the war of flames Here is the little preamble for my newest random writing crave. Feel free to look at this before you read, I'm sure it'll help you understand what I'm getting at a little more. Look for the dots for a marking of a new topic. I'll have an introduction, and a little insight on all of my five main characters.
- Introduction ----
The Continent of Asralia [as-rael-ia] has never agreed on much of anything. Being populated with both the most headstrong of people, and beasts, peace hasn't ever occurred. Many nations, of all different climates, have clashed ever since the settlement of Asralia. The most recent war has been named the war of flames, named for it's use of dragons, and bloodshed. The reason is simple, rule. Out of all of the numerous nations, a leader has never existed in the Dust Settlers kingdom, and naturally chaos was formed. The Dust Settlers had a grand queen, who tragically lost her life in the war of seas. Now, her two daughters have to choose who gets the kingdom. Their answer? War. Without the ability to comply, or a sense of governing, war is normal. However, this isn't just another war. It's the war prophecies have been leading up to, the war that should lead Asralia out of it's darkness. The war to cause the dust to settle, only there's one tiny problem...
Their fate rests in the hands of teenagers.
Teenagers who don't know where their destiny lies, or how difficult it will be to reach. Will they succeed together? Or let their differences tear them apart?
- Tribes and their Alliances ---
Sky Tracers - Northern Plateaus - Allied with the Ice Breaks and the Eastern Dust Settlers - Led by Queen Sarisse, riding Scarlet Moon Dust Settlers [east] - South Eastern Deserts - Allied with the Sky Tracers and some Ice Breaks - Led by Princess Kaliah, riding Scorpion Kiss Dust Settlers [west] - South Western Deserts - Allied with the Sea Winds and Earth Bearers - Led by Princess Taliah, riding Sand Storm Earth Bearer - Eastern Plains - Allied with the Sea Winds and Western Dust Settlers - Led by Queen Malan, riding Nature Will Sea Winds - Eastern Seas - Allied with the Earth Bearers and Western Dust Settlers - Led by Queen Atalantic, riding Current Force Rain Whispers - Western Jungles - Don't take part in the war - Led by Queen Amazon, riding Morning Ray Ice Breaks - Northern Seas - Allied with the Sky Tracers and occasionally the Eastern Dust Settlers- Led by Queen Tundara, riding Glacier Point
- Character one; Reniah - Sky Tracer - Sixteen
Reniah, or Ren, for short, is a Sky Tracer, meaning that she lives in the northernmost part of Asralia. The headstrong girl fights alongside the rest of her tribe, riding their dragons. Ren is an archer, known for her hawk-like precision and strength. She has hollow brown eyes, resembling the color of the autumn moon. Her hair is a deep brown color, wavy, and flows to the middle of her back. However, the girl keeps in it a loose braid to prevent it from getting in her face while fighting. With her high cheekbones and prideful glare, you would think that Ren was born of noble birth, which is a half - truth. Her great grandfather was the leader of the Sky Tracers before being murdered by his brother, who set the tribe in the hands of his wife's family. Some say that it was the wife, other's say the man was mad, and couldn't possibly know what he was doing, causing havoc in the middle of the death they already lived in. Needless to say, they lost their path to lead, and Ren is a soldier, nothing more. Yet, she has no idea what's coming for her in the next few weeks. She is a compassionate girl, when far from the battlefield. She has been taught by her mother how to heal certain burns and cuts, most of them that are made by dragons. From the breath of an Ice Break, to the sting of a Dust Settler, she knows how to help. However, Ren is a terrible nurse, and wishes not to be put in that position. The caring girl also wishes to do her work alone, being independent and not fully trusting anyone. She learned that well enough.
Reniah rides her trusted Sky wing, Night Star, a dragon holding the speed and skills of your average sky tracing dragon. The dragons are sleek and slim, with long, daring wings. They fight and use their fire, being smart as most of their owners. Colored from dark purple to pale blue, they blend in best at night and in the sky, where they chose to do their biding. Night and Ren have a trusting relationship, being that both of their thoughts flow together smoothly. They push each other, and both don't know when to stop. Time will tell. Being that the Sky Tracers' land is filled with high cliffs, lush plains, and steep gorges, almost everyone isn't afraid of heights.
