Finnegan has spent the past couple of weeks planning what he likes to call the best Valentine's day ever behind Toby's back. He's had a few close calls but he's almost positive that Toby has no idea what they will be doing, but he hopes that Toby has caught on to him planning something. The last thing that he wants is for Toby to think that he forgot again. After what had happened last year, Finn vowed that he would never let it happen again.
He started his planning on February first, because everything has to be absolutely perfect especially after what Toby did for their anniversary. Although he's still extremely nervous that it won't compare. Because honestly nothing really beats a private after hours tour of the American Museum of Natural History, but hopefully this is a very close second. He's decided to try branching out and trying something new for the both of them, but something that he hopes can still be fun. He'd done some research and realized that it might be fun to go to a New York Rangers game. He's not a huge hockey fan by any means but the sport is fairly entertaining.
And after deciding on going to the hockey game, Finnegan realized that it shouldn't be the only thing that they do that day. So once again he poured over endless lists of things to do in the city, looking for something that Toby would enjoy. Of course the zoo is out, but there's still plenty of possibilities. At one point he debated a self tour of famous locations in movies, but he realized that he has seen none of the movies listed so of course that's out. But finally he decided that instead of picking things to do, he'll make a list and let Toby decide. That way both of them will be contributing.
But to top off what he has now deemed as a perfect date, Finnegan bought Toby a valentine. It's nothing special by any means, more funny really. He'd figured he'd get one seeing as it is Valentine's day. But for good measure he stuck the tickets inside of it, so Toby would see. He just hopes that Toby likes it, because otherwise it would be a bit upsetting to have gone to all the trouble for Toby to hate it. But who is he kidding, Toby will love it!
The card is the final touch, and Finnegan is honestly quite relieved that he's done with the planning. It's February twelve, and he still has a day to relax before Valentine's day. It's perfect. Smiling lightly to himself he stands up from his desk and heads off to the bathroom to get ready for bed. But of course since he's finished planning and everything instead of going to bed Finnegan decides that he's going to sit down a read a book something he hasn't done for a while.
Thirty minutes later, Finnegan is completely engrossed in his tattered copy of The Lord of the Rings. As he continues to read, he becomes more and more oblivious to the time and before he knows it, he's falling asleep while reading. But he continues reading until he eventually falls asleep slumped over his book, a bit of drool trickling down the corner of his mouth.

Son of Hecate
Valentine's day was fast approaching, and had constantly been in the back of Toby's mind. He remembered the last Valentine's day they'd had together. They'd been a couple for two months or so, and then Finnegan just completely forgot about the important couple holiday. This year, it made Toby nervous to think about what it could mean if Finn forgot again. Did it mean that he didn't value their relationship enough to remember the simple holiday? It was on the same day every year, after all. Toby tried not to think into it too much, but it was near impossible to push away completely. He also knew that he had used up basically all of his resources putting together their anniversary date, and therefore had no plan for Valentine's. Assuming Finn didn't, either, Tobias would have to merely resort to a simple and calm approach.
"He'll love them," Toby assured her, a small smile on his face as his eyes looked at the beautiful multicolored arrangement of flowers in his hands. Then, he raised his sight to the girl who had given it to him. It was a small girl with dark brunette hair, approximately twelve years of age. He had requested a Demeter camper to create a floral arrangement for him to give to Finn, and they put the little girl on the job right away, promising that she had the perfect eye for floral design. They hadn't lied. "Thank you very much," he said, graciously. The girl assured him it was no big deal, and then went skipping back inside her cabin whose walls breathed life into the plants which crawled up its walls.
Quickly, Toby bustled over to the Athena cabin. It was like a second home to him, and it was instinctive by now to walk in without knocking and awaiting assistance. He knew basically all the rooms in the cabin, most importantly the foyer and Finn's bunk. Holding the flowers tightly, he began his search for Finnegan. He found him not in the living room, and continued to the boy's room. He walked in, half-expecting to find the boy combing his hair or getting on some clothes. Instead, he found him asleep with his head tilted backwards and his mouth gaping open. His body was slumped backwards in a wooden chair, and an open book lay at his feet haphazardly as if it had slipped from his lap. Toby watched the boy in disbelief for a few seconds. Was it true that he had really forgotten the date, again? As cute as Finn looked at the moment, Toby was upset.
Resting the flowers on the nightstand beside Finnegan's bed, Tobias moved over to the boy in the chair and knelt down, picking up the book, reading the title. Hadn't he caught Finn doing the exact same thing last Valentine's day? Sleeping with some books? Toby tossed the book carelessly onto the bed, watching it bounce slightly before coming to a rest. He wasn't sure how to wake Finn at this point. In fact, he was a little bit tempted to leave and see if he woke up and came searching for him. As Toby could recall, last year he woke Finn gently on Valentine's day with a small nudge. This time would be a little bit different. First, he took Finn's face gently in both hands and planted a delicate kiss to his forehead, soft enough as to not wake the boy. Then, he moved to the back of Finn's chair, grabbed the two sides of it, and dumped the boy forward.

