Adelaide Jenner ∞ -- aphrodite

Addie sat in the Nyx cabin living room, toying with her hair and trying to ignore the confused stares she was receiving. She had found a couch to sit on, one that nobody else had taken up, and pretty soon after sitting down, the night owl demigods mostly scurried off. A few kept peeking back in, most likely wondering why an Aphrodite girl was sitting alone in their cabin, but Adelaide didn't mind. She was in the dark building to see Jacob, and she happened to be extremely focused on the tv that was playing news. Of all things, of course it just had to be on the boring news.

The girl also had a hard time watching channels like fox news, and nbc, because there was almost always a murder case, a rape incident, a missing child. It brought her back to the childhood that she wouldn't dare relive; that was, until last night, where she had wound up spilling her life to a boy she barely knew, Jacob. The Nyx boy who was Addie's excuse for being so out of place. She was dressed in a pair of glimmering miss me shorts and a bright purple, loose fitting, long sleeved shirt. She stood out against the dull colors in the room. If you were a Nyx child just passing by the door, you were likely to see her, which was why people kept looking in, but never greeting her. They just watched her, and as Addie sat, she began to grow more aware of the eyes. Hugging her knees to her chest, Addie looked forward, her eyes squinting in order to avoid accidentally glancing at one of the other demigods. That would be extremely awkward eye contact.

Addie felt exposed and ripped open, because of the secrets she had spilled to Jacob, and being watched only worsened this. Maybe they all knew . . . Someone could have been listening. But no, they hadn't been. The daughter of Aphrodite did her best to listen to what they were talking about on the news, but it was about a man accused of murdering his son and daughter several years ago. It was too hard to concentrate on. Though his name was something like Bowen, Jowen, Uwen, all Addie could hear was Carter. Clamping her eyes shut, Addie took one deep breath before she stopped overreacting. It was ridiculous to be scared of the news. Letting go of her legs and stretching them out, Adelaide lost interest in attempting to look focused and glanced at the door way. Maybe it was stupid to have even come. Maybe she was supposed to forget about Jacob, but how could she? Not only did he know too many things about her, she really liked him. And she knew his story, or parts of it, as well.

Addie smiled to herself and began playing with a string on her shirt. She didn't feel worthless around Jacob. She felt like she was meant to be something bigger—born to be somebody.

it'll be alright ,

Jacob liked to sleep. It was quite plain and simple, and many other seventeen year olds around the world liked nothing else. It was normal, he guessed, and he was often ditching some of the camp’s lessons so he could get a few more hours sleep. One of the hardest things for him had always been getting out of bed, and he never failed to make a big fuss out of it. He rolled over once, pressing his forehead against the wall besides his bed and groaning. “Get up, drama queen!” One of her brothers teased, jumping off the bunk bed above him and crossing over to the door that led out of the room, going to see what and who was sitting in their living room. Jake didn’t care; it was probably some random girl that was here to see someone. They never came to him, seeing as most knew better than to try and get him out of bed. He stayed up late and he slept in late; it made sense for the Nyx campers.
After a few minutes of failing to get back to sleep, Jacob rolled out of his cosy bed, going into the bathroom to clean his teeth and get changed, making himself presentable; choosing to wear a short-sleeved denim jacket over a white shirt and golden chains, along with a pair of baggy jeans that hung extremely lox on his waist. Of course, he was wearing a pair of his perfect blue Supra’s. This meant that out of all seven tattoos that Jacob had on his body, only two were visible; the Japanese symbol in the crook of his right arm and ‘Believe’ written in the same place on his other.
Just as he let people get used to his hairstyle, Jacob changed it. Now, instead of it being all pushed up at the front, he left it smooth at the top and stopping just above his eyes, shaved shorter at the sides. He had to flick it out of his eyes a little, which was a bit of a pain in the ass seeing as he thought he had finally escaped the whole ‘hair-flip’ thing he had had going on a few years ago, but it seemed that it had returned. He didn’t mind, seeing as it wasn’t as much effort this time. All he really had to do was tilt his head to the side a little, making sure that it was pretty much close to perfect. This is what he did now, yawning as he walked through the doorway into his cabin’s living-room. It was dark, yes, but Jacob though nothing of it seeing as he could see just fine. He probably would’ve passed the girl completely as he headed for their front door but caught her sitting on their couch out of the corner of his eye, stopping and turning his head to frown at her.[color=crimson “Addie?” [/color]He questioned, and his siblings looked at each-other, probably glad that she wasn’t here for no reason at all. At least, Jake hoped she was here for him.
Getting on the couch besides her, his eyebrows staying raised on his forehead, Jacob didn’t turn to look at the TV, he was too confused with the Aphrodite girl besides him. All his siblings had practically left, one or two making suggestive faces at him but he persisted with ignoring them, not having time for their immaturity. The girl didn’t seem as emotional as she had last night, but Jacob was forced to remember it when they had both…well, both been in a bad place. He had shoved on a smile and forgotten it al practically, like he would do normally. He was looking as chirpy as he normal would, even if he didn’t want to take a look at the time; scared he would have a heart-attack at how early it was. At least he wasn’t having a bad hair day, which would’ve made him scream profanities, most likely.
Watching her fingers play with the string of her shirt, Jacob stretched out his arm over the back of the couch, a foot between them and pulling his right leg up between them, facing her. “What are you doing here?” he asked, a smile playing on his lips.

ooc; omfg, his hair is so amazing ahfnda

Addie didn't look over at Jacob when he sat down, but she smiled. She flipped her hair out of her face and stopped fingering the thread. "Morning," she mused, peering at the boy out of the corner of her eyes. "Jacob." She had been anticipating feeling all of her pain rush back upon talking to Jacob again, but she didn't feel any of it. She felt happy, content, perhaps even a little light. (if addie could feel unburdened enough to consider her mood light.)

Addie turned her head to face Jacob, a tugging feeling in her gut causing her to blush. "I wanted to see you again," she whispered. She wasn't really sure why, but she had woken up with a strange since of obligation. Most likely, she felt like she needed to check on Jacob, but he had been fine. Addie was the one who needed reassurance. Suddenly, the past night felt a bit like a dream, and she felt like she shouldn't be sitting with Jake. "If that's cool."

