I'M ALWAYS GOING TO WANDER
Iris tiptoed out of her cabin. The air was cool, wind whipping her hair up ever so often. The sky was a mignight blue canvas with little dots of white painted on it. The moon showered the camp in white light. No one had noticed Iris sneaking out of the cabin. They were all partying. "First day of the year and they find reason to yell," she muttered as she walked down the steps. Her siblings never really cared enough about her to notice her. She was in the center of the courtyard. She didn't see anyone as she scanned the cabins. Until she looked towards the Zeus and Hera cabins. There was a black figure outside the Hera cabin. It was too far and too dark to see their face. She tiptoed closer, trying to get a better look.

This was perfect. Absolutely perfect, and Colin wasn't being sarcastic when he thought that. New Years Eve was literally the best time for him to leave. Leave, and never return. Camp was supposed to be his salvation, but whoever told him that was lying. Chiron or Sarah probably told him that, they almost always said something along those lines. Colin hoped Sarah was partying with some of her friends. He hoped she was having a good time, because she really honestly deserved it. The past year had been rough for the both of them because they lost their mother, but Colin had taken the blow ten times worse than his twin sister. Sarah had friends to help her cope, but Colin didn't. Colin didn't have any friends, at least, he didn't think he did. No one talked to him while he ate in the courtyard or practiced sword fighting. He could care less, it just gave him another reason to leave.
Colin fixed his bowtie in the by the door and ran his fingers through his hair. If he was going to go, he was going to go out in style. Not with a bang but a whimper. Colin thought to himself, gripping the sword in his boot. He was going to have to do this quick before his nerves got the best of him. "Who am I?" Colin asked, giving his full attention to his reflection in the mirror. "I am Colin Bane. Son of East River and Heather Bane. Twin brother to Sarah Bane. I am a demigod. I am eighteen years old. And I am going to be reunited with my mother."
With that, Colin snuck out of the Hera cabin, stroking the wood of the door for the last time. He silently said goodbye to it, hoping that no one saw what he was doing. The weird boy with the odd quirks. Odd quirks being putting black tally marks on his arms everyday. Tally marks only he could truly understand. With one last look inside the cabin, Colin saw kids partying and laughing and having a good time. He smiled sadly. He wasn't meant to be a part of that. Walking down the steps, Colin started towards the forest to leave. Leave what, you ask? Ask Colin, and he'll tell you. Leave the land of the living.

Anna May Shauk bursted out of the Zeus cabin with a start. She hadn't gone to the New Years festival. In fact, this entire week had been hard for her. She had spent so much time with people who left this world. The battle and died valiantly, she knew, but it was still hard, especially considering she had dated two of them. The last thing she wanted was to be reminded of the trials she face throughout the past year.
Anna saw Colin Bane right outside the Hera Cabin. Anna had never talked to Colin. Actually, come to think of it, over the past year, she was so heart broken that she didn't really talk to a lot of people. Most of them tended to stay away from her, ever since she had a freak attack after her first boyfriend had died. It only got worse from there. The only thing keeping her at camp was the need to make sure her loved ones didn't die in vain. She wanted to see the Titans fall at her feet and the feet of Camp Half Blood, or die trying.
Anna smiled at Colin. She was nervous talking to him, and as all her smiles in the past week or so, it was less than halfhearted. Why did everyone else have the right to celebrate, when she was standing there mourning three loved ones. She said, "Hey, Colin. You going to the New Years party at the beach?"

Kat walked out of the cabin nine and started towards the Hermes cabin. She was going to the New Year's party with a friend. It felt nice to have a few friends and going to a party with them. She smiled. This day couldn't be ruined. She put her hands in her pockets and continued walking. She didn't dress special just wearing a plaid shirt, jeans, a pair of converse, and a jacket. She had her weapon hung at her neck.
Kat saw a few friends on the way to the Hermes cabin. Some people she talked to, but didn't hang out with. "Hey Anna! Hey Colin!" She yelled to them on the way to cabin 11. It felt weird to be in a happy mood. She wasn't usually in a happy mood. Most of the happy moods were ruined by her dead mother. Flashback always tended to come and ruin her day. They better not come today, She thought. Eventually Kat arrived at her friend's cabin. "Ready to go Iris?" She said with a smile.

