Making Opal a better person [Private Ninja]

"I love you too, Austin. But that's why we can't be together. I can't break your beautiful heart. Face it, it would kill both of us." She whispered softly, caressing the fading red mark on his face where she slapped him. She kisses his lips one last time, before turning around to walk away, speaking as she leaves. "I'm sorry Austin... At least you know that when we meet around Camp, we'll both be feeling the same pain inside."

"You don't have to stay the same Opal," I stated in a very clam voice. "You can change. There are other options." I start heading in the opposite direction. "Just something to think about. Cabin 2 if you need me." I wanted to cry, but not right here, not right now. I couldn't show weakness. I continue walking, feeling there would always be a missing part of me.

This could not get any worse. Not only had she made a big mistake, but Opal now had to see him every night at cabin 2. She groaned quietly to herself.
"Austin... I can't change. I've been like this for fifteen years. If you need me, or want to talk this through, I guess I'll be in Cabin 2 aswell." she informs him, standing still. She would let him walk away. It was best for both of them.

I stop in my tracks. I look over my shoulder. "Don't tell me you can't do it Opal. You've done the impossible. You've stolen my heart Opal. If you can do that, you can do anything" I continue on my path. I was going to see Opal again. No doubt about it.

"How could I have stolen your heart? If I had stolen your heart, you would be a hell lot more emotional." she called out to him, shaking her head. "You're making this much more awkward than it needs to be. So just walk away, and leave me alone to cry. Because I can tell that you need to get those tears out yourself."

A lump formed in my throat. "I try not to cry Opal. It shows weakness. I've fought tears too hard for too long." I close my eyes shut to keep from crying. "I can't cry now."

"That's your problem. You've never felt emotion before, and now you're so easily attachable that you don't know how to handle it. So my advice is that if you cry out all your tears now, whilst it's just you and me, and then you can go back to being all tough and stuff. It would be like this never happened. Trust me." she soothes Austin, even though he is a good ten meters away by now. She just hoped he would listen to her. She saw a lot of Marcel's personality in Austin, and knew (ish) how to handle these boys.

One tear slipped away, then another, and another. I've bottled up everything for years, just for this to happen. I knew if I ever cried the first tear, they would not stop raining down. I fall to my knees. The sand around me was speckled from my tears.

She saw him drop to his knees, torrents of tears falling down his cheeks. A pang of guilt flooded through Opal. She had brought this on. She ran over to the crying boy, pulling him onto her knee as she comforted him as he cried.
"It's going to be okay... You'll be fine soon." she said to him, hoping the words brought him some peace. "I'm sorry Austin... Maybe a relationship wouldn't be so bad..."

I bring in one gasp of air before I was finished crying. "Three things." I stand up and brush myself off in attempt to regain courage. "One. You're only saying that because you feel sorry for me. Two. I don't take anything out of petty. Three. It will be a good experience for me."

"So is that a yes?" she asks him, getting up from the floor and straigtening her dress out, patting the sand off it. This whole situation was confusing her. Where they going out? Were they not? Who knew. Because she didn't.

"Only if you want it to be." I look at her straight in the eyes. "If you don't want to Opal, it will be a good experience for me. If you do, I'm all for it."

"I do, Austin. Of course I do." she begs, eyes pleading for a chance to love him. "But if we do go out, then I'm sorry, but there will be a time when things take a turn for the worse, and I'll slip up. But you've got to understand that." she tells him the truth, hoping he would understand. There was no doubt that she would break his heart again and again, but she would do it kindly, and in style.

"No one's perfect. I'm sure I'll make mistakes too." I smile. "So... I'll see you tonight I guess."

"Maybe not tonight. I have to get used to the idea of having a boyfriend." she giggled, winking at Austin. "Well, I've got to take off now. I need to go... somwhere. Somewhere else. See you tommorow, Austin." she walks out of the beach, regretting everything that she had done today. How could she have a boyfriend? It just wasn't right for her. Which is why she was giving herself regret time, before the truth sank in.
