"I'd much prefer incapacitated to dead." He said shortly, reaching into his pocket for a vial of golden liquid and tossing it to Alexis, before focusing back the the task at hand. That is concentrated nectar essence, Conrad told her mentally, use only a drop or two, there's like a gallon of the normal kind in there.
He then tried to take control of the serpent's mind. As he touched it, he felt a range of blinding emotions that threatened to overwhelm him, gasping, he staggered back, before regaining control. The Amphisbaena's strength and intelligence must have increased with its size, he thought, as it stiffened and fought against him. Conrad managed to subdue it at last after several minutes of tense battling. It became placid and meek, no longer flailing about. The downside was that he felt everything the serpent felt, the throbbing eye, the other dead and mutilated head, and the uncanny desperateness of its situation. He could now make it shoot fire, or bite itself, whichever he wanted. He could even make it drown itself in its own blood.
Shoot it, quickly, he suggested to Alexis nonchalantly, holding the serpent's own mind at bay, appearing not to care one way or the other of the snake's emotions.

Alexis Castle Daughter of Apollo ➳ Alexis jumped in surprise, then she shifted uncomfortably. It was a bit unsettling hearing his voice inside her head, but that was a thought for another time. Alexis caught the vial with her free hand and dropped her bow a moment to take the nectar while Conrad held back the creature. As instructed, she piped only a couple drops onto her tongue. She was taken aback by the taste. Usually, nectar tasted like her mother's strawberry champagne cupcakes, but the taste of this 'concentrated nectar essence' more closely resembled a cherry cry baby candy. "Oh, wow," she coughed. The stuff gave her quite the rush, and she instantly felt better. She slid the vial into her jeans, gripped her bow and got to her head. Just a tad woozy. She suspected it would pass soon enough. With the problem of her slow, painful, and inconvenient death resolved, she turned her attention to Conrad. He seemed to be struggling against the serpent, mentally. When his breath caught and he stumbled back, Alexis flinched, taking a half step forward, but he was only overwhelmed for a moment. He quickly regained a level of control. There was a mental struggle, unseen, but Alexis could feel the tension build. She slowly nocked an arrow. Eventually the serpent was subdued. Alexis was curious about what was going on in this mental lock, but she decided neither one of them was having much fun. There was his voice in her head again. She did not react this time, she just listened. With the serpent still, the kill shot would be simply. She absently positioned her body perpendicular to her target, feet shoulder-width apart, drawing back the nocked arrow to her anchor point as the corner of her mouth and raising her bow in one fluid motion. Finally, she aimed and released the arrow, moving her draw hand back to finish the shoulder rotation. She kept the bow steady, watching the arrow fly without moving until it hit the target, and Alexis watched the monster burst into a cloud of yellow dust. || ✉ OOC: None. || || ✎ Word Count: 345 || ❤ RP Partner: Summer

The relief was immediate. Conrad did not deal with creatures like that on a daily basis. He felt mentally exhausted, but it would pass in a few moments. He surveyed the damage, a little disappointed. He had hoped to collect a little of the venom before killing it.
"I'd like my nectar back, if you will." He stated directly, abruptly edging back towards his normal cold nature, suddenly realising he had not had such long conversation with anyone he didn't know much about for some time, years in fact. It was unlike him, but oddly, he currently didn't seem to mind it too much. So long the person wasn't categorised under the annoying list. Perhaps he was beginning to accept the fact that everyone had their own flaws and perks, that he couldn't be around people with the same intelligence as him all the time, and that campers here were not as incompetent and obnoxious as the mortal children in his previous private school he was forced to enroll in.
That was the problem with his fatal flaw: Conrad knew that it was true that he could accomplish and do things better than others, hence he had a tendency to not be bothered with other people. And the flaw branched out to a more serious notion, where he couldn't trust anyone fully, anyone except himself. He did not withdraw within himself, but neither could he care enough to make a habit of socialising pointlessly with people without an interior motive.
Which was why although he is completely in check of his regular emotions, he had difficulty expressing ones he less commonly used.