- Character two; Deluna - Eastern Dust Settler - Sixteen
Deluna, Dee or Luna, is a Dust Settler, living in the southern part of Asralia. Dee is a sassy girl, used to being spoiled, from everything to spoils of war, to getting to eat first. Still, as a bit of a priss, she fights alongside her tribe in the war. Dee is a spell caster, having the ability to transfer her dragon's sand powers through her hands, and use them to her abilities. The teenager resembles the deserts in which she was born, having golden sand hair. Her hair cascades down her back, and she doesn't bother doing anything to it. Dee's eyes are a velvety purple, that tend to glow when she preforms her sand sorcery. She is a short tempered girl, who loves getting her way. She has an attitude and isn't afraid to stand up for what she thinks is right, and therefore likes to change her loyalties quickly. Her parents are some of the richer families in the tribe, and she is used to getting everything she wants when she wants it. Dee isn't afraid to take something away viciously, and spill blood. It's common for a dust settler to feel this way about violence. As for cooperation, Dee couldn't give a care to the word. She, being good friends with Kaliah, the princess of the Eastern Dust Settlers, learned how to act from her. Take and take until you can't take anymore, then move on to another kingdom. Deluna is as stubborn as they come, and stuck up, thinking she is a princess herself.
Luna rides her poisonous dragon, Spiked Glory. She refers to him as Spike, and anyone who has fought the duo would know why. Dust Settlers' dragons have thick, heat - resistant scales. One the top of their heads sprout thick horns, sticking out to the sides of their heads, and being useful in fights. The dragons come in colors from pale yellow, to a thick and dark red. Spike, is a pale orange color with yellow scales on his belly and under his neck. The dragons have poisonous stingers on the end of their tails, just like scorpions. Their wings are thick as well, and they tend not to fly very much, their fighting being better on the ground. Now, with Deluna being a sorceress, she often forces sand into Spike's flames, making the impact all the harder. The two get along for the most part, knowing their places in the battle. Yet, they both can lose their temper.
- Character Three; Creek - Earth Bearer - Seventeen
Creek lives in the plains of Asralia, with the Earth Bearers. Unlike most teenagers his age, he doesn't fight with his comrades. His father was a forger of the weapons that most of their tribe used, that is until he passed away. Now, it's up to Creek to make, fix, and restore weapons to the constant battle. Personally, he doesn't mind being cooped up in the mud-made houses of the Earth Bearers. He could rather be inside having a constant job, than fighting and getting himself killed. Creek is a chubby boy, having a sweet and innocent looking face. However, the teenager is also large, standing at six feet in height, and not lacking in muscle for his work. Creek has short, unruly brown hair, being rather messy, and often lined with soot. His eyes are an amber color, and oval-shaped. The teenager is a softy, as most people in his tribe would describe him. He has a caring hand, and is a hard worker. As a forger, it's all the boy has ever really known. He takes directions from anyone, and trusts quickly. If he had to fight, the boy would be what people call an instructor. This type of fighting means that the rider helps the dragon in fighting, and is always on it.
Earth Bearers are thick, large, and strong dragons. They are born from the earth themselves, and have to prove their strength by digging out of their ten foot deep nests while hatching. Creek rides Pheasant Song, his older sister's dragon. Pheasant became his once Mora was killed in the fighting. Ever since that, Creek has barely ever been able to look at the dragon. Yet, the light brown dragon has a calm and obedient heart, perfect, really, for Creek. Pheasant, like most Earth Bearers' dragons, is large, having a square-shaped head and a thick muscled body. Her wings can keep her in the air for long periods of time, but like Dust Settlers, they don't fly for long.
- Character Four; Benacle - Sea Wind - Fifteen
Benacle, named after the Barnacle, goes by Benny and Benny alone. He hates his name, and will say that his name is Benny unless someone knows the truth about his naming. That's the thing about this young snitch, he loves lying. He is convinced that his life is so boring, even in the middle of a war, that he needs to have daily lies to make it more interesting. It runs in his family really, from their switching sides in average arguments, to trying to cheat extra food. The boy is rather small, and slim, being only 5'3". He has beady green eyes, like most of the Sea Wind people. Benny has a thick head of curly, red hair. It's very disincentive, and is about the only thing that lets people know where he really is. The small boy is often running around and messing with people, just to make his day a little more, out of the ordinary. Benny would hate being normal, and prefers being annoying instead. His parents don't mind, and aren't really around him to control him. As for siblings, Benny has none, and loves it that was. Being a spoiled annoyance has it's perks. He is almost never serious, and takes everything the wrong way, or simply laughs at it. Like death, he taunts whatever he battles, looking death in the face and laughing. He almost died in the last battle, not because of another tribe, but because another warrior thought he was an intruder from another kingdom and harpooned him. The boy is fine of course, and didn't learn his lesson at all, being that he would do it again any day, given the chance.
