A Boy's Shopping Spree (Avawstar)

Magnus Starkweather strode into the armoury, clutching a double-bladed battle axe in one hand. The weapon had a shorter handle than most axes, allowing it to be wielded with one hand given that the user had sufficient strength to swing the heavy head. One blade had a sizeable chip taken out of it.
"I had an accident with this," Magnus told one of the Hephaestus dudes at the forge. "Appreciate it if you could fix it for me."
The guy grunted, took the axe, and got to the work. As he waited, Magnus was immediately drawn to the rows of weapons lining the walls, especially the more exotic stuff. He analyzed a spiked morning star, a huge buster blade and a variety of different polearms.

Angrily, Kyra entered the forge, trying not to punch something as she held the shattered blade in both her hands. Broken into three separate pieces was her favourite dagger, though it was more of a short sword. She had been practicing on the automated dummies, and struck one in the chest when the blade broke. Naturally, that dummy was ruined, and she had given up training to see to the repairs of the worn out blade.
"Hey, mind fixing this for me?" she asked through gritted teeth to the Hephaestus child, not really registering their face. As they took it gingerly without comment, she sighed, leaning against a wall and staring at the roof. She relaxed a bit, fiddling with a smaller dagger that she pulled from one of her hidden sheaths.
It was easy to see she didn't notice the Son of Zeus nearby, and simply twirled her dagger lazily.

Eyes scanning the area, Magnus soon took notice of Kyra. It immediately struck him how beautiful she was. The girl was tall, slender and athletic with light brown, shoulder-length hair. Her fringe, swept to the left, looked kind of cute in his opinion. So were the green eyes. Magnus had seen a good number of pretty girls, but this one took the prize, even though she was clearly upset.
Stop, stop, stop. Time out. Magnus, what the hell are you thinking? You're not a ladies man. You're not allowed to be a ladies man. Now get it together.
Still, there was no harm in trying to strike up a conversation, and Magnus did so quite naturally. "Hey. What'd you break?"

She gripped the dagger instinctively tighter, looking over to where the voice had come from. She stared for a couple of moments, mind blank before realizing he had spoken. And he struck her as someone who simply was 'built like a tank', as her Ma would have said.
"My dagger" she said simply, sighing. "Roughly the same as this" she added, draw her other long dagger to show him. "You?" she asked, letting her anger wash away with a distraction.

Magnus took a keychain from his pocket and willed it to expand into a clone of the axe he had sent in for repairs. "I got two of these. Broke one of 'em three nights ago while roaming the city looking for criminals. Accident."
And then he swore sharply under his breath, because his adventures as the vigilante Thunder Hawk were supposed to be secret. The only people who knew were Roxanne Michaels, his late cabin leader, and Julia Armstrong, a half-sister. He was also planning to tell Will Michaels, the current leader of Zeus cabin, but not some random girl in the armoury.
Oh my gods, man, what is wrong with you? You see a pretty face and lose control of yourself? Pathetic.

Kyra stared at him, then laughed. Apparently he wasn't supposed to announce his nighttime habits. "I see you've found a way to pass the time" she said, shaking her head.
"Don't worry man, your secret's safe with me" she said, still amused as she watched him. She took a moment to scan the axe.

"I hope to Zeus it is," Magnus muttered, glancing suspiciously around. Then he returned to his usual energetic self, and smiled, offering his hand. "Magnus Starkweather, aka Thunder Hawk," he introduced, lowering his voice for the last part.

Kyra grinned, taking his hand and giving it a firm shake. "Kyra Vael, aka Phoenix" she said, nodding to the secrecy of the second name he said. "And trust me man, I don't go around sharing secrets" she said with a serious look.
"So I'm guessing you're a son of Zeus?" she asked, noticing his 'prayer' to Zeus.

"You got that right," Magnus said, snapping his fingers and grinning as an electric spark sprung between them to prove his point. "Phoenix. That's a pretty sick nickname. Who's your god parent?"

Laughing, she shook her head. "Phoenix is 'cause of a tattoo. And its Ares" she responded, shrugging. "I'm just a fighter. Probably one of the reasons I was so upset at breaking my blade" she added thoughtfully.

"Well, if you're a little short on instruments of pain, you've come to the right place," Magnus said, gesturing to the racks of weapons. "Y'know, I've always wanted to try the halberd. And that buster sword looks like it can do some damage. What's your weapon of choice?"

"Daggers and fists" Phoenix said with a slight shrug. "I use speed and get as close as possible to the enemy. One, I'm good up close, and two, it makes them uncomfortable" she explained grinning, before she scanned the wall. "I use short swords sometimes too" she said absently as her eyes rested on one particularly fierce looking blade. "But they can get frustrating"

Magnus nodded, cracking his knuckles. "Fists are always nice. And you look fast. Unlike me." He grinned, taking the heavy halberd off the wall and only shrugging at it's weight. "I bet you can guess how I like to throw down."

Laughing a little, Phoenix shrugged her shoulders. "Easy to tell based on your build and weapon choice" she said with a grin. "Gotta be the melee strength kinda guy. If I'm wrong, well, I'd be very lost" she shrugged, still smiling.

"You got that right." Looking disappointed that he couldn't swing it around in the armoury, Magnus replaced the halberd on the wall and took the buster sword instead. A small, traitorous part of him kind of liked the fact that Phoenix kept smiling at him. The main part of him was shocked and annoyed that for once, a girl was taking up as much of his attention as weapons.
Deciding to continue the conversation lest he start appearing only awkward, Magnus spoke again. "Those if there's one thing I like more than beating things up, it's blowing things up. My mom's the Secretary of Defense, and she runs a PMC. I get lots of money and lots of guns."

She shook her head, shrugging her shoulders slightly as if to say 'what can you do?'
"Your mom ((It's weird spelling it that way, we spell it 'mum')) sounds like she'd get along with mine" Kyra grinned. "Adrenaline junkie" she said as an explanation. "Explosion give you a lot of adrenaline" she grinned again, scratching the back of her head absent mindedly.

Magnus nodded, handling the large buster sword with only one hand. "Ooh, I like that. What adventures has she taken you on? Bungee jumping, skydiving, paintball, off-roading?" Because he had done all of that and then some.

"Yup, plus anything and everything else considered dangerous or life threatening or stupid" Kyra said with a slightly nostalgic grin. "What about you?" she asked, turning her attention back to him. "Hows your mom with the adrenalin?"

Serious? Magnus was really starting to like this girl.
"She's mainly the militaristic type," he explained. "Guns, Humvees, choppers, jets, y'know. I've ridden in just as many military vehicles in my life as I have civilian ones. Whenever we fly around the countryside in a helicopter it has to be a Blackhawk or a Chinook. When I skydive, I use Army-issue parachutes and jump from tactical transport planes. And I have fired thousands of rounds from many types of guns. There was one time where Mom actually let me fire a 40mm anti-aircraft cannon. That was extremely sick."
