My left eye twitched as I looked down at the scan-tron staring me in the face. No, a scan-tron was not a monster I should be fighting, alas it was a test I should be fighting. My eye twitched again as I heard the old style clock (non digital) click to the next minute. Note to self: Learn to ignore clocks. My head drooped towards my desk as I fought my heavy eyelids. Do. Not. Fall. Asleep. I had actually studied for this test. Yeah, I know. Me, Roxanne Michaels, studying. I glanced at the next question as the guy next to me stood up. He stretched his long, lean arms and dragged his feet over to the drop-in desk and dropped his test in. Hence the name, drop-in-basket. Gah, was this class ever going to end?! I thought to myself as I forced my brain to focus on the test. Obviously, finishing was not an option. I had already gotten a high-school education and I was now forcing myself to go to college. I had failed Geometry in tenth grade and was forced to take it in summer school. But I never really learned anything since I just copied off Thomas Adams, who was a righty who never covered his answers. He wasn't even a sophomore. He was a freshman. A year younger than me and he was taking my class in summer school because he probably hadn't had anything better to do. I wished I'd actually learned some of this stuff. Because now, my test was on something about the mechanical force of blah blah blah. I don't remember what happened next because apparently five questions later the professor stood in front of me with his palm facing upward. I looked at it and then back at his face. He wanted my test. I groaned audibly and forced myself to give it to him. He sighed as he looked over my chicken-scratch handwriting and shook his head. He said nothing on the way back to his desk. I let my head drop to the desk with a loud THUD. This college thingie was impossible. "Roxanne..." The teacher began. I didn't wanna hear it, so I bolted out of there faster than my legs could carry me.

Soon I was feeling much better. Right after I downed an entire cheeseburger by myself and drowned in a large Coke from McDonald's. It was a good thing I burned calories faster than I consumed them, otherwise I'd be fat by now. But alas, no. Brian strode up to me and touched my shoulder. Brian was my hot, best friend. He was definite boyfriend material with those chocolate brown eyes and dirty blonde hair. He was so cute. I couldn't do a mortal boyfriend though. Mostly because I didn't have the time to alternate between camp and James and college and Brian. Choices, choices, choices. I grinned at him and he grinned back. "Well you're awfully fat." He jabbed my in the side quickly and I doubled over to the side clutching my ribcage.
"Screw you! That kinda hurt!" I admit we were flirting. But I couldn't help myself.
So...he tried to be defiant and poke me again. I slapped his hand away easily.
"Give it up, buddy. It's not gonna work." I grinned at him as he ruffled my hair and wrapped his arms around my shoulders suddenly. I rolled my eyes and wrapped my short arms around his ribcage. We stood like that in the cold for a little while I shivered quietly. He didn't seem to notice.
"Hey, loverboy, I'm kinda cold," I said snorting into his coat. He let go and looked down at me. "To the mall!" He shouted charging off down the sidewalk. People were staring back from him to me as I raised my hands in mock defeat. "I don't know him." Was my only answer for Brian's behaviour. I was about to race off after him when a hand clamped down onto my mouth. I tried to scream but they had their arm around my neck. Then I remembered I had a knife. Which I was just about to whip out too.

I'm not sure of the right word to say what I had just done, but apparently I was now in the streets far away from camp by a McDonalds. I had like, poofed. In any case, I now spotted Zan and her "friend" -- I chuckled at the thought. Yeah... well, that's another story. Anyway, then I saw her friend... what was his name? Brian? I stink at memorizing stuff. Whatever. He was racing off down and charging towards the Mall not too far away. Yeah... that was... odd. My hazel eyes swiveled back to Roxanne, and the guy cloaked in black with a hand over her mouth. Pretty normal... WAIT. WHAT? My skin went cold. Well... that's something you certainly don't see every day. Fortunately Zan seemed to be reaching for something in her pocket, so I waited. In the meantime, I guess I could hurt to play with the stupid oaf's mind. I quickly disappeared from the other side of the street, and came up behind the man.

"Psst... yo, the dude who's trying to mug this person? You want some free drugs? Too bad. I don't sell 'em, so tough luck for you. Sucker." I chuckled mockingly in his right ear, just before disappearing and suddenly like, condensing on the roof of McDonalds. "Dude! Up here, man. What, can't keep up with me? Wow, you seriously suck." I laughed uproariously before disappearing once again. I suddenly appeared right in front of the man and Zan. Woops. Miscalculation. Hah, yeah right, like I knew any math. I quickly shouted a string of curse words at the "mug man", as I shall call him from now on. MM. Yeah, okay. Sure. I then poofed back to the other side of the street silently, and sat down in the shadows, my sand colored hair and my bright hazel eyes glowing in the dark like a cat's.