Addie's eyes flickered to the tv as the picture of a young boy flashed across the screen. The story about the man and his children was still playing. It must have been important to not flash by without discussion. The boy looked eerily like Jacob. The only difference was, that boy's father had likely killed the child. And Jacob was sitting with Addie. Shivering, the daughter of Aphrodite did her best to focus of her friend, or whatever Jacob was, instead of the haunting news story. "How're you feeling?" she asked, her face a pit pale. "That isn't Jacob. That is some man and two dead children. It's horrible, but not Jacob." Addie managed a meek smile, resting her head just under Jacob's arm.

it'll be alright ,

Seeing as he normally went to sleep early morning because he was a night-person, if you will, Jacob was nearly always tired. He didn’t realty have bags under his eyes, because he looked after himself with exercise and the right amount of sleep, but he would probably be yawning for a significant part of the day because of it. Take now, for instance, where Jacob couldn’t help a yawn escaping his lips, rubbing the sleep out from the corner of his eye and flicking his hair to the side. “It’s really early.” He stated without thinking, not really knowing why considering that that fact was pretty obvious. His version of early extended to four in the afternoon anyway. Most got used to his mood with the time after a while, just rolling their eyes and letting it pass without a comment, perhaps letting one or two patronising ones slip out now and then.
The corners of his lips twitching up into a wide grin when Addie turned to face him, he felt a slight burning at his cheeks when she said that she wanted to see him again, letting his eyes survey the room out of embarrassment. Well, it was embarrassing that she said it; no, Jacob was pretty relived that he didn’t seem like an idiot, it was just that he was always pretty nervous around girls. He was just good at hiding it. He was nearly eighteen, after all; he was expected to be used to female interaction and flirting by now, wasn’t he? He thought that’s what was expected of him, letting his tongue brush over his lips to keep them moist. He probably should’ve put some lip-balm on or something. Stupid thoughts like this always seemed to pass through his mind when he was around a girl, which was pretty obnoxious of him, he thought. “Yeah…yeah, that’s cool.” He nodded, looking back into her green eyes before unable to stop a light laugh erupting out of him, rubbing his forehead beneath his hair. You sound like such an idiot, he thought to himself, feeling weird because of how he was probably acting around her. It was stupid really, and not needed. Why couldn’t he just be a normal guy? Act like a normal guy that didn’t get nervous in positions like these. He was seventeen, for god sake! Granted, it would be excusable if he was thirteen or something, but not when he was almost a legal adult! Aye Carumba, he was good at pissing himself off.
Shuffling across the couch more and closer to Addie, he was quite relived that she had decided to lean into him rather than push him away, his smile staying on his lips. “I am great!” He exclaimed enthusiastically, trying to push away any memories of last-nights sadness and just let them both be normal, and happy, and for Jacob to be as energetic as someone who’s high. “How are…Addie?” He questioned, letting his eyes sweep over her in order to see what had distressed her. He frowned, his head snapping up to look around when his gaze fixed on the TV that lit up the room, his facing turning emotionless as a picture of Lucy flashed up. He tensed up, his lips parting as he listened to the woman on the TV. “It can’t-” He started, his voice breaking at the end of his sentence. Why was he on the news, after all this time?
Slowly pulling his hand away from behind Addie, he leaned forward, grabbing the remote control from the table in front of him, violently slamming his thumb down on the volume button to turn it up. After a moment, he got the gist of the story; one girl had been found dead, a boy was missing and assumed dead, and the dad had just been at a court appearance for his actions. One of Jakes’ older pictures flashed across the screen, and he was too much in a state beneath that cold mask to comment on how long his hair was back then, or the fact that he hadn’t hit puberty yet.
Burying his head in his hands, Jake’s face wrinkled up into anger beneath them, only managing to get out, “She can’t be dead. I was there…” He started at least, his eyes closing tight as his brain started to hurt. “I can’t…can’t remember it!” he choked.

ooc; Omfg Nico, baby, I’m so so so so sorry for the delay. School and drama and stuff :P you would already know about the drama though, cuz you were there. And you really hurt my hand when we were playing that game and I grabbed you and had to lift you off the ground. Omfg, you’re picking me up next time.

Addie rolled her eyes and snorted. "It's not early. It's 9:30." Addie was used to sleeping on a schedule. Everyone in her cabin set their alarms to exactly 8 o'clock AM, and went to sleep no later than 10 o'clock PM. They claimed that 10 hours was perfect for beauty rest. Addie never understood it, but it was literally impossible to sleep when twenty different phones started playing several different Brittany Spears, One Direction, and Justin Bieber songs all at once. "You'd have a heart attack if I told you what time I got up."

Addie looked upon Jacob's sleepy face and sighed happily. He was cute, even in the morning. How had she managed to start talking to someone cute? How had she started talking to someone at all? Especially a boy, after Carter? She had to be one of the only girls who could get over a fear such as hers in one night. She had kissed Jacob. That kiss had come after a childhood of beating. It astonished the daughter of Aphrodite that she had been able to find her own bit of power. "Good." Adelaide's voice was soft and somewhat cheery, though she felt a little weighed down. Her heart was pounding like it did when she was afraid, but now it was more nerves. The small talk didn't help. She possessed no ability pertaining to love that would make her mother proud. All she could even do as a daughter of the goddess of beauty was change the way people perceived her presence. She could stand out or fit in. It used to seem like a life saving talent, but now it seemed like nothing. Her siblings could make people fall in love with them. She struggled with talking to Jacob. Maybe the fact that they both knew too much about each other made things awkward, but Addie could easily admit that she lacked nessicary people skills.

Addie's eyes stayed trained on the tv, though Jacob's warmth made her somehow more sure that it couldn't be Jacob on the screen. She hadn't realized that he had noticed before it was too late. "It's sick," Addie explained, ripping her eyes off of the screen to stare at Jacob. She couldn't bare to look him in the eyes, so she set her sights on his nose and pretended to focus. The resemblance rattled her, and she fought to remain optimistic. There was no optimistic side of Addie, though. Only the unsure one. Confirming her suspicions, Addie felt Jacob shift towards the remote, and she brought herself back to the present. "What is it?" she asked, her voice shaking a bit. Jake seemed so focused on the show that she couldn't bare to say anything more. She wasn't math smart, or history smart, or book smart in the slightest, but she was observant and could usually pick up on things quickly. Judging by Jacob's reactions, she had been correct and thinking that the kid looked like him.

When Jacob put his head in his hands, Adelaide surveyed her surroundings. There were only two other kids in the room, but they were both staring at their distressed brother. Addie's powers wouldn't come in handy, so she scowled and waved her hand at them, motioning for them to leave. "It's best if you come back later," she sharply whispered, and because she was a daughter of Aphrodite, the two boys listened to her. Maybe she had a little charmspeak in her after all, even if if never really showed. Maybe it only came out through commands that were beneficial. Maybe she was pretty enough to be listened to. (most likely the latter ...)

