Alec tried to shove away the feeling that he was being watched. It was always like this in the accursed labyrinth. Their surroundings seemed to watch their every move. Even the weird twig things that had no business growing from concrete walls but grew anyway appeared to have tiny, sullen, invisible eyes. Alec itched to set the whole lot on fire. There was an uncomfortably chilling feeling, like he was wandering voluntarily down the throat of a sleeping dragon.

He had been sent down the hole again, to complete what their previous search party failed to do: find kids who had gone missing in the maze. And he hated every moment of it down in the winding tunnels. Not that anyone else but himself knew. Their old team returned to camp a week ago, half drowned and almost sludgified by an eight headed hydra. Taylor had since left camp, admitting a new member to their search party. Alec could hear them now, walking behind him. Despite the noises they made, it was unnervingly silent. The longer the mission dragged, the more claustrophobic he felt.

Each piece of loose pebble they trod on made a sound that vibrated off the walls of the tunnel and echoed for ages forward. They had been on this tunnel for quite a while already -almost twenty minutes- if Alec could estimate time in the labyrinth. He was about to give up walking after a few minutes and likely dig his own passage through the maze when suddenly, corded vines appeared in front of him. He halted, not wanting to walk into the strange ropes.