I whipped out the dagger and blindly plunged it into my attacker. I heard him gasp as I felt something warm and sticky flowing down my jean leg. I didn't glance down. I knew it was his blood. That's when he fell down twitching and I sprinted away. I flipped up my black hoodie and pulled another knife out of my tall boot and ran with it. Just in case.

I rolled my eyes, annoyed that Zan didn't even pay a glance towards me. That does so much good to my self esteem. With my eyes narrowed, I swiftly turned on my heel and disappeared, only to appear moments later right in front of Zan. "WHOA GEEZ!" I shouted as I ducked, nearly crashing into her. Unfortunately, I ducked a little too hard and smacked my forehead into the pavement. Okay... now I have a headache and a concussion. Stupid sidewalk. I slowly got up, rubbing my temples. "Sorry 'bout that, I suck at appearing right where I want to. This seriously didn't turn out great." I muttered the last part somewhat incoherently. My hazel gaze flickered to her stormy eyes. She freaked me out, but in a not creepy or scary way; more like a powerful way.

"So... from what I gathered, you just killed that "mug man", and then just walked away without noticing my random popping up?" I asked, somewhat irritably. "I mean... what gives?" I threw my hands up lightly in exasperation.

"When you live how and where I did and if you've been at camp for thirteen or so years, you learn to expect these things." I said steadying myself. The guy looked rather irritated with me. That was a new one, I didn't even know the guy and he was already irritated with me. I think that was a record. "Wait a minute...who are you?" I asked him narrowing my eyebrows. Whoever he was, I'd had to hand it to him. He wasn't a bad fighter dude and he was pretty cute.

I nodded gravely, my hazel eyes somehow darkening in tone. Weird. When she asked for who I was, I chuckled lightly. I straightened my back and said in a rather stuck up and fancy tone, "Name's Sam Beckham. The pleasure's all yours." I grinned lopsidedly, my hazel eyes brightening once again, my sandy hair shining rather harshly in the flickering street lamps' light. I was at her side in two quick strides, courtesy of my long legs. Even though she was a few years older, I was about a head taller. I win. Hah.

"So... now that introductions are through, where we heading? Might as well stick around with you, since I want to find some stuff to snag before I head back to camp."

"Head home? Oh hell no. I have plans tonight." I said grinning up at him. Just because I was short, I had to look up at every guy I talked to. Note to self: Take growth syrum to grow taller. "Besides I left Greek Fire at my place." Greek Fire was my bat/sword. It was a sleek black color with a few ball marks here and there and the words, "DeMarini" in English on one side and the words, in Greek, "ταλάντευση μακριά, or Swing Away". It was a gift from my first baseball coach and my best weapon.

James walked onto the hill into a scene he did not like. His Roxanne. With another guy. Fire erupted from his skin engulfing him as he got angry. He couldn't control his powers when he got angry. He took a breath and he returned to normal, a tree just flew up into flames and started burning more rapidly than was normal. Regardless of the fact that James was just burning down the Camp he stared at Roxanne. Hurt and confusion covering his face in a cold, hard mask.

Hearing a strange cracking noise, which I disregarded, I turned to Sam, "Do you smell that?" The warm acrid smell of flames was in my nose as I turned around to see James. My James. My boyfriend, James. I tried to not looked confused as I saw him on fire. He was probably pissed about something. I sprinted over to him and asked, "Dude, why you on fire again?" I had no idea I was doing anything wrong. It's not like I even was. Sam and I were just talking. I may have thought he was cute but James was hot. Literally. I really did like James. Probably the best boyfriend I'd had in a while. Nothing to compare to others. "Oh you probably...oh dear. Well that looked bad. But we were just talking about my bat that I left at my apartment." I explained.

James didn't move or even budge. A second tree shrivelled into ash. He didn't like what he was seeing, he'd never forget this. The grass around Sam started smoking yet not touching him. James's eyes had a strange fire flickering in them filled with cold jealousy and white hot fury. He left the fire circling the boy. He wouldn't burn him to a crisp just yet. For now.

"Stoppit!" I said and my hands flew up to his chest as I shoved him backwards. "You can't go around just burning innocent people when you're angry! It's not right. I don't go around shocking the crap outta people when I'm mad! Do I? No." I practically spat as I concentrated and made rain fall around Sam, putting the fire out. James may have been powerful but...I was a daughter of Zeus. I was powerful too.

