KATHRYN DE BRÙN

How beautifully intoxicating the atmosphere of a nightclub was. Maybe she was addicted to the feeling. Maybe she was just desperate to get out of Camp Half-Blood. Maybe there wasn't an ulterior motive or a particular reason and she was just there to enjoy herself. Who knew? Whatever the reason was, she'd ended up in the same place she always seemed to end up in on the weekend.

Dressed in a short white dress with a worn, comfortable leather jacket over it, she was the picture of grace as she walked confidentially in her high heels through the crowd of nightclub-goers. Kathryn had been here more times than she could remember at this point, so she knew the way through the building that didn't put her in with the majority of the crowds. Like if she stuck close to the bar, she'd get around the room quicker than if she tried going by the wall. Mainly because girls stuck close to the wall, leaning against it flirtatiously as they batted their eyelashes at guys. Course, she was doing her fair share of eyelash batting, but she wasn't here for guys. That wasn't how she rolled. She was here for dancing, for some drinks, some talking with old friends. Maybe some flirting, and maybe a little making out. But they weren't going to occupy the majority of her evening.

A black clad bouncer caught her eye as she walked up the mirrored steps at the back of the main room in the club, walking over to her purposefully. But there was a kind-hearted smile on his face, not one you'd expect to find on a guy who knew there was an underage girl walking around in a nightclub.

'Shoulda known we were gonna be seeing you sooner or later, Kitty,' he stopped in front of her, arms crossed across his chest, 'Been a long time since I've seen you. Where've you been?'

Throwing some of her hair over her shoulder, Kitty grinned. Oh how she loved this. It was always a new thrill when she walked in here, knowing that unlike everyone else she wasn't going to get kicked out. That was what happened when you made friends with the owner of the establishment. See, when she'd gotten off the plane from Ireland only a couple years before, she'd been a bit stuck. Not able to pay for a taxi. A young, pretty businesswoman had helped her in her hour of need, and months later when she was settled she made the trip to New York City to pay the woman back. From there, it was a strange but fast friendship. The woman in question was opening a nightclub, and eventually, Kitty had started to frequent it. The bouncers all knew her, the manager knew her, everyone knew not to kick her out... it was a great sort of arrangement. Better than trying to sneak into the local pubs in Ireland and being kicked out almost straight away. Even better than the one time they dragged her to her Nan's house to let the old woman know exactly what her young granddaughter had been up too.

'I've been coming down here like normal. You're the one who seemed to disappear, Leo,' she frowned a little at him, charging ahead before he could reply, 'Is Nessa around?'

The guy nodded, gesturing towards the door of the smoking room to the left of them.

'She's in there. But, she's got some executives down or something to discuss shares in the business, so she said to tell you that she'll find you when she's done.'

Hmph. Kitty shrugged, her mouth downturned now. But, it was like that sometimes. If she waited around, Nessa would find her. And then they'd have a few rounds of a drinking game or something, and go dance.

'Tell her she'll probably find me on the dance floor, ok?'

----- LATER -----

It had definitely been a calm before the storm earlier in the night. Kitty stood off to one side, near the bathrooms, surveying the room below her. More people had crowded in throughout the last few hours, but it didn't seem like anyone had left. Now she needed to shout to be heard over all the voices. She was gonna be hoarse by the morning, ugh.

Downing the drink in the glass she clutched in her hands, she turned to walk down the corridor to her right, where there was an exit to the streets if she took a couple lefts. She needed the air. But, something caught her eye, and she turned around to face the room again.

A guy. A guy who looked sort of bewildered. A very hot guy who looked sort of bewildered.

'Are you lost?' she shouted over the crowd, carefully walking towards him on her heels, grinning widely.

So. Maybe she didn't need some air. Her night was definitely starting to look up.

'It happens more than you think, you know. People come in, get distracted by the strobe lights. Want me to show you the way out?'