Sea Wind dragons are similar to fish, only with legs and wings. The dragons are colored anything from pale blue, to bright green, with variations of colors in between. The have curved horns that slide back behind their ears, making them look somewhat graceful. They have bands of different colors around their necks, that they light up to communicate with, to their family or riders. Benny rides a young Sea Wind named Shark Bait. Now, yes, Benny did name the poor female dragon. He calls her sharky more than not, yet is a caring owner. He loves her really, and takes decent care of her. As far as fighting goes, Benny fights with knives while Shark Bait distracts them, if they fight, which isn't often.
- Character Five; Ronan - Ice Breaks - Sixteen
Ronan is the firstborn son of Queen Tundara, of the Ice Breaks. Born of noble birth, he has gotten almost everything a boy could want, only, he doesn't want it. He would much rather be a normal teenager, fighting and risking his life, instead of being cooped up in an icy palace. He knows how to fight, sure, and can do wonders with his sword, but the boy never has a chance to use it. The boy has a royal appearance to him, but doesn't speak like it. He isn't very tall, only 5'6", with a lean body. He has strength, but by a simple glance at him, you wouldn't assume that. Ronan's hair is short and clean - shaved. It's a midnight black color, unlike the wintery blonde color most Ice Break people have. The teenager's eyes are the real thing he had going for him, which are an icy blue. They seem see through, and are very vibrant. His skin resembles a pale moon, which is another feature of the Ice Break people. Usually, Ronan chooses to be silent in a conversation, simply soaking up the information like a sponge. He has a very calming presence, and doesn't often speak his mind. When Ronan does speak, however, he shows his intelligence and humor, which he leaks into his words.
Ice Breaks are daring dragons, being excellent fighters like their riders. Ronan rides Freeze Point, the son of his mother's dragon. Freeze, like many Ice Breaks, ranges from an icy blue color, to pale white. The dragon is mostly white, with a lavender and light blue color under his wings. Most Ice Breaks have large horns in the back of their heads, sticking out like icicles, which makes them difficult to ride. Be that as it may, they are also very smart dragons. They are born with a fighting instinct, and deadly ice - fire breath, that freezes their victims. Ronan and Freeze fight side - by - side, the teenager with a three foot sword, and the dragon with his freeze breath.

| the war of flames; prologue ------------------------------------------------------------------ A pair of bright Rain Whisper wings zipped across the horizon, the storm still pounding against the dragon and it's rider. A pair of blue eyes watched from the designated ledge, near the mountains that separated all of these violent tribes. Once the pair landed, a teenager of seventeen stepped off the brightly colored dragon. "Couldn't you have chosen a duller dragon to ride over, Paradise?" the hooded figure asked, a small frown present on her lips. Paradise looked at her dragon affectionately, running her fingers over the bright kaleidoscope of scales.