Finnegan is sitting in The Green Draon, getting a drink with a few of his friends when he is suddenly woken up as he lands on the floor. In the impact is somewhat painful and lays there with his eyes closed for a few minutes. However after a while he slowly sits up and rubs the side of his head as he looks around. That's when he notices the feet raising an eyebrow he tilts his head back as he looks at his visitor. A wide smile spreads across his face as he notices that it's Toby. This smile slowly fades when he notices Toby's hands on the back of the chair. Had Toby dumped him out of the chair? Why would he do that?
Knitting his eyebrows together in confusion, Finnegan slowly stands up as he looks at Toby. He's confused by the expression on his face, he seems annoyed. And Finnegan is not sure why. It's not like he did anything. Did he? And he can't remember doing anything. Maybe Toby's annoyed that he's been blowing him off to plain their date. But honestly when he sees their date, he shouldn't be mad.
Shaking his head, Finnegan takes a step forward to plant a kiss on Toby's cheek. He then takes a step back, shoving his hands into the pockets of his plaid pajama pants. "Hey babe"he says quietly, a small grin spreading across his face. He's a bit cautious because he's still pretty sure that Toby seems mad, but he's still not sure why. Blinking he glances at the alarm clock, eight o'five. Hm that's early, usually Toby let's him sleep in for a bit.
Once more knitting his eyebrows together, Finnegan turns to look at Toby. "Did I do something wrong?"he asks his eyes wide as he watches Toby. He's honestly so confused right now, and hopefully Toby is willing to provide some detail. He just hopes that Toby isn't here because of something Oliver did, that would put a damper on things. Sighing he looks around the room, not wanting to make eye contact with Toby.
That's when his eyes land on the beautiful bouquet of flowers. Wait flowers? Flowers? Why would Toby have gotten him flowers? It's only the thirteenth. Unless. Oh no. His eyes wide Finnegan suddenly looks back at Toby, "Toby-"he says quietly, his voice cracking. He then shuts his mouth as he's unable to say anything else. He did it again, he freaking did it again. But wait, the tickets are for the fourteenth so they can use those. But instead of saying anything else, he waits for Toby to speak.

Son of Hecate
When he saw Finn awake in a panicked confusion, he felt a little bit bad. He hoped that he hadn't hurt the boy too much. It was just supposed to be a shocking awakening, not a violent act. When Finn stood, Toby moved around the chair and stood in front of the tall boy with his arms crossed. The kiss on the cheek was the typical greeting that Finn always seemed to use. He didn't return the favor, nor the greeting. He merely stood as more of a presence than a boyfriend. He waited until Finn asked what was wrong, but rather than answering the question, he allowed the silence between them to stir. When Finn saw the flowers on the bed, a look of confusion and then sudden realization swept over his face. Finally he realized what was wrong. Was it really such an easy feat to forget Valentine's?
"It's Valentine's day," he stated bluntly. As he looked at Finn, there was disappointment in his eyes. But, more than anything, there was a sadness. He felt like Finnegan should have remembered, and it upset him greatly that he didn't. Unable to stay very angry, he dropped his crossed arms and let them hang by his sides in dejection. "I thought you would have remembered by now," he said quietly. Shaking his head, he walked over to the bed and picked up the flowers that he had gotten. They really were beautiful, and gave off a subtly sweet scent. He carried them over to Finn and offered them out. "Well, these are for you babe, anyway."
Tobias was really regretting not planning anything. He subconsciously was expecting Finn to have planned something. But now they would have to do something last-minute. At this point, Toby's mind began to slowly make its way towards the insecure thoughts that so often haunted him. For example, on of the thoughts that shot into his mind first was 'Did Finn actually forget Valentine's day? Or did he not do anything on purpose?' And then there was the insecure possible answer to that one that whispered 'Maybe he meant to break up.' But then, why would he kiss Toby on the cheek? That certainly wasn't a typical thing to do when you wanted to break up with someone. Still, he shifted in place uneasily as his mind came up with diabolical thoughts about how all of this could be his fault, and he began to beat himself up inside.