Andrew Taylor Ryland
Son of Hemera

The atmosphere of the nightclub was smothering him. The heavy bass, reverberating through the wall he was leaning against, the feeling that there were just people in the other room, packed together with no room to breathe. He could nearly smell the alcoholics in there, and he could definitely hear the catcalls over the booming music. Andrew ran a hand through his hair nervously. He drank too, of course, but he never got dependent or addicted. It was for holidays and special occasions. Besides, his hangovers were always awful, and they set him on edge. Like he was now. He shouldn’t have chosen a nightclub to ask for help, all he would find were drunkards and overly excited girls. But it was late, and he was too new in this part of the city to know anything, so he’d slipped into the nearest lit building. Which happened to be a nightclub.
He tugged his leather jacket tighter around his body. A bit of the pastel blue shirt he wore underneath poked out from underneath, covering the pockets of his ragged jeans. He pulled the hood of his jacket over his blond hair, trying to seem inconspicuous as possible. He was getting nervous. He tapped a beat onto his thigh, trying to build up the courage to look for a bouncer, someone who could lead him out into the open, friendly city. Possibly lead him to his dad’s new apartment, which he had the address for, but had no idea where it was in relation to the nightclub. He took out the slip of paper, crumpled from its time in his jacket pocket, and read his father’s careful and neat handwriting. 1376, Grove Pass-. The last bit got smudged. He sighed. I’ll give you three, Andrew. Three and you’re up. One, two-.
“Are you lost?'
He turned and looked, his face etched with bemusement. A girl, probably around his age, but a head shorter, but she made up for it with pure attitude. He could see it in the way she sauntered over, and languid but set expression on her face, and just the intensity in her voice.
”It happens more than you think, you know. People come in, get distracted by the strobe lights. Want me to show you the way out?”
He let a breath he didn’t know he was holding, and pushed back his hood, facing her. Despite the way her gaze fell on him, he let a smile unfurl on his face. “Yeah,” he exhaled. “Yeah, I’d really like that.”

KATHRYN DE BRÙN

Honestly, Kitty didn't make a habit of walking up to hot guys in the nightclub. Not that she didn't make a habit of it everywhere else, but the nightclub wasn't her favorite place to flirt. Given the fact she'd known the bouncers and Nessa for what felt like forever, it was the same as if she was flirting in a room with her Nan in it... awkward. So really, she just danced. With whoever sauntered her way, usually. Sometimes Nessa, sometimes friends, sometimes complete strangers who she'd never set eyes on before. But she never stuck around to have a nice little chat. It was a dance, move along sort of deal.

But, this was a special case. Her night had been so dull, it was like the Gods of Olympus had been smiling down at her sending this guy her way. Course, that would mean they were actually acknowledging her existence (Her mother hadn't even done that, so it was one of those things classified as "wishful thinking"). So really, it was just fate. The old sort of fate she believed in, not the actual fates. The whole coincidence thing, basically.

Kitty quickly used one hand to brush some thick curls out of her eyes, pushing some of the shorter strands behind her ear to keep them tucked out of the way. This was one of those times she was wishing for a hair tie or something, so she could keep her annoyingly curly hair tied back.

'You are definitely in luck,' she grinned widely, stopping a few feet from him. It was good, in a way, that this was one of the more secluded spots in the nightclub. It was where people came when they wanted to sneak out back, or take a break from the more intense lights out front. They could be sort of hard on your eyes. Since she suffered migraines, she often came back here to have a quick ten minute break. Sometimes Nessa would come and find her here, if she couldn't see her on the dancefloor.

'You really didn't strike me as the type of guy who'd usually come here. No offense or anything... you just looked kind of out of place,' she shifted her weight slightly, teetering on her heels in the lost-balance type of way rather than the I'm-really-drunk way. She was just sort of out of practice.

'Unless you wanna get a drink before I show you, it's this way,' she gestured to the exit door behind her that lead to the corridor beyond, 'Well, the other exit is this way. The front one is all the way out there, and if you hadn't noticed...'

Sheepishly, she glanced down at her feet.

'I'm not totally co-ordinated. So if I had to walk through the crowds that have come in since I got here, I'd probably end up on the ground or something, you know?'

Andrew’s grin didn’t fade, but it took on a more chagrined aspect. “I don’t really hang out at nightclubs, not at all,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck. He could feel the flush creeping up his neck, and willed it to not reach any higher. He’d met girls before, who looked at him the exact same way this one was, but this girl was just so…intense about her gaze. The way she held herself, her confidence, threw him off. She was beautiful, he had to admit, but the issue was that she knew she was gorgeous, and she used it and flaunted it, with attempted subtlety, but not quite getting there. Andrew looked away. “I was heading to my dad’s place-we’d moved to a different part of the city while I was at my camp-and I got lost, so I kind of slipped in here to ask for help,” he explained. He met her eyes again. “I’d like to get home as soon as I can, it’s kind of late, and I don’t want to risk a lady falling, now do I?” He flashed another charming smile, and gestured to the hallway with one hand, the other tucked in his jeans’ pocket. “After you?”

