Dipping my toes in the water of the lake, I sighed and crossed my arms in an attempt to shield myself from the breeze. I was getting soft, I had been letting my guard down lately. That wasn't good, not good at all. Any one of the campers I found myself in the company of could be working for the enemy - for Kronos. Spies, I had heard the word whispered around camp, even though the leaders told us not to worry, I could tell they were worried themselves. The spies could be searching for flaws, the weak links. I could not allow myself to be a weak link. Breathing in and out, I stared at the water.

"Wow, I didn't expect anyone else to come to this place." an unknown voice said from amongst the trees. "I thought that I would be here all alone."

Head snapping around so quickly that my neck cracked, I resisted the urge to rub my neck and instead narrowed my eyes at the trees. There had been some voice, but I couldn't identify the source just yet. Scanning the foliage, I blinked before standing and biting my lip. Well, I'd better reply. Might as well seem remotely intelligent rather than just gawking at the talking trees. "Well, hello to you too." I said, voice slightly unsure - something that I realized as the words came out. Clearing my throat after I had spoken, I looked from tree to tree pointedly.

"I'm directly above you if you're wondering where I am" he said with a shake of his head and a trace of laughter in his voice."You're a little bit on the strange side aren't you?"

Punk nature campers. Why were they always in trees? What had I done that was strange? "Yes, maybe I am." I replied defensively, crossing my arms and huffing silently. I felt like... a kid in grade-school. "But then again, I'm not the one in the tree." I said, eyebrows raised as I struggled to crane my neck to pinpoint where he was. Oh gods, if he had said that I was strange after - what, five seconds of knowing me? - maybe I really was. Oh well, nothing I could really do about that.

"Well jeez, there's no need to be so hostile." he said now growing slightly irritated. "Are you having a bad day or something? Because you seem to be pretty wound up." He let out a long deep sigh in an attempt to hide his irritation, then after a few seconds he spoke once again. " You really need to either relax a little bit, or try to let people know when you're in a sour mood because if you don't you won't be able to keep many friends. Trust me I know."

Raising an eyebrow in an interested way, Melinda resisted the urge to respond to the sting and absorbed it instead. This was one of her first experiences being on the receiving side - she was usually on the other end. It almost made her sympathetic for the people she'd been rude to. Almost.

Frowning, she remained silent for a moment before replying. "Thank you for that advice, I had no idea at all that being in a sour mood drove away friends." What makes you think I want friends? She said sarcastically, rolling her eyes and leaving the part out about her questioning his thinking that she wanted friends. Trust him, he knew - pah, yeah right, why would she trust him? Blinking, she averted her eyes. "I know." She said more quietly, brushing a blade of grass off of her arm.

"You know?" Demitri inquired with traces of both curiosity and confusion in his voice. Without warning he dropped down from his station in the tree, landing directly behind her rather ungracefully, stumbling a bit, and almost falling into her. "Sorry about that, I was a little bit rough on the landing, but anyway what do you mean you know?" he asked again, his light brown eyes focusing on her icy blue eyes.

Startled slightly when he hopped down behind her, Melinda turned around and took a few steps backward and frowned. Narrowing her eyes further, she scanned his eyes for a moment before sighing. "I kind of contradicted myself there, I guess." She admitted, laughing briefly before stopping and staring at the lake. "I know that being rude and cool will drive people away." She finally answered, scowling lightly.

" Yes you did contradict yourself, but what I want to know is why you do it even though you know the consequences." he said his face quite visibly contorting as he tried to make sense the information he received. "Because if you ask me, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense."

With a sigh he shook his head and walked over to the trunk of the tree he had just leaped out of. He then sat at the base, wiped his face with his shirt and looked back at her.

Clenching her jaw, Melinda scratched her arm absently and glowered lightly. How would she explain it? She probably wouldn't tell him that she could see through lies and such - even if he did seem to be a relatively genuine and honest person. Honestly, who ever heard of a child of Aphrodite seeing through lies? It was just plain weird. "People... can't be trusted. Not even campers." She said, voice hesitant and wavering. "Friends will only let you down in the end." She told him, shooting him a slanted look and sighing quietly. "They always do."

"And why is it that you feel that way?" he asked as he waved his hand around and played with the plants. "I mean there has to be some sort of reason. Maybe a past experience or something, you don't just wake up one day and say I don't like people." Demitri was now confused. This girl seemed to talk in circles, and to be completely honest he wasn't sure why. He considered himself a likable person, but even so she seemed to have a huge wall up and he could tell that she didn't really want to talk to him. Of course that wasn't going to stop him, he was a rather persistent person and he was now determined to smash through her wall.

"Before you answer my other question, would you mind telling me who your god parent is?"

"Aphrodite." She said, not offering her name or any other information. Narrowing her eyes, she processed his previous question. "What are you - a therapist?" She snapped, natural defense mechanisms kicking in, turning to scowl at him. "Maybe I did just wake up one day and say, 'Gee, people suck, I don't think I like them anymore.'" She said sardonically, smiling humourlessly at him. Man, wasn't it considered impolite to go digging into someone's personality and the cause of that personality so early on in a conversation? Honestly. She hardly even knew this person and there he went asking her questions about why she felt the way she did.

"There you go again with the unnecessarily hostile tone." he said after breathing a long sigh of pity and irritation. "You're treating me like an enemy for absolutely no reason and I'm trying to understand why. It ruins the beauty you were blessed with, you know? I would ask you your name but I'm not sure that you would tell me, so instead may I ask what brings you here?"

As he awaited her response he began to slouch, all the plants around him now swaying gently as he moved his hand calmly through the air. Again he focused his soft eyes on hers, hoping that by some miracle this would make her more willing to talk to him. He didn't have very high expectations though, especially with the way she had been acting so far. All he was doing was trying to help, but every time he said something she snapped at him rather mercilessly with that sharp tongue of hers. He didn't know what to do anymore, especially since overall he was one to avoid conflict.

Now he was reprimanding her like she was some sort of misbehaving child? Pursing her lips, Melinda crossed her arms. This person was one of the strangest people she had ever met. Why was he still talking to her? Tough luck if he thought he could change her or something, she refused to do something like that. "I don't think I really want to talk to you anymore." She said curtly, nodding to him before promptly beginning to walk off.

(( Sorry to leave it like this, man, but I'm going to make Melinda inactive. She's getting to be a pretty drab character and I don't really know how to role play her anymore. xD ))

(( Nice to hear that! Now that a good chunk of my characters are inactive I'm probably going to make a whole new batch of characters, so once those are up you can take your pick. xD ))
