| this is your life. - Kalina Nikolova was born on June 6th, 1997. She lived an unusually quiet life with her mother and step-father, and half-siblings, and it wasn't until she was eleven that she discovered the truth about her heritage. She joined Camp Half-Blood, and remained there for the final few years of her life.
- In early June of 2013, Kalina met her one half-sister in Camp-- Raziel Swift. The two never quite managed to develop the relationship which Kalina wished they could have had.
- In late June of 2013, the Zombie Apocalypse hit Camp. During this time, Kalina met many people-- her crush, Samuel Mercer, being one of them. When it was finished, she suffered from PTSD among other problems, and from that point on, Kalina Nikolova was a broken girl.
- She may have suffered from mental issues after the ZA, but Kalina carried on. She made friends, and she rose above her issues to run for Cabin Leader of Hera-- a position which she won. At some point, she began to heal, something which she put down to the people in her life.
- In late 2014, Kalina unwittingly brought a Kitsune to Camp-- something which she never discovered. Kagami took her face, and continues to use it to throw people off.
- February 2015, Kalina Nikolova was found dead on Half-Blood Hill. She was only the first casualty of Operation: Extinction. Kalina hung around Camp for a few weeks as a ghost, newly healed of the scars she'd gotten during the ZA, until eventually she moved on.

| goodbye, kalina nikolova. Death. It was inevitable. It came quicker for some than for others, but one thing was always definite. It was final.
Demigods were different in many ways, but in that sense, they were the same as mortals. They lived, and they died. Some died heroically-- albeit, in a way mortals never could be. But there were other ways to die. Ways nobody wanted to, but no one could deny they happened.
Kalina had liked to think that her death would be heroic. Once upon a time, that was the only option for her. She was going to be a hero, whether the fates wanted her to be or not. But things went wrong, somewhere along the line. She started as a girl with a bright future, great possibilities. Minor setbacks, that's all problems were to her. But in just a few months, Kalina Nikolova was unrecognizable from the girl she had been. The vulnerability and naivety she'd had was replaced by a cynical and cold outlook on the world.
Somewhere down the line, she had been broken.
And no amount of glue could ever fix the cracks.
Life had not been gentle on her, nor had the people, or the fates-- and like all good things, the Kalina people and knew and loved came to an end.
Her death was not what she pictured for herself. Not before. After, Kalina could have left this world in any way, and she wouldn't have cared-- but before was important, it was what mattered in the end.
Guard duty. Such a boring task. She would never have guessed that it would be where she met her demise. Kalina tried to run. There was a brief moment where she thought that this was a waste-- that this was not how she was supposed to go. But then there was nothing but darkness. When she came to, she followed the trail of campers. She pushed through the crowd to see what they were so intent on seeing-- clueless. That's what she was. When she saw the body of the brunette girl, who was so tiny, she realized why people hadn't acknowledged her.
She knew the truth.
And that was no one was ever going to acknowledge her again.
It was an odd feeling, being dead. All of a sudden, the things which had plagued her every moment of every day were gone. They didn't matter anymore. She could see how stupid she had been to allow herself go through that much pain. She saw how stupid she had been to push people away. And she regretted that she would never again get the chance to mend the problems she had caused.
But she also realized that the girl who had once wrote in a diary daily, who had been falling deeply in love with a sad-eyed boy and who had been so desperate for the approval of her half-sister... she didn't matter either. She was gone.
Who are you, when your before and after are both extinguished?
She didn't know. She wondered that, as they lowered her into the six foot hole. She questioned why, if those two parts of her, the two most important pieces, were dead-- how was she still there?
Death was an odd experience. One which Kalina would have wished on no one. But she accepted it. She accepted that the happy-go-lucky girl she'd once tried to find again was now dead forever. And she accepted that the girl who was made of broken pieces was also dead and gone.
In death, Kalina was finally at peace. | |