Alexis Castle Daughter of Apollo ➳ She certainly wasn't expecting that response after their rather intense battle. She would have thought it was a joke or something, but Conrad just did not seem the type. She just gave a nod. "Right," she chuckled dryly, digging the vial out of the front pocket of her jeans and holding it out to him. "Thanks," she nodded. "Sorry you had to waste some of it on me," she said. You would think that was a bitter statement, and she definitely thought about saying it that way, but that is not how it came out. She was genuinely sorry about it. She should have dodged the snake spit. Alexis could not help but feel a little hurt by the way he seemed to act as if it was such an inconvenience to him. Maybe she was imagining it, but she couldn't help but notice that he was disappointed about something... "So, are you okay," she asked, turning to retrieve her jacket and trying to look and sound as unconcerned as she could muster, as he would probably hate her for worrying. She was worried though, because she did not know or understand the toll his mental battle with the amphisbaena would have on him. Alexis quickly returned her attention to her jacket to distract herself, remembering that he could read her thoughts if he wanted to. She examined a hole in the left sleeve where the venom burned through the material like acid. "Wow," she muttered. "I'm glad it didn't do that to my arm," she chuckled nervously, draping it over her arm. "So, I take it you've seen or fought one of those before," she began. "Are they always that big and... you know... fire breathing," she asked with a chuckle. || ✉ OOC: None. || || ✎ Word Count: 290 || ❤ RP Partner: Summer

Conrad noticed that Alexis was apologising for something entirely not her fault, looking a little hurt. The only reason he could think of was the way he had brushed her off earlier, as if she had been an inconvenience to him. He reached out for the vial, fingers briefly brushing against hers, replying, "As I said, I wouldn't prefer you dead."After her next question, he became aware that she was worried about him to some extent, something he was not used to, yet he realised that she had been throughout the entire series of events. No harm in continuing this conversation, he mentally shrugged. "Yes, I'm fine," he assured her, surprised, but remaining apparently nonchalant. "That would have been disastrous. They aren't usually that big, normally three times smaller."He glanced at a sleek silver device on his left wrist that appeared to be a watch, about an inch wide, and as thin as a sword's blade. "You'll be wanting to complete the maze, I suppose," Conrad stated, before turning the corner and disappearing behind the wall without another word. Alexis Castle Daughter of Apollo ➳ When Conrad insisted that he was alright, Alexis' shoulders relaxed a bit, and she let out a subtle sigh of relief. He definitely seemed fine, but it was certainly more of a relief to actually hear him say it. Though he came off as the proud type who wouldn't admit if something was wrong though, she could see that he was. Her worry melted away for a moment, though that was before he glanced at his watch, said something about her finishing the maze, and disappearing further into it. Alexis was frozen for a moment in confusion. Words caught in her throat. "H-hey, wait," she finally managed, hurrying after him. She was glad she had not actually lost him. If she had stood there, dumb-founded, for any longer, she probably would have lost sight of him for good. "With my luck, I'll be wandering around aimlessly for way longer than I should, and I'll probably run into another one of those mutated snake-things, or worse," she explained with a nervous chuckle. Sure, she wouldn't want to run into something like that and face it alone, but she was really more concerned about him. As he had said, it would have been disastrous. If there was something else that huge and powerful lurking in the maze, neither of them should be alone. And what if other people were wondering around alone in there, getting attacked by things like that? "Besides, aren't you curious as to why that thing was so much bigger and stronger than it should have been," she asked. "I know you probably have some theories already, but I wanna know for sure. And what if there are other things out there like it? There could be other campers in danger," she said thoughtfully. There was no way she was just going to finish the maze and get on with her day; not while she knew other people could be in danger. || ✉ OOC: Hate doing that!! Conrad had walked about a corridor of maize maze turned to see Alexis behind, and full of questions. What was she still doing here?
Hearing her explanations, he raised an eyebrow, pointing out, "And you won't when you're following me?" He sighed, resigned, and continuing forward, reaching a fork and heading left, stepping over a trip wire. There were a lot of it around, and he was mildly surprised that they hadn't triggered one during the fight. Either way, he wanted to be on the move, to avoid the same irritating Greek creature that seemed to keep finding and challenging him throughout the maze. "It was probably a spell that went wrong," Conrad answered matter-of-factly, "This maze was meant to be dangerous. We're in a camp full of demigods."

Alexis Castle Daughter of Apollo ➳ Alexis shrugged. "Or a spell that went right," she pointed out. It wasn't exactly a crazy suggestion. They were in the middle of a war, weren't they? So maybe a Hecate camper was to blame for the creature, but who's to say it wasn't on purpose? "This maze was just supposed to be a harmless puzzle with campers dressing up in ridiculous costumes running around and acting like idiots, jumping out and scaring whoever tried to get through. It wasn't supposed to be dangerous," she said; it was her turn to respond matter-of-factly. She noticed the way he continued forward and stopped a moment, noticing the trip-wire. "Like that," she muttered, stepping over it. "A friend of mine set one of those off and was blasted by some fake blood that smelled like rotten eggs," she sighed. "That’s what you're supposed to be running into in here; stupid teenage pranks, not Greek monsters on steroids." || ✉ OOC: None || || ✎ Word Count: 155 || ❤ RP Partner: Summer
