Kayleigh and Achelle haven't spoken in ages, and frankly, it was beginning to make Achelle's stomach churn with guilt. The other blonde had disappeared from Achelle's sight the last few months and being so maternal when it comes to Kayleigh, she cannot help but think the worst. It doesn't happen with anyone else, but the taller (how... ironic?) girl.
Achelle twirls a strand of her blonde, greasy hair, focusing on the stagnant water of the lake. Her head was pounding; throbbing. She couldn't think straight. All that passed through her mind was her best friend's face and how much danger she could have been in these last few months. Achelle's not sure if Kayleigh knew, but she made a promise to herself the day she met the innocent, naive girl: keep an eye on her.
The small girl pushed herself up, popped two aspirins from the plastic Ziploc bag in her jacket pocket and momentarily closed her eyes. The sudden breeze ruins the temporary peace she felt, irritating her, but the little firecracker suppresses the irritation and focuses on the fog ahead. She raises her head and leans on the dock, wondering if her old friend is doing okay - alone. That's it, Achelle just needs reassurance that Kayleigh doesn't need her... but, then, would she still have a purpose? All this time she just focused on mothering Kayleigh. Achelle bit her lip - hard. She never was actually a friend. She never listened. Friends listen.
