Conrad smiled and turned back to watching the sea. It was dusk, and night was about to fall. But he had no intention of going back to camp. He sat there looking at the horizon. The rays spilled over it and streaked silver clouds with purple and salmon pinkish-orange, turning the waters far away, directly underneath it, an inky black.

The waves were beautiful. They reminded me of California, and the beach that was in the small town where I lived. And my sister. Willow. Without me realizing, the temperature started to drop. Willow. I hadn't gotten to say good-bye to her. And I had been here four years.

Conrad felt it. The temperature was decreasing again, and not naturally. Natural weather did not freeze on one side and stay constant on the other. But this time he sensed something different and was tactful enough not to use a dryly mock-weary tone and snap 'Now what?'.

"What's wrong?" He asked Buffy without turning back.

I shook myself out of the thoughts spinning around my head. I realized that the air was freezing.
'Sorry! It just...does that sometimes. Nothings wrong,' I quickly formed my face into a smile, and concentrated enough that the air warmed up.
'Just...family stuff, you know?' I asked.

Family stuff. Conrad zoned out for a moment, flashes of his life before camp ran through his head. It was over in barely a third of a second, his ash-grey eyes turning back to its typical intense sharp gaze. His expression didn't change the least. "Yeah." He had little time with his father, who would always be discussing his work life. But still, family was family. Conrad was still irritated at his father, but he couldn't deny that fact.

"You miss someone?" He just asked Buffy randomly, for the sake of it, not actually missing his father.

I laughed, but for once it was a cold gesture.
'Thats the thing. I've been here four years, and I don't miss her. My little sister. Willow is her name. I didn't get to say good-bye,' I smiled, trying to be nicer.

He turned towards her, tilting his head slightly to the right. "Why didn't you?" Conrad asked, a little surprised. "Four years is more than enough time."

I grimaced.
'I would be putting everyone I love in danger. You must get that. If I went back it would endanger her. If I phoned her it would endanger me. If I wrote a letter, it could endanger both of us. No. It's better I stay away. One day, I'll go back to her. But not now,' a faint smile lighted my face.

Conrad nodded, and turned back. "But there's nothing wrong with IM, is there?" He added, dry sarcasm creeping into his tone He continued looking at the waves crashing into the sand. The water was a dark glittering blue now.

I thought about it for a minute, watching the waves roll.
'She wouldn't stay long enough to see me. She would be even more heartbroken if she could see me, but not hug me. If you know what I mean. Anyway. Enough about me. What about you?' I asked, trying to be peppy.

Conrad raised an eyebrow. It sounded like she was trying to weasel out of meeting her sister. "Right. As a matter of fact, I don't. But whatever." He said, unconvinced, but let it pass. She obviously didn't want to talk about it.

"Me? Nothing much." He said vaguely, withdrawing again. He never went deeper into these things with anyone before. In fact, he usually didn't talk much to anyone. Except Cookie. And she was an exception. Certainly not with someone he had met for barely an hour.

'I understand. Really I do. I'm just a random person.'
I whistled loudly and Keno came back.
'Good boy! Now, what do you say about us going back for our run?' I asked him, already moving to go.
'See you another time Conrad. Nice to meet you,' I called over my shoulder, a hint of a laugh in my voice.

"Yeah, you are." Conrad muttered, watching as the dog bounced back to her. "Perhaps," he replied to her next sentence. He didn't move throughout the entire encounter, and had no intention of going back either after she left either. Despite his ADD, he was able to sit still for long periods of time, seemingly doing nothing.

I chuckled slightly as I walked away. His words had carried on the wind.
'Perhaps,' I ehcoed.
Then I slowly started to jog, building into a run. Keno loped along beside me.
