Okay, so, we're re-learning about WWI today in History class and we're learning about the soliders' lives in the war. They're facing some horrible things. I'll write down a passage from the paper I received.

All Quiet on the Western Front
by Erich Maria Remarque

"The first recruit seems actually to have gone insane. He butts his head against the wall like a goat. We try to-night to take him to the rear. Meanwhile we bind him, but in such a way that in case of attack he can be released at once...

The wire entanglements are torn to pieces. Yet they offer some obstacle. We see the storm-troops coming. Our artillery opens fire. Machine-guns rattle, rifles crack. The charge works its way across. Haie and Kropp begin with the hand-grenades. They throw as fast as they can, others pass them, the handles with the strings already pulled. Haie throws seventy-five yards, Kropp sixty, it has been measured, the distance is important. The enemy as they run cannot do much before they are within forty yards...

I see one of them, his face upturned, fall into a wire cradle [barbed wire]. His body collapses, his hands remain suspended as though he were praying. Then his body drops clean away and only his hands with the stumps of his arms, shot off, now hang in the wire.

...

We have become wild beasts. We do not fight, we defend ourselves against the annihilation. It is not against men that we fling our bombs, what do we know of men in this moment when Death is hunting us down now, for the first time in three days we can see his face, now for the first time in three days we can oppose him; we feel a mad anger. No longer do we lie helpless...

...the lines behind us stop. They can advance no father. The attack is crushed by our artillery. We watch. The fire lifts a hundred yards and we break forward. Beside me a Lance Corporal has his head torn off. He runs a few steps more while the blood spouts from his neck like a fountain.

...

Everywhere wire-cutters are snapping, planks are thrown across the entanglements, we jump through the narrow entrances into the trenches. Haie strikes his spade into the neck of a gigantic Frenchman and throws the first hand-grenade; we duck behind a breast-work for a few seconds, then the straight bit of trench ahead of us is empty. The next throw whizzles obliquely over the corner and clears a passage; as we run past we toss handfuls down into the dugouts, the earth shudders, it crashes, smokes, and groans; we stumble over slippery lumps of flesh, over yielding bodies; I fall into an open belly on which lies a clear, new officer's cap."

That wasn't the entire piece since it's like a four page packet, but that's enough to show you the Western front.

My plan is to create a character who was on the Western Front, but literally went insane after watching his friends blow up. He will have shot himself just to escape the main front. He'll be put in a mental asylum and sent home to his family in California where they are trying to live as normally as possible. One day they send him on vacation to the Lotus Casino in Las Vegas. He's trapped there until 2012, this year and he somehow escapes. He'll only be eighteen, too.

Yep, that's my plan. This kid will most likely have PTSD along with Night Terrors, and whatever else you could have gotten from going through traumatic incidents like WORLD WAR ONE. Currently, I can't think of any plots for him because of his past, other than RPs upon RPs of him sitting in the Basement, bound in a straight jacket, sitting and rocking back and forth, crying half of the time. But, I really don't want to RP that out. It'd probably just be flashbacks a lot.

Um, well, if you have any ideas and you'd like to RP with this type of character, let me know, yo. I haven't actually made the character. I won't start until later next week sometime near Christmas, but that's the plan.

I'm out.