Ivy:
Ivy smiled as she stepped out of the Hades cabin. Her combat boot clunked on the ground as she walked. She adjusted her 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' torn v-neck. The tear reminded her she was going to have to beat the ass who did it to a bloody pulp. "Stupid-" she cursed the boy under her breath, shoving her hands on the pockets of her leather jacket, and kept walking towards the beach. No one had invited her to go to the party for no one really likes the Hades children. You think they'd be over it by now, but they weren't and it was Ivy's mission to crash the party. Besides, maybe some of her friends would be there with some beer. She heard some girl yelling names and cringed. Annoying σκύλα, Ivy thought, can't she shut up?

Iris's eyes widened for a moment when Kat sidled up to her. Her attempt at being covert had failed. She was at least grateful that Kat wasn't questioning why she'd been slowly moving towards the boy, Colin. Even though she never really cared about what people thought of her, sneaking up on a guy was flat out creepy. She perked up and smiled. "Yeah!" She looked to the Anna girl and Colin. "Are you two coming?" she asked them, trying to do her best to be polite. She didn't have many friends at camp after all. A few more wouldn't hurt. Maybe it was spider sense or something, but Iris felt like she was being watched. I looked around the cabins again. There was a girl, maybe fifty feet away from her. She looked irritated. What was more scary to Iris was that she appeared to be alone. Why is she out here? she wondered. The girl was clearly a Hades kids, and they didn't go out much... Iris dismissed the girl and turned back to the others.

So having people surrounding him put a damper on his plans a bit. No matter. Colin could still do what he wanted even if people were around him. Some kids, like Kat and Iris, he knew quite well. They could almost be considered his friends. Only Colin Bane didn't have friends. There was this girl, Anna, whom Colin had seen around and learned her name, but had never really quite talked too. They flocked him like baby ducks would flock their mothers back at the farm in Ireland. Another girl was far enough away from them that Colin couldn't tell who it was.
"Uh..." Colin said when Anna asked him if he was going to the party. The answer was no. But if he said now, he'd attract followers into the forest. And if he attracted followers into the forest, then Colin's plan wouldn't work, no matter how hard he tried. The answer couldn't be yes. Because that would be lying, and if Colin lied it would tarnish the image of his mother who had raised him to be honest and truthful no matter what. He wouldn't want to upset his mother, even if she was dead. But saying yes was the only way to get what he wanted. Besides, a little white lie never hurt anybody, right? At the end of the night, everyone would still have their happily ever afters. "Yes?" Colin said weakly, and then he cleared his throat and said "Yes. Yes I am." More confidently.
As more people came, Colin became more and more apprehensive about how he was going to pull all of this off. Could he really do it? Of course he could, he would just have to rework his plan of action a little bit. So instead of running away from Iris and Anna and Kat, he smiled as best he could. "Hey, guys." He said, trying oh so hard not to be uncovered. This was the last time anyone would ever see Colin Bane. He wanted them to remember him, so why not treat them nicely?

Anna May Shauk plastered a fake smile on her face. She actually hadn't been planning to go to the party. Maybe this was the gods telling her that she didn't need the party. She said, "Well, I actually wasn't planning on going, but seeing as you have an entourage, I might as well join..."
Anna spaced out for a second, thinking about all the things that had happened to her in the past year. Would this year be any better? Would it be any easier to cope? Or would the years worsen as they went by. Anna wasn't sure she would be able to go on if the years got worse.
Anna snapped herself out of her own worries and turned to the group of people that had gathered. She smiled halfheartedly. They were probably going to be the last people at the party, but Anna didn't really care. Her thoughts the moment before were evidence enough for that. She said, "Well, we better get going then, we don't want to be late for New Years."

Kat smiled when Iris said she was ready. Then she invited Anna and Colin. A few more friends couldn't hurt right? She smiled. Hopefully this would be a better New Year's then last year. She wanted the new year to be filled with friends and building. She had been dying to go on a quest, but she didn't want to ask for too much. When Colin and Anna said they were going, she smiled even wider. "Let's go then!" She said. She grabbed Iris's and Anna's wrists and started dragging them to the New Year's party.
When they had eventually gotten to the party, Kat let go. She gasped. She hadn't been to a party in a long time, at least a party like this. A nymph came and offered them drinks. "Thanks!" She said opening her can of soda. She took a sip and looked back at her friends. "So um what do you guys want to do?" She said taking another sip of her soda.

