Nezza stood atop of Halfblood hill, overlooking the camp she had lived in ever since her run away. The place where she finally felt free from the bonds of her family; where she finally felt safe in her life; where she finally had a place she could call...home. But now, she was going to have to leave it all behind for some stupid quest she didn't even want. She felt a little nostalgic when she surveyed the grounds, feeling a bit surprised at how much she grew attached to this crazy, godly but friendly and funny area they call camp.
She idly wondered for a moment if this would be the last time she'd ever see it again.
Okay, Nezza. Now's not the time to get pessmistic.
She shook her head from such thoughts and looked to the side to see her companions beside her. Nezza smiled a bit upon seeing the pair. One of them was like an older brother to her whom she could trust wholeheartedly while the other, even if only meeting her once, was already like a close friend to Nezza.
She knew she picked the right demigods for this trip because not only are they strong and dependable but they are also trustworthy. Nezza had a feeling that Alec and Serena have already met before so it'd at least be an easier part for all of them that we wouldn't have to be travelling with strangers.
Nezza then took her purple Duffel bag that was resting under Thalia's pine tree and slung it over her shoulders. She checked her appearance a bit for one last time before they left. She was wearing her favorite ripped black jeans and a black t-shirt with the text "Blame it on my Wild Heart" boldly printed on it. Black and purple sneakers to finish the outfit and purple shades sitting atop her head if ever it gets too bright.
Well, it isn't too hard to guess what her favorite color was but you can't blame her for loving the color as it reminds her of her mother anyway.
"Okay, troops. We got a long week ahead of us so I'd like to finish this quest before dinner so come on!" Nezzza said cheerfully to her friends and started trudging down the hill where she knew Argus would be waiting for them, expecting the others to follow her lead. He's going to be driving them to the city where they'd be on their on from there.
"Since the prophecy mentioned the Isle of Blest, first place to go is the land of the living hell. Freakin' great, right?" Nezza grumbled a bit at the end, not liking the fact that they'd have to go to the underworld first but couldn't do anything about it if they wanted to finish their quest.
She had nothing against Hades' domain since she wasn't really scared of ghosts. No, she just didn't want to see a certain spirit there who had been haunting her nightmares ever since she was a child. She shivered a bit from the memory as she took her seat in the van, closest to the window.
As the vehicle started driving a way, she had a last glimpse of the hill and Thalia's pine tree before a certain son of Apollo went through the depressing thoughts in her mind. She smiled slightly as she remembered their last encounter and suddenly felt a surge of determination rush through her. She's going to keep her promise for him and finish this quest with everyone safe and sound.

Alec hadn't planned on going on a quest. Hell, he didn't even want to go on a quest. He was about to decline the offer, but when he found out that one of his fellow camper, Serena, was partaking in the dangerous mission, he quickly jumped on the chance to join as well.
Out of all the people, he didn't understand why Nezza would ask him to accompany her. Sure, he was like an older brother to her, but he was also hot-headed and very impatient. He was used to flying solo.
He trailed behind Serena and Nezza who were walking side by side. Perching his sunglasses on his head, he silently made a promise to himself to keep them both safe throughout the quest. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if something happened to any of them, especially Serena. Speaking of her, Alec still wasn't sure about the feelings he had towards her. As girly as it sounded, he felt butterflies in his stomach just at the sound of her name, and he felt his heartbeat accelerate just at the sight of her.
He checked the contents of his backpack once again before they left. He packed some snacks, nectar, ambrosia, and a few extra clothes. He also brought along his harmonica, for entertainment purposes. Hopefully he wouldn't use up the nectar or ambrosia. He wanted to think that they would all make it back in one piece.
Alec fidgeted, dusting imaginary dirt off the sleeves of his raglan t-shirt, and flicking his hair to the side. He didn't want to admit it, but he was extremely nervous. All he wanted to do was make his mom proud for once.
His head snapped up when Nezza started talking. Smirking, he wondered how she was able to keep up with such a peppy endeavor when they know they have a big chance of dying in the next few days.
"The Underworld," Alec said blankly. "If it's anything like the Inferno, I'm not gonna enjoy it." he shivered, picturing all the flames as depicted in books. As the son of the goddess of ice, it was going to be hell for him… literally.
Alec opened up the doors for both of the girls, pushing Serena to sit in between him and Nezza. Giving her a teasing smile, he gestured for her to go in first.
He watched Camp Half-Blood disappear in the distance. For once in a long time, he'd be leaving camp for the day and wouldn't be back after curfew later that night.

Make it a sweet, sweet goodbye. It could be for the last time and it's not right. Don't let yourself get in over your head, he said. Alone and far from home I'll find you. Sing me to sleep. I'll see you in my dreams. Waiting to say, I miss you. I'm so sorry. Forever never seemed so long; as when you're not around it's like a piece of me is missing.

