losing its purpose. It made her seem weak; questioning and confused. Not snarky."So, why don't you leave?"

Amberlyn was too trapped in her own self-pity to notice the girl until she spoke. "Oh!" She leapt up and from the spot. "I'm sorry," the girl began, as if she had been caught doing something wrong. Amberlyn wiped her eyes, hoping that her make-up hadn't smeared in her foolishness. The stranger's words had meaning to them, though - why didn't she just leave? The idea had been in Amberlyn's mind before. She wasn't sure she could bring herself to leave, though. "I'm Amberlyn," she introduced herself, deciding to not answer the former question. Politely, she stuck her hand out to the girl, and smiled. Amberlyn looked the stranger over, getting a good look at her for the first time. She seemed unsure of herself, in an odd way that nearly contradicted itself to Amberlyn. At first Amberlyn had wanted to shout unpleasantries at the girl, but now she found that the feeling had faded; the stranger possessed a sense of curiosity, something strange and almost innocent enough for Amberlyn to dismiss.

Fayelyn waited hesitantly for the girl to respond. She was standing on her tiptoes, trying to seem less like a child, but the action only made her seem more-so. God, she was probably and inch or so taller and she still seem to appear like a young thirteen-year-old. She chewed on the inside of her lip, waiting for an answer or explanation. Something.
Faye relaxed her feet and started rocking herself on her heel. The girl was apologizing and wiping away tears, which confused the brunette. She cleared her throat, and tried to speak. Instead of responding confidently, her voice squeaked, "It's okay."
When the stranger stuck out her hand, Faye only stared. Most people she met wouldn't even tell her their name, let alone stick out their hand in greeting. After a few seconds, she took Amberlyn's hand. Her hand was soft, and Faye felt embarrassed for her clammy palms, so she immediately pulled back and wiped away the sweat. She bit her lip this time; hard enough to make it bleed - thankfully she didn't. No stranger had bothered to keep a conversation going since Avery. They're all to caught up in their own world.
Faye found that funny, and almost smiled to herself before turning it into a sheepish grin towards Amberlyn. "Faye." She still refused to look her in the eye. She didn't like confrontation. She was instead staring at chest-level. Her cheeks flushed and she looked over her shoulder, as if she was looking for something. God, she probably thinks Faye's lesbian or something.

Amberlyn watched Faye awkwardly introduce herself. "It's nice to meet you, Faye." Amberlyn continued to smile, even chuckling a bit at the other girl's disposition. A sudden worry struck her - was Amberlyn causing this? Amberlyn bit at the inside of her mouth, hesitant to speak now; what if she messed up? All of her conversation devices came straight from books and movies - most of them cliche fantasies full of cheap dialogue. "I like your name?" Amberlyn offered, giving a fake toothy grin as accompaniment. "So, um. I've never seen you around camp before." Deciding she was content with how much she'd said so far, she pursed her lips, before twisting them into a minuscule smile, trying to lighten the mood a bit. Amberlyn normally could tell the direction of the conversation by her partner's facial expressions - they both seemed so bad at this, though, that Amberlyn feared disaster.

Faye shrugged, relaxing, but her voice was still a shrill squeak. "Likewise." Her shoulders fell, and she found herself able to stabilize her feet. Her voice rose into an upward inflection, unintentionally, like she was questioning herself, "Faye's short for Fayelyn." she began, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "We both have the suffix -lyn." she looked up for a moment, glancing into Amberlyn's eyes for the first time. She didn't know why she was so scared. She looks harmless.
The mutual awkwardness relieved Fayelyn somewhat. She finally could clear her throat without feeling that tough lump creating surpluses of mucus. "I've been here for a year." she began, while her teeth playing with her upper lip without her conscious knowledge. "I just sleep a lot." she shrugged, softly chuckling. She cocked her head to her left, glimpsing into the other girl's eyes. "But, I'm Hypnos, so." she finished, cutting the last word short. Half of her was surprised at the amount of words she spoke today, but that other half wanted to sneak glances of Amberlyn's eyes. They were lighter in comparison to Faye's and they reminded her of melted chocolate pools of brown. Kind of pretty, in a sense. Not like she'd tell her that, though.

Amberlyn Jade Wynters
Amberlyn smiles, nodding as the other speaks. "Techne," Amberlyn begins, referencing her own godly parent. "Personification of talent." The last sentence is mumbled and hushed, as if she is trying to hide the words. "I guess I kind of lied back there...well, to myself, when you were eavesdropping." Amberlyn smiles slightly, teasing her new acquaintance. Her expression, however, grows grim and shameful as she begins her next sentence. "I don't hate this place. It's quite nice, actually. I'd rather be here than home. The problem is, more or less, me. I'm terrible at making friends, and I have a teeny bit of a depression problem." She glances at Faye, biting her bottom lip anxiously; it was a habit she'd developed when she's nervous. Silently, Amberlyn worried that she'd revealed too much - she knew that the first step to gaining a friend is getting to know them, but instead she listed her faults and given Faye a reason to keep her distance.

Faye furrowed her brows, squinting. "Talent?" she tilted her head and stepped backwards to lean against the nearest wall. "You make it sound like a bad thing." the seventeen-year-old tried to steady her gaze, but she felt the pressure of gravity prevent her from lifting her eyes.
Faye practically jumped out of herself at the sound of the word "eavesdropping." It was something that she was offensive. Granted, Amberlyn didn't seem to mean anything by it harmful, so Faye let it pass - she was only teasing, after all. Her smiles faded as she began to explain her first sentence - the one Faye overheard. Throughout her confession, Faye nodded, before adding her own statement. "I have the same problem." she reassured her, giving her famous gesture - the shrug. "I can never make friends, or even let my brother keep them, because of my over-dependency, or jealousy." she responded like it wasn't the problem it was - like it didn't ruin friendships. She chuckled nervously in realization, "Wow, I'm clingy."
She stopped herself, suddenly frowning, "Am I turning this into a discussion about my problems?" her eyes avoided Amberlyn's once again, but then she dismissed it with soft laughter.

