Subject: Thoughts of What Had Happened [Private] Thu Aug 19, 2010 12:35 pm

Riley stomped through the sand, far in the distance he could make out his cabin, but that wasn't going to solve anything. He needed to hit something or someone to calm his anger. "Chris Jackson," He said out loud, "If I ever get my chance... I'll mess you up..." he threw his fist forward, slamming it into a tree ahead. The tree shook at the impact, the leaves drifting through the air onto the summer grass, and some on the sand.

He withdrew his hand from the tree, he had left quite a mark. He was used to it, the constant years of training had its effect. Taking his attention off the thee, he lifted his hand up against the sun, watching as slight drips of blood drop from a cut from his hand onto the golden sand. "Tch... That'll do, for now..." Leaning back against the tree, he closed his eyes, his thoughts roaming through the events of what had happened.

Chris Jackson, an Athena kid, had insulted him. The prejudice of being brainless was always among the Ares kids, but not much people dared to speak of it. He must feel brave... He thought. He could feel a light breeze brushing across his face, the cold air against his cut seemed to sting, though he did not wince. His eyes kept closed as he waited for time to pass by.

"Why are you hurting the tree?" A boy asked, leaning against another tree and raising an eyebrow. Pushing off the tree, he surveyed the damage and let out a low, impressed whistle. Trees were pretty darn strong, so to leave a dent like that was definitely something to acknowledge. Felix was definitely glad that the Ares kids were on their side of this war.

He wondered if he could fix this. Fixing it with an intense look, Felix concentrated on the tree and let his mind wander around a little bit. Nope. This wasn't going to work. Turning back to the other boy, he grinned. Better to just forgive him rather than be angry. But not forgive and forget. Never forget.

"Remarkable punch you got there, but next time try to take your anger out on a pillow or something, man." He said, recognizing the guy once he examined his face. Well, sort of recognizing him. Felix knew that he was from the Ares cabin but he wasn't quite sure what his name was. It started with a.. J? Or no, an R. His name was Ryan? That wasn't right. How about Right? Some people in camp had some pretty unique names but Right wasn't right either. Maybe he should reintroduce himself? He never really talked to Ares kids much.

"I think we've met before but I'll introduce myself again, I'm Felix Haywood, cabin leader of Demeter." He said, wondering if the guy would think he was dense or something. Truth be told, he was a little dense but not really. Just a bit. Or so he thought.

Deciding to not try for a handshake, Felix was about to look off at the water when he spotted something thick, and red dripping off the kid's hand. Blood. He realized, clenching his teeth and looking at the guy in a worried way. "You alright?" He asked, frowning and gesturing towards his hand.

Riley's head instantly turned toward the direction of the unknown voice, his hand sliding down his waist to the hilt of Backlasher, his fingers tightening around it, ready to be unleashed at a moment's notice. He relaxed his grip, however, when he saw who it was. Felix Haywood. It wasn't a hard name to remember, he was a Cabin Leader after all. "Felix." He muttered. "Eh?" His expression showed he was confused, before thinking back.

"I didn't hurt it, I just dented it." He responded to Felix's question. Unlike children of Demeter, Riley had little to no care for nature. To him, nature was just a different battlefield, where he would fight. That's all he cared about. Winning. Nothing else concerned him, maybe perhaps revenge on those who said something about him.

He smirked at Felix's first statement, and slowly smiling at the second. "Remarkable punch eh, it's natural for a training person like I am... As for pillows, they're too weak. No challenge." Riley liked challenges, he liked the feeling of achievement, it simply motivated him.

"I'm Riley, son of Ares... Though I think you could guess that from before." He replied, his eyes wandering off toward the beach, where Chris Jackson was at. He clenched his fist at the thought of that guy. As Felix gestured toward his bleeding hand, he shook his head. "It's nothing I'm not used to." He said simply.

Ah! His name was Riley. "Denting them hurts them though." He said, chuckling a bit and scratching his head. "Try punching a bunch of pillows then? If you do that, your hand won't get hurt." He suggested, unhooking his canteen of nectar from his belt and offering it to Riley. Sure, it was supposed small, but it would still hurt, and it would be pretty irritating.