SERENA VAILLE Daughter of Apollo
Serena ran her slender fingers through her hair, securing it with a black elastic band, transforming her hair into a high ponytail with a few side bangs left astray. She couldn't believe that she was finally going to a quest after her many years here in camp. Though Nezza and Alec seem completely bummed by this quest, she on the other hand, had a grin on her face. "Aren't you all the slightest bit excited? We can all bond!" She said, rather cheerfully.
Then it hit her, she might have a possibility to see her deceased mother. With her smug face suddenly disappearing, she helped herself onto the car. Alec gave her a teasing smile, urging her to go first, which lightened her mood for a bit. She knit her eyebrows with a smile forming on her lips. "What's with the face?" she laughed. Then she realized that she'd have to take the middle seat so she was sandwhiched between her two companions.
It was a bit tight in the van, maybe it was because they had their personal belongings with them too. She tried to pack light but she ended up bringing her sketchpad, her iPod, some pencils, chewing gum and other irrelevant things. She sighed, knowing that it'd be hard carrying around and regretting it the moment she felt the weight of her messenger bag. It was even worse knowing that she'd have to carry around her bow and arrows and her twin katar knives as her melee weapon.
"The Underworld huh?" Serena started, pursing her lips. Looks like they were going to Los Angeles all together. She seemed dressed for the slightly warmer climate there. She wore a black tank top and a grey hoodie that covered her bare arms and denim walking shorts, making it easier for her to walk around in and finally her black Chuck Taylors. She even brought her aviators that were black as well, knowing that they'd take a trip to Hell. She wondered what it will look like. People had different descriptions about it, like for example, Dante Alighieri.
Yes she read Inferno, and it says that it had different levels. By levels, it meant that Hell was divided into different floors of suffering. The further you go down, the nearer you were to him, in this case that meant Hades. She shuddered by the thought.
She wrapped her arms around Nezza and Alec, trying to lighten the mood by changing the subject other than going to the land of the living dead. "So...How'd you guys meet? I didn't know that you already knew each other." She said, managing a smile.
Serena glanced outside the van, seeing that they were almost in the train station. Here we go, she silently thought to herself.

Nezza couldn't help but grin at Serena's bright attitude, happy that at least someone in the group could lighten up the mood. She knew Alec was feeling a bit angsty too if his silent demeanor during the ride didn't prove it. She wondered for a moment if he felt the same way as her. Not liking to go on a quest in which you'll most likely die in. Accompanied with the people you care about who might end up in a horrible fate because of you.
Gods, Nezza! What's with the emo thoughts lately?!
She shook her head from such dark imaginations and turned towards Serena when she heard a question directed towards her and Alec. "Umm..." Nezza didn't know where to begin as she was suddenly brought back to the time when she had attacked and accused Alec for...very mature behavior that he didn't even do.
She turned bright red at the memory and looked away from her companions before they could see her flushed cheeks. "Well, let's just say I got a very wrong first impression of him atop halfblood hill." Nezza responded with a bit of an embarrassed laugh escaping from her lips. She was still ashamed of her actions when she first met him even though Alec had already forgiven her for that.
Nezza couldn't have been more grateful towards Argus as he stopped the car in front of a train station that would take them to L.A., effectively ending their conversation. She immediately got out of the van with a "thanks and I hope that we live" goodbye for the many-eyed man and went straight down the steps of the station, slowing her pace down a bit to let the others catch up.
She bought tickets for all of them since she had a load of pocket money she got to own from her old...home. She then sat down on one of the seats of the train, making sure that it was as close to the exit as possible. She couldn't help but feel a little paranoid being surrounded with a bunch of mortals around her. Nezza knew that a monster could come up to them any second so she couldn't let her guard slip if they started to attack.

Alec laughed at the memory of his first encounter with Nezza. "Wrong first impression? That's an understatement! You tried to kill me!" he guffawed, chuckling at the daughter of Nyx's expression.
As Nezza bolted out of the van, leaving him and Serena behind, he took the opportunity to properly study her. Her light brown hair was tied up in a messy ponytail, tendrils framing her face nicely. She was dressed rather modestly too. In her gray hoodie, shorts, and sneakers, Alec thought that she looked better than every child of Aphrodite.
He forced himself to avert his gaze to Nezza, who was already by the entrance of the train station. Alec frowned when he noticed that she paid for their tickets. He shoved his hand in his pocket, fishing for the mixed drachmas and US dollars he kept in his pocket. He'd make sure to pay for their next expense.
Alec plopped down on the seat next to Nezza. It took a while for the train to move, and he already knew that the week would be long for him.

SERENA VAILLE Daughter of Apollo
Serena grinned when Nezza blushed at her question and burst out laughing when Alec said that she tried to kill him. Though she tried to, they seemed pretty close actually. The moment Argus stopped the van, Nezza made her way straight towards the train station, leaving her and Alec alone in the van. He stared at her, like he was studying Serena. She raised her eyebrows at him as she got her stuff and went out the van. "Bye Argus! Have a safe trip back." Serena waved at him goodbye like a little child.
She walked towards Nezza, figuring she already bought their tickets. "Oh thanks, Nez." Serena said as she got her ticket. "Remind me to pay you back." She didn't want people to pay for her needs. It wasn't like she had an ego, it was just that she didn't want to burden them in any way which eventually made her independent. This is why she hoped that she wouldn't cause trouble while they were on this quest.
They walked in the train, apparently it was so crowded. You couldn't blame all the New Yorkers, and these people had places to go. People of all different kinds filled the train, making them squish all together. They managed to sit down after squeezing through the crowd which took quite some time. Passengers were reading the newspapers, some having some coffee and numerous babies crying while the lights flickered overhead. Nothing unusual, Serena thought her herself. Most of them looked like normal people.
Serena got the seat near the window and pulled out her iPod from her bag. Knowing that this was going to be a lengthy trip, she decided to listen to some music and sleep. She will probably need all the energy she could get before fighting off some beasts once they set foot on the land of the dead.
"I'm just going to sleep you guys, inform me when anything seems...fishy" She told them while she removed her hoodie to make use as her pillow. She closed her eyes as she drifted to sleep quickly.