KATHRYN DE BRÙN

Hm. The last time she'd flirted with someone (Or approached a guy), had been a good bit ago. She was out of practice with the whole thing. Was she doing this wrong? Should she try be more charming? More bold? Well, okay, maybe not more bold. She was blunt enough as it was- yes, she was aware how blunt she could be.

'I thought so. Just, people who actually do go to nightclubs and hang out in them look different. Less nervous, more relaxed.'

Awh. He was cute when he looked a little flustered. She wasn't sure, underneath the strobe lights and all, but she was almost positive she saw the barest hint of flush on his neck. Brushing a few loose strands of hair back, Kitty grinned widely.

'Easter camp or something, huh? Here's a tip for next time- it's better to slip into stores and such. Places like this,' she gestured out to where the crowded dance floor was, and the bar, 'Get really loud, really quickly. You don't always find people who'll help you out.'

So, lucky you came across me!

Pushing the door's handle down, Kitty pressed her back up against it and pushed it wide open, the chilly air raising goosebumps on her arms and legs. She shivered slightly, looking to the guy and meeting his own gaze.

'I get it. Not good to be out on the town this late at night,' she smiled brightly, 'And I don't wanna fall, so this is definitely the quickest route that'll keep me safe from that.'

Gods, she was lucky she wasn't hyperventilating from his charming smiles. They lit up his face, honestly. She didn't usually study peoples faces, obviously, but just... his smile brightened up all of his features in a way that no other expression she'd seen so far did.

'Why thank you, kind sir.'

Stepping into the hall, she held the door with her foot while he followed, letting it fall closed when he was standing in the cold hallway with her. It was pretty standard, to be honest. Concrete walls, concrete floor, concrete ceiling. There were barrels of alcohol stacked to one side, some boxes of crisps and things beside them. It was mainly used by Nessa for storage, and sometimes an escape out back if she needed air or something. Kitty came in here to smoke, since Nessa and Leo and the other bouncers didn't let her in the smoking room whenever she had a craving.

Turning to the guy again, her curls bounced daintily around her face as she looked up at him. Without the strobe lights, he looked a little different. Course, he was still under artificial light, so there was difference.

'What's your name? Age? Star sign?' Ok, so the star sign part was a joke, but Kitty raised an eyebrow and left the questions out in the open.

Andrew’s smile felt so easy and relaxed. He loved moments like these, where he smiled for the sake of the person, but then it melted into a genuine, content feeling. He chuckled, “it was that obvious, huh?” He rubbed the back of his neck again, a nervous gesture that consumed time for him to fill in conversation. “It’s more of a, talent honing camp of sorts, because I’m interested in arts like acting and singing, so I go there every summer to just relax and have fun,” he clarified. It wasn’t a total lie, he did hone his talents, but not the ones he’d included. Besides, it gave him a reason to avoid the simple tip. He was embarrassed enough that he had to ask for help, but now he slipped into a nightclub. He wasn’t even of age! But he didn’t quite regret it, meeting this girl was rather nice, and a change of pace and company. Relaxing his shoulders, he slipped into an easy stride next to her. “I’m Andrew Ryland, born in the year 1997, which puts me at 17 years of age. I’m a November child, so that makes me a Scorpio, though I’m not a, ‘passionate, worldly soul’ the newspaper states me as.” He laughed then, an effortless sound, and faced her, smile still caught in his eyes. “Can I ask the same? Who’s the lovely girl I’ve gotten the pleasure to bump into?”

'Yup. If you were trying to be stealthy or something, you totally failed. People who are usually found in nightclubs have a much more relaxed look about them. You looked...' pausing, she tilted her head in a thoughtful expression before smiling brightly and continuing, 'in pain.'

Kitty noted the way he rubbed the back of his neck, a gesture which could mean multiple things. Embarrassment- was he embarrassed right now? Nervousness- why would he be nervous? She was as playful as a kitten, goddammit. Frustration? Would that count too? Hm. Possibly. She wasn't really well versed in the little gestures humans used. She liked to be pretend she was, but she really, really wasn't.

'It sounds like it's a lot of fun. I go to camp sometimes too, kind of an any holiday's place. But it's more... sports based, really.'

Well, she technically wasn't telling a lie. Just a really, really big fib. It was more sports orientated. They used weapons. And they burned calories when they swung them. Sometimes though, she honestly would have preferred the sort of camp the guy was on about. More artsy, less kill-y.

She nodded to his words, taking in the information she'd managed to get from him and storing it at the back of her mind. Andrew. Awh, what a nice name. Kitty even cracked a smile at his ability to remember what his star sign said about him.

