I sat on the beach thinking about the dance and what I might wear. "Ahh..." I sighed when I realized this would be a bit hard.

I walked silently across the beach, feeling the sand underneath my bare feet. I heard something that sounded like a sigh and I glanced around. I decided that this was the best time to try and get over my..uh..social awkwardness. I walked over to Wesley and stopped abruptly. I gave a single, awkward wave. "H-Hi," I said with a small, nervous smile. My Australian accent was thick, as it always was, as I spoke.

"Hello." I said, "Nice accent."

My gray eyes were wide with fear at the thought of a conversation. "T-The only letter not appearing on the periodic table is the letter "J"!" I quickly blurted out. I frowned and smacked myself in the head. "I've got to stop doing that..." I muttered in frustration.

I snorted with laughter, "I never liked school."

I stared at him in astonishment. "Why? School is an opportunity to learn knew things, expand your knowledge and better yourself in the long run," I pointed out with a longing look. I missed school...I missed the library by my house that was full of books. Medical books, science books, math books. Fiction and nonfiction. Anything you could imagine. I had a dazed look on my face, remembering the floor to ceiling book shelves.

"The only I heard in that statement was blah, blah, blah. I'm better onstage. I guess it runs in the family though, me being the son of Stone and Euterpe right mate?" I admitted.

"Stone, a famous singer and rockstar from England. His fame has spread to America as well. Euterpe, the Muse of Music. In late Classical times she was named muse of lyric poetry and depicted holding a flute. A few say she invented the aulos or double-flute, though most credit Marsyas with its invention," I said like I was simply relaying facts that had to do with each word I heard.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" I asked an idea forming in my head.

I stared at him curiously. "Um...kind of," I said, remembering Jessie.

"Is that a yes or a no? Don't worry I don't play for that team. I have a girlfriend."

I thought for a moment. "I...don't know. I think that if I said no Jessie would be mad," I said.

"Alright then. Do you wanna learn how to talk to girls without tripping over your words mate?" I asked with a overenthusiastic smile. Like her had just won something on T.V.

I shook my head. "I do that with everyone.." I said.

"That's my point." I said.

I shook my head. "N-No thanks...." I said nervously.

"Chicken." I said. I put my hands under my arms and started clucking like a chicken.

I raised an eyebrow. "Chickens calls are usually deeper than that...more vibrato," I said.

"Quit that." I snorted clucking some more. Except a little deeper.

I frowned. "Sorry...it just sort of happens.." I said. I thought for a moment. "So...what's your girlfriend like?" I asked, trying to start a...what's it called? Conversation.

"Beautiful, smart, funny, a bit crazy, I love her. Did I mention she's beautiful?" I sighed thinking about Penelope right now.

I smiled faintly. "She sounds great," I said simply, stuffing my hands in my pockets.

"Amazing..." I sighed some more.

I nodded my head slowly. "So...what did you like is school? If anything.." I said. It was obvious I was trying to find something we had in common. That's what you're supposed to do, right?

"Band, music, specifically Choir." I said.