"You'd know somethings fishy when the train's in utter chaos." Nezza mumbled to an already sleeping Serena, eyes darting around the train for any unusual business. She looked to her side where Alec was seated beside her and she decided to struck up a conversation with him to let the time fly by.
Though before that, she made sure that her arm was around the sleeping girl's shoulders just so that Nezza would know she was still there. Also to make sure that no perverts grab her away while the daughter of Nyx's back was turned. She felt very protective of her friends as she never had one before in her past life.
After she was satisfied that Serena would be safe, she turned her head to the boy beside her and finally told him what she's been feeling ever since their trip started. "Sorry for dragging you into...well, unfortunately, my quest as the prophecy says it. I bet you probably didn't want to come since you seem more like a "I-fly-solo" type of guy."
Nezza giggled a bit from her observation of him. But it was true as she had been watching her cold friend from afar ever since their encounter. It wasn't really stalking per say, more like looking out for him.
"But, you were the only one I could choose since, besides me knowing you, I actually trust you more than any other of your siblings. If I had to lead a stupid quest, I might as well get the people I like and trust the most to make it successful." Nezza said with a smile directed at him, hoping that he wouldn't get mad with her reasons for choosing him.
Although when she turned to look at him, something caught her eye as she noticed something odd on the other row of seats from theirs, behind Alec. It was a man dressed in a trench coat and hat. Nezza didn't know why but her demigod instincts were telling her to keep her guard up as she stared at the man.
Isn't it a bit hot to wear so much clothes?
And the answer suddenly showed itself to her when the strange man lifted his head, revealing only one hungry-filled eye. She felt all the blood drain from her face as she slowly unsheathed her dagger with her free hand from her concealed waistband under her shirt. Her other hand squeezing Serena's shoulder in order to wake her up while her panicked eyes met with Alec's, praying to the gods that he understood her silent scream of "There's a monster in the train!?".

Alec frowned when he saw Serena drift off to sleep. Seriously? They were just starting the quest and she was already dozing off? He rolled his light blue eyes and shook his head. With the possibility of danger around them, he didn't feel like taking a nap at all.
He turned to look at Nezza who started a conversation with him. Feeling a smirk at what she said, he shrugged. "S'okay. I think I'd volunteer if you would've chosen someone else, honestly," he told her, chucking. "Where'd you get that impression?"
But he was aware of his reputation around camp. He was used to being alone, it calmed him. With no other company, it gave him lots of time to think. His thoughts would always drift to his family; how his siblings were now, and if they were being treated nicely by his parents. He never tried to reconcile with his parents, and by the looks of it, he wouldn't be doing it in the near future.
"Thank you, Nez," said Alec softly. "I'm glad you chose me," he admitted sheepishly, reaching into his gray and blue backpack to look for his iTouch. The trip was going to be long. He didn't want to spend the entire time being idle.
He was playing Temple Run when he noticed Nezza squeeze their fellow companion's shoulder from the corner of his eye. It caught his attention. Was there a monster on board?
He decided to shrug it off and continue his game. Maybe she just wanted someone else to talk to? But the look of alarm all over her face caught his attention. He glanced at his surroundings, trying to look as natural as possible, and that's when it caught his eye. The thing had one eye in the center of his forehead. He bolted to his feet, grabbing his backpack and flinging it over his shoulder.
"We're switching seats," he decided for them, looking over in the next cab where it was almost empty. Great. An arena for them to fight in. It was almost as if the gods were planning the whole thing and using them as some sort of entertainment. If a fight is what they want, they're gonna get so much more than they asked for.

SERENA VAILLE DAughter of Apollo
Serena woke from the moment Nezza squeezed her shoulder. Her eyes shot wide open and looked at Nezza and Alec. "What is it?" She asked in confusion. She followed their glances, finally realizing there was a monster on board. Ah...Just great, she thought. They hadn't even lasted an hour outside camp and these monsters are already hunting them down. Maybe it was because there were 3 halfbloods all in one place, and thier scents was just too inviting to resist.
She gathered her belongings and looked at the both of them for answers on what to do next. Sure they can probably fight him off, afterall he is just one monster. That would mean they would look like a bunch of children beating up an old man in a trench coat. She furrowed her eyebrows, knowing that they could probably get arrested for that.
She wore her grey sweater and put on her hoodie to cover her head and slung her bag over her shoulders as she stood up and made her way for the door to the other section of the train. She looked at the corner of her eye, seeing that the Cyclops in the trench coat was glaring at them, following each of their movements. She walked faster and clicked the door as quickly as she could because the Cyclops stood from his seat and started to follow them.
This guy was asking for a chase and he was going to get it. She waited for the rest of them to go in the next cab and locked the door behind her. "So guys. What's the game plan?" She asked. The cyclops tried to unlock the door quietly, but failed because he was making some srews fall off the mechanical door. She looked at both Nezza and Alec with her eyebrows raised, trying to keep her cool.

Nezza grabbed her bag from the seat before following Alec and Serena to another section of the train. She noticed from her peripheral vision that the cyclops was following them when they had stood and she quickened her pace more.
As they reached the cabin, Serena immediately locked it behind her but it'd only give them a few minutes of time before the monster would started barging it down. Her mind started to race with ideas of possible strategies to defeat it even before the daughter of Apollo asked for a game plan.
She looked up at the ceiling and the lights from above blearily blinked down upon her. Then she turned her head towards the carpeted floor and the set of arrows behind Serena's back. A plan started forming in her mind and her lips curled up into a smirk.
Nezza looked back towards the quickly damaging and opening door of the cabin before hurriedly telling her friends the plan. "Okay, guys. I need us to stay at the end of this cabin, hidden by the last seats there. Alec, I want you to freeze the floor the minute that thing gets in and Serena, ready that bow and arrow of yours when the beast falls. Got it?"
Nezza explained immediately while dragging them towards the opposite section of the room. She pushed them down towards the last seats, making sure that Serena took the one nearest to the isle so that she'd get a good shot of the monster.
She ignored the passengers in the room as she already thought of an idea to handle them. They wouldn't start panicking if they couldn't see the commotion that was about to happen in front of them and just her luck, she noticed through the window that they were about to go into a tunnel. The perfect opportunity for a little fight to begin between a cyclops and three demigods but instead of relying to the slight darkness inside the tunnel, Nezza decided to add some more of it.
The daughter of Nyx stood at the center of the isle, making sure that she was far away from the entrance as possible when the door finally looses its grip on the hinges and gave way. She spared the enraged one-eyed beast a smirk before she engulfed the whole cabin into pure darkness, save for the tiny light for Serena's eyes as they finally rode their way inside the tunnel.