Still, the brothers left, and Addie rested her hand on Jacob's back awkwardly. Unsure of what to do, she rubbed slightly before shivering and removing her hand. How would she want the situation handled? The girl had to be Lucy, unless he just had another abused friend that he wasn't mentioning. "It's ..." Addie didn't know what else to say. It wasn't okay. Jacob just found out that his sister was dead. Nothing would likely ever be okay again, so she couldn't reassure him and have it mean a thing. She felt very useless sitting on the couch next to the son of Nyx, like she often had before meeting him, and she shrunk into her seat a little bit. "He's going to rot in hell now," Addie whispered, leaning close to Jacob's ear and speaking as softly as she could without breaking. "Maybe they'll decide to kill him now." Though Addie was trying to be positive, her face was twisted in an uncomfortable way and she looked ready to cry. Something similar could just as easily be happening to her, which made her the completely wrong person to have comforting you. She understood. She wouldn't sit and tell you that things will get better because she knew they wouldn't, not for an excruciatingly long period of time. She couldn't whisper her condolences and keep positive. She wouldn't even tell Jacob that it was okay, because she knew it wasn't. It was so not okay. "I'm so sorry, Jacob. Terrible things happen to the greatest people. It isn't right. I'm sorry." Addie hadn't planned on apologizing, but she knew she needed to say something.

What would it be like seeing Carter on the screen, possibly hearing about how he had killed a little girl, after being rumored to have killed his would-be-fifteen year old daughter? A knot tightened in Addie's stomach and she bent over like Jacob, taking loud deep breaths to keep from making any other sort of noise. She wheezed several times, but other than that, she was keeping her cool. The look on her face gave her away. She could have been shot in the ribs and have on the same expression.

i will catch you if you fall
Jacob would bet anything that he would be yawning until midday, just because of who he was and what he was like when it came to an issue like sleep. Logically, it made sense for him the wake up later than, say, Addie did, because naturally he had more energy in the night so it was harder for him to calm down and get to sleep. That’s why he groaned when Adelaide told him the time, looking at her incredulously. “Oh my gosh, it’s so early.” He complained; although he would much rather have Addie come at such a bad time than not at all. And he had gotten up himself at this indecent time, perhaps knowing that the blonde girl was in the building along with him. Or maybe it was just time for him to wake up, which was probably the less cheesy option, so he would go for that. He could be pretty cheesy and romantic, but he thought that that maybe was verging on creepy rather than flattering.

Believing that his enthusiasm and happiness had indeed rubbed out on Addie, he nodded once, brushing some of her blond hair behind the closest ear facing him. “Good.” He thought of what he would’ve done today, if Addie hadn’t knocked for him. He wasn’t really sure, but guessed that he would just…hang around, maybe get out of camp and go to the movies or something. He wouldn’t really do anything special, and he bet he would have a much better day with this daughter of Aphrodite than he would doing something average and ordinary for him. Jake also wanted to ask Addie about their kiss last night, but he wasn’t sure if it had been a mistake or not. He hadn’t thought it’d been, but something told him that they were about to open up a whole can of difficulty if they made a wrong decision. Also, none of them had decided to bring it up yet, which only told him that she didn’t want to talk about it or she was waiting for him to make a move. Wait. What if she was waiting for him to make the first move? What was he meant to do? Or say? Everything was weird for him, because the only proper relationship he had ever been in had been with his sister, and they had to keep quiet so he had never really asked her out on dates or anything normal like that. It had all been in the dark, and Jake had never had to ask a girl if she wanted to go out on a date or anything. Is that what he should do? When was the best moment to do it? All these questions repeated themselves over and over in his head but able to keep any emotion of his curiosity and frustration from his face.

Raising his face from his hands to look back at Addie, he let his hazel eyes slowly look back at the screen, finding a tall slender woman standing in front of a courthouse located somewhere in Stratford, his home town. She spoke about what happened, but none of it made sense. For one he wasn’t dead. And two, “Lucy was never killed! She was…was…” He exclaimed, slowly trying to fix his jumbled-up memories of that night. Fractions of dreams also came to mind, picturing it all in his head, but he couldn’t remember all of it. Just glimpses. It was torture for the boy, and it hurt his head and heart. He looked back at the girl next to him again, trying to answer her question as calmly as he could. “It’s-it’s me.” He explained, looking ahead again.

Oblivious to anyone even else sharing the living room with them, Jake ran his hands through his hair yet again, his hands starting to shake. This wasn’t meant to happen; he was meant to be safe and out of danger now camp was a place for him to forget about all of this; not have to embrace it all over again. This was sick; insanely sick. Jacob jumped slightly upon feeling Addie’s hand on his back, leaning into her slightly when telling himself that she was only trying to comfort him; make him feel safe again. He took a deep breath, grabbing the remote control for the tv again and slamming the volume back down, realising that it had almost been shakig the ground with it’s high volume. “We don’t a death penalty in Canada.” He told Addie, shooting down what must have been her comforting words with plain facts, but managing to nod anyway. “But he most definitely will be rotting in hell.”

Feeling Addie’s arm brush against his own and feeling her move, his head snapped sideways to watch her, thinking that she was getting up for a moment. A frown pressed onto his angry expression, trying to make it comforting but only managing fear. Tears glistened in his hazel eyes and no amount of blinking would erase them, having to ignore them instead. He put an arm around her, moving his face near the side of her face. “Addie. Relax. What’s wrong?” He asked quietly, closing his eyes as he tried to calm himself, wanting to forget all about what he had seen on the screen, his nightmares coming alive. “Remember what I said last night; it’s just me and you, okay? Forget about everything else. Why are you getting emotional?”

Addie's eyes flickered from the screen to Jacob while she forced herself to listen to what was being said. Her concern and fear threatened to shut her ears off, but she didn't let that happen. It was painful, but she remained aware of what was going on. It didn't take long for her to assume that the girl was important, and surely very special to Jake, but she would never have guessed that it was Lucy. Lucy was his sister? She was going to speak up, but she decided against it. Who was she to judge? She wasn't close to having any normal relationships. "She didn't have to live through any more. Alone." Addie shouldn't have been trying to be optimistic, but this was something about Jacob that she couldn't begin to fully understand.

"That man is your dad?" Addie sucked in, taking a deep breath while shaking her head. It was more of a statement than a question. "Owen Bradford? You acted as if I had it worse. I didn't. My dad never killed me ... I ... I'm selfish. I can't—" Adelaide stopped, positive that she had only been making things worse. "Some people who get caught for committing crimes like that kill themselves. There's no mess, and it's over. Would Owen ...?" Addie trailed off and shut her eyes, closing them tightly. She wasn't going to ask any more questions. "Surely they won't let his case go. He's going to get punished. Somehow ..." Addie tried to look into Jacob's eyes and smile, but she couldn't, so she just stared. Her gaze was strained as she fought her instinct to react. She wanted to be weak and give in, but she didn't let herself fall. Jacob remained more controlled than that, and she needed to top him, to be some sort of rock.