The anger in James grew, yet it was not his own. It was someone else's. The fire burning the trees intensified. It went blue. Not orange. Blue. Slowly flames traced up his arm burning in patterns into his skin. The fire slid over his hand and when they left he scrunched them up in a tight ball, now not out of anger. Out of agony. The fire that was parting and tattooing his skin hurt badly. It was unbearable, if he'd not been a demigod he'd already have killed himself. The fire in the trees died. The fire on his arm left in the wind and all that was left was a golden red-like coloured tattoo tracing up his arm in a pattern, it was a strange yet exotic and graceful pattern winding around his arm with ancient markings craved into the skin.

"That's kinda cool..." I breathed, mystified by the markings on James' arm. Kinda hot. "I was thinking about getting a tat like that." I grinned up at him. Then I realized he was still mad at me. Come on! I hadn't even done anything. What was so wrong with talking with the opposite sex?

I stood stock still. "Well, this certainly was interesting." I muttered to myself as the smoke around me dispersed. I raised my eyebrows from where I was standing towards James, in mock amusement. "That all you got?" I called over, grinning. It was then that the air sort of cracked and then I was standing next to both of them, Roxanne and her boyfriend. "Well howdy. Do you do that whole fire thing often?" I chuckled. Then my face got serious... or, as close to serious as you can get. "Yeah, look, nothing happened. We were just talking. No need to get all steamed." I cracked a smile at the joke, and then wiped it clean off my face, coughing to hide my stifled laughter. James and I were about the same height. Which was a little awkward. I had wanted to intimidate him with my size, which obviously wasn't going to happen.

I looked sort of helplessly at Zan, then my eyes flicked back to James. "At least you're not the jealous type." I smiled, patting him on the back. Probably a wrong move to make, and keeping that in mind, I took a few steps back. It was strange how I could be serious at weird times. I mean, I wouldn't classify this as weird, but I realized now how one thing could turn into something else that was much worse with just one word. I can't say I wasn't jealous of James, but I could say that I didn't want to get any tattoos like he got, so I would try to lay low.

Not looking at James, I turned to Zan. "So we going to drop off your bat at your apartment now? James can come if he wants." I said, nodding in the direction of her boyfriend.

I hate my life and I want to die...Zan thought repeatedly as she watched the two boys talk. I want to die. I want to die. I want it so much. Were her only thoughts. Right now, all she wanted to do was step on Sam's foot and shut him up. Her gave a twitch as Sam patted James' shoulder. "James...er...can I talk to you for a moment?" She asked him as she took his hand in hers, lacing her fingers with his.

I could tell Zan was extremely uncomfortable with this. I gave Zan a strange look with my eyes, as if trying to say "Hurry back" and "Sorry" at the same time, both sincerely. I'm not that great at talking with my eyes, so it probably came out as "Don't kill yourself" and "He deserved it." Which is not what I wanted her to think. I glanced at James again, a strange emotion of annoyance and hatred boiling inside me. I wondered what I could do if we ever happened to be in a fight except steal his car keys and get the heck out of there. I seriously didn't really like him all that much, especially since he was with Zan. This was going to be hard, I could tell that already. I groaned mentally. But some of the groan escaped my mouth. My light eyebrows raised in shock. Did I just groan? YES. Was that the first thing I wanted to come out of my mouth when Zan asked if she could talk with James? NO. I cringed involuntarily, hoping neither of them heard. I was pretty quick on my feet and could pop in randomly at places, but I wouldn't beat out fire if I had to fight with James.

I noticed his groan and hoped that wasn't what I thought it was. I shuddered. Oh that's nasty. I threw up my hands behind James' back and gave him a look that clearly stated, 'WTF?! YOU MORON. ARE YOU TRYING TO GET JAMES TO DUMP MY BUTT? CAUSE USUALLY I'M THE ONE WHO DOES THAT.' Yes, I was talented enough to muster all that into one look. But...seriously, what was with the groan? Was he thinking about...NO.

((I read it the first time and I was like, "Did Sam just groan sexually?" And then I read it again and was all like, "Holy snot. Nevermind. I need to stop watching Conan."))

I shrugged, and gave her a look that he hoped said "It's not what your strange mind thinks it is, Zan. So stop looking at me like that. And NO, I'm not trying to make James break up with you! Ugh, fine, maybe a little, but that's not the point!" I practically tried to shout that last part in my mind. Ironic. Then I gave her a questioning look that was wondering what she was going to talk about with James. Curiosity killed the cat. And I think I'm definitely going to be the cat once this is through. It was strange that Zan and I were practically having a conversation... mentally. Reading each others thoughts did not come in the memo of a Hermes kid... unless I missed a part. So what was with this?

