| Subject: My English Essay!!! Tue Apr 09, 2013 6:43 pm | |
| I wrote this essay as a test in class and I got a really bad grade that I didn't deserve in the least! (if a really bad grade is an 82. For me it is). So a bit of background: my class read Alice in Wonderland earlier this year and we were asked to write an essay about satirization in the book. So I wrote the essay and got it back today and I'm really mad at my English teacher now. I don't like English, and I think that it's mainly because of my teacher. I'm just not a huge fan of the way she teaches and I don't think many people are. I can deal with that, I won't have the same teacher next year. So on the grading sheet, she takes off about 5 points (10%) for something that seems really small on the grading sheet. I was mad at her because I said a sentence that didn't totally back up my argument. SO WHAT!!!??? It really isn't that big a deal. And I wasn't that mad because I assumed that she had done this for a reason and was going to explain why she took off points in more depth in the essay itself. But I'm looking at my essay now and there is nothing that she explains why I got the grade that I got. She does say at one point that I could have gone deeper into something, but it was a timed test! I got around 40 minutes to do the dam thing, of course I couldn't have gone deeper. She said in class that we should look at things we could have done better and I looked at it and besides getting rid of a unnecessary sentence in my conclusion and replacing a paraphrase with a quote, there is nothing I could have done better (which is the reason I'm complaining about this and not my history paper, which wasn't as good as I thought it was). She even said Good! at then end of my essay. I feel like she took off points because I didn't do exactly what she wanted to do. And I feel that my school grades like that a lot with papers; doing exactly what they want you to do over taking risks and trying something new (I once got a worse grade than the dumbest person in my class in Spanish because I tried to speak in more than just primitive Spanish). I even came up with my own example that hadn't been used much before and I did a different topic than a lot of people. I was talking to one of my best friends about it and she did really well and I tried to act like it wasn't a big deal and I tried not to burst into tears, but it is a big deal. I tried really hard and didn't deserve what I got. I know that a 82 is a good grade for some of you, but it's the lowest grade that I've ever gotten on an assignment this big I just needed to get this out. | |

| Beanie, it's okay. I know I would have gotten hella pissed if I got a grade like that for no valid reason. I had an substitute English teacher who literally tried to get us to seeing his point of view of things. He didn't mark our grades with generalization, but with his own opinion of a good work because he thought he was such a 'big shot'. Because of that asshole, my mark dropped from an 97 to an 88 so yeah I don't like that guy at all. He can baste himself with hot oil for all I care. | |