Addie caught the pain in Jacob's face and cringed. She felt what he did; a bit of anger, a lot of fear, worry. Slowly, and reached out to hold his hand. Her's was trembling slightly, and she couldn't hide her disgust at the situation. They didn't need to broadcast people's lives like that. Everyone in the New York-Canadian area now knew his story, and it was the first time he was hearing about it. She couldn't piece together why he didn't seem to remember anything, but Addie didn't care about it for long. He was quite nearly crying. How was he not? She wanted to say something comforting, but everything that came to her head was just human instinct. 'It's okay, I'm sorry, don't cry, it'll get better, it just seems bad.' She wouldn't mean any of it. Awkwardly, Addie tried leaning into Jacob a bit more. His arm wrapped around her, and her breath caught in her throat. "Why aren't you?" she mustered, nuzzling closer. "I was just ... putting myself in your place." That was a slight exaggeration. She was being selfish and not keeping her cool yet again. She didn't really ... have a cool. "I couldn't." Addie turned her head slightly so that she was facing Jacob, painfully aware of how close they were. "It used to seem easy," she admitted with a laugh driven by hysteria. She was so unnerved that she lost sense of everything, including her reactions and emotions. "Having a burden like ours. Looking back, I regret every single minute—this isn't about me." Addie put her hand on Jacob's waist opposite to her nervously. "Did they have assemblies at your school about abuse awareness and stuff? They used to tell me 'If you think somene I struggling, help them Addie. Not everyone has it as easy as us.'" Addie shook her head. "No one knew. No one helped. But I'm as fine as I can be. You're not." She touched Jacob's chin and shook her head again.

She would kiss him if she thought it wouldn't make things worse, but since she knew that the timing was completely wrong, she drew back her hand and looked forward. Her eyes stung. Her throat stung. Everything stung, except her chest. It felt sore.

i will catch you if you fall
Jake had never been in a position like this; not that he could remember, anyway. When he was growing up, attending a boarding school meant that he was sheltered away from the centre of his father’s hate, and he had been careful to hide any signs of bruising or pain from his peers and teachers when back at home and going to another regular high school. Hiding all of this from people was helped also because he had never seemed like the kind of boy that would be going through something as horrific as this, making up for his sister’s shyness and such by being the…loud one in the area. In class, before and after Lucy had left, he would often be the centre of everything, and he had gotten suspended from school a lot more than he should. He wasn’t easy as a kid, that was for sure, but Owen was too pissed most of the time to even acknowledge the fact that Jacob would be in bed instead of at class, and he would only sober up if he had to attend an appointment with the head teacher because of him. A teacher once said to Owen; “I have thirty students, and one. When he’s good; the whole class is good, and when he’s bad; the whole class is bad.” He had a heart of gold, but he wasn’t really the one to just sit and listen. This is one of the main reasons why he had never been in this place before; no one had ever questioned his life at home, or why he had the odd cut and bruise here and there. He was good at pretending everything was alright, although he felt as if he was on the edge of breaking down right now.

“But she wasn’t alone.” he protested, not trying to snap at Addie but just feeling weird with all the emotions and thoughts running through him. "She wasn't alone though; we had each-other." He couldn't be sure that Addie would be able to pick up on he much he actually meant that statement, but he was not sure about how he would feel If this girl guessed about Lucy and he, knowing she would be disgusted with how he and his legal sister were dating.

Taking a breath to steady himself and make sure his voice was still normal...or, at least, as normal as it could be in a situation such as this one, Jacob let his head move slowly if a regretful nod. "Yeah, that's...that's my dad. Owen Bradford, Lucy Belle Bradford, and Jacob Drew Bradford." The son of Nyx confirmed, letting his gaze flicker from Addie to the screen for a split second, finding his father still standing and speaking. Even though Jacob had switched off the sound, it was obvious that Owen was trying to explain something desperately; his hands shaking and moving animatedly along with the rest of him. Jacob did tear his eyes away though, feeling disgusted with himself for being from the same bloodline. "Owen never killed me though, obviously. Neither did he Lucy. And you're not selfish." He added in barely even a whisper, stopping any tears from running down his cheeks by rubbing his thumb In the corner of his eyes. Jake didn't look away again however, returning Addie's expression and gaze as she stared at him, his own full of fear, anger and pain behind the eyes. "But I already thought he had shot himself. I was sure that..." He trailed off, his messed and mixed memories making it difficult to process the night everything had gone wrong.

Glad for the comfort that Addie met him with, Jacob squeezed her hand lightly as he kept a gentle hold on her, closing his and trying to block everything out for a moment. He and Lucy had played this game when he was younger where one person would close their eyes, and the other would do everything they could try make them blink, laugh, or move at all. It seemed stupid, looking back, but It had kept the two children entertained while their father was out drinking himself dry. "I don't know. I just hadn't hit me yet, I guess. The shock. I'll be crying later, I bet." Jake would be lucky if he made It two minutes without breaking into hysterical sobs. He just didn’t want to do It in front of this girl; unsure how she would take it and react. "Don't put yourself in my shoes; you won't like what you find." he admitted honestly.

Feeling Addie slowly embrace him more with every sentence, the boy couldn't help but notice how the girl was deciding to embrace him more each time, not thinking that this was the best time for them to perhaps start making-out, assuming that's what she had in mind. He kept her hand though, even when she pulled back from him a little. "Yeah, we had those assemblies. Honestly, I never went to them. Me and Lucy went to hide out in a classroom or cupboard or something until it was over. We didn't want to go to them, because Lucy was scared of saying something, and getting us all into trouble." A single tear rolled down his cheek, rubbing it away quickly with the back of his fist.

Addie signed contently as Jacob squeezed her hand, though her eyes threatened to give away her true immense pain. It was wrong, it was so wrong, for Jacob to have to endure this. He should have had a mother. He had Nyx, but why hadn't the heavenly father blessed Jake with some sort of escape? Had Lucy been there for him? Addie couldn't ever know. She wouldn't even know. She wasn't insensitive enough to ask. "It's okay to cry," Adelaide whispered with a smile. "I don't usually, but I have around you. I understand."

She didn't understand. It was so difficult to comprehend what her friend ... boyfrie— ... Nyxie was going through. Last night had been easy. They had seemed so balanced. She wasn't aware of the whole other side to Jacob's story, and again she found herself chanting, "it's not fair" inside her head. "I don't want you to hurt," Addie muttered through a gasp. She allowed herself to look over at Jacob, her hair falling into her bright green eyes. "What do you want to hear right now?" And with that, Addie regretted asking. She couldn't tell Jacob that Lucy was going to be okay, or that she was in a better place, or that things would go back to normal, or even that Owen would get what he deserved. But she could lie to him about almost anything else, if he so wished.