Ivy Ivy had noticed one of the girls in the group had looked her way. she scowled at her then continued towards the party. Once she arrived at the party she searched the crowd for her friends and finally came across some of her friends from the Hermes cabin. She pushed one of them from her chair and they all laughed. She sat and talked for a while with them and got up to get something when some girl ran into her and the drink in the girls hand went all down Ivy's shirt. Her blood began to boil as she just stared at the girl. Blinded by anger Ivy grabbed a wad of the girl's hair and twisted it. "Watch where you're going." Ivy snapped at her and released her.

Iris turned around to see that Kat had bumped into the Hades girl. Now that the light was better, Iris could see it was Ivy. Iris never saw much of Ivy, but she knew that she was Alec's girlfriend. Alec had seemed pretty much in love whenever he talked about her. Though, when they'd last spoken, and Iris had asked how Ivy was, Alec had met her face with a scowl. Iris could see a fight beginning as Ivy grabbed Kat's hair. She rushed between them. "Everybody, calm down. It's okay, just an accident. No need to fight, Ivy," she hurriedly said to diminish any kind of quarrel. She looked at Ivy. She had to be a few years younger than her. She hadn't looked friendly when Iris had seen her in the courtyard, and she did not look any kinder now. Iris could understand angry people. She'd been bitter like that once before. When she had left Austin, she pretended to be tough by acting angry. Pretty soon, she was angry, but angry with herself. Iris pushed those memories to the side. She knew she couldn't have some sort of a mental breakdown now. She looked at the others. Anna just seemed to be noticing what was going, while Colin stared at Iris. She awkwardly smiled at him.

Colin kept mostly quiet while the others talked and greeted each other. He wasn't much of a talker since he hadn't really known anybody but Sarah and his mom for more than half his life. Well, he'd known sheep and horses and ducks and things, but you couldn't really have a conversation with something that would reply back to you. He merely shrugged when Kat asked what they wanted to do. He didn't care what they did, he only cared about he did. With more and more people coming, it was getting harder to get away and sneak into the forest as silent as a shadow.
He followed the crowd down to the party, where he declined any food or drink that was offered. Colin wasn't hungry or thirsty. He wasn't anything, really. Colin looked down at his arms and saw the black tallies that crawled up his arms, ending just above the elbows. The marks gave Colin a sense of hope and warmth, like somehow they reminded him of his home back in Ireland. But that was silly and weird, as Colin's farm was always so full of life and laughter and love, while the black lines were symbols of sadness and grief. Colin tuned out the others as he made a plan in his head. He knew how he was going to escape into the forest. The campers had started to chat. 10, 9, 8...
And his plan would have commenced accordingly, had opportunity not chosen to revel itself at that very exact moment in time. Some girl had grabbed Kat's hair and whispered something threateningly in her ear. While Iris broke them up so there wouldn't be a fight during the New Years Eve party, Colin snuck past everyone, exhaling a sigh of relief. He didn't see Iris smile or stare at him as he started up to the path to the forest.
3, 2- BOOM! A stampede of thunder traveled down the very hill Colin had been walking on. There were monsters. Monsters everywhere, and they were coming to kill the campers. It was like a genocide, only both sides were fighting back. A war. And Colin was smack dab in the middle of it. He could handle people stalling his plans of dying, but monsters? Obviously some god up there wanted him to stay alive. He rolled out of the way of a minotaur who didn't see him there. Colin stayed down in the tall grass as monsters trampled the ground beside him, completely ignoring him. He took out his sword. Nothing was going to stop him.

Anna May Shauk actually jumped at the boom. She couldn't believe she had jumped at fireworks. Wait no, she told herself, that wasn't the sound fireworks made. This complicated things a bit. Anna took her lightning bolt charm on her necklace and shouted out something in Greek and the next thing she knew she was holding her bow and arrow, her signature weapon.
"Watch out guy! Kronos' army!" she shouted as she shot an hour at a hell hound and watched it disintegrate. She knew she wasn't going to stay that lucky forever. She was glad she also had a knife for when she ran out of arrows. Sure, her quiver would replenish itself eventually, but she'd rather not wait that long if she could help it.
Anna moved to hide behind a shack for shelter from the monsters. Campers who had forgotten their weapons panicked, trying to run away but foolishly getting killed by monsters or by arrows flying through the air. So help the gods, Anna thought before saying, "How is it that they always make it through the borders? Where are they coming from?"