The trio rushed into the nearly deserted train cab. Alec wondered what the mortals would see since the Mist would manipulate their sense of sight. Would they still see him shooting ice out of his palms or would it look like a bunch of rainbows were spewing from his hands? He shook his head, reprimanding himself silently. Now wasn't the time for jokes.
After Serena had locked the door, he stretched out his arm, palm facing the entryway, and immediately, the lock froze over. He wasn't sure if that was going to give them more time, but it was worth a shot.
By the look on Nezza's face, he knew that the clever daughter of Nyx already had a plan formulating in her head. He admired the fact that she was a natural leader at such a young age, something he never was. With the way she gave out orders, she could've persuaded him to go into battle without any weapons and be assured that he'd come out alive.
Alec ducked behind the seats, his head poking out from the side of the seat in front of him. The view was clear enough, giving him a perfect chance to turn the cool tiled floor into ice. He stole a glance at Serena, a way of telling himself that she's going to be safe.
His heart was hammering in his chest as he saw the cyclops struggling to open the door through the darkness. He could see the fire in the monster's eye through the window on the door. Alec felt his bottom lip tremble, the result of his nervousness. They're going to be okay, he assured himself. They're going to live.
He already had his palms on the ground when the cyclops stepped foot into the vehicle. It took a mere second for the floor to glaze over, shining like diamonds in the dark.
The monster lost its balance, a leg lifting off the ground as it plummeted toward the ground. He waited for Serena to do her task before coming out of his hiding spot to survey the damage done. The humans were oblivious to the small fight that happened right before their very eyes. The only remains of the monster were a pile of golden dust on the ground where the monster once stood.
Looking at the two fourteen year olds, checking to see if any damage has been done. His eyebrows knit together. If one monster was able to find them on this train, there's a huge chance that there will be more.
"We have to go."

SERENA VAILLE Daughter of Apollo
Serena nodded, informing Nezza that she perfectly understood the plan. She made her way to the isle where Alec and Nezza were as she reached for her bow, gripping it tightly. "Excuse me, Ma'am." Serena said politley. The senior citizen's eyes widened as she grabbed her Poodle away from her because she was equipped with a weapon. Serena followed her gaze, realizing why she looked so stunned. She wondered why this old lady could recognize her celestial bronze bow and arrows but then again, there were mortals who could see a lot better through the mist."I'm off to go to Archery class." She lied smoothly because she felt like a need to explain.
She stood up on the seat and crouched as she swiftly got an arrow from her back. She glanced outside the window, knowing that they were going to go under the tunnel any second now. Nerezza dimmed the train even more as it passed under, but it wasn't a trouble for Serena for she could see though the dark perfectly because of the light that Nezza left for her. The door for completely destroyed and the Cyclops walked forward but stumbled and slipped on the icy floor, making it slide funny.
The daughter of Apollo quickly released 3 arrows with ease, making sure the Cyclops was finished off. She smirked as the monster disintegrated into a dust of gold just seconds before the train had made it's way through the tunnel. She plopped down from the seat and looked back at the lady who was astonished by the sight of the broken door and some clothes on the floor. Serena shook her head, trying to suppress a laugh as she made up another excuse. "People these days, leaving their clothes on floors." She said aloud.
She skipped towards her friends as she folded her bow and fit it inside her bag. "I guess you're right." Serena replying to Alec. She didn't want to keep making up excuses in front of mortals by their sudden strange behavior and who knows who else were after them.
"There! The Emergency exit." Serena pointed as she suggested something that will probably seriously injure them. "Unless someone has an idea that's less suicidal?" She managed a nervous laugh.

Nezza released a breath she didn't she was holding in when the monster finally disintegrated into dust. She didn't know her plan would work and she was immensely pleased that it did. When she caught light at the end of the tunnel, she made sure that the lights in the room went back on just as they left it.
She nodded her head towards Alec's comment, wanting to get out of here as fast as possible. Who knows? Maybe that cyclops had friends.
Nezza was about to start thinking of an escape rout when Serena suddenly pointed out the emergency exit right behind them.
Well, that was convenient and very coincidental...
She blinked in surprise for a second before instantly going up to it, darkening the back row of the cabin in the process. She didn't want any mortals seeing a bunch of kids jumping out of the escape latch that would probably lead them to their deaths. But Nezza wasn't planning on dying anytime soon.
She opened it and felt the strong wind howling at them by the trains fast speed, ignoring Serena's suggestion of something less suicidal because it was either this or the window. And Nezza would rather jump from a train than get pierced by broken glass. It's a child-of-a-Nyx-thing; You wouldn't understand.
So with that, she looked at the outside world in front of them, noticing that they're in some kind of rural part of the state. She could see huge crops and fields across valleys and hills and a big stacks of hey quickly approaching them just around the corner.
Nezza, seeing it, brought another idea in her head and she quickly clasped her hands tightly with Alec and Serena's, both each on her side. She calculated the timing of the train's speed and their trajectory, hoping and praying to the gods that she'd get it right. After seeing her opportunity, she hopped off the edge of the cabin alongside her friends and felt as if she was flying, weightlessly in the air until the cruel gravity kicked in. They fell, hard and fast and before she knew it, she was landing right on the stack of hey, cushioning their descent to the ground.
Nezza had a few seconds to get her bearings on before she leaped out of the hey in joy. The rush of adrenaline still in her veins. Though before she could start walking about, she had to make sure if her companions were alright.
"Hey, guys. You alright? Sorry for dragging you guys into the jump but it was the only opportunity we had to fall on a safe landing." Nezza explained, smiling impishly at them before taking out some of the twigs that stuck on her long black hair and clothes. She looked around her surroundings and just as she thought, it was a farm. The daughter of Nyx then started trudging up to the barn, wondering if there'd be someone to ask for directions.

