The Arrival

'"it is Night. Why are you not asleep," Edgar said then alighted upon this human's head.'

'Edgar sat down upon this "Fye" person's head. "twinkle twinkle?," Edgar said humorously.'

I finished setting up the perimeter when I noticed something. Edgar was gone. When i listened carefully i could hear his familiar cawing. I walked towards it.
He was talking to someone. Sitting on their head as is his way.
I walked up to the person and said to them. "I see you've met my pet."

"In a sense" i say sitting down as Edgar flits over to my shoulder.

"Elias. Who are you?," I replied with a faint quizzical raise in my eyebrow and a slight hunch in my shoulders.
I was adept at reading body language but very few other people were. so while this might have been a significant gesture to me i doubt anyone else would pick up on it.

"I didnt ask your name," I say "I asked who are you"
"Twinkle twinkle," says Edgar helpfully with as much of a smile as a bird can muster.

"Isn't it always?" I say sitting down and then going silent.

"I can relate to that."I say, "but really it was a simpler question than you seem to think. how about telling me...say, your god parent? You seem to be a night person. from what little i know of greek myths id guess... Hecate?"
This person reminded me of bit of myself.

"I've never heard of him. Nor have i heard of my god...but then again i didnt learrn too much. I know more about chinesse mythology than greek. My father never actually told me his name he just refered to himself as 'my father' but he said he was the son of hades and persephone so..." i trail off.
"careful of what you say" I said to myself.

"same here with china. i have only been here..." I caught myself, "nevermind."
Edgar sqwaked. "I said nevermind not nevermore."I calmy reprimanded him.

I sighed. lapsing into silence.
Edgar wouldnt have it though. "would you like to hear a poem?," said the bird.

Edgar smiled and started,
"Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
`Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven.
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore -
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning - little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door -
Bird or beast above the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
With such name as `Nevermore.'"

"That's not even all of it" I say, "Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Raven'. He loves that poem."
