Setting out on a quest

They trio ran out of the hotel and down the road. Macy saw many places that brought back memories of her childhood. But there was no time to remanence. She had to keep moving. "We take a left at the next crosswalk." Macy said as they approached an intersection. Macy sniffed in. Did she smell... Smoke? She saw out on the horizon a dark grey line. "It's just a forest fire." she kept telling herself. "Just a forest fire..."

They ran in silence for a while. Then Macy saw a road sign that made her heart stop. "Forest Rd." she whispered. The smoke was getting thicker. Then, they rounded the corner. "No!" Macy screeched. Macy's small, one story house was ablaze with flames. The smoke surrounded the street, causing them to have to cough. Macy wasn't the one to cry, but now... A single warm tear slid down her cheek. She took a deep breath. "We need to search the house. They may not be in there, they might be wanting us to think that their.... their...." she couldn't bring herself to say what they were all thinking.

She took another deep breath. "We just need to make sure... Well you know. We should search the house."

Macy ran around to the back of the house and pulled out a hose. "It will stretch to the door, but after that I'm not sure!" she yelled over the sound of the house. "We can try to make a path with it!" Where's a Poseidon kid when you need one?

Macy grabbed the hose and ran to her back door. She pulled back the lever and water shot out like at rocket. She walked carefully inside and yelled, "Mom? Mom where are you?" No answer. Macy shot the hose at every inch of house she could get at, but the fire was fighting back. The hose stretched a little bit further than she had expected, put it stopped by the time she got to her kitchen. Then she had an idea. "Courtney! In the bottom cabinet under the sink we have a fire extinguisher!"

In a few minutes, most of the living area was put out of it's fire. "Mom!?! Are you here?" Macy searched everywhere frantically for a few minutes but found nothing. Then she looked over at a few cracked pictures. One picture of Macy when she was young had a yellow tip coming out of it. Macy walked over to it carefully and tugged it out. It was a note. From her Mom! It read:
Dear Macy,
I'm not sure if you will get this note, but the monsters have taken me and Davian, your new brother, to the old tree at the end the street and keeping us captive. Help.
-Mother

Macy looked up at Courtney and Adam. "Read this." she said, quickly handing them the note.

"But they're alive." Macy breathed a sigh of relief. "Do you think it's a trap?" Macy asked hesitantly.

Macy looked at the note, then back up at Adam. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "We have to try."

Macy walked slowly out of the house. She had faced monster before, but there could hundreds here. There were only three of them. For one of the first real times in in her life, Macy thought about death. Would she die? She quickly pushed it out of her head, but was still extremely worried. Which was also a new real thing to her. Before, life at Camp had always been happy go-lucky. This was the real world. She walked behind Courtney and felt another single tear well up in her eyes.

Macy quickly wiped her eyes and said, "Oh, yeah I'm fine." She looked up at Adam. "How can we win?" she asked hopelessly.

She felt another warm tear trickle down her face. "How do you know? What if one of you die? I couldn't live with myself... knowing that I was the one who asked you to come..."

"Well, let me think..." she said giving a sobby laugh. Then she turned to face him and, for the first time, hugged him. Everyone knew they were best friends so Macy didn't think anything of it. "Thanks Adam."

"Lets go kick monster butt." she said letting go, taking her daggers out, and brandishing them in the air.