Her slow brain suddenly clicked with something he had said before, and her eyes flashed with confusion, though she forced herself not to squint or lower her eyebrows. So he had been romantically involved with Lucy? Through the faint buzzing that the tv was making, Addie could hear a few words being spoken. Adopted, incest, wrong. She shuddered. Jacob wasn't wrong. The actions he had taken weren't wrong. Owen was wrong, and sick, and no better than Carter's sexual abuse. "It's not wrong," Addie whispered, faintly, and barely audible. She looked back hesitantly at the tv and nodded, twice as sure of herself. "You can't help who you fall in love with." Addie quivered, because she knew she had been half trying to convince her own self of the statement. She didn't want to have to live with her past, or know that someone else had been under the same branch of pain, but there was no denying it know. She felt too strongly about Jacob to let him slip away. She couldn't. It would hurt more than staying and fighting.

Addie sighed for the billionth time and tried to force her brain to think about school. "If the teachers had noticed I was gone, they would have suspected something wasn't right. I wasn't—I'm not smart enough to lie convincingly about things like Carter. They were so curious sometimes." Addie smiled, but it was because she was admitting to her own lack of intelligence, which was something she didn't do often. She hated when people called her stupid, or a dumb blonde. It stung like lying. "I wished for a new life as often as other kids wished to go to Disneyworld, or to get a puppy." The daughter of Aphrodite felt her stomach churn, but it felt better to know that she could talk to someone. She was possibly being too open again, but it felt like a safe environment for twice in her life. If she was ever going to come clean, she needed to seize the moment, because in the future, she planned on filing her "Past" folder away, and not digging it up again.

"We can ... go somewhere else, if you'd prefer ...?" Addie wanted to find comfort, and she wanted to get away from the tv, which kept spitting out phrases like "relationship, beat, abuse, and wrong." She couldn't help but shudder. Why, why, had they decided to air the case so publicly? The public needed to butt out. The public was hurting the one person she cared about.

i will catch you if you fall
Jacob really didn’t like to cry though. No matter what Addie said – no matter how many times she would say it was okay to cry in situations like these and that she could be the only exception to this rule like he was to her – he still was hesitant. “Yeah, but you’re…you’re a girl.” He protested, putting emphasis on the ‘girl’ as if it explained everything. It was quite sexist of him, really, but he didn’t have to time to think it over right now, because was unable to hold them back any longer, the hot tears quickly pouring out of his eyes and rolling down his cheeks. He quickly let go of her hand, burying his face in his own as if it would hide him from anyone else. As if no one would be able to see that Jake was pouring his heart out in the most emotional of ways. He was one of the more sensitive of boys though, and he probably didn’t hold his tears back more than any of the others. The last time he had cried had to be little over a month ago, when he had been, well, stuck in an elevator. However, this elevator had been packed with people, and Jacob was incredibly claustrophobic. You couldn’t blame the man, could you?

The lighting in the room had already been pretty dim, but it seemed to get darker as Jacob persisted to struggle with all his emotions and feelings. To the point where it literally became pitch-black and it took the son of Nyx a minute or two to realise this fact; especially when he saw the same anyway. “Sorry.” He quickly mumbled, wiping his cheeks with the back of his hand and sniffling, stopping whatever he was doing and letting the lighting resume to its normal strength. He found it difficult to remember that other people couldn’t adapt to the dark as quickly as he could, and he had to remember to be considerate of others.

The young man leant back into the plush couch, moving closer to Addie again but not putting an arm around her or anything, wiping his clammy palms of the leg of his jeans. He sucked in a deep breath, trying not to lose it again. He let his hazel eyes move across the room, trying to distract himself from anything other than the screen. He needed something else to think about rather than the tv, but it was up pretty loud volume wise and the main source of light for the room. All his could see out of the corner of his vision was the moving of people on the screen, flashes of images and the droning voice of a woman as she explained it all in extreme depth. Was there really any need? All she probably cared about was the money she would get for covering and representing this story, rather than what had happened. This was Jacob’s nightmare, and his ghosts had just come back to haunt him much too early. “That everything will be alright, I guess.” He shrugged, feeling defeated. His didn’t turn his head towards the girl next to him as he said it, keeping his gaze low. More of his siblings hurried across the room and out, perhaps worried that they might be dragged into whatever was going on if they didn’t leave.

Jacob did look over at Addie however when she showed that she had indeed caught on, and a frown pressed across his features out of confusing as he wondered why she hadn’t had a go at him. “What?” he spluttered, not knowing why he was getting angry when she had basically said what he wanted her to say. “No! You’re meant to tell me that it’s disgusting! That I’m disgusting! She was my sister! And we…we…” He jerked his head in another direction, his jaw clenching. His ADHD wasn’t as strong as other camper’s, but it could still have its moments, and right now he was on the edge of screaming and sobbing hysterically.

Glad that their conversation was slowly removing itself from him, even if only for the moment and in the smallest of way, Jacob sniffled again as he looked back over at his…friend? He didn’t even know what to consider her even more. They had kissed, which gave him the impression that they were something more, but none of them had made any attempt to verify what they were. But now she knew all of his dirty little secrets; the stuff he would never have told anyone. They had to affect anyone’s opinion on him, right? She knew about Lucy and he, and he knew about how Carter had sexually abused the girl. Man, they had both had enough of a messed up past to share with everyone else. “Lucy was older than me, so she left school before everything got worse…like, the few months before…” He gulped, his head moving to the television but keeping his eyes fixed on Addie. “And the teachers thought I would be making it all up if I tried to tell them. They’d tell me to stop trying to pull pranks, and take something seriously for once.” The corner of his mouth twisted up into a small smirk, wishing he could have gone through school without having to leave for boarding school, or having to worry about any of other pupils seeing any of the scars he had all over his body. He could get away with most, saying that it was just because of sporting accidents and such, but it had still scared his quite a bit now. They were harder to see nowadays, but the faint pink line on his side leading up to his Hebrew tattoo was still visible, and most definitely the worst.

Nodding quickly, Jacob clambered up from his seat on the couch, turning his back to the tv. “Follow me.” He told her quietly, pulling the waistband of his jeans up slight, but not enough so that his butt was covered. Oh no, he would never do that, because Jacob had some sort of obsession with always having his pants lower so you could see his boxers. Adults would tell him to pull them up, but it was fashion. Plus, his boxers right now were bright pink, and it thought that was pretty cool. He moved forward to the door leading off into the boys area of the cabin, popping his head through the door to find that it was empty. Thank gods. He gestured Addie in, clicking the switch on the wall to turn the light on and moving to sit on his own bed, which was messy and unmade. “This sucks.” He complained, running a hand through his hair and accidentally messing it up due to the layers of sweat that clung to it.