"Them. They may be alive, but they feel no pain. They're defenseless." He said simply, he didn't care if he offended Felix in any way. "I'm son of Ares, Felix, I'm not afraid of a little pain from punching something." His eyes drifted from the sky, focusing on Felix. He saw the canteen of nectar, he shook his head. "Don't want it. This will heal soon enough." Riley replied, rejecting his offer.

Each step Luce took away from the beach turned heavier and heavier until she slowed down into a walk. Legs throbbing with pain, usually perfect hair all messed up, panic-stricken eyes...yup, she must've looked rabid, crazy, nuts.

But this brought her back to her senses. Why let two boys ruin her day? Luce straightened her dress, ran her fingers through her hair and walked back, ignoring the pain of the muscle she pulled.

Squinting for any other people, she spotted two different figures a few meters away. One looked vaguely familiar and the other was, well, huge. Luce could tell the not-so-feminine figure was a very muscular camper. Should she try to converse with them?

This was why Felix hadn't tried to shake his hand. Nobody at camp seemed to shake hands. What did they think that they would catch a disease if they shook his hand? Or maybe Felix Haywood wasn't worthy of shaking people's hands. He was, after all, a Demeter kid, cabin leader of Demeter at that. Demeter kids were soft, only good at growing plants. Not meant to be out in the battlefield.

If there was anything Felix hated more than an abused plant it was when people underestimated others.

Mussing his hair, he re-hooked the canteen onto his belt, crossed his arms and looked around. He wasn't exactly fond of the ideas people had of certain cabins either. They were so.. stupid. Felix couldn't think of anything better to describe it. Annoying, idiotic, foolish. The idea that some cabins thought they were better than others made him mad. Enraged in fact. As infuriated as an Athena kid if you interrupted them while they were pouring over manuscripts or reading one of their encyclopedia sized novels.

He glared at another tree and the branches seemed to shudder and twist around each other without him knowing what he was doing. Shutting his eyes in annoyance, he clenched his jaw and tried to calm down a bit before opening his eyes and noticing that there was some girl a little bit away from him.

Tensing a little bit, Felix wondered if he should approach her or not. She didn't look as if she would approach them so maybe if he left her alone he wouldn't have to deal with hiding the fact that he was slightly irritated. Heaving a silent sigh, he decided to walk over to her and he grinned despite the fact that he didn't really want to right now.

"Hey, nice day to spend at the beach today, isn't it?"

Riley's thoughts left the current situation, his eyes closed. He could still feel the blazing light coming from the sun, making the supposed-blackness white. He relaxed his body, relying more on the tree to keep straight, his body leaning tightly against it. His thoughts roamed back to Chris Jackson, the one that brought him here. Otherwise he might still be speaking to the Aphrodite kid. He could hear footsteps, probably from Felix as they went in the direction of the sea. He thought he had just went to take a breeze, before hearing him speak.

Interested, Riley opened his eyes, the sudden light blurred his vision, his arm raising to block the light from getting into his eyes. There, he saw two figures. The closer one was Felix, he was right when he thought he had walked toward the beach. The other. The Aphrodite girl, the one he had seen earlier. "So she left that Athena kid..." He muttered. Pushing his body away from the tree, he approached Felix and the girl, listening closely to what they were speaking of.

Great. What had he asked her? Luce knew it was something about the beach but she couldn't quite comprehend since she was busy staring at the boy's smoldering chocolate brown eyes, they looked happy... seemingly unfazed by the camp's situation. Whereas her eyes, Luce guessed, seemed unwelcoming, cold even. Many thanks to its strange color.

Finally, she pulled away from his gaze. Luce would have to think of an answer fast. She cleared her throat and said "Mhm, yeah." Well, it was the safest answer but what if the reply wasn't meant to be a 'yeah' or 'mhm', rather a 'no'. Her eyebrows creased with frustration. Why did she care what the guy thought of her anyway? Luce quickly dismissed the thought as easily as it went into her head.

OOC: Yes it's unfazed, not unphased. ;) And, no, Luce is not in love with Felix.

Descriptive answer. Felix thought in an amusement. The girl seemed distracted, as if she hadn't quite heard what he had asked of her. Chuckling a little bit, he looked off at the water and noted that it was the same colour as the girl's eyes.