Alec felt a surge of adrenaline when Nezza opened the emergency exit. The landscape of the countryside was whizzing pass them. His eyes widened in realization when he understood perfectly what her intentions were. But before he could react, Nezza grabbed his hand and jumped off the train.
"Are you mad‽" he yelled as they flew through the air. The wind was strong enough that he was able to give himself a smooth landing by controlling the air around him. It was a gift from his mother. He knew he could levitate himself if the wind was blowing like crazy.
He dangled a few inches above the haystack until he realized the air was still. It caused the son of Khione to land flat on his face on the hay.
Alec quickly composed himself and stood up, dusting some straw off his jeans. He shook his head roughly, some twigs falling out of his dark hair.
"You're one wild girl, aren't you?" he threw a grin at Nezza, following her as she marched to the barn. 'What're you gonna do? Ask for some milk or cheese?" he joked lightly.

SERENA VAILLE Daughter of Apollo
Apparently the Emergency exit was the best plan they had because the window would just be too dangerous and they've already done some damage on this train. Nezza grabbed both Serena and Alec's hands and made a free fall out of the speeding public vehicle. Serena forgot to close her eyes as some dust particles got in them. She was surprised as they landed safely on a haystack.
Serena rubbed her eyes as she lay there just for a moment before getting back up to follow them. She dusted some pieces of debris from her clothes and hair as she examined the place. A farm...How cute. She silently thought to herself. It had rows of planted crops that glistened under the golden sun and some farm animals behind some fences.
Nezza and Alec were walking side by side, probably going to ask for directions. "Hey guys! Wait up." She called out but it looked like they couldn't hear her. Pursing her lips, she just quickened her pace to catch up with them until they came upon a big red barn. Serena crinkled her nose by the smell but didn't bother it when she saw some fluffy chickens. "Oh look! They're laying some eggs." She burst out laughing by the sight of this momma chicken trying to squeeze out an egg for the farmer to collect. She shut herself up as some old man in a plaid polo and denim suspenders walked up to them.
"Can I help ya folks?" The farmer asked while showering the animals with some corn feed. "Good afternoon, sir. Would you mind telling us where we are?" Serena asked.

Nezza laughed at Alec's joke, slapping his shoulder a bit as she was still hyper from the fall. It was a great wake-up call for the quest even though she wasn't even sleepy. It made all her feelings of distress and discomfort flow away and only leaving that pumped up energy to kill other monsters and foes that get in her way.
Strange...
She shoved away her thoughts for later speculation of her new behavior and focused on the farmer that was feeding some of his barn animals. Nezza crinkled her nose a bit, not liking the smell of horse poop and pig food combined together. She gave the country folk stranger a smile, hoping that it didn't come out as a grimace when Serena asked their location.
"Well, you're in ol' Pender, Nebraska, kids." The farmer replied with a toothy grin. He started tending to the chickens this time, grabbing a basket from a nearby stool and gathered all the eggs into it.
"Nebraska!? Ugh, we still gotta pass three other states before reaching California. I knew jumping off that train was too early, but it's not like we had a choice." Nezza exclaimed furiously, her good mood slipping away as she paced in front of her companions and the farmer.
She was thinking of ways to reach LA sooner, praying to her mom for support as it was almost nightfall when the farmer suddenly suggested something. "It looks like you fellas need a ride to this place you wanna go to. And I've just got the thing to solve your problems." He then walked towards a building of what looked like a garage and pulled off a gray sheet that revealed a big, red trunk.
"You kids looked lost when you I first saw yeh so I thought maybe you needed a ride. Now I know it's not much but ol' Sandy here can take you wherever you need her to go." The farmer said while tapping the hood of the vehicle fondly.
"But...it's your car. We don't want to burden you." Nezza said a bit torn if she should just accept it or not. She knew she needed to finish the quest as quickly as possible before more lives were taken but she just could't accept somebody helping them when they didn't even do anything to deserve it. She wondered what the others think about this as Nezza turned to look at them.

"Nebraska," Alec grumbled, shooting a glare at the farmer. He couldn't seem to trust this guy. He looked incredibly stupid with his goofy grin, missing front teeth, and rosy cheeks. Now that he thought of it, he looked like a cartoon that stepped out of a children's television show.
He nudged Nezza when she told the creepy farmer guy about being a burden. He gave her an incredulous look. They were being offered a free ride and she was going to turn it down like that? For crying out loud, they were in the middle of nowhere and had no source of transportation into the city!
But something seemed fishy. Who farmer would lend his only car to a bunch of teenagers? Looking at the Southern man, he gave him a dubious look. Nezza may be the one given the quest, but she was clearly too naive for handling business like this. She didn't have to be the one doing everything on the quest and he'd take the reins this time. "Name your price."
"Free of charge, just for ya'll younguns," the creepy farmer from hell grinned. "I'll even drive you there myself."
Alec was about to accept the offer, but he noticed the evil glint in his eye when he eyed his two companions suggestively. "No thanks. I'm sure we'll be able to make it there ourselves."
Placing a hand on each of the girls' backs, he steered them in another direction away from the redneck. "We're not hitching a ride from that psycho," he whispered to them sharply.
"I insist. I bet you yankees couldn't make it out of this state alive," said the farmer as he followed the young demigods. When he gripped Serena's wrist, Alec saw red.
"Don't you dare lay a finger on her," he warned him darkly.
"Or what?" the farmer taunted, looking at the seventeen year old like he was a joke.
Alec's light blue eyes shone in the darkness. He felt his hand twitch before he sent a gust of wind to blow the farmer back. To finish him up, he used his powers to freeze him in a block of ice. He knew that he shouldn't have done that, but the stupid guy tested his patience. Whatever. The ice would melt the next morning anyway.
Giving the frozen farmer a menacing look, Alec grunted before walking away from the scene and to the empty road ahead of them.

