Relaxation at its finest! (Kayspygirl)

Kadence sighed gently tipping her head back in satisfaction at the sun beating down onto her chest. The summer sun was warm against her skin and she hoped all of her tanning would pay off, she was sick of having the pastiest skin in all of Hermes Cabin. "This really is the life...I could sit out here all day." Her blonde hair was shining in the light the curly tangle it usually was was gone after a nice dip in the lake earlier, you could still see beads of water not yet dry from the sun. She was so happy she finally had a day to relax after all the weapons training she had been doing lately and welcomed the relaxation of sitting on a blanket in the grass next to the lake.

As a new camper, Val had a lot to learn. As someone who rubbed people the wrong way, he was often given extra work to do which Val entirely disagreed with. He did have a whole 'bad boy' thing about him and he constantly flirted with people otherwise and he generally didn't approve of having to do anything but still, he wanted a break. This was why he was at running at the lake in nothing but basketball shorts and jumped in the water with an excited whoop.

Kadence gasped softly as water poured down over her warm body. "GODS!" she cried out her body soaked in cold water again. she searched for a source and found only one person near her. A boy, she noted mentally her body shaking with rage. "Hey! Watch where you're going! Now I'm all wet again." Kadence pouted softly brushing her blonde hair over her shoulder it was damp again. "What's your name? I would quite like to know the name of the person I'm going to have to drown." She said light heartedly a small mischievous grin on her face she she sat on the ground putting her feet in the water.

Val spun around, giving her a bright mischievous smile. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there! Your beauty must have blinded me as I ran up! The name's Val. What may I call you?" he asked in a relaxed tone. This girl didn't seem like she would be a bad sport and took a liking to her. He was good at figuring out what sort of person someone was, and though he rarely trusted people, he could tell this person was someone he could at least get along with, as long was they didn't get close.

Kadence laughed softly. "you must be from Aphrodite cabin! Kadence daughter of Hermes. You know flirting gets you nowhere around here Val, some people would likely punch you in the face for saying something like that to them.." She trailed off grinning at him."especially the Ares girls..." she whispered so only he could hear bursting into a giggle. He seemed like a good kid,she summerized to herself. Somebody who just needed some guidance , he seemed fairly new to camp."so Val how longbottom have you been at camp?" she asked lightly smiling as she splashed him with her feet grinning.

He smiled up at her and splashed her a bit in response, just was close so she wouldn't get too wet. "Pff, not very long. A few weeks maybe?" Val replied as he treaded water. "And I learned very quickly that I have a very punchable face."

Kadence couldn't help but laugh loudly. [color=lightcoral]"oh you poor boy...I feel for you, I really do... As a child of Hermes I get my fair share of punches, mostly just swings though..." She couldn't help but giggle again the poor kid had already been punched a fair few times. " you just need to maybe not flirt as a first response a good hello I'm Val does wonders around here, me personally I like to do none of it and just keep to myself but that's just because I have a nice circle of friends." she smiled gently, he seemed to be a good friend too maybe she would I trust him into her circle.

Val responded with a groan and dove under the water. He came back up and ran a hand through his hair. "I can't help it. I open my mouth and flirting comes out and I hate it," the son of Aphrodite replied. It had become a habit of his a few years ago when he'd found that it gave him positive attention instead of the negative he was used to. He'd never really gotten enough attention from his foster parents and he was used to doing whatever it took to get it. Now that he was older, he realized he was problematic and wanted to change, but has been having a hard time.

She smiled gently her blonde hair swaying in the light breeze. "yeah I get that, you just need to practice...you seem to be doing fine with me." she said grinning lightly knowing t was because she wasn't being ridiculous when he had started conversation. "there's no need to hate something you can't control, it's a defence mechanism, mine is dark humour...I like to make jokes even if it's not a good time and at my own expense usually." It was true she used humour at the worst possible times she had done so at multiple deaths and when old boyfriends broke up with her and she even used humour as a way to make conversation and sometimes it was greeted with disdain, she hated it but she didn't care, it was a quirk she had and it made her who she was but she knew most of the time when to use it.

"Well it's a terrible defence mechanism and it makes me seem like the worst kind of guy," Val replied, frustrated. He started floating on his back, looking up at the sky. This chick wasn't saying anything he hadn't come to the conclusion of before, but she seemed pretty nice so he was refraining from trying to push her away like he did everybody else.