Amberlyn Jade Wynters
Amberlyn shakes her head, both corners of her mouth bent downwards. "Not at all..." Finding herself unsure of what to say, she returns to Faye's earlier statement. "I like to gather my opinions on a person by getting to know them." She shrugs, as if unsure in her thoughts. "Not by what they can do. Or something like that." Amberlyn moves her feet uneasily, once again fearing that she had said something wrong. "So what are you doing here?" Amberlyn found herself curious, seeing as the girl appeared to be a loner - or if not, at least to spend most of her time in solitude. "I was just, um..." She found herself fumbling with her words, her arms awkwardly flailing towards the horse stalls. Her cheeks dye a scarlet color from the inability to speak, and she looks away, regaining herself. "I was taking of Amulet. He's my horse." She nodded, now satisfied with the explanation. "I'm sorry," Amberlyn apologizes again, burying her face in her hands. "I'm not very good at this."

Faye thought about it, and pulled her head away, taken aback. She didn't have a reason to be here at all. "What am I doing here?" she repeated, thinking aloud. She gathered her thoughts, searching for an explanation. "I guess..." she trailed off, still trying to find the words. She furrowed her brows in frustration, she bit her lower lip, semi-satisfied with the final response floating in her mind. "I guess I was just wandering around avoiding sleep."
Dissatisfied with the outcome of her words, she decided it wasn't enough information. "It's not that I don't like sleep, though. I just receive premonitions of people's futures - often bad-" she stopped herself, frowning, "sorry, am I revealing too much?" while part of her wanted to apologize for turning reassurance into confessing her own problems, the other half wanted to laugh it off because neither knew the proper etiquette of holding (and continuing) conversations. She chose to laugh it off, hoping her nervous laughter would possibly make Amberlyn less uncomfortable. "Saying too much seems to be my specialty, so yeah." she added one more thing, further concluding her awkwardness. She scrunched her nose, "And stopping sentences oddly and abruptly- she interrupts herself with nervous laughter and a disapproving shake of the head, "sorry! I'm talking too much, aren't I?"

Amberlyn laughed anxiously, shaking her head. "No, no, you're fine." The girl chuckled a bit more, crossing her arms. Kicking nervously at the dirt on the ground, she glanced around, searching for anything of interest. "We're a pretty sad set of campers, huh?" She rocked back and forth on her heels, unsure of how to continue. "We can barely even get through a conversation, without..." She let her words fade away, before chuckling. "Gods, we're awful at this." Swallowing hard, Amberlyn fixed her gaze on Faye. "So listen, I was going to lunch, but it can get kind of lonely, I guess, eating alone. I mean, you don't have to come. If there's something you'd rather be doing..."

Faye raised her eyebrows, amused. It was so adorable how she couldn't even ask a question - she had to dance around it. Faye didn't get some sadistic pleasure out of it, but, definitely, was comforted by Amberlyn's evident insecurities. Maybe it made her feel less alone.
"Definitely." the brunette agreed to the stranger's earlier statement. She folded her arms across her chest, giving the ground beneath her famous grimace. She glanced at Amberlyn momentarily and her suppressed her urge to girlishly giggle aloud. "So, like," she began, almost biting her tongue from the need let out a small chortle - a snort resulted, "a date?"
Faye shrugged her shoulders, giddy for a new friend, "Okay, sure!" she held her pinky outwards, cocking her left brow. "As long as we're never not friends." her phrase even made her think, but she left it alone - certain she was right when it came to double-negatives. She, still with her pinky raised, bit her lip and questioned: "Pinky promise?"
If she promised, then she could never break it - neither side could. Sure, it was a childish thing to say, but she couldn't resist. She'll hold onto her childhood for as long as she can. If that means making pinky promises at the age of seventeen - she'll do it.

Amberlyn giggled, an uncommon sound to come from her. "Pinky promise," she agreed, reaching out and interlacing her smallest finger with Faye's. The action acted as a pact for Amberlyn; she knew that neither of them would break it now. To do so would mean to separate them for eternity. "A date?" Amberlyn pondered the word out loud, pursing her lips. "Sure." She smiled faintly, releasing the other girl's pinky finger from her own. Amberlyn's eyes averted Faye's for a moment, the girl standing on her tiptoes. "I'm sorry if I seem...aloof. I usually avert conversation. I guess that sort of ruins it when I do want to talk." Amberlyn sighed, rocking on the ball of her feet. "I'm shy, is pretty much what I'm trying to say." The girl bit at the inside of her mouth, lacing her hands together behind her back. "It might take you a while to warm up to me. I am an actual person though; it just might take you a while to figure that out."

Fayelyn’s face lit up, and she felt her whole body rise, excited. “Yes, a date.” she squeaked – almost squealed. Of course, neither party knew it was a real date (Faye thought), but Amberlyn probably replied like so to humor the two. “Same.” she commented, attempting to reassure her, but then she scrunched her nose. “Okay, not quite. I just don’t know how to converse.” she let out a chuckle, then frowned, uncertain if she was properly conforting Amberlyn. Her brother, Connor, was the only person that was around to teach her things – which included the etiquette of conversation. Although he knew all the cues, it never ended well in reality. They were kids after all, so Fayelyn can’t blame him.
The brunette shyly twisted her fingers together behind her back, anxious. She bit her lip, and her feet shuffled her feet quickly – almost as if she was uncomfortably dancing, “So, I’ll you tomorrow, then?”