Serena wasn't paying much attention as Nezza and Alec conversed with the farmer. He looked awfully nice but it creeped her out as he would occasionally glance at her. She looked away and suddenly became very interested with the chickens realizing she shouldn't have worn shorts.
She silently watched the farm animals eat their lunch, smiling at them for a bit until Alec's voice turned icy towards the man. She averted her gaze towards them, Quite a generous man we have here... she thought to herself. There was something peculiar about him, judging by the way lust burned through his eyes. She figured that they would have to pass for his offer. Then again that would mean walking without knowing where'd they would go. They'd probably come upon a gas station if they were lucky but it seemed like they were in the middle of nowhere.
"I insist. I bet you yankees couldn't make it out of this state alive," the farmer pressed. This man doesn't know that he's facing a bunch of teenagers who practically had gods for parents. She shook her head. "I don't think that'd be necessary, sir."
They were about to make their way out of the barn until Serena felt a tight grip around her wrist. She glared at him as she felt a burning sensation come from his hands. "Please let go of me." She said rather calmly right after Alec's remark. "Or what?" The old man taunted.
The next thing Serena knew, the beer bellied farmer was frozen in a block of ice with an ugly expression on his face. She followed Alec and Nezza while she tagged along behind, rubbing her wrist as though it felt like it was burned. "Where to?" Serena asked but realized that was a stupid question to ask because obviously they don't know where this deserted road would lead to. "Oh hey, Alec, don't you have an iTouch? Do you think we can probably use Google Maps if you have some signal?"

Nezza stared wide-eyed at the now frozen farmer who doesn't look that friendly anymore as he did moments ago. She didn't think that the old man would have probably been mean or a pervert but it seems like she forgot looks could be deceiving as well. She sighed to herself as she walked side by side with Alec on the now empty rode, feeling a bit disappointed that she didn't figure it out when her friends got to see right through his act instantly.
If it wasn't for Alec, who knew what would have happened with that farmer. Well, obviously they'd have kicked his butt easily but what happens next time if he was a monster instead of a pervert. She would have put her companions in danger.
Ugh, I'm so stupid....
Nezza figured that she needed to thank Alec for taking care of that mean old farmer so she grabbed his arm and rested her head on his shoulder, halting his steps. "Thanks for...uh...defending us back there. I was too naive to see through his facade so...sorry, again." She apologized to Alec softly in his ear, too embarrassed to say it out loud with Serena around.
Nezza let go of him when said girl told Alec to use the Google map on his iTouch. Then a thought suddenly crossed her mind. How were they suppose to get out of here without a ride? She looked towards the place where the red truck still stood and an evil smirk formed on her lips.
"While you guys look for our location in the map, I'll go get our ride." With a wink, she ran back to the barn, sticking out her tongue on the block of ice in the process. She opened the trunks front door and was relieved to see the car keys already on the ignition, although the inside of the car wasn't really much of a thing to be relieved about. She could only think of one word to desribe it.
Messy
Ignoring the dirt all around her, she twisting the keys and immediately, the car came to life and she closed the door. "Okay, lets see. What do we have here?"
Nezza didn't know a thing about driving so she's relying on the mounds of movie marathons she had that involved lots of cars in it. She carefully pressed her foot on the right pedal and instantly the truck moved forward with a loud "vrhoom!"
After a few tries, Nezza started getting the hang of using the pedal...well that is, when she suddenly smashed the fences that separated the farm and the street as she tried getting it on the rode.
"Move out of the way!" Nezza yelled as the truck was suddenly speeding its way towards her friends at a fast pace. She was terrified as hell, and her hands were gripping the wheel that her kuckles started turning white. She prayed to the gods especially her mom like crazy as she chanted under hear breath repeatedly"stop".
The daughter of Nyx instantly regretted ever trying to drive this deranged, excuse-for-a-truck crap!

Alec was surprised when he was grabbed by the arm. He felt the soft whisper of his friend tickle his ear. He gave Nezza a small smile, although he wasn't sure if she would be able to see it since she was leaning on his shoulder. "It's fine, sis. I'm always gonna look out for you no matter what," he said in a hushed tone.
His head whipped around to face Serena. When she mentioned something about his iTouch, he grabbed it from his backpack's pocket and tossing it to her. "It's in there. I'm not that good with directions," he revealed, walking towards her.
As his brunette friend toyed around with his gadget, he noticed something in the dark: on her wrist were red marks where the farmer's hand had clenched it. Immediately, he grabbed her arm to survey the damage. "Crap. Are you okay?"
He frowned as he traced the outline of the wound. Slowly, he felt his temperature decrease as his temperature served as a substitution for an ice pack. He snorted mentally. Just call him the walking ice berg.
But the sound of a car's engine roar interrupted their little moment. He could see the headlights of a beat-up red truck approach and Nezza was behind the wheel.
Alec wrapped his arm around Serena's waist and he jumped to the side to avoid the vehicle. They felt off to the side and on to a patch of grass, but he stood up and pulled Serena along with him. He shot her a look before making a run for the car.
"Hit on the brake!" he yelled, almost a few feet from the car's trunk. "It's the pedal on the left! Brake!"

