hollowed out and filled up with hate
James felt a sudden urge to actually be nice to someone, although he wasn't exactly sure why. He was a naturally nice guy, although staying at camp for this long had changed him a little, although the tough shell that had fasted a tight grip around him was slowing cracking; he was trying to escape and become the normal James again, and he could feel some unnamed people actually helping him to do that. So, because of this, the son of Ares found himself getting up just after dawn and getting changed, deciding that he may as well do things with his good mood before he slipped back into the angry James he had converted to as of late. And the one thing he could think of doing, as it was on his mind, was going to see Taylor; he worried about her, even if he was still sporting a faint bruise on his cheek.
Running a hand through his messy brown hair and pushing his back off his face, James wondered if he should actually be doing this; going to get Taylor himself, seeing as whenever they ran into each-other, something bad happened. But James found himself wanting to see her a little, in a really weird way that he tried to actually ignore, although not enough so they he could stop himself from knocking on the door to the icy cabin and pushing it open slightly. He found the temperature change from the boiling outdoors to the cool insides quite off-putting, but he tried to ignore that too. "Taylor?" He called out, wondering if he was wasting his time or not, a little hesitant, "Are you in here? I was thinking we could go out." he really tried just to keep it casual, seeing as if he said something else, he might gain a few odd looks from anyone else around.

TAYLOR BROOKS✰
Taylor felt like a robot. Everything she did nowadays was mechanical, a step-by-step process that didn't need much thinking. Get up, go for a morning jog, eat, train, eat, train and eat some more, sleep and the cycle repeats. It was a daily routine that Taylor was forcing herself to get used to and she didn't really want to spend time on anything else. Maybe this was easier, eliminating things that could make life harder, like emotions. But as much as she tried not to admit it to herself, she just couldn't get rid of everything no matter how hard she tried, and the most she could do was to try and lessen the confusion and the pain. In reality, she had started the process of withdrawing into a hollow human shell slowly filling up with hate.
Taylor had just finished taking a shower when one of her brothers knocked on her door and said that someone was here to see her. Putting on a loose shirt and tracksuit pants, she was still fixing red hair up in a ponytail when she went out of her room, her hands freezing into place on her barely tied up hair as her already indifferent features took a sour turn.
Ignoring the weird looks she got from her siblings (who quickly looked away when her eyes flickered to them), Taylor made her way towards the door where James was waiting, not making any move to let him in. She could still feel eyes on her back, making her wonder if the other inhabitants of the cabin knew more than they let on and they just pretended they were clueless about it all. Setting her hand on the edge of the door, Taylor met James' eyes determinedly.
"What are you doing here?"

After being told from one of Taylor's brothers that he would have to wait a moment for her to get ready, James found himself trying not to become impatient seeing as he couldn't wait for long without getting frustrated. But he was in a good mood again today, so he found himself better at just standing at the entrance and waiting for the redhead to come and meet him. From where he stood in the doorway, he was able to see in slightly, and found it amusing how all of Taylor's siblings didn't want to come anyway near him. He didn't understand that himself, although any sane person would be able to see why people would want to keep their distance from him. Then again, James wasn't exactly sane.
When Taylor did finally come to meet James, he was expecting more of a reaction than just a 'what are you doing here?'. He didn't know what he was expecting, although he could say for a fact that it had been more than that. Maybe a smile or something, instead of just a plain question. He tried not to let it falter him, offering her up a toothy grin and catching glimpses of peeking Tom's behind her, although it just made him feel a little more confident knowing that people wanted to look. If Taylor was mad at him, which he started to think about, he didn't know why; after all, hadn't he told her what she wanted to know? Answered her question?
Shrugging a choosing to repeat himself, James met her eyes again with his blue ones, "I was hoping you wanted to go out." He cocked his head to the side a little, "Head over to the music festival or something. We could...talk." He put emphasis on the last word, knowing that it was what she wanted and using that to his advantage.

TAYLOR BROOKS✰
Taylor tried not to notice the hushed snatches of conversation behind her as she considered James. There was still a light mark on his cheek where her knuckles had connected. The faintest feeling guilt stirred from the depths of her mind.
So James wanted to talk now. A few days ago, she would have happily obliged. She would have grabbed the opportunity without even thinking it through. But a lot can change in a short span of time. It didn't take an eternity for people's opinions to change, for them to learn things that turned their world outside down. Sometimes it took only a conversation with the right person. And in Taylor's case, there were two persons. And one of them was the boy in front of her.
Maybe she should refuse his offer. She had enough of this, she had enough confusion in her life, and talking only led to more problems and puzzles. No more trying to sort out the truth from the lies, because with her memories permanently gone, there was no way of knowing if she was indeed on the right track. But when she was about to tell James 'no' with some crappy excuse she would make up on the spot, the fading bruise on his cheek stopped her before she could even open her mouth. Whether he deserved that punch or not, she had been at fault for acting so impulsively and violently. She owed him. She certainly didn't need more confusion, but she sure as hell did not want to feel even guiltier because let's face it, most of the things here were her fault as well.
"Alright," she finally said. "We'll talk."
Not even bothering to change into something more presentable (or anything less ragged), Taylor slipped past the door and around James. She glanced back at him in silent waiting. She didn't have much faith in him (and anyone else) compared to before, when she acted like a gullible and naive idiot, but if he wanted to talk, then so be it.

Staring at Taylor's face for the period of time in whyich she thought, he almost thought she was going to deny his offer; he'd thought that he'd got it all figured out and what she wanted and how to get her out, so he wouldn't have been very happy if she had declined. But, just about as he would going to call it all off and take his offer back, she obliged and James found himself grinning and becoming more of his smug, usual self.
"Great." he drawled, the English teenager kicking a rock away with his foot before following after Taylor when she walked ahead and stuffing his hands inside his pockets. It was nice out today, but James wasn't really thinking about that. Instead, he was thinking about how he was going to start the conversation, seeing as he was never any good at that type of thing. Well, not any more anyway.
"Are you okay?" he finally inquired, the first thing he could think of. Wasn't that casual small talk or something?

TAYLOR BROOKS✰
Leave it to James to ask the most annoying question in Taylor's book. She didn't answer immediately, whiling away the time by redoing her very messy ponytail as she walked. She had no idea how to respond to him to be honest, and the scrunchie she held between her lips stopped her from saying anything without properly mulling it over first. With everything going on, she wouldn't put it past herself to start a fight within five minutes of being in the son of Ares' company.
Finally sure that most of her hair was tied up, with only a few stray strands down the sides of her face, Taylor sighed and spoke without facing him. "Well, I'm still alive for starters. That's something. Wouldn't call it 'okay' or 'fine', but it's better than being dead."
Slightly regretting the sarcastic edge her voice took, Taylor allowed a brittle smile to form on her lips. This being polite thing was slightly taxing considering that she was trying to make decent conversation with someone who she believed lied to her. "And you?"

James didn't know what he was meant to do, pushing bot of his hands inside his pockets and looking across at Taylor ever so often from beneath his tangle of brown hair. He didn't know whether he had said the right thing by asking her how she was, or something along those lines, although he was sure that it was a conversation starter. If someone had said that to him however, he would've either given them a dirty look or laughed in their face, but he had been stuck and searching for words so it was good enough.
Raising an eyebrow as he realised the sarcastic tone to her words, James tried not to raise his hands in a surrender motion, "Just asking." He rolled his eyes a little too defensively
