The way to the stables was boring, as Simon had expected it to be. He kicked a few rocks here and there just for something to do. It was really odd how he was becoming more bored every passing day. He was already beginning to regret his decision to be a year-rounder. What had made him even do something like that?

Simon then suddenly kicked one of the stray rocks hard enough. The rock flew across the air, hitting one of the horses on its head. Simon stopped in his tracks, freezing into place as the horse angrily turned to him. The horse, which was pure white in color, reared and it seemed that it wanted to charge at Simon if it weren't for the fence surrounding it. Thinking that he was safe, Simon let out a sigh of relief and continued walking, when the horse suddenly jumped over the fence and began galloping towards him at top speed.

Then of course, Simon saw no other option but to run for his life.

Amber was walking toward the stables holding a fruit with a spring in her step. It has been a long time since I've ridden, she thought. I'll see if Snowflake is there, perhaps I'll give her this apple since she 's been getting tamer.

When suddenly, a boy dashed past her, nearly knocking her down in the process. What surprised her even more, was the horse that was pursuing him. Wait, isn't that Snowflake? In seconds, she grasped the outline of the situation. He must have provoked her in some way, not knowing about her wild temper. Snowflake was fast, and strong. If she caught him... Well, Amber wouldn't even want to think of the results.

In a flash, she sprinted after the horse and leapt onto its back. She nearly got jolted off, and had to struggle grab onto the reins. It was lucky that she was good at riding, and that it hadn't reached full speed yet - for any lesser rider would have fallen off. In fact, they wouldn't have been able to get onto Snowflake at all.

Simon hadn't always been the type of kid who was built for running. As such, he immediately felt tired despite the short amount of time he had run. He could feel himself slowing down, but Simon pushed himself to go faster. That horse was scary as hell.

Speaking of the horse, Simon wondered how it was doing. He sneaked a glance behind him and did a double-take. How did the horse get a rider all of a sudden? Simon then realized that the rider was familiar. His half-sister Amber in fact. He felt elated all of a sudden. Maybe now he was no longer doomed.

"As much as I want to stop and say 'hi,' I don't think I can with your horse trying to kill me!" Simon shouted as he ran with the wind, hoping against all odds that Amber had heard him.

She had a hard time keeping on the horse as it is, but she did hear him. She took a moment to register the words he yelled.

He sounds familiar... Is he my half-brother Simon? What on earth did he do to infuriate Snowflake? She thought. Then snapped back to reality as Snowflake bucked and tried to throw her off. She then pulled on the reins, crooning to the horse, trying to calm it down. It must have worked, for it slowed down some, and whinnied, forgetting about pursuing Simon.

Are you kidding me? If it weren't for my friend from the Demeter cabin, who found it from the
forest and insisted in dragging it back to camp, I'd have left it where it was. Its temper needed reckoning. But Amber did harbor sentimental feelings for the animal after some time.

It was only a matter of time when Simon stumbled and tripped, landing face-first on the ground. He braced himself for the trampling hooves that was sure to come, but a few moments passed and the horse hadn't stomped on him yet. Simon pushed himself up, wiping his face with his sleeve as he turned his attention to Amber and the horse. Thank the gods his sibling was talented with horses.

"Thanks," Simon gasped out. He was tired, but he was all smiles at Amber who had just technically saved his life. "Who knew horses could be so scary?"

Simon staggered, not quite regaining his balance. "I owe you my life, Amber!" he called, his voice a little louder now but still strained as he struggled to stand on his feet.

Now that things had calmed down, she could spare a moment to look up at Simon. She grinned, and gave him a thumbs up. But before asking him what he did, she wanted to check if he was okay.

"Are you alright?" Amber called out, a little worried, looking at her half-brother. He seemed overcome with fatigue, but other than that, no injuries.

However, calling out to him was her mistake. Snowflake stumbled over a rock in surprise and the shock set her off galloping at full speed again. Amber bit back a yelp and grabbed for the reins. She missed by an inch.

Too late, was her last thought, before being jerked off and falling out of the saddle.

