TALK ME DOWN
honestly, i don't understand how mom was so oblivious.
i had been scrubbing the red lipstick stains out of dad's dress shirts for years now. his secretary called the house too late for it to be a business call. he never arrived home before midnight. and when he did get home, he was quick to get into his study without duna seeing him. all of this screamed "i'm having an affair!"
and here he was, walking in at quarter after two with his hair and suit an absolute disaster. his old-white-man comb over was mussed up, the top buttons of his shirt were undone, and his belt was unbuckled. he must not have seen me because he strode right into the kitchen where i sat on the bar stool. i tapped my bitten fingernails on my coffee mug, pursing my lips as he walked past me. "y'know, mom is gonna find out eventually. you're pretty sore at hiding it." i gestured towards his get up, raising my eyebrows. he scoffed, throwing his brief case onto the island. "am i supposed to be scared? of your mother?" he gave me a condescending look, before turning towards the fridge.