Addie bit her lip and shivered, finding it upsetting to watch Jacob play off his emotions. She understood, she hated crying, but she knew it could be the only release. Feeling ultimately conflicted, the demigod decided to let Jacob say whatever made him feel better. She was going to be the helpful sideline friend for once, instead of the girl who blending in or spoke up. "I know, you're right, I know." Addie repeated herself as she used her thumb to wipe a tear off of Jacob's cheek. She smiled sadly, figuring it was her way of showing some support. Addie looked tired and weak almost suddenly as she tried to retain the sounds of Jacob's crying. It was threatening to tear her apart, not because she was so attached to Jacob, but because she felt a connection to the reason he was crying. His abusive dad had gone too far. It stung to just think about.

Adelaide stared blankly at the son of Nyx as he covered his face and the lights dimmed. She didn't have the energy to wonder what was happening, and she was practiaclly too out of it to notice. Her eyes were trained on Jacob's hands. She didn't want him to have to hide his face from her. Although she found it pretty admirable that he was keeping himself safe, she felt the pain of everything. It seemed like they were in the same mental room, and once Jacob's walls collapsed, hers did too. Eventually, she could see her friend's face, and she sighed almost happily. "It's okay," she responded, though her tone was flat and slightly higher than usual.

As Jacob shifted closer to her, Addie tensed up and refused to look at him. Her head faced forwards, her neck stiff. She didn't want to tell him that everything was going to be okay, because that was lying, and there didn't seem to be much honesty left. Hearing him ask for it caused her to cringe. "I ... I can't ..." Addie turned her head and desperately tried to communicate with Jake what she was feeling. She wasn't trying to be rude. She was trying to keep some sort of truth to their conversation. She didn't want a false statement to sneak in an poison everything. "Things will be different," she stated dumbly, blinking back tears. "They'll be okay, I guess. It won't seem okay, but it'll be okay." Addie looked thoughtfully at Jacob and felt her heart accelerate inside her chest. She still didn't know whether or not Jacob was her friend, or something more, but she did feel a flutter in her chest at just the thought of him. It was wrong to think petty thoughts at a time of such depression, but for once, Addie felt teenage girl emotions.

Addie looked away under Jacob's judging gaze as he realized she had grown a brain and processed the situation. Hearing his voice made her shiver, and she cast a glance back at him. She felt like a dog being scolded, and her face burned with embarrassment, and slight anger. "Not what," she snapped, balling her hands into small fists. "I'm on your side, remember?" Her head was cleared, but she knew she had to argue. "She was there for you. You were there for her. I get it. I was the girl who didn't have anyone. You did. So what. Why should it matter that techniqually she was your sister? Techniqually isn't wrong. Techniqually is a loophole." Adelaide calmed herself down and tenetatively placed a hand on Jacob shoulder. "I'm sorry. You cared about her. That's all that matters, okay?" Addie squeezed Jake's shoulder and pulled back her hand, holding it close to her chest and she watched the boy.

Addie scampered off the couch and fumbled for a few steps, not trusting her own legs as she walked. Blindly following a boy wasn't something she had pictured herself ever doing, but she stumbled after Jacob, and almost grinning as she did so. Her throat hurt from holding back sobs, and her hair and tosseled, her eyes pink. She looked somewhat crazed, but the looks from other Nyx kids didn't bother her as much as the sour pit in her stomach did. She was glad to see the sight of they empty room, and without much thought, she sat on Jacob's bed next to him. "I know ... I'm so sorry ..." Addie closed her eyes and sniffled. "It was so wrong ... How that lady could talk like she did. How they talked about you ..." Addie frowned and crossed her arms. She wanted to hug Jacob, or something, but she wasn't brave enough. So she rest her back on the wall and looked lazily at the boy as if he had all of the answers. "I'll stay until you want me to leave," Addie added with a sure nod.

i will catch you if you fall
The son of Nyx wished that he could just dig a hole and bury himself in it. He was done with feeling like crap. He was finished. Everything Jacob had struggled to keep a secret for the past few months had exploded out, and he bet it would be all over camp soon, because they couldn’t be the only ones in all of camp that had decided to watch the TV and stumbled across him. And it wasn’t hard to be able to tell that he was the boy, even though puberty had only really started to kick in upon being here. He dreaded what would happen if everyone knew, and he guessed that they would believe him to be sick in the head, and he would be deemed an outcast. He was good at fitting in with people, and he thought he was currently perceived as yet another normal teenager at camp (well, as normal as a Demigod could get). Why couldn’t he just have had a normal life? With a normal dad that cared about him, and a sister that he didn’t fall in love with, and lacking all this mythology stuff? Life would be so much simpler.

Why was Jake trying to make an enemy of Addie, when she was trying to reassure him that he didn’t think he was a freak? He confused himself at times, and he was doing it now. He dug his short, bitten nails into his palms as his fists clenched again, the biceps in his arms moving beneath the sleeves of his denim shirt, suddenly feeling hot in his own clothes and skin. He watched as Addie turned red, looking down at his Suprah high-tops for a distraction.“So what? We were both abused, so that makes it fine? That makes it fine that we broke the law? That makes it fine that we went against everything that is considered normal and right?” He shut himself up again, looking at Addie again when he felt her place her small hand on his shoulder. He nodded once, his eyes staying low. “Yeah, me too.” He didn’t really know what else he could say in this position. They had already said goodbye too much in the little time they had known each-other, and each time it didn’t change anything.

Jacob pulled his knees close to him despite wearing trainers, knowing that there was no mud on the bottom of them or anything. It would bother him normally, but right now he wasn’t really worrying about there being anything on his bed. He let his forehead fall forward against his knees, closing his eyes and just listening to what Addie had to say. “I know.” He sighed, immediately thinking of what Lucy would say and do if she was here right now. She would probably try and cheer him up, getting him out of the cabin and just…outside. She always seemed to know how to make him feel good. “Alright.”

There was a moment of silence where Jacob didn’t speak or make any attempt of stirring up conversation, looking around the room as he though. The room would normally be dark if he hadn’t turned the light on for Addie’s benefit, the walls covered in pictures and posters besides their beds. He was used to the feeling of all the eyes of Selena Gomez, Megan Fox and other famous women on him, having his own share of posters above his bed, along with pictures from when he was younger; with his friends, and with his just messing around. It didn’t matter. The girls’ room was exactly the same; except their posters were of One Direction, Justin Bieber and shirtless male-models instead. It weirded him out a little; especially when he thought there was a freaky resemblance between Justin Bieber and he, but he just couldn’t seem to put his finger on it.