Serena raised her eyebrows when Nezza suddenly grabbed Alec's arm as she whispered something into his ear. Obviously she didn't know what she said because it was too inaudible to hear but shrugged it off. Then suddenly, a realization came to her mind. Was Alec the mystery guy of Nezza that she refused to tell me in the Arts and Crafts? Serena thought to herself. Ever since they've left camp, she noticed that they were really close. Always walking side by side and all, while she just walked behind. She caught herself slightly frowning as she felt her heart suddenly feel heavier. Why was that? Nezza told both of them that she'll just get them their ride. Turns out we are stealing the old man's car after all.
Alec walked towards her and handed her the iTouch. "Thanks." She said, returning to her usual cheerful self. Luckily there was some signal here and she started to search for some directions and waited for the image to load but was interrupted when Alec suddenly grabbed her hand. "Crap. Are you okay?" He asked in concern. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion until she realized that the grasp of the farmer was evident on her wrist. "Yeah, I am. It's not that bad." Serena replied, grinning.
It surprised her when his hand suddenly turned cold. She knew what he was doing, trying to cool her hand and it helped. "Oh dude, thanks." Serena said with a mild blush creeping to her cheeks. Then, all of a sudden, a deafening sound of an engine came to life as a red truck destroyed the fences of the old barnyard. It all happened too fast as Alec wrapped his arm around her waist to avoid the uncontrollable vehicle. They landed on a soft patch of grass before he pulled her back up. "Is that Nezza?!"
Serena ran to her bag from where it fell not to long ago as she retrieved her bow and arrows. As Alec yelled at Nezza to hit the brake, Serena ran towards the old beat up truck and kept a safe distance from it. She was hoping that this truck wasn't a 4x4 or else she'd have to shoot all 4 tires. She composed herself as she tried to concentrate, releasing an arrow on the first tire and another on the other side. As the arrows pierced it, the car slowed into small circles, eventually stopping it.
She was all shaky before she dropped her weapons and ran to the vehicle to see if Nezza was alright. When she arrived on the passenger seat, she removed some grass and hay on Nezza's hair before reprimanding her. "Oh gods...Are you alright?! You should've waited for us!" Serena said with irritation and concern. She ripped the key from the ignition as she threw it to Alec. "You're driving!" She realized that she just gave the car two flat tires and now they had to hunt for some spares. "Okay, I'm going to look for some tires and supplies before we go on." Serena said. "Nez, wanna help me gather? Alec can probably change the tires." She looked over him for an answer.

"What in Hades do you mean break?" Nezza yelled back, the roar of the engine making it hard to hear what Alec was trying to shout at her. Why would he want her to break the truck? It was the only thing that could get them out of here. "I can't break a truck!" She was able to exclaim before she felt the front of the truck go down as its tires went flat.
Nezza would have bumped her head on the window glass if she hadn't remembered to put on her seat belt. The truck finally came to stop and she just sat there motionless as she stared wide eyed at the steering wheel in front of her.
I am never driving again...
She mentally vowed to herself as she finally released the tight grip she had on it, her hands aching for holding on too long. Serena then suddenly opened the truck's door, opposite from Nezza's and started scolding her for such a stunt whilst taking out the sticks that suddenly stuck to her black hair. Nezza blushed, embarrassed for what she did and making her friends concern for her well-being.
She nodded her head to help get the tires with Serena and jumped out of the big truck, her legs shaking a bit as she landed. Nezza thought she must have been sitting too tensed when she was driving the damn thing but it's not like she could help it. She shook her legs a bit to regain its strength and started running towards the garage to get the tires.
But before she started lifting any tires, Nezza hugged Serena tightly, expressing her gratitude for saving her. She kept chanting "Thank you's" to the blonde-streaked demigod and other stuff like "I'll make it up to you , I promise!". Then she let go of her, scared that she might suffocate her archer friend and started picking up the tires. With the help of Serena, they were able to carry the huge wheels back to Alec.

Alec saw arrows whizzing past him and looked back to see Serena shooting a bunch of them at the tires. Her aiming was impeccable as they shot straight to the tires which flattened immediately. He watched in terror as the truck spun in circles before stopping. He sprinted to the vehicle, but Serena made it first. The two girls shared a hug before Alec grabbed the daughter of Nyx and wrapped his arms around her small figure in a bear hug.
"Nez! Don't scare me like that," he exclaimed. "I don't know what I would've done to myself if something happened to you."
He patted the top of her head, trying to flatten out all the hair sticking up. He couldn't afford to lose his best friend at the start of the quest. He didn't even want to think about it.
When Serena tossed him the keys, he caught it without effort. His baseball skills really came in handy sometimes. He nodded in agreement. "Yeah. There's no way in the Underworld that I'm gonna let any of you two drive. Besides, you guys aren't even sixteen yet."
When the girls went back to the barn to look for some replacements, Alec surveyed the flat tires. Plucking out the arrows that the daughter of Apollo had shot, he knew that he wasn't going to have a hard time since he was experienced with cars. The two returned, the tires in their arms and he grabbed a hold of them and set it next to the car. He dug around the back of the car for a tool box and found one laying in the backseat of the car.
He shrugged his shirt off, not wanting to get it dirty in the process, revealing his torso that he constantly kept in shape by going to the gym and playing baseball. "Here," he muttered, handing the grey tee to Serena, then proceeded to work on the car.
He loosened the wheel bolts, then raised the car with the car jack. He continued to unbolt the nuts the rest of the way then pulled out the tire, throwing it to the side of the road, and kicked the tire. He put the replacement tire and secured it with bolts, screwing it with the tire iron to hold it in place. He did it with the other flat before lowering the car then tightening the wheel bolt.
"Finished," he told them triumphantly, out of breath. He got his shirt back from Serena and looked inside his bag for a towel to wipe his forehead with. He slipped his shirt back on, then hopped inside the truck, inserting the key into the ignition, throwing his backpack in the back seat.
"Where to, ladies?"