Kat turned around when she bumped into someone. "I'm so so so-" She wasn't able to finish because the girl took a piece of her hair. The smile of having a good time was washed away with anger. Kat simply took a chunk of the girl's hair and pulled her to the ground. "Don't touch me." She let go of the girl's hair and Iris went in between them. "She started it."Kat said like a five year old. She rolled her eyes at the girl.
Then she heard a boom. It certainly wasn't the fireworks because that wasn't the usual noise they made and she hadn't made them to make that sound. She quickly turned her mother's dog tags into her throwing knives. She had quickly threw them at a few hellhounds that were starting to run toward them. They turned to gold dust and she grabbed her throwing knives. She went to where Anna was. "Where's Colin? Did he die?" She asked worriedly. She looked around and spotted him in the forest. She cursed in ancient Greek. She threw her throwing knives at a few more hellhounds, before looking to see where the rest of her friends were.

Iris's stomach was doing somersaults. The monsters were everywhere. Kat had a point, how did they keep getting in? Iris had always thought that the supposed protection that the border had was just a bunch of shit. Colin. Where was he? Iris's heart was racing. She pulled out from her combat boot a slender and slightly long recorder of all things. She blew into it, playing a three note tune. Suddenly the recorder transformed into her two daggers, ένας and δυο. The blades shined silver in the moonlight. Iris could barely manage to see the Greek symbols that were carved into it. She gripped the stone handles tightly and looked back up at the others. "Okay, we need some form of a plan. Most importantly, we need to find Colin," she announced to everyone. Iris imagined walking over the bodies of the fallen, about to step over one more, then noticing it was Colin's bloody and and scarred face. She shivered. Iris had seen Colin around a few times. He had seemed lonely and sad, and he typically avoided people. She had always wanted to, but of course never really had, befriend him. They were mere acquaintances. However, Iris could not bear the thought of Colin dead. She rose, just in time to see a cyclops, jumping over the shack and onto them. Thinking fast, Iris threw δυο at the beast. The dagger implanted itself in the cyclops's chest. There was a horrible cry. "EVERYBODY MOVE!" Iris yelled. The girls did as she said. The cyclops fell on what would have been them had they not scrambled away in time. Iris was panting. She approached the monster, removed δυο, and then stabbed it a few more times for good measure. The cyclops disintegrated into golden dust. It had gone back to Tartarus, where it belonged.

Colin could literally smell the monsters' toe jam. Gods, it was so disgusting, and it was all he could do to not puke and gag and draw attention to himself. He curled into a ball, putting his hands over his face, though Colin supposed it didn't matter what he looked like in a couple of moments, after all, he was going to die. One way or the other, he would die. Colin just wished it would be by his own hand so no one would be at fault for murdering him but himself. So with his sword in hand, he started to get up, and he saw Iris, fighting and directing people and wait, was she looking at him? That was new, no one ever even gave a thought to Colin Bane, let alone looked at him for a prolonged period of time. He felt like he should say something to Iris, something like 'Come away with me,' or 'I'm fine,'. But he didn't. Colin was the master of being awkward and making the most stupid decisions ever, and when it came to girls and flirting, he was 10 times worse. So instead of acknowledging Iris, Colin Bane ran up the hill once again, stabbing monsters at will, turning them into golden dust that flowed down the mount of dirt and grass like waves.
He just kept running, because that was what he did. He ran from his problems because he didn't want to face them. Instead of accepting that his mother had died, Colin mourned over it and wouldn't let it go. In his mind, everything was his fault. Sometimes he wished he was never born. Sometimes he wished he could end it all. The second wish of his was coming true, right here, right now. Colin had reached the top of the hill, killing the remaining monsters that were around him, sending them back to Hades' realm. Finally he was alone, or so he thought. Colin never knew when somebody followed him. He was oblivious in that sense.
Goodbye, Colin thought, his last thought. He closed his dark green eyes and let the wind whip his dark brown hair around his head, creating a muddy halo above him. Colin Bane felt as light as a feather as he pressed his sword into his chest, waiting for death to come. But he couldn't stab himself, he just couldn't. Colin stood there, frozen, the blade still pressed lightly to his skin, but no blood came. After all, what could you expect from a big chicken?

Anna May Shauk was almost too busy shooting Kronos's army down with arrows to notice anything else that was going on. Anna had to duck to miss a hell hound that had pounced at her. As it soared over her she notched another arrow and shot it, but as she was doing so, she saw Colin in her peripheral vision.
Anna didn't wait to see if her arrow had hit the hell hound. It was probably still alive, just a little angrier. She whipped her head around at Colin, seeing what he was doing; the same thing she feared she would some day do to herself. Anna screamed out, "COLIN! No!"
Anna Shauk looked to see if their were any arrows flying through the air and tried to run to Colin. Hopefully she would be able to get there before she could stop him. She didn't think seeing Colin commit suicide was good for her mentality state either, even if she barely knew the guy.

