Making Opal a better person [Private Ninja]

"of course I'm coming in." her voice chimed as she waded into the sea to join him. Her blonde hair grew darker and darker as it became dampened by the waves, until she was finally in deep enough for her feet to lift off the ground. She sculled on the same spot for a while, waiting for Austin to say something.

"So..." I was at a lost. I had no clue what to say or do. I swam over to Opal, just looking for something to do. We were probably about a foot away before I stopped. "Technically, this is swimming."

"You might get crushes on the hot guy..."

"Yeah, it is... Want to go further out?" she asks him, swimming into deeper waters. She knew that this sea was safe, and the only thing that could harm her was the other people there. She kept on swimming, only stopping when she could barely see the beach anymore. "Come on!" She shouts to Austin, waiting for him to follow her.

"but I get the hot guy to crush on me."

"I'm comin'!" I followed her to the exact spot. We were a was from shore. If anyone was to see us, they'd have to look closely. "So, now what?"

"You might get crushes on the hot guy..."

"I can think of one thing..." She whispered to him, leaning closer to him in the water. She had had enough of waiting now. She was taking things into her own hands. And then, she kissed him swiftly on the lips, breaking it off before he had time to react.

I was shocked for a minute, then I realized how good that felt. "What? That's it?" I smile and move in closer to kiss her.

Austin is the one who kisses her this time, and Opal can't contain her smile. Finally. I almost have what I need. I swear, he'll be wrapped around my finger as soon as you can say `paris` she thought to herself as they broke apart.
"How about a third one for good luck?" She whispered into his ear, kissing him again, refusing to let go.

"And maybe a fourth for good measures." I lean in and kiss her again. This was a perfect day. Maybe me losing the monster wasn't such a bad thing after all. I would eventually get that monster and many others; A girl like this was a once in a life time chance. I couldn't let that slip away.

"How about we stop counting and carry on kissing?" she purred into his ear, kissing him for a fourth, fifth, sixth time. There was a chance that he would fall for her, become besotted with her, and want to see her on a permanant basis, but the liklihood of her actually asking him out were slim. Opal would never be a one-man girl. There were too many fish in the sea.

After about twenty kisses, I got a bit bored. I back away. "Okay, okay, I think that's enough." I sigh and look out at the shore. "Wanna go back now?"

"You might get crushes on the hot guy..."

"Sure. Let's go back to the beach." She said, starting to swim back. She had gotten what she wanted anyway. No need to hang around. she reached the beach in no time, and after pulling her dress back on, simply says to Austin, "Well, this has been fun, we should do it again some time!" Everyone knew that in date-speak, that meant `I'm never going to see you again.`

"I hope so. I really do." I finish re-tying my sneakers. "You're a really good friend Opal, But I sort-of want to be more than friends. What do ya say?"

"We'll see... I can't make any commitments just yet." she tells him, trying to let him down easily. She just didn't want to hasstle herself with a relationship at this moment in time, especially when she wasn't exactly a one-man girl.

"Alright, so let me get this straight. We just had a make-out session,and you're telling me you don't want to date me?" I smile at her. "What's going on?"

"What's going on? Why, Austin, you have just been used. That's right. I used you, simple as. All I wanted was a quick fix of romance, not a long-term thing." she snaps at him, getting slightly annoyed. "Besides, if we did date, I wouldn't stay faithful to you. I can't only date one boy. It's just not in my nature." She flicks her blonde hair over her shoulder, and walks away, though a small part of her was hoping that he would follow her and talk things through. Austin was a nice boy. She just didn't want to break his heart.

"Wait! What?" She was already several meters ahead of me. I break into a run. "You've got issues. You know that?"

"I don't have issues!" she screamed at him. She was sick of being told she had issues. That was what all the people used to say to her back home in Paris. Well, that and `Oh my lord, what a slut.` "I'm a child of Eros! Of course I'm more... active than other girls." she was almost crying now, andcould think of nothing else to say. So she slapped him rather hard across the cheek.

I stumble backwards. I probably deserved that, but it didn't change the fact that I was ticked about it. "um, OW! WHAT THE HADES WAS THAT FOR!?!?!?!?"

"FOR SAYING I HAVE ISSUES!" she screamed back at him, eyes blazing with anger. When she had calmed down, she would apologize to him, but she didn't see that happening for a while. If only she could slap him again. But she didn't. Once was enough.

I approach her again. If she was going to smack me again, it might as well hurt. This was going to be a bumpy road. If Opal had been anyone else, I would've smacked them right back. But Opal was Opal, and I wasn't going to smack her.

Take a deep breath... Now count to ten... She closed her eyes for a moment to try and get rid of the red haze that lay infront of her vision. When they re-opened, the world was back to it's calm state.
"Ohmygod, I'm so sorry." she rushed, biting her lip. She had mixed feelings towards this boy. Half of her wanted to accept his offer of a relationship, so they could be a normal couple. But the other half of her - the Rena side - knew that it would never work out. He was too nice. Too innocent. "Look, Austin..." she sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder, afraid he would shrug off her touch. "I really like you. It's just.. I don't want to hurt you."

I smiled. "A little too late for that." I pause for a moment. "I'm sorry Opal. I should've chose my words more carefully."

"No, Austin, this is all my fault. I mean I should have never led you along. You deserve a better girl than me." she turns on the doe eyes, making her look so very sorry indeed. "I'm just going to be all regretful now. You're a really nice boy, and I hope you meet someone a lot better at all this gushy stuff than me." she hugs him, then turns away, sniffing quietly (though loud enough to hear) as a tear ran down her cheek. She didn't usually allow herself to get attached to her play things, but this time she had made an error.

I watch as Opal walks away. "What if I don't want someone better? What if I want you?" Hopefully that would be enough to keep her around.

"You might want me. I want you too. But it just wouldn't work." she tried to explain, an unusual aching filling her chest. Well, that had never happened before. She usually broke off with boys too easily. Sometimes she wished for an emotion like this. She wanted him to try and prove to her why she should stay with him, but it didn't look likely. She tried to swallow the lump in her throat, before it dissolved into tears. "Why do you have to do this, Austin? Why are you the one I like?"
