It's My Birthday So What (OPEN)

Subject: It's My Birthday So What (OPEN) Sat Feb 04, 2012 7:49 pm

I woke up. I remembered today was my birthday. No one would probably care. I wouldn't get a present or a slice of cake. It would just be another lame birthday. I thought I would give myself a present. Sleeping in. I was so excited.

Valerie glanced over and saw that Connor was awake. Good, he should be. "Happy Birthday Connor!" Valerie said brightly. She'd also made him a present. She was pretty proud of it. It was a small owl made of grey marble. All the details were very fine. You could even see its eyes. Valerie had spent ages on it. It was pretty impressive since she lacked in the art department. Valerie held out her present. Hopefully he would like it. If he didn't, oh well. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

"Um.... thanks." I said. I got out of bed and saw th gift. I thought it was amazing. "I love it. Thanks." I took the gift and put it on dresser. I went into the bathroom and changed into some slacks and a shirt with a tie on it. I yawned. I got my watch and looked at the time. It was 7:00. "When is your birthday?" I said.

Valerie grinned. Connor seemed to like her gift. Then she giggled. For some reason Valerie always cracked up when people asked her about her birthday. "My birthday's on the 29 of February." she said. It was a pretty weird date. Technically, after her birthday this year Valerie would only be four. That was only technically though. She was really turning 16.

I yawned again. I was really tired. "How do you wake up so early?" I asked. RING!!!! My alram clock went off. I clicked the button on the top really hard. I wanted it to shut up.

Valerie shrugged. "I just do." she answered. That was her real answer. For some reason Valerie never slept in pass 7am. Plus, she couldn't go back to sleep once she had woken up. Sometimes it was really annoying, especially when she was tired. "How come you can't get up so early?" she asked curiously.

"I can't because I always go to bed at twelve midnight. I wake up at twelve in the afternoon. What do you go to bed?" I said. I thought o far my birthday was going well.

12 midnight? Wow, that was late. "I got to bed at 10:30pm." Valerie said. "Then I wake up 7ish usually. After I wake up in the morning I can't go back to sleep. So that's when I get up." She explained. "Do you sleep till midday, or do you just stay in bed until midday?" It was an honest question. Some people just couldn't be bothered to get out of their beds, even if they were awake.

"I usually sleep until midday. Sometimes I get up at 7:00 and just draw the rest of the time until midday. You can see some of my drawings if you would like." I said. I took out my sketching pad and layed it on my dresser. I had at least a hundred drawings.

"Sure." Valerie said happily. She opened the sketch pad and looked inside. Then she turned to the next page. She went through loads of pages. It seemed like the whole bookj was full of them. And they were all really good. Well, Valerie thought they were. But then again, everything was really good compared to her own artworks. "These are amazing." she said as she put the sketch pad down. "I'm hopeless at art."

"Thanks. Why do you have trouble making art?" I said. I thought it was easy making art. "It doesn't have to amazing to other people. It has to be amazing to you." I said.

"If you're gonna talk go to the living room or something! Some people want sleep!" Poppy grumbled from a few bunks over.
"Happy birthday and all but it's SEVEN!" She flipped over so her back was to them and tried to go back to sleep, her red hair splayed across the pillow.

Valerie glanced at Poppy in irritation. Seven wasn't that early. "But my art isn't amazing to me." she said truthfully. "It's terrible, when I draw or paint anyway. Are you going to go back to sleep, or are we going to continue this conversation in the living room?" Again Valerie shot an annoyed glare at Poppy. Seriously, what was her problem? They hadn't been talking that loudly. Obviously they hadn't because she was the only one who had woken up.

Poppy could feel them glaring at her. Too bad. She wasn't a morning person.
Poppy pulled a pillow over her head and went back to sleep. She had woken them up on her own but the voices on the edge of her subconsciousness prevented her from going back to sleep.

Valerie shot one last glare at Poppy before following Connor into the living room. "Finally." she said happily. "We can now talk normally. By normally I mean not in whispers." Valerie was really annoyed about Poppy. It was Connor's birthday and she had basically told him to shut-up? That was mean, very mean. Not to mention rude.

Poppy felt bad about how she had acted, she was rude and mean and horrible. Bad Poppy! She thought to herself, feeling even worse. Yesterday they probably didn't think about what they were saying. It was all her fault. It was all her fault. It was all her fault... Poppy curled up into an even tighter ball.

Valerie thought for a moment. It was a difficult question. "I thin I'm around 15." she said thoughtfully. "I don't actually know." she admitted. "See, I was born in a leap year on the 29 February. So this year I'll turn 16 and I've decided that I must be 15ish." Sadly it was true. It was pretty bad luck to only have a birthday every 4 years. Technically Valerie was really only almost 4.

"Your birthday is on Leap Day! Your lucky. I would want my birthday to be every 4 years." I said. Valerie was lucky to have her birthday on Leap Day, but the only bad part would be like she's 4.

Abigail had just gotten up, but she didn't really look like it. She had already fixed her hair before she got to the living room, so it didn't look like a mess. Typical Abby. Being so careful with her appearance even at so early in the morning. The only visible sign of her sleepiness is how her eyelids seemed to droop every now and then, covering her gray eyes. Once she was in the living room, she couldn't help but overhear someone saying the word 'birthday.' Abby looked around for the source of the voices. She saw a two of her siblings talking. What were their names again...? Connor and... Valerie. Yep, Abby was so thankful for having a good memory. She walked over to the two with a huge smile on her face.

"Morning," she said. "So... it's your birthday, right? Couldn't help but overhear your conversation," Abby said with a soft laugh. "Happy birthday, Connor."

"I wouldn't call turning 4 this year lucky" Valerie said, wrinkling her nose. It really sucked still being the age of a toddler. Personally, Valerie hated it. But she just had to suck it up and deal with it. You couldn't change the day of you birth, after all. "Morning Abby." she said, smiling at her half sister. "I didn't realize you got up this early."

Abigail smiled back at Valerie. "It's rare, but it happens... like once in a blue moon," she said, giggling slightly. As to why she did not get lazy getting out of bed at this time of the morning, Abby still had no clue. "I didn't know you had a leap year birthday, Val," she said, trying to muffle a yawn. "Happy fourth birthday in advance... I guess?"

"August 8," Abigail said, smiling. She paused before continuing. "I'll be turning 18 this year too. I guess that means I'm free to go out of the camp if I like." She chuckled at the realization. She just realized that now. Not that she had plans of getting out of this camp. Abby didn't really want to go back to the outside world. It was so much better here.