When Iris said to move out, Kat quickly tumbled out of the way. Hellhounds kept pouring out of the forest and onto the battlefield. She cursed under the breath. Why were there so many monsters? Did Kronos have all of them on his team? Couldn't Kronos just give them a break once in awhile? The zombie apocalypse had ended only a few months ago. She sighed. She continued flicking her knives at the hellhounds, killing them one by one. She was slowly growing tired considering it was one in the morning. She shook her head to get rid of the thoughts. She had to focus before she accidentally hit a camper.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Anna running to Colin. "Damn Colin, can you just stay still for five minutes?" She said exasperated. She followed Anna up the hill, with throwing knives in her hands. When she got to the top of the hill, she almost wished she didn't. She almost wished didn't follow Anna. She almost wished she hadn't gone to the New Year's party. But she knew she could never go back in time. She wasn't Doctor Who, a time lord. She only wished she could replay this day, but she knew she couldn't. She couldn't stop anything from happening. She sunk down to her knees, the image just replaying. Her throwing knives fell to the ground. The rest of her body fell to the ground. She didn't even care if someone or something trampled her her. She just wanted to be alone.
Let's replay back to see what Kat saw shall we? She followed Anna up the hill, with throwing knives in her hands. A hellhound was dangerously near Colin. She swore under her breath. Really Colin? She thought. She had flung one of her throwing knives, missing the first time. She threw the other one of her throwing watching it turn into gold dust. She collected her knives and found the one she threw first, to be impaled in Colin's chest.

Once, when Iris was trying to sneak onto a cargo train to get from Baltimore to Manhattan, she was perched in a forty foot tall oak tree. It bent so close to the tracks that she was planning to jump like they did in movies. When she heard the train heading her way, she crawled to the end of one of the tree's branches. The train came by with a loud NEEEEEERRRRRR, and she jumped. Only, the branch snapped under her weight when she stood and she fell face first on to the top of the train. The impact of her stomach on the probably two ton metal of the train did not go well. She fractured one of her ribs and the wind was knocked out of her. She just lay on top of the train for awhile, clutching her stomach, trying to breathe normally. She would have slept where she was, but the night brought wind and cold. She eventually climbed down one of the ladders on the side of the train car and threw herself inside it. She was lucky that the sliding metal doors had fallen off the car, and inside was only water bottles and juice drinks, the one thing Iris had been lacking. Her stomach still ached when she tried gulping down the water. The feeling of not being able to breathe was back. no Iris ran over to Colin and dropped to her knees. Kat was a few steps away, sobbing. Iris removed the dagger. It had buried itself so deep though, it was hard to get out. Tears flooded out of Iris's eyes. It was like someone broke the Hoover Dam. She put her hand to his temple. "You're okay, you're fine, you're going to be okay, okay?" she whimpered, stroking his hair now. "I know I'm not, you don't have to preten-" he began telling her, but Iris refused to let him finish. "No!" she sobbed. She was about to continue her whimpering but Colin cut her off. "Iris." No no no no no, the thought kept tumbling through her mind. This is not happening this is not HAPPENING. "Love, before I go-" "DON'T SAY THAT." "Before, I go," Colin began. His voice was strained. Iris knew she was loosing him. She sobbed again. She couldn't control it. "Tell me a story..." Iris laughed. It was a genuine laugh, but mixed with disgusting sorrow of tears and red eyes and a stuffy nose. "A story? Okay..." she said quietly. "Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved adventure..." Iris told not just any story. She told her story. She told Colin about her adventures when she ran away, she told him about exotic places she'd seen. Colin smiled. Iris was nearly to the end of the story, when Colin's, head went stiff, and his expression was glassy. She stopped mid-sentence. She sat there for a moment. Then the crying began again. This time she threw herself over his body, hugging him tightly. She sobbed louder than ever before, the tears falling onto the dirt, creating a tiny puddle. "No..." she kept crying, it was always no no no no no. She looked back at Kat and Anna. She sniffled. Then she sat up. She looked at Colin's glassy eyes. They were green. Like moss. Beautiful green. She closed his eyes and kissed his forehead. "Lonely boy, goodnight."