I just looked at his incredulously. This time I hoped my eyes read, 'Why would you want James to break up with me? Ohh...I know...you like me and you think I can do better and the whole nine-yards?' This was starting to get frankly a little creepy. Cause I've never been able to read my boyfriends' minds. Did I just think that? I thought. Sam wasn't my boyfriend. James was. Or was he? SHUDDUP.

James was just getting worked up whilst this happened, "You want more? I'll give you more," he said in a calm chilly voice that made you shudder and made your blood go cold. He spread his fingers and the tattoo instantly burned but he blocked out the pain. The grass around the moronic Sam burst into flames. Blue ones. They licked his pants softly until they were caught. Slowly he burned up his trousers. Yes, that would be fun.

I was frozen for once, then my eye twitched involuntarily. I felt...oddly protective of Sam. Like I didn't want anything to hurt him. An eerie feeling filled me as clouds rolled in and the atmosphere got much darker. Darker than they were before. My eyes, I could feel them, almost warming and glowing an electric blue - much like the flames on Sam -, but the rain started pouring down, drenching myself and Sam and James. Also smoldering the flames. "Knock it off." I growled, my voice amplified by the power. I was ever scared by myself. I couldn't imagine what James and Sam were feeling. James was probably feeling arrogant. Who knew what Sam felt? He wasn't as arrogant as James, or so I noticed.

I looked quizzically at Zan for a split second before my pants burst into flames. Strangely enough I couldn't-- oh, nope, here comes the pain. STYX!! A searing hot pain jabbed at my feet. The pain lingered and continued to rise up my leg. That is, until Zan completely drenched us in rain water. I nearly blacked out because of the random drastic temperature changes. On top of that I had a massive headache. I rubbed my temples, falling to my knees. I looked up at James, anger and hatred in my eyes. "Wow... you certainly have anger issues. Care for a cup of tea? You can boil it yourself. Be careful not to evaporate it. And don't take that as a compliment, hot head." I growled, my voice much deeper and... at least as frightening as Zan's. That was weird... I had never really heard my voice like this since... well, since now. I had a strange urge to get right up and punch the guy in the face.

So that's what I did. I came up as fast as lightning, or maybe even faster since I poofed extremely swiftly right in front of James. I pulled my fist back and swung it forward, staggering back after. It had made a satisfying crunch, and I hoped it was enough. But my hand burned... James must not have fully extinguished his fire yet. There was that same searing pain in my hand, but thankfully it slowly ebbed away, leaving a dark black spot on my hand.

My voice and, well, entire face softened as I turned towards Zan. "Thanks," I said, surprisingly mustering up enough power to actually speak. I walked over to her, feeling better already. I stared into her eyes, my soft hazel into her startling blue. "Nice boyfriend you got there" I "telepath messaged" her -- I figured that that's what I could call our little telepathy thing. I mean, I'm not that creative. But whatever. I ground my teeth slightly, just the thought of James causing me to clench my fists.

Zan gasped audibly. She sent him a TM, 'That was a death wish for me and you.' She had her hand clasped over her mouth and her eyes held shock. She just kept whispering, "Oh my gods, oh my gods, oh my gods." She frankly wasn't afraid of no one...however this hadn't really ever happened before. Her boyfriends had never fought over her. Well...except Will and Steven. But Steven was the father and Will was the song. She shook the thought away and grimaced. She knew there was only one thing left to do. Something she'd been working on with Chiron. A lightning and fog disspearing act. Zan summoned the fog and apparently Zeus did the rest. The master bolt flashed down out of the sky and hit the ground at pretty much the same time thunder shook the ground. Zan was freaked out as rain started to pour down from the sky on account of her father, not her own actions this time. Rain had plastered Sam's floppy hair to his forehead, hanging down into his making him look so much cuter. AGH, stoppit! Her conscience screamed. She gave in and grabbed his arm and sprinted off, dragging him behind her in attempt to get away and to her apartment before the fog cleared. She felt terrible about doing that to James. Probably crushing his spirit and stomping on his ego. Although he had enough ego for the three of them. "We need to get out of her." She hissed at Sam through the rain as they splashed through the near-flash flood. "Come on, if we run to the mall we can hide out in Hot Topic..." Zan trailed off, remembering that she quit after Mike had ticked her off and she shocked his eyebrows off. "We'll hide there, ok?"