"No, Misty likes to get out of the jungle sometimes, no one saw me anyways,"
the girl responded. She flipped her dip-dyed hair out of her hood, the rainbow showing along the edge of her caramel - colored hair. Paradise gave Faith a small smile and shook her head. "Lighten up a bit, yeah?" she suggested with a raised eyebrow. Paradise knew the response she would get from her friend, who had been the one to get this vision in the first place. Faith was sweet and compassionate, but she was also serious, which is what the seventeen year old lacked. Rain still pouring heavily, it didn't seem like the precipitation was going to stop anytime soon. The fifteen year old shook her head, gazing distantly out at the rising sun. "It's going to happen, soon, they need to find each other soon," the girl insisted. Paradise nodded slowly, her eyes following Faith's, trying to find out what she was looking at. "You're doing that, just so you know, I can't," Faith added with a small smile sliding onto her face. Paradise swiftly spun her head around at her friend, a blank expression showing through on her face "Me?!" she demanded, face turning reddened. "This was your idea anyways!" Paradise added, crossing her arms in an accusing demeanor. Judging by the look on Faith's face, of pure seriousness, the girl was going to get the saviors of Asralia together if they liked it or not. Pursing her lips defiantly, she stormed to mount Mist Scale, her dragon. "How am I going to contact them?" she asked dryly. Faith grabbed the reins to her dragon, a Rain Whisperer with mud smeared over it's colorful scale. Caravan Rider, or Cara as Faith called her, didn't appear to be enjoying her camouflage. The small dragon was trying to scrape away the stiff mud. "Mail isn't an option, not with this war, how about... pay a visit to them? Personally deliver them a nice message, personally remember," Faith instructed, mounting Cara. Pulling her hood over her brightly colored hair, Paradise scowled. "All of them? In the middle of a - " she began, but knew it was useless. She was stuck with Faith's orders, as the dull dragon began taking off in the direction of the Rainforest. "Oh yes, leave the tough stuff for me, I'd love to visit people all over in the middle of a war, with Misty, that wouldn't be suspicious at all, no, thank you Faith, so much, I volunteer, yeah." she thought angrily. Flicking her heels into Misty's side, the beast lurched into the air, headed to the East Dust Settlers Kingdom, to begin her lovely meet and greet session. ------------------------------------------------------------------ As the last ray's of sunlight hid over the horizon, Paradise was at the outskirts of the Eastern Dust Settler's territory. She knew that Princess Kaliah's army was most likely guarding the tribe, but then again, most people assumed Rain Whisperers to be lazy, and no threat to much of anyone. Heart pounding loudly in her ears, the girl continued on. "Nice and easy girl, no rush," she cooed softly, stroking the dragon's neck as the glided through the air. Her words were taken away swiftly, by the sound of an advancing army. With a shaky breath, Misty dived down near the sand, uncomfortable due to the heat of the pebbles, still cooling off from the heavy desert sunlight. "I think we won't be visiting Deluna today," she said shakily, trying to keep her dragon calm. The bright colors of her scales reflected off of the searchlight of the attackers. Paradise buried her head in the wings of her steed, hoping to remain unseen. Her worst fears became realized quickly, just as she thought that the army had passed. "Oh my gosh! Kaliah, it's a Rain Whisperer!" a voice exclaimed giddily. Paradise's head shot up in a firm glare, that was removed once she realized who she was talking to. Deluna. The teenager stood, hesitant, but protecting Misty none the less. Her small hunting knife felt heavy in her pocket from lack of use or experience as she felt Deluna observing her. The blonde was admittedly pretty, her golden locks swaying as she walked. Her bright purple eyes scanned the dragon and rider for a few moments before shrugging. "If you want the Rain Whisperers to join us, too late, we're full," she said passively. Paradise opened her mouth for a moment, no sound coming out at first. "Er, no, it's not about the army," she said, trying to sound confident. If every tribe was going to be like this, she would probably have the Rain Whisperers in all of the armies by the time she had contacted all of the heroes. "I was carrying a message, for you," she continued, glancing nervously up at Deluna's vibrant eyes. Judging by her expression, she didn't have time to exchange in words with a stranger. "Er, well, just come to Traveler's Point in two weeks? It's important," she finished. Deluna smirked and nodded. "Oh, you think you can leave just like that?" she said, noticing Paradise mounting her dragon, looking to be leaving shortly. "No, no, I think Kaliah would be very interested in how you come over here without being killed," she began, eyes beginning to glow. The girl knew that symbol. Deluna was a sorceress, and about to cast her magic. "Er, well, have fun with your war, yeah? Remember, two weeks!" Paradise responded nervously, kicking Mist Scale up into the air. A blast of sand narrowly missed them as they speed off. "WATCH YOUR BACK, RAIN WHISPERER!" Deluna screamed, laughing soon after ward. Rain people were such teases, easily frightened off. The blonde soon watched two full-grown Dust Settlers zoom after the strange visitor, poisonous tails ready to strike. Hearing a scream, and the cry of a dragon, the Dust Settler smirked.

| the war of flames; chapter one ------------------------------------------------------------------ The morning air was still as the sun rose up over the mountain peaks of Asralia. Still, the peacefulness couldn't hided the blood stains on the ground near Traveler's Point. It was a common, yet hard to reach place, named because it was a common place for delusional travelers to rest. Paradise sat beside her Rain Whisperer, colorful scales almost glowing in the bright sunlight. The seventeen year old was alone, at least for the time being. She had a new cut still fresh on her face, due to the poison that was on the Dust Settler's blades. The cut ran along her cheek, and leaked a bright vermillion pigment. Her eyes watch the sky, hoping to see a pair of wings flying her way. She had barely been able to contact all of the heroes, due to Misty's injury thanks to Deluna's attack.