Funny. The water was the same colour as her eyes, not the other way around. Maybe it was because he never really came to the beach in the years he had been at camp. Or maybe it was the fact that this girl reminded him of a lady, with her dress and her pretty blond hair. Then and there, Felix decided her would try and become friends with lady here, and keep her safe, make sure she got treated right, the way she deserved.

It was rare that he felt protective. He mostly felt it when he saw someone who looked like a real lady, the type of women he reserved a spot in his heart for. "I'm Felix, Felix Haywood, son of Demeter." He said, smiling in a friendly way.

"I'm Luce, Luce Quinn, Daughter of Aphrodite" Luce instinctively stretched out her right hand, waiting for it to be shook. It was unbelievable that this guy was a son of Demeter. All the while Luce thought that Demeter kids were scrawny and weak but apparently... she was wrong.

Today, she gained a new and deep respect for Demeter kids, growing plants and all. Why hadn't Luce respected them in the first place? Well, they always seemed to show off their cool abilities to the point that Luce found it annoying. But all that has changed.

She beamed at Felix, her cheeks flushed with color.

Riley watched the two closely behind, he didn't speak, nor did he introduce himself. He could already tell he wasn't popular with either of them. He had punched a tree, damaging nature, something Felix was very fond of. And he had also started a fight with an Athena kid. The very thought of Chris made his fists close tightly together.

He listened to the two's conversation however, he could see that Luce, the Aphrodite girl, was blushing. What is this, love at first sight? That was the first thought that came to head, and it really seemed like it was true. He had a smirk on his face, though he made no sound, letting the two continue.

Felix had to restrain himself from squealing like a girl, which would sound strange since he had a pretty deep voice and squealing would be pretty hard to do, but he knew he could do it for Luce. Oblivious of the fact that Luce's cheeks were colouring, he grinned and shook her hand, trying not to do it quite as energetically as he felt like doing right then. "I thought I was the only one who shook hands at this camp." He admitted before brightening.

"But apparently that's not so. Nice to meet you, Luce."

Luce. It was pretty close to Lady. Started with an L and had four letters in it. It also wasn't a name you heard everyday. That was pretty cool. Felix's name was kind of uncommon, but it was still pretty common. Did that make sense? Well, he didn't care if it made sense or not.

Luce noticed his face lightened and seemed happier. That was good, she had made an okay impression.

"Well, you aren't alone then" Luce said, withdrawing her hand. Her sadness had reduced incredibly, thanks to Felix here. Why did he have this effect on her? It was as if she could trust him with her life. But maybe it was just his size.

The fog thickened and it felt colder somehow, Luce felt a shiver coming from her spine. She quickly shook it away after seeing her hands start to tremble.

Riley was watching the two with interest, his breathing was quite silent, so unless Luce saw him, he doubted they would actually notice him around. Plus, they seemed to be busy with conversation. But it got boring after they both seemed so polite, nice, and in general just not his type of people to be with.

Riley shrugged, turning his back from the two, regaining his position beside the tree, leaning against it once more. He was still listening closely, though not exactly watching. He didn't need to do that. He sighed silently, letting the two continue.

"Are you cold?" He asked, raising an eyebrow before thinking better of it and shrugging off his leather jacket. Offering it to her silently, he glanced at Riley, who hadn't said anything to Luce. Did they already know each other? Probably. He didn't know that many people at camp, besides there were hundreds of people at camp and he couldn't possibly know them all, much less who they knew.

Warm brown eyes returning to sea green-turquoise eyes and Felix smiled again.

Shocked by the sudden act of kindness, Luce took hold of the leather jacket. But, instead of putting it on herself, she slung it across Felix's broad shoulders. "Even big guys like you get cold" Luce patted her new acquintance's back "and besides, it's my fault for not bringing my own sweater."

Afraid she might meet Felix's gaze, Luce focused on a nearby tree. Looks like they weren't alone.

"Hey, you're that Ares kid from earlier." was all she managed to say.

Riley watched silently as Felix offered his leather jacket to Luce. He could feel his heart beating faster, his mind raced. Was it jealousy? He never spoke to Luce properly. Was it love at first sight? He doubted that, his Ares' traits kicking in to stop him from thinking about something as... Stupid and useless as that. He shook his head, clearing his thoughts, just as Luce handed the jacket back.