Simon never got the chance to finish the sentence as the horse once again launched into full speed. His eyes caught the outline of Amber nearly falling and without a second thought, Simon made a catching motion with his hands. The magic he summoned cushioned Amber in time, but only barely. She was still about a foot from the ground when Simon totally gave way to exhaustion, his magic disappearing and so letting Amber fall the remaining one foot to the ground. Simon collapsed on all fours in ragged breaths. He had never been so tired in his life.

Amber had her eyes shut tightly, awaiting the impact of the hard ground, when something stopped her mid-air for a few seconds, before disappearing and letting her fall about a foot to the ground. She rolled to her feet and saw Simon a few metres away. Must have been him.

"Thanks!" She called out again, then her eyes widened and she rushed towards him. "You okay?"

She placed her hand on his shoulder and willed magic to flow through to him, bolstering his energy and replenishing a little of his magic. There, that should do it. She sat down to catch her breath, as her vision fogged momentarily and focused again as her strength returned.

It seemed like a warm ripple passed through Simon's body, gifting him with a little more energy to spare. With his newfound strength, Simon rolled over to a lying position, looking up at Amber's concerned face. Smiling, Simon nodded at her.

"Thanks, sis," he said gratefully, giving her a thumbs up. He wasn't going to stop owing her, was he? Not that he minded though. Simon's eyes then took an anxious edge to it as he studied her closely. "And you? Feeling alright there?"

"Yeah, I'm pretty okay. You owe me one." Amber replied grinning, moving closer so she wouldn't have to talk so loudly. She folded her legs to the side - her favourite manner of sitting.

"What happened?" she asked curiously.

Simon clutched the back of his head--it just started pounding for some reason. Probably due to being exhausted both physically and magically, despite being slightly strengthened by Amber's magic. Sitting up, Simon shook his head vigorously to try and get rid of the pain. It didn't really work.

"One of the rocks I kicked flew straight at your horse's head," Simon explained simply, managing a weak smile. He raised his hands up in surrender. "I swear, I didn't mean it. It just kind of happened."

"Well, at least you won't do that again... right?" Amber confirmed uncertainly, then noticed his sudden movement. She looked at him carefully.

"Seriously Simon, are you sure you're okay? You don't have to go to the infirmary, do you?"

Simon looked up at Amber with innocent eyes when she told (or asked, if that was the proper term) him not to do it again. "Maaaaybe..?" he said, drawing out the 'a' sound. "And seriously, Amber, I'm okay. Not the one who fell off a horse here."

He grinned, showing that he was really fine. Just tired, but not tired enough to be admitted in the infirmary. "That's your horse over there, right?" he asked, motioning to the small horse-shaped figure in the distance.

Amber raised an eyebrow skeptically, then decided to let the topic go.

"Nope. It's my friend's. Athena cabin. She found it in the forest out of camp as a foal, then insisted in bringing it back. " Amber replied, grimacing. "It has a terrible temper, and would do anything for strawberries and apples. I'm more fond of that ebony over there."

She gestured to a jet-black pegasus with a white hind-leg grazing at the stables.

Simon looked in the direction Amber motioned to, only to have a beautiful sight meet his eyes. He wasn't really a big fan of horses or pegasi, but this one was really eye-catching. The pegasus' sleek black fur seemed to glimmer slightly in the sunlight, making it look rather impressive and something that seemed to come out from one of those children's fairytale books. Gaping, Simon stood up and slowly made his way towards the pegasus.

"Gorgeous. Just gorgeous," he commented with a slight nod, placing both hands on his waist. "Don't worry. I'm not planning on hitting this one with a rock," he joked, throwing a glance at Amber.

Simon watched the grazing pegasus for a while. "So what's its name?"

"You'd better not." Amber said, sticking out her tongue at him. "Or you'll have me to reckon with."

She got up and leaned against a nearby tree. "Hmm... I don't know. Haven't thought of one yet. Maybe you'd like to suggest one?"

Simon laughed as he shifted his attention back to the pegasus. He was lousy at giving names. He would probably say something simple and common like...

"Blacky? I dunno," Simon suggested, chortling slightly as he did. It sounded like a name someone would give their pet dog, or maybe it was too uncreative even for that.

"I'm lousy at names. I'll probably name my future son Simon Junior. Very creative, right?" Simon said with a trace of a laugh.