Serena hugged Nezza back tightly. "It's okay, really it is Nez. You don't have to do anything, just be careful next time." She said with her lips curling up into a smile. She didn't want to think about it if they've lost a companion on just the first day on the job. She helped lift the tires back to Alec so that they could finally get away from this barn. Serena gathered her things and dug in her pocket where Alec's iTouch has been safely stored. It looked like there was an easy route they had to take for a highway to California. She shrugged to herself, there really was a highway to Hell.
"Hey guys!-" Serena called out but was cut short when she saw Alec take off his shirt. She inhaled sharply and looked away politely. I don't think it's that necessary to remove your shirt when you're just changing a couple of tires...She silently thought to herself. She took another deep breath as she looked down on her feet, feeling another blush rush to her cheeks. Alec handed Serena his grey tee as he started to work on changing the tires. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, okay was she a clothes hanger now? She sighed as she looked away from Nezza's direction now, not wanting to see her expression on this.
Though she wasn't looking at any of her friends now, she could still vividly remembered the structure of Alec's body. His abdomen was perfectly toned, showing off his abs and his bare arms had cuts on them, perfectly sculpted. To sum it all up, he had the body of a chiseled male model. Serena did a face palm as she tried to get over it. She let out a sigh as she ran her fingers through her messy hair. "You done yet?"
Finally, after a few minutes on holding onto the boy's clothes, he finished his handywork and got his shirt from Serena again. "You're welcome." Serena grumbled. "Where to, ladies?" Alec asked, fully clothed this time. "There's a highway to California that we can take. It's not far from here, just go far off North." Serena replied, able to look at him in the eye again. She tossed her bag up the truck as she climbed onto it, taking the back seat. "Let's go to Hollywood baby!" Serena laughed, holding her hands up high in the air with her aviators on her face.
It took them several hours before they reached Los Angeles. They made few stops for drive through to get a couple of burgers and some drinks to rehydrate. Serena slept in between the trip, feeling a bit sorry for Alec knowing that he was going to drive the whole time. It couldn't be helped because they didn't want to re-enact the situation awhile ago. She woke up with the night lights blinding her. She looked around, tying her hair again. Palm trees, Lamborghinis, Designer clothing, oh and the gigantic sign that says 'Hollywood'. Yes, they were definitely in L.A. Her eyes widened with the beautiful scenery of the beach. "Wow..."Serena trailed off. "Okay guys, how can we find the Underworld here? I'm perfectly sure Google Maps doesn't have it online." She asked with another laugh escaping her lips. Speaking of Google, Serena dug into her short's pockets again to return Alec's iTouch. "Oh dude, here ya go."

Nezza stared irritated at Alec who is now putting the tires onto the truck without wearing a shirt on. Sure, he had a nice chest and all but was it really necessary to do that in front of her and Serena. Poor girl, the archer demigod couldn't even look at him while he was fixing.
But the thing that actually annoyed her was that whenever she looked at Alec, Nezza would briefly remember another demigod who was also shirtless in her presence before. She couldn't help the blush that would creep up to her cheeks as the picture of his upper body would pop up in her mind.
Stop thinking about him!
She shook her head a bit to rid her of these thoughts. Nezza couldn't get distracted right now, especially on a quest. She was, thankfully, pulled out from her thoughts when Alec announced he was done and she ran towards the front passenger's seat before anyone could take it. After everyone was finally buckled in, they started their long journey towards California.
Nezza couldn't help but be bored to death during the ride there. She tried turning on the radio for some music but it was a futile attempt as it was too old and broken. Then she started fiddling the stuff around her seat, looking and throwing away anything that looked disgusting which was mostly everything she saw. A half-finished corn, a worn out, muddy boot and lots and lots of hey and twigs were some of the few things she could identify as some of the other stuff were just plain unrecognizable. Nezza didn't even feel like she wanted to know half the things she's found tonight.
Speaking of night, it was already dark out and Nezza peered out of her window to stare at the nearly full moon, Lady Artemis' domain. She smiled a bit as the nighttime breeze made her feel stronger somehow and comfortable inside and she knew that it was her mother, Nyx looking after her on this perilous quest.
Nezza figured that falling asleep could probably help pass the time just like Serena but she didn't want Alec to face the long hours alone. She wasn't even that tired anyway and she wanted to be awake just in case some monsters suddenly attacked them out of nowhere. She instead thought of starting a conversation with him so that at the same time he wouldn't fall asleep on her watch.
"Hey Alec, you feel tired yet? When you do, you know you could always ask me to drive." Nezza started off jokingly with a smile, thinking that maybe making him laugh would relieve some stress from driving so long. She then felt a sudden sense of deja vu of their actions and a laugh escaped her lips before muffling it with a hand so as to not wake Serena up.
"I just realized something. Our positions from the train are just the same as they are now." Nezza explained herself giddily as she remembered earlier this afternoon of Alec and her talking while Serena sleeping on the ride that was going the same direction as now. "Although I wouldn't want it to have similar endings, if you know what I mean." She grumbled, still bitter about the fact a monster tracked them down so fast before they had even reached L.A.
After what felt like hours which Nezza bet it was if the soreness in her butt didn't prove it, they finally reached California. It was a beautiful sight with its luxurious buildings, tall palm trees and fashionable people that she drank in every detail of the place as it was her first time ever going out aside from her journey to Camp Halfblood.
Hearing Serena's question who was suddenly awake, Nezza pulled out a small sheet of paper from her pocket. She unfolded it and the directions to the Underworld was revealed to her as Chiron had so kindly given it when she asked. "Okay, It's at DOA Recording Studios which is all the way up there." She pointed up to one of the many mountains in L.A. where they could see a small building with a large antennae from a far.
"Looks like we need to cover more ground. Alec, do you think you could still drive us there? We could rest for a while if you want." Nezza asked concernedly, putting a hand on his shoulder to show her support for any of his decisions. She didn't wanting Alec to tire himself for driving all night. Sure, they had some stops to eat and drink but most of the time he was behind that wheel, taking us to the state without any complaints.