Riley's heart began to have a normal beat again. "What is this..." He muttered, shaking his head once more, before hearing Luce speak. Her voice was beautiful, or it seemed that way to him. But before, when she had spoken to Felix, he found nothing special about it. "Yeah. I am." He replied, silent but loud enough for her to hear. His eyes focused on the grass, it his eyes closed in an attempt to shut his mind from useless thoughts.

“Yeah. That Athena kid was quite a shocker wasn’t he?” Luce smiled at the boy, she had no right to be angry at him anyway.

Cautiously, she approached him, her right hand outstretched. “I’m Luce” her voice was a mere whisper, “What’s your name?”

Riley smiled, something he rarely did. It felt right. Yet it was weird at the same time. A weird feeling, but he didn't think about it. He nodded at Luce's comment, smiling. She had agreed with him, his heart felt lighter. Another weird feeling. Why was it happening now? Was it because of Luce? He wasn't sure, nothing like this had happened before. 12 years at camp, and he found no one he admired. Maybe this was going to be his first.

As Luce extended her arm for a handshake, his mind didn't allow him to think. He instinctively reached forward, taking in Luce's hand. It was strange. Rare and weird, yet again. Too much was happening today was all he could think of, apart from the fact that Luce's natural beauty just had him drawn in. "I'm Riley," He replied, a smile appearing on his lips.

Luce unconsciously looked down at her right hand. His touch... It felt weird. His touch sent tingles down her spine. She withdrew her hand, holding it close. Luce gazed at Riley’s eyes for a brief moment.

Well, that was awkward. Luce looked at Riley in awe, there was something about him but this wasn’t the time to find out. She cracked a smile and said “Sorry for the formality of the handshake. I’m actually used to it, forgive me.”

Riley shrugged, thinking nothing of it. He never had the habit of shaking hands, and never really shook anyone's unless forced to-- like his early years when the stronger kids pretty much forced him to it. Now? They didn't dare. "Think nothing of it... It's alright..." He was quite speechless. The handshake, and her soothing voice. It was amazing, yet different from what he had experienced before.

Riley never took a liking into any girls, this was a first. And he just felt drawn to her, like something about her just pulled him closer. "I thought you were going to stay with... Chris?" His voice seemed uneven, he found speaking to her awkward, like not wanting to make a fool of himself, yet he still did. He couldn't control his heart, it was beating-- quite fast too. Not even running for hours made it pump blood so rapidly.

Smirking as he leaned against another tree, Felix watched the two in amusement. He knew that Riley would treat Luce right. Sure, he might be a little aggressive but that meant he could protect her all the better, and that was fine with him. Felix did sort of feel like her older brother or something, there was a sort of protectiveness he felt around his family but nothing else. Any more feelings than that would be awkward. Deciding that he would leave the two alone, he hit his head lightly and grinned at them.

"I just remembered, I have to be somewhere right now. Nice to get somewhat acquainted with you both, see you around camp hopefully." He said, saluting before jogging off somewhere else.

Riley turned toward Felix as he spoke, he could see that he was lying, but made no comments. He waved, he was in a bright mood. Not the usual, talk-to-me-I-kill-you sort of aggressiveness. Maybe Luce was making his personality change, or maybe it was just temporary--for when she was there.

Returning his gaze onto Luce, he was speechless again. He wanted to ask her if she felt the same thing he was feeling, but it would just make things awkward. But even if it didn't, his tongue was tied, he couldn't speak a word. He was too drawn into Luce's beauty. Her eyes reminded her of the sea, but with an additional shade of color. But he couldn't make out what it was, the soft gaze she had was too strong for him to able to speak.

“Oh, bye Felix. I guess I’ll see you around then..” Luce’s voice trailed off as she stared toward the direction Felix left. She didn’t want for him to leave, she was terrified to be left alone with Riley with all these weird feelings. Terrified yet somehow excited.

Her gaze went back to Riley. He looked like he’d just seen a ghost. “What’s the matter? Do I look that bad or have you never seen a girl in your life?” Luce shook her head, her sense of humor was horrible.
