Stargazing

Xiao Yan lay on her back at the base of Half Blood Hill, looking at the sky above. The moon was full; illuminating the vast midnight blue expanse above and therefore blotting out the stars that would be there on any other day. The daughter of Morpheus found the silver orb cruel in that sense; when it was at its best, nothing else was even allowed to compete.

Scanning the dark sky with equally dark eyes, the Chinese girl looked to see if there was any star bright enough to contend with the moon. There; across the sky from the moon, a bright dot marred the smooth silkiness of the universe, glimmering as if it was meant to be there. And who was she to say otherwise? She was, after all, just another demigod. Just another living, breathing thing on this planet that was eventually going to die. What right did she have to say that the star couldn't be where it was?

...Then again, all the star really was, was a mass of highly explosive gas.

Moving her hand from its place behind her head slowly, Xiao Yan stroked one of her many cats - Chun - lightly. She wasn't doing this "stargazing" thing correctly, she knew; she shouldn't be thinking while trying to relax - although, that was never a problem for the daughter of the god of dreams. She could close her eyes right then and there, and be out like a light... in the grass; on the uneven ground of Half Blood Hill; where she would meet her untimely demise via Harpies if she fell asleep.

So, naturally, she didn't close her eyes. Simple solution.

It's night already! The sane Meira inside the persistent Meira screamed. You need to rest, or else-

Meira's thorns had hit someone! She heard it with a thud, and she ran for the aid. That's what I told you, Meira's mind whispered.

Luckily, she hadn't hit the girl lying in the Half-Blood hill. The thorn she'd just let loose is roughly one inch in the girl's side. Meira was horrified! "I'm sorry!" she blurted out.

Xiao Yan looked up through half-lidded eyes at the blonde girl in front of her, before slowly glancing down at the thorn which had barely missed Heracles' tail. She sat up, scooping up the little cat and placing him on his rightful place atop her head.

The Chinese girl then plucked the thorn from the ground and examined it, muttering a soft, "It's fine..." A few of her cats tried to bat the thorn out of her hand, but Heracles silenced them with a tiny hiss.

((She has lots of cats, mind you. ^^))

Meira sighed. "Really, I'm very sorry...," she muttered. She glanced at the cats, and felt an urge to touch them. She knelt, held out one of her hands, and one of the cats went to her.

Meira looked at the girl. She looked barely American, with tint of Asian looks. She followed her gaze, and she saw countless stars. "Whoa, they're so.. pretty.

Xiao Yan only hummed in response, her eyes still focused on that one, extremely bright star; the one that stood out from the others.

"Her name... is Xia," Yan muttered softly, still staring at the pinprick of light. "...The cat," she clarified, "the one... you are petting."

"Hi, Xia," Meira murmured. "Pleased to meet you." Meira's sane mind sreamed once again, You're crazy! Talking to a cat. But Meira didn't mind it. She sat down cross-legged, still stroking Xia. What with the stars gleaming bright above her, and soft northern wind blowing, she couldn't help it but be... relaxed. The same way the girl a few feet beside her's doing.

Meira looked above. "What's your favorite constellation?"

"Gemini," she said, looking up at the sky and tracing the two stick figures with her pointer finger. "Because... it was my... twin's favourite."

It still is, Xiao-xiexie, the voice of her brother echoed through her mind, bringing a small smile to her face. Sometimes she forgot that his consciousness was transferred into her body.

Meira gazed above for the Gemini constellation. But she didn't know which is which. Sadly, she can just recognize the constellation of Orion. Next time, she would buy a star book. After a while, with Xia the cat still beside her, Meira stood up. She's starting to feel uncomfortable and rather very sleepy. She looked at the Asian girl.

"I-I probably should go now. And I'm sorry again, I'll try to be more careful," Meira said in a soft voice. She started to trudge down Half-Blood Hill, but turned around.

"Oh. I'd never get an introduction. I'm Meira Sanzenin from the Demeter Cabin. You?"

Xiao Yan glanced at the girl as she made her way down the hill, blinking once at her name. Meira Sanzenin, hm? I'll remember her...maybe.

"Wang Xiao Yan... or, Xiao Yan Wang, Western order... Daughter of... Morpheus, god of... sleep and dreams..." The Chinese girl yawned monotonously, before shifting into a cross-legged slouch and tilting her head back to stare at the stars once more.

((Oh. My. God. That NAME. Vessalius... Are you a Pandora Hearts fan!? That's like, my favourite fandom right now - besides Hetalia~ X3 ))

Meira heard um the girl yawning, and she stopped to look back, just to hear her say her name: Xiao Yan, from the Morpheus Cabin. Yeah, makes sense now why she's always sleepy... and always looked at the stars. Stars are dreams for Meira.

Meira smiled once more before trudging back to her Cabin for a good night's sleep. Maybe Morpheus would grant her wish to dream of lasagnas!

((Sort of... I just heard the name, and it sounds good, hehe~))

Xiao Yan heard the girl take her leave, but she paid no attention to it as she followed the imaginary lines connecting the stars of Sagittarius with half-lidded, dark eyes. The stars had really become bright since dusk, the light blue, lavender, and golden hues of the Milky Way easily depictable against the midnight sky.

Movement in the corner of her vision caused her eyes to snap to the right, tracing quickly across the stars to find one light streaking across the sky, splitting the satiny midnight air like scissors to fabric.

Make a wish, Xiao-xie xie.

Smiling softly, the daughter of Morpheus reached up to remove Heracles from her head - cradling the small cat in her arms - before flopping down on her side and rolling over onto her back. She could feel her cats snuggle in closer, and she let out a slow sigh. I wish we could just... stay like this. Forever.