"Blacky? Are you kidding me?" Amber asked in disbelief. Of all names, Blacky was the last thing on her mind. "You might as well name her 'mare' or something."

Upon hearing his next comment, she let out an amused laugh. "Very creative."

Then she looked around for the white horse. Where did Snowflake go? Then another memory resurfaced and a thought struck her. She froze. Not to the strawberry fields, surely. She pushed down her rising panic, forcing herself to think calmly.

Grinning, Simon scratched the back of his head. "Er... Black Mare?" He shrugged that off immediately. Okay, that sounded real worse than Blacky.

Simon's grin faded into a confused frown as Amber tensed. Was it something he said? Was she offended by Blacky or what? Simon watched her for a few moments before finally asking, "Hey, what's with the panicked face?"

"I.. It's Snowflake. "Amber replied uncertainly.

"I think she may have gone to the strawberry fields." she groaned, a feeling of dread washing over her.

She's gonna go on a rampage. Dionysus would not be amused the least. At all.

Simon tilted his head to the side in mild confusion. What was wrong with the horse going to the strawberry fields? Unless it had an obsession with strawberries of something of that sort, Simon failed to see what Amber was so worried about. But then, he didn't know that horse as well as Amber did. Maybe it did have an obsession with strawberries. Well, whatever it was, Simon could tell from Amber's face that it was a big problem.

"Then let's go and see," Simon said, clapping Amber on the shoulder before starting a brisk walk to the fields.

Amber snapped out of her trance and followed Simon, explaining, "Snowflake really likes strawberries. But the thing is, she's a little allergic to them. Small amounts are okay, but let's say she had a whole field of them... Well, the after-effects wouldn't be very favourable."

She shuddered, remembering the time where Snowflake got access to the field somehow, and ate a vast amount of the red and juicy berries. However, affected by her allergy, she trampled over flowerbeds and crushed bushes with her powerful hooves. By the time she was stopped, she had already thrashed almost a quarter of the entire vegetation, not to mention eaten some too.

We must reach there before she does. She must already have a head-start, realised Amber. Then making a sudden decision, she grabbed Simon's arm and pulled him back towards the stables.

While walking, she dropped her plan, "We'll catch her by horse."

"Wait, what?"

Simon had some experience in horse-riding before, but it wasn't really enjoyable, at least in his opinion. The feeling of bouncing up and down on the saddle was something he didn't find comfortable. Simon preferred a smooth ride on the motorcycle. But before he could say anything about that, Amber had already pulled him back to the stables.

"Just so you know, I suck at this," Simon admitted, raising his hands up in the air in a surrendering motion. He stopped right in front of a few horses, which had turned to face him curiously. "Er... nice horsies... Simon's not going to hurt you... Er... Amber, so you're suggesting that I ride any of the random horses in here?"

Simon hoped it wasn't what she had in mind. What if there was a repeat of the incident with him and Snowflake where said horse almost trampled him? Not an experience he'd like to repeat.

"Of course! However are we supposed to catch Snowflake if we don't? Come on, it's not really that hard." Amber persuaded, hiding a grin at Simon's aghast expression and the way he talked to the horse.

She unlocked the gate of a nearby horse stable and let a greyish-bay out. "This one should be quite mild. It even has a saddle on already." She said briskly before unlocking another random one and leading a chestnut horse out, then hoisting herself up on the bare back of the animal. Not saddled, I suppose I'll have to make do with this one.

Simon watched the grey horse warily. Was Amber really sure about this? Cautiously he approached the still horse. He tentatively reached out a hand to pat its snout. The horse leaned in closer to his touch, bringing a smile to Simon's face. Hey, not bad.

Without another word, Simon hoisted himself up on the horse. Beginning to play with the reigns, he turned to Amber to see how she was doing when he realized that she wasn't sitting on any saddle at all. That got him a little worried. "You sure you're alright with that?"

Simon had still been playing on the reigns when he spoke, and that was when he accidentally gave a large tug. The horse reared, launching into a fast gallop. Caught off-guard, Simon tightened his grip on the reigns, praying to the gods that he won't fall. "I meant to do that!" Simon called to Amber, trying to yell the words through the sound of the wind whipping at his face.