Letting his legs fall back off the bed again, Jacob fell back against the bed, staring up at the star-covered ceiling. “She could still be alive, you know. They were wrong about me being dead. Maybe they found the wrong girl or something.” He offered, although he highly doubted it himself. He had a funny feeling that he knew she was dead at the start; a tingling at the back of his mind. He raised his head to look at Addie, who had leant back against the wall, showing a slight and pathetic smile. He shuffled over, lying the right way but keeping his legs off the edge of the bed, knowing that there wouldn’t be much room on the single bed if he decided to be selfish and steal all the space. He stretched out his arm besides him for Addie to rest her head on, wanting to be embraced. “Thank you. You’re a great…friend.” he frowned, his uncertainty towards their relationship being shown.

Addie stared blankly at Jacob as he spoke with what felt like built up tension. She felt like she was being scolded, and she couldn't quite understand where their conversation had gone. Feeling slightly angry, Addie slat back a response of her own. "Why are you trying to make yourself seem like the bad guy? I could care less about all of that. It would be weird if she was your blood sister. It would be weird if she was your half sister, or you aunt, or teacher. I'm not saying that your life was normal! I'm saying it was okay!" Addie groaned and slapped her hand over her mouth, but it was too late. She had just yelled at Jacob, and it felt awful coming out of her mouth. "I'm sorry, Jacob ... It's just true ..."

Addie allowed herself to smile at Jacob's optimism, nodding along, though she didn't believe for a second that Lucy really was alive. The evidence against Owen had seemed strong, the lawyer prosecuting him confident. That smugness came from bodies, cold hard evidence, but she could be overly pessimistic after a life of studying things like lawsuits, murders, and abuse; after living through things like secrets, bruises, and abuse. Some things wired your brain differently, almost preventing change. Addie had grown to see the darker side of things, and now she was definitely not looking on the bright side. She couldn't see an obvious one. "Maybe. I—yeah, maybe." Addie rubbed the back of her neck and looked away from Jacob.

Still, she practically curled up next to him at the first sign he showed of wanting closeness. She felt empty as well. Hearing about Jacob's dad had veered her mind to a dark place, and she didn't want to be in that place anymore. She laid on her back and rested her head near Jacob's shoulder without hesitation, surprising herself with her willingness to be touching someone. She did have to remind herself who she was with, though, before relaxing. "Friend..." Addie repeated quietly, glancing over at Jacob out of the corner of her eye. It didn't feel like the right time to mention any of last night to the son of Nyx, but just hearing the word outloud made her sick. She didn't want to be just Jacob's friend. She liked Jacob. Jacob was good for her. But maybe he was meant to be just her friend. Addie never saw herself getting romantically involved with anyone, she had never even considered herself capable of feeling anything but disgust towards another human being, but then Jacob came and changed everything she knew...

"I'm not really," she mumbled, staring directly up but not focusing on anything in particular. "If I was a good friend I would be comforting you more." Bagging on herself yet again? Check. "But I'm trying..." Addie leaned away from the boy so that she could touch his jawline, where his hair met his cheek, and brush his changed hair. She smiled sadly and half closed her eyes, feeling the events of the past few minutes already taking a number on her. "If anyone gives you a hard time about this, they'll regret it," she offered. Addie was pretty manipulative when it came to messing with people's minds, and she wouldn't hesitate to stick up for Jacob. She stuck up for people all the time, unless she was too afraid of being noticed. Now it didn't seem to matter anymore. She wasn't in hiding, at least in camp, as long as she had someone to talk to. She didn't have to be weak Addie if someone pushed her too far. That freedom felt good.

"Have I ever told you about my power?" Addie blurted out, dropping her smile and taking on a much more serious expression. It had just occurred to her what she could do, and it seemed to conveniently fit the situation. She could change the way otner's perceived her aura by making herself fit in or stand out. She could probably make it work for Jacob, too, if she wanted it bad enough. It had come in handy upon first arriving at camp, and it seemed like a good way out of negative attention now. "I think I can stop people from saying bad things to you." She bit her lip and relaxed again.

Ooc: Yes finished. 8D.

i will catch you if you fall
Jacob couldn’t help but wince as he heard how loud and annoyed his blonde friend had become, not knowing why he was making this a fight. There was no need for it, was there? He was meant to be agreeing with what she was saying, not going against it. He head tilted down as he struggled to argue back again, his chin pressing into the bottom of his neck. “I am the bad guy though.” He breathed, saying it to make himself feel bad rather than for Addie to hear. He liked giving himself stick for all his mistakes, and all the things that he sometimes regretted. No, he didn’t regret Lucy. How could he? But he regretted perhaps them actually being together, or even trying to be together. They shouldn’t have; it would have been better if they ignored any feelings they had towards each other and just act like brothers and sisters should. “I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t want to hang out with me anymore. I’m a freak...a…a weirdo.” Jake sniffled again, wiping his nose with the back of his hand, not being able to avoid being self-sympathetic. Everyone was at one point, right?

Addie might not be convinced that Lucy was still alive, but Jacob couldn’t let his imagination run away with itself, letting his mind wander again. She could be anywhere right now; it had been months since they’d last seen each-other. She could still be in the little town in Canada, but Jake doubted so; he had always known of her yearning to go traveling around Europe. He smiled at the thought of her sitting before the Eiffel tower, drinking a cup of coffee or something with someone she had been traveling with, not caring if she was with a man or not. If she was alive, Jacob knew that they would both have to move on, and he hoped that she had. He was still young and Lucy would be nearing close to twenty by now; she was alive to have a life too. He liked the idea of her having a boyfriend or something, because he had only ever wanted her to be happy.

Jacob had to admit that he felt warm inside when Addie moved close next to him, feeling the natural urge to reach around and place his hand on her hip. He did so, his right arm going behind his head so he could press his sweaty scalp and hair back against it, closing his eyes immediately so he could be wrapped in his own little cocoon of darkness, which made him feel more comfortable as the light in the room was too bright for him. He heard her repeat what he had said; perhaps listening to if she was trying to mock him for being uncertain. She didn’t seem sure herself, but Jacob didn’t want to wreck everything. She had a pretty twisted life, and so had he, and they had only just met. None of them had mentioned their kiss last night, because there had been more…important things on mind. Well, not important, but drastic. He wondered if he should mention it, but Addie spoke just as his mouth opened, wanting to stall and listening to her instead.

Eyelids snapping open upon the feel of her touch against the jaw of his face, Jacob watched her and tilted closer to her, letting the girl touch his hair. “I know you are. You’re great, Addie, I promise. You don’t have to be here, but you are so…that’s all I can ask for, I guess.” His full pink lips stretched into a smile, his boyishly-pretty features gleaming. He took his hand away from behind his head, letting it move to the side of her face instead, cupping her cheek between his fingers and palm. “Why? Are you going to fight them for me?” He asked with a grin, watching his thumb as it stroked the point beneath her eyelashes. He felt bad for having to bring Addie into this, seeing as it wasn’t her battle to fight, but he couldn’t go back. It wouldn’t be fair on her to push her away, no matter how closed off he wanted to be. He could deny it all to anyone else, but she was different. She was the only friend he had that at least knew and could understand what he had been through. He couldn’t let that go, could he? It would be something he would regret.

