swim or sink

Evan stood at the edge of the lake, pondering her choices. She wanted to swim. It had been too long since she had been able to enjoy one of her favorite pass times. There were others in the lake, so it was probably safe. But they all knew how to defend themselves if there was something in there that could attack. There were monsters at the beach after all - that's what the satyr had said - hence why she had come here. But the water was so murky that gods knew what was in there! Why couldn't they just build a pool? One without any infestations. No, that would be much too easy, wouldn't it.
Maybe it wouldn't hurt to just put her feet in though. Yes, if anything happened she could remove her feet quite quickly. Deciding that was the safest bet, Evan crouched down and untied her shoes and set them off to the side before sitting down on the edge and slipping her feet into the murky depth. The water was warmer than at home. Not quite as refreshing, but better than nothing.

Dalton was walking along the beach, when he saw a girl standing on the shore like she wasn't sure if she wanted to go in.
He decided that he was going to go say hi, so he started walking over to her.
When he got there, he stoped right beside her, and said, "Hi!"
He wasn't thinking of what she might do, so he just went right on talking. "My name is Dalton. What's yours?" he said.

Out of the corner of her eye, Evan saw a boy approach her and she stood quickly. "Hello, I'm Evan. Nice to meet you," she said offering her hand for him to shake.
The boy seemed nice. He looked friendly, at least. Hopefully not very judgmental as she certainly was not dressed to meet new people in her exercise clothes. Most of the boys here - aside from the sons of Aphrodite - didn't seem to concerned with clothing though, so her worries were probably for nothing.

Dalton took her hand and shook it. He looked at her clothes and laughed.
"Hahaha! You weren't expecting to meet any one, were you?"
He smiled. He wasn't exactly dressed to impress ether.

Evan bit her lip and shook her head, dropping her hand to her side after shaking his. "Not exactly. I just came to swim," Evan replied, before looking over his outfit, "You don't really look dressed to impress either!" Her tone was light to give him the impression that she was comfortable talking to him. Secretly, she wanted to run back to her cabin and hide there until he forgot about meeting her all together. Evan was kicking herself for walking out of her cabin dressed in such a state.

Dalton looked down and smiled again. "Hahaha! You're right! I'm not!" he said.
He liked Evan. She was funny and it seemed like she didn't care about who her godly parent was.
That was cool. "Hey, you want to go for a swim? Don't worry, I'll protect you." he said, smiling.

The smile couldn't be helped from her face even if Evan had a mind to when she realized his good humour. She was playing the part perfectly, which eased her anxiety just a bit.
"I knew there were monsters in there!" the girl grumbled in response to his claim to protect her. "Fine, but if you let me die, my daddy will hunt you down," Evan warned lightly, the smile never leaving her face. With a quick motion, Evan pulled her top off and threw it on top of her towel to reveal her striped bathing suit top, deciding to leave her board shorts on. "After you!" she motioned to the lake
