Few times in life were ever still. You always grew or changed , New experience s would become engraved in your life story. Friends would rotate in and out of your life, sometimes a special on would hitch and be stick by. It was always worth going to sleep at night just to see what would you wouldwake to the next day.

But when in the camp it seemed that maybe her life had entered a stalemate. Life continued to happen, yes, but it wasn't effecting her enough to scar memories into her tree of life. Reaching legal age in a few months she could only wish she knew what to do. In the safety of camp fall meant training and classes, summer meant more training and avoiding temps. The only difference between her now and 3 years ago would be less responsibility, but somehow more pressure. Thoughts of the near future terrified Colby as much if not more then the dangers that would lurk out side those walls.

All her life she thought herself the most independent of her group of friends. She would refuse to be coddled when she was upset, or to love to expessingly because she didn't need it. That's what the girl always told herself. But now everyone was gone, and she wasn't prepared for the loneliness it came with.

Colby had always prepared to be alone, as she was now sitting in the low branches of an gum tree. Lost in her thoughts as she numbly plucked spikey gumballs from the tree and hurled them into the tall grass the grew up between the rows of berries.

Thomas walked in to the area. He really was just bored at the moment. He was wearing his trademark outfit: blue jeans, a blue denim jacket, a brown leather belt, worn with use, a pair of worn leather boots, also brown. His boots were so worn, the heels were actually gone. Under his belt on his right side was Pinger, his ping pong paddle, and in his hand was a large sword, about the size of a claymore, that he was never seen without, which he had named Gurthkir, which translated from the Elventongue to mean Deathcleaver.

Colby had barely noticed the hour passing as she thought to herself. In fact it wasn't until she noticed the crunching of dirt and grass which told her someone was passing underneath. Confident that her spot among the leafy braches gave her optimal coverage, Colby aimed the prickly gumball at the new comers back. Of course her view of him wasn't much to go by, she couldn't see most of the guy, only the bottom of very ragged boots and a strip of his back. Maybe 4 yards off.

It wouldn't harm him, nor was that her intention. The action was just habitual. Most people who came under the same fire would blame their luck and move out from under the tree. Colby appreciated being left alone with such a good shade tree. That and the long summer days put her I'm a crabby and exhausted mood. Much like dark winter days treated most everyoneelse. The long haired girl really couldn't see the appeal.

Thomas tensed. Something was watching him. His instincts never lied. He had been a hunted demigod on the roads too long to ignore such impulses. He slowed down to a stop, an ear underneath his shaggy mane of hair perking so he could better hear. What was going- His right hand flashed to his hip and drew, like a gunslinger of old, his paddle, deflecting the object away before it struck his back. His sword was already raised in his left hand, obviously ready to strike. In spite of the obvious weight of the weapon, the demigod seemed to carry it with no apparent difficulty, thanks to much training with it, most of it amassed on the run, giving him a natural affinity with the weapon.

Holstering his ping pong paddle underneath his belt, Thomas turned, his orange camp tee shirt visible underneath his unbuttoned jacket. He gripped the weapon with both hands. The handle of the blade could have easily had four of his hands on it, but he only had two to use, so he used the extra length to serve as a counterweight to help him swing the sword faster. The sword itself was as long as he was tall, about six feet. He looked down, seeing the object thrown as his mind went into overdrive, calculating where it could have came from. He looked into the tree leaves. He didn't see anything, but he knew something was there. "Come out," he said. "I may be willing to listen."

Colby could tell as soon has he drew his sword. The sudden, most unnatrual silence and the tension she could practically feel rolling off the stranger were hard to miss to her well trained eyes. He must of been a newer camper, the ones more familar with the outside world were always the quickest to draw a weapon. Not that she had lost her edge, she just wasn't as easily triggered.

Because she didn't feel very threatened by the situation she moved to lie on flat on the branch so she could look down. Colby used her legs to straddle the tree as she broke off leafy twigs, exposing her pale face to the stranger for the frist time. She waved her fingers in a lazy greeting. "I'd like to know where you've been, that nearly getting pegged is an invitation to talk." Colby had her hair pulled half up in a messy bun. Black trendils of hair fell past her face and dark green eyes were indifferent if not coy. Twirling a finger at the new found stranger she continue. "Nice sword, but probably shouldn't wave it around to much, someone might think your overcompansating."

Thomas managed a short laugh at the compensating joke. "Believe me, if I had a choice, my first lethal kind of weapon would have been lighter. However, when you're playing a game of ping pong and a monster attacks, you use whats available. This," he hefted the blade, "I stole from the monster who attacked me. My weapon then was just this ping pong paddle. After that, I was kind of on the run for a few months before I stumbled here. As you can imagine, this gave me both no time to find a more suitable weapon, but plenty of time to make this one suitable. Well, more usable, in any case. Necessity gave me this blade, not choice. But I've had plenty of times where I was glad for the reach..."

He fell silent. Some people didn't appreciate when you just handed out their life story. He knew this. Some people would outright attack him for it. As though his life didn't have enough troubles. "So. Who are you. Why are you in that tree. And what desired you to strike at me anyways?"

Raising a sleek eyebrow and the guys monolouge she quickly considered what she would say in response. "Wow you're a talker" she let her lips slip up into a teasing grin once again, "Let me guess, umm.. libra?" She was quick to guess at the boys zodiac sign. Something in which she had recently found intrest in with recent astrology classes.

With a dismissive hand shake the girl answered simply. "How are you going to give me the history of your sword and not a name, then demand mine?" Rolling her eyes and looking away in mock offense, "Where are you're manners?" She plucked another gumball and just flicked it at the guy with all the agression of a tired kitten. "What desired you to walk under my tree?"

Thomas hoped he didn't come off the wrong way. He merely intended to make conversation. She called him a talker, and asked if he was a Libra. "No. Aries." he said simply, and then apologized. "Sorry. I forgot to say my name, didn't I? It's Thomas. Son of Hermes."

She chucked a small object at him, and the demigod batted it away. I would prefer if she didn't chuck things at me. I suspect I still have some unresolved trauma. When she asked what he was doing under her tree, he couldn't help but loose a small, short laugh. "I am sorry. I wasn't aware that it belonged to anyone at all. I suppose that rock over there is yours too?"