A dark blue figure passed overhead, circled the mountain ledge once, and landed. The sleek dragon carried a sixteen year old with dark brown hair. After the rider dismounted, Paradise recognized her as Reniah, the Sky Tracer girl. With observant eyes, the girl took a hesitant seat beside her dragon, Night Star, who was already making himself comfortable. Paradise gave her a convincing smile as she continued to watch the sky, hoping for more to come quickly. Reniah was one of the few people who actually had listened to Paradise, and heard her out.
Soon a light brown dragon appeared one the ledge, carrying a large boy with chubby cheeks. "Hi Creek," Paradise greeted with a smile. Reniah's face was hard and stiff, her bow now in her lap. With just one look, you could tell she didn't really trust people on the opposite side of the war, even if they were supposed to save the world together. Creek gave her a wave, and a small smile, before leading Pheasant Song over to sit by Misty. Next came the joker of the group, Benny, who was hanging by the talon's of his dragon. A bright green dragon with soft blue under scales landed the boy first, then took her place beside him. "Heeeeey," he said with a goofy grin. Reniah frowned, her fingers curling around the base of her bow. "Oh, shoot me Sky Tracer?" Benny taunted, dancing around as if to test her patience. Her grip loosened, as her hollow eyes fell to the floor, cheeks somewhat reddened. It wasn't her fault that trust couldn't happen, even in this peaceful setting. "I could, Sea Wind," she said softly, tracing the bow string with her finger. "But you won't, that's not what we're here for, Reniah," a voice said. The two turned to look at Creek, as as calm as ever. Benny shrugged and sat on the edge of the rock, hanging his feet carelessly over it. Next, an almost impossibly bright white dragon flew overhead, before landing. Reniah recognized him, barely, only because this boy was the prince of her allying tribe. Ronan, or something along that nature. Paradise gave him an enthusiastic wave as he sat down, still keeping his distance from Benny and Creek as well. It seemed like Reniah wasn't the only one in Asralia with trust issues. Paradise was silently mounting her dragon as they waited for the fifth and final hero. "Leaving so soon, lady?" Benny called lazily, laying flat on the rock. The Rain Whisperer shook her head, kicking off the ground. "No, but Deluna will come soon, then you guys are on your own," she explained, giving them all final waves. "Good luck heroes!" she called into the soft breeze. The four sat in silence for a long moment, just observing each other for a moment. "I'm hungryyyy," Benny would complain in the coming hours. Or, "I'm tiredddd," and, "This rock is so uncomfortable." Eventually, Creek had revealed some meat pies, that the Sea Wind boy devoured without giving it a second thought. Frowning, Reniah stood, ready to mount her dragon. "Where do you think you're going?" Benny asked with a frown, meat juice still covering his freckled face. Without giving him a reply, she ventured down into the forested area, and began to gather firewood. After finding enough wood for the night, she shot two large kapoi fish. Once she returned, there still was no sigh of the Deluna girl. "Here, let me help," Ronan offered, rising. Reniah shook her head, taking flint and steel from her bag. She also drew a fish scaler, and their supper. "I'll scale the fish," Ren muttered softly, face red again. What if he noticed it was her? After all, she was the one to teach him archery, that he was, admittedly, terrible at. The fish were cooking in no time, as the sun was setting on the first day they had spent together. Creek had gone down to fetch water, while Benny had done nothing of importance. After eating in a similar silence, they decided to look for Deluna in the morning. "Where do you think she is?" the ginger asked. Reniah sighed and looked out at the stars. "Did you see the cut on Paradise's cheek? Or the scar on her dragon's wing?" she asked, not waiting for a reply. "It was from venom of the Dust Settler dragon, that's why it can't heal yet. It won't fully close for a week," Reniah explained softly. She laid her head on Night Star's leg, as the dragon set it's wing over her body for warmth. "To the Dust Settlers, then," Ronan agreed, as the group shut their eyes for the night. Only the stars and moon remained as their light source, and the only promise of a new, bright day.