Finnegan bites his lip as he watches Toby. No it can't be. There has to be a mistake, it's the thirteenth. He didn't forget, it's the thirteenth. But Toby doesn't get mixed up on dates. His eyes wide he looks at Toby and opens his mouth to speak, "I-i thought it was the thirteenth"he sputters as he stares at Toby. Oh gods, he forgot again. It was bad enough that he forgot last year and now he's done it again. He's such an idiot.
He remains silent as he slowly takes the flowers and lets his hand drop by his side. He is extremely ashamed of himself right now and he's honestly fighting the urge to cry. He knows that if he cries Toby will comfort him and he doesn't deserve it. Honestly he doesn't deserve Toby, he's so amazing and dedicated and all Finn does is cause problems. Letting out a small sigh he slowly looks up at Toby and studies him.
He looks dissappointed which can only be expected of him. But the look is almost painful, Finn hates knowing that Toby is upset with him. Why can't he just be a better boyfriend? But then a lightbulb goes off in his head as he slowly realizes something. He may have gotten the date mixed up, but he definitely got tickets for the fourteenth. It's not ruined after all! They can still go! They can still go! His eyes wide Finnegan turns around and practically runs to his desk. Setting the flowers down he begins to search through his drawers looking for the red envelope.
After a few minutes of frantic searching he finally grabs it and holding it to his chest he turns around and walks back to Toby. Smilingly nervously he holds out the envelope. "Open this"he says quietly as he waits for Toby to take the envelope. He then takes a step back and watches as Toby opens it. There's a nervous smile on his face. Hopefully Toby won't be mad, seeing as they do in fact have plans. Although he does have every right to be mad because Finn got confused on what day it is. He really needs a calendar. "So?"he asks quietly as he gazes at Toby, waiting for the boy to say something. This does sort of make up for it? Although Toby could hate hockey and then he'd be back in the category of shitty boyfriend.

Son of Hecate
Toby watched Finn take the flowers and then let them fall to his side with his hands, somewhat unappreciative, which made Toby's face flush a bit more of a defined pink color. He felt bad that his flowers didn't mean much to the boy, regretting the fact that he had decided not to get a bigger present. Toby recalled the gift that Finn had given him for their anniversary. It was simple, just a picture of the two of them, set in a nice frame, but it meant so much to Toby. He put it right next to his bed, and every time he looked at it he was overwhelmed with the most indescribable feeling for Finn, a feeling fit so simply into a small word like love. There wasn't really a present that he could think of that could top that one, but now he wished he'd gone with something a little better than flowers.
When Finnegan began to move around, Toby became a little bit concerned. What was he doing? Did he forget something else? He leaned to the side to try to see around the boy and see what he was doing, but he didn't really know. Finally, Finn turned and Toby saw in his hand a white envelope. Confused and a little bit surprised. When he was directed to open it, his mind immediately began to jump. Was this Finn's Valentine's gift? It was possible that, though he thought it was the thirteenth, he could have gotten something before. Toby's fingers worked the paper, prying open the envelope. He glanced inside at the contents, and moved a couple of things up with his thumb. Seeing what they were, his eyebrows flew up, and his head raised slowly to look at Finn.
"You got us Rangers tickets??" Toby gawked. He loved Hockey. It wasn't one of America's biggest sports, but growing up somewhere as close to Canada as New York and living in a climate that made Hockey an accessible sport drew him to it. He'd never played, but he loved watching it be played. How Finn knew, he had no idea. He never recalled ever telling the boy that he liked hockey, or even mentioning it. He looked back down at the tickets. Valentine's day. They could still go.
Toby jumped forward and flung his arms around Finnegan, pulling him into a tight hug. "Thank you so much!" he said, excitedly. Finn definitely pulled through this time. His mistake proved to be nothing because of his advanced planning, which was an attribute that Toby wasn't sure Finn possessed. He was so wrong, but it was a good surprise.