Kadence grinned softly she knew this wasn't the first time he had heard something like that."I know its a crappy defense mechanism mine isn't much better, let me tell you I've lived at this camp for 9 years...that's right I was 9 when I came here and my life before here was horrible,I was 4 when I started taking care of my sister just a baby at the time and hell I wasn't much older than a baby myself but my mother was a deadbeat alcoholic and we were lucky she could keep a job. I left when my sister was attacked by a hellhound meant for me and my mom got herself into shape real quick after I left..." She paused remembering how horrible the journey here was and leaving Coralie wasn't much better. "You can imagine how humour at the worst possible time can be when you come to camp fresh after the war, the Hermes kids used to badger me the worst believe it or not, but over time I learned how to keep a conversation without sounding like an idiot and getting beat around by the other campers and you to will learn how to get over this part...it just takes some time!" Kadence brightened up and slipped into the lake letting the cool water wash over her warm skin a smile lighting her face. "So you know more than most people know about me! What about you? Where are you from?" She asked treading water lightly her blonde hair now soaked again at the tips.

Val scoffed and treaded water a bit away from her. "Alllll over the place," he replied dismissively. He didn't really share stuff about himself most of the time. He didn't let people in. He couldn't trust anyone ever. Val couldn't risk it. It was too dangerous. When you've never had anyone, the thought of having someone else who could leave you was worse than the fear of being alone.

Kadence smiled softly. "Cool, I'm from Arizona... Hotter than the underworld but the people are usually friendly...I was one of those people that only had like three friends all through elementary school but Cora she has tons of friends, she's in middle school now I think. She paused looking at him for comfirmation. "She's 12, is that middle school? I wouldn't know I didn't go to a school after I came here...was just schooled right from here by the Athena campers." She shrugged lightly grinning and splashing him gently with some water swimming away from him slightly but looking back at him still interested in their conversation.

"Twelve is sixth grade and in most schools that's still elementary but it's different from school to school," Val explained, sinking down for a moment before going back up so that his hair would cool down. That was the problem with dark hair. I mean, he was hot, but he didn't need hair that could burn something. He loved his hair though. It was pretty and long and he could do whatever he wanted with it.

Kadence nodded in thought. "Yeah I guess your right...so you were in high school?" She asked gently not trying to pry, this school thing really did bother her and most of her friends hadn't made it made grade four before coming here, Leeland, one of her best friends had only been 5 when she had arrived. "Sorry to sound like a walking question mark... I was only 9...we don't get as much outside time as I would like..." She trailed off, even at 18 her city trips were limited so she relied heavily on what the new Hermes campers had to say as well as any other campers her and Leah could coax information out of.

"Yep, a sophomore, and I'm glad I'm going to be here from now on. Seriously, the real world sucks. Stick to this place," he replied, swimming on his back again. He felt like he had a pretty good sense of the real world and knew he hated just about everything about it. The real world sucked. It was absolutely awful. At least with demigods, you knew you wouldn't be forced to move from place to place, and that you, theoretically, belonged somewhere.

She laughed lightly. "yeah I'm sure it does, I guess it depends on each persons experiences...I agree with you the real world does suck...I hated how my life was and I was teased a lot in school for being different...my sisters live is way better than mine,thanks to me of course but still....my friend Nevada had the perfect live before coming here too...but some of us didn't my friend Leeland was only 5 when she came here...spent her whole life here and doesn't know anything but here..it's awful really." she sighed gently letting herself float on her back for a little bit. "the water is so nice today, I love it out here...it's always so calming and usually nice and quiet. I'm quite the loner really...I'm always contradicting myself...I love to be happy and cheerful but I spend most of the time brooding, it's ridiculous.." she looked over at him swimming on his back a small grin on her face.

"I feel you. I mean, I don't brood, but I spend a lot of time alone even though I like people, I suck at talking with them, you know? I hate people, but I like having them around. It's frustrating," Val agreed, swimming on his back thoughtfully. He sucked at communicating, but sucked even more at staying close to people. Part of him wanted to have more friends, part of him wanted to stay as far away from them as he could get.