'I disagree. In the two point four minutes that I've known you, I definitely think you're a "passionate, worldly soul".'

Grinning mischievously up at him, Kitty turned the corner and came too the exit doors, resting against one of the bars as she contemplated her answer. She could be the mysterious girl, smile and say bye. Or she could answer. Either one.

'I'm Kitty. Meow,' she playfully batted at his arm, 'Cancer. But it's impolite to ask a lady her age, so...'

Andrew’s hand slipped from his neck and swung loosely by his side, casual, but with a strong, firm movement. His smile went from pleasant to amused, basking in the charming company this girl gave him. “I do sports too,” he commented simply. He nodded and affirmed the fact he was listening at the right points, preferring to be an audience rather than speak. At her comment on his ‘worldliness’, he laughed. “I suppose I am. I’ve traveled across the globe with my father, and I do find a sort of passion in the things I do, so I might actually fit the description.” He paused, as he always did, when he mentioned his travels with his father. He had mixed feelings over his memories, which spanned over nine years, filled with the usual humour found in traversing new places, but also dotted and greyed with areas of sadness and violence, places Andrew didn’t want to revisit. He rubbed his jaw self-consciously, making sure the concealer there hid his scar.
Arriving at the door, Andrew felt a small pang of sadness. It had been only a few minutes, but when he met others, he always connected, and had the longing to be more than an acquaintance. That personality trait did not work well on his excursions, and it didn’t do well now. He stepped into the threshold of the door, one hand against it, facing Kitty. He bowed in mock politeness. “Forgive me, Miss Kitty. I did not mean any offense with my inquiry, I’m just rather gripped with curiosity about a pleasant young lady like you.” He straightened, and his ever-present smile disappeared for a moment, only to return as a mischievous smirk. Keeping up his Shakespearean courtesy, he continued, “Should this be farewell? Or will there be another occasion for me to express my gratitude to you, for guiding a lost soul back from whence he came?” He was playful in his tone, but his eyes developed a sad, puppy-eyed look he got when it came goodbyes. But hoping to match her in confidence, he retained his smile.

KATHRYN DE BRÙN

Kitty would have been lying if she'd said she wasn't more than a little curious about the camp Andrew went too. It sounded pretty good, actually. Course, it'd never compare to Camp Half-Blood, but it gave them some common ground. It meant they both knew what it was like to attend a camp with other kids their age, etc etc.

'Sports, huh? Running? Basketball? Volleyball?' she threw out some random sports, casually continuing on her way as she talked, 'I do archery, mainly. It works your forearms and all that jazz. Not that I'm a health freak. That... I definitely am not.'

She liked his laugh. Which definitely wasn't a cheesy thing to think, and definitely wasn't something she was going to say out loud. But she did. It was a nice laugh, it made his face light up like his smile did, but it's sound was melodic and nice. She was sort of proud of the fact that she had been the one who had made him laugh like that.

'Really?' Kitty let out a low whistle, 'All across the globe? Holy moly... it makes my dismal journey from England to Ireland and then to here seem like nothing.'

The door signaled some amount of sadness for Kitty. It was the end of the road, she had to wave goodbye to the new friend she'd managed to find... and she regretted walking so fast. Maybe she should have tripped in her heels or something, just to slow herself down. Knocking against the wood with her knuckles, she tapped out a steady sort of a beat, biting her lip as she tried to think of something to say. But her serious, slightly sad look broke almost immediately as he bowed in mock politeness, and she giggled brightly.

'Curiosity killed the cat, Andrew. And satisfaction may or may not have brought it back, but that doesn't fit with this sentence so let's forget that part.'

Kitty couldn't help but feel honored, that she'd gotten such a nice reaction from such a nice boy. She felt honored to be in his presence- lord knew she found herself in much less pleasant presences on other weekends. Before she could regret her decision, she rummaged in her jackets pocket, listening only halfway to the end of his shakespearean monologue. When she managed to find the permanent marker, she reached out and grabbed his hand, quickly scribbling her phone number in black ink on his palm.

When she finally looked back up and let go of his hand, slipping the marker back into her pocket, she found her heartstrings being pulled by the puppy dog eyes.

Leaning forward, she stood on her tip toes and quickly, yet maybe lingering more than she should have, pressed her lips to his cheek before pulling back. She rolled back onto her heels, using one hand against the wall to re-steady herself before grinning up at him.

'I hope to see you again soon, sir. Lest you wish to dash my dreams.'

((idk at least i replied))