Biting his lip, Jake wasn’t sure whether he could take himself up on Addie’s offer, although it would benefit him a lot. He could forget that this ever happened, and would never have to worry that people were whispering about him behind his back. He could return to not having a care in the world, instead of worrying if people were actually lying to his face and really calling him a freak. And even if she couldn’t stop them saying it without him knowing, she might be able to stop them saying it to his face. “But then I would be using you.” He stated, “And I don’t want to do that.” Jake was pretty old-fashioned, all in all. He believed in all the things that most his age didn’t; that marriage mattered, that one-night-stands were very bad, and that it isn’t right to mess with anyone. That’s why he didn’t like this idea, even if the selfish part of his mind was screaming at him to accept to idea. “What would I do for you in return? I won’t let you do it without getting something back.” He watched Addie, a line pressing between his dark brown eyebrows as he frowned, stubborn enough that wouldn’t let her do this out of the kindness of her own heart, no matter how much she argued.

Addie rolled her eyes, but chuckled. "No, you're not. You're like ... Superman. You're special." Like Buzz Lightyear. Addie didn't know many Justin Bieber songs, and she wasn't familiar with many kids movies, but she did know Toy Story quite well, seeing as she was drawn to Disney, and she had heard Boyfriend. Her sister's walls were covered in the Boyfriend poster, and their personal iPhone docks were always blasting the song. It was okay, though. Addie didn't have any complaints. She shook her head at Jacob's attitude and smiled. "I can handle weird," she whispered to Jacob, something mysterious glinting in her green eyes. She looked serious, but also a little bit playful as she bit her bottom lip.

Addie shivered when Jacob touched her hip, but eventually relaxed into his arm. It was still unnatural to have someone touching her, and she wasn't sure whether she was comfortable with it yet or not. She had to take a minute to calm down before smiling at his embrace and keeping herself still. It did feel warm ... safe. That's all she really wanted in someone, a person to make her feel safe. And Jacob must have known how to calm someone, because he had gone through it himself. Addie held back bringing anything up, though. She had other priorities that consisted of being to boy's friend and not his girlfriend, no matter how much she thought she might have wanted it.

Adelaide shook her head and sighed loudly. "This is the only place I want to be," she tried to assure Jacob. Her voice came out shaky, though, even despite the fact that she had meant it. She was nervous, and she was trying so hard to make a good impression. It was probably best that she dropped her perfect girl act, though, before she hurt herself. "I'll get someone else to beat them up," she halfheartedly joked, snorting at herself for even considering standing up to someone. She would do it if the topic didn't hit so close to home, but to mock someone for their daddy issues? That was a low and familiar blow that she hoped no one at camp dared to throw. "I don't think you have anything to worry about, though."

Addie groaned, not sure if there was anything that she could do to change Jacob's mind. It was beginning to register to her that she didn't know him well enough to predict how he would react to certain things. He could be stubborn, carefree, hopeful, or dark and she wouldn't know the difference. Yet, something quickly came to mind, and the daughter of Aphrodite couldn't stop it from coming it of her mouth. "Kiss me," she pleaded, looking at Jacob with emotionless eyes, but an urgent tone. "You can kiss me, and we can be even." Addie's heart threatened to beat out of her chest, and she considered for a moment that she had made the wrong decision, but pushed the doubt out of her head. Addie wanted to have Jake kiss her. It was selfish, but true. Maybe for the first time, she was hoping for that sort of contact.

i will catch you if you fall
Jacob snorted when Addie disagreed with him, telling him that he was more like Superman than the bad guy. "Of course I am." He rolled his eyes, his voice sarcastic but not mean. At least the conversation had lightened, which was all he really wanted. Addie must know what it is like to be hating on yourself; he had already realized that she did it way too much. He had spent most of the time in each-other's company trying to tell her that she shouldn't be so negative. Now they seemed to swap roles, smiling at her slightly when she tried to cheer him up by saying she would be able to handle whatever level of weirdness he was on. "Yeah." He mumbled, not really knowing how to fill the gap of silence. He was thankful for her being there for him, he really was, but he just wasn't used to having someone know so much about his past. She knew everything now, even if the presenter on the television had made him sound more like a monster than he actually was.

The son of Nyx understood what she meant; he could only really imagine himself being here right now. It was pretty corny, but that feeling you get when all you want to do is be at home, with a person you really want to hang out with. One of his dream ideas of spending the day was either going out with his friends, and with something musical involved, or just spending the day in bed, chatting to his girlfriend. He guessed this was pretty close to that, except Addie technically wasn't his girlfriend, and he had just been crying. Crying always made everything bad, so he would try as hard as he could to make sure that the conversation turned better than it had been. The conversation could no where but up from here, right? Okay, he had stooped so low that he was quoting Justin Bieber. He really had hit rock-bottom. "I'm sure you will." He also took the same tone of her voice in his own, because he would never ask for someone to hurt another person, and especially over him. He wasn't a fighter by nature, but he would always fight for what he thought was right. He didn't like physical combat, yet mentally fought himself through things. Violence was never the answer. "You're going to sort it all out for me then?" he smirked, raising an eyebrow teasingly. "This is going to go well."

Jacob expected for Addie to come up with her own terms. Maybe suggest something that he could do in return for her. He didn't really know what, seeing as he didn't have any talents that she could really benefit from, but he thought that she would want something along those lines. If anything, he frown deepened when she groaned, wanting to know what she was thinking. Was she going to take back her offer because he would only except it with conditions? Was she going to argue with him and say that she wanted to do it out of the kindness of her own heart. He thought he had a good enough idea of what she was like to decide that she would want something along those lines, so shock played completely across his face when she said she wanted him to kiss her. She seemed serious, but he didn't straight away, wanting to question it first. "What...why?" He got out, thinking that this was a rubbish deal.

It wasn't that he didn't want to, because he really did. It was just that she was offering a lot more than that, and it wouldn't be fair to her if this was all she would get in return. He stopped frowning, letting his hand move along the skin of her cheek before finally letting his own face lower to hers, his eyelids fluttering to a close and kissing her gently. He hadn't really been in a position like this, except with Addie last night, since Lucy, and that had been both awkward and exciting. It was awkward because they could get caught, but that was also the reason why it had been exciting. This just felt safe, and natural. He didn't know whether there was much difference between the feelings, or which felt more...right. Jacob felt his face going hot, his cheek turning quite rosy and pink in colour but he didn't pull away. Well, not for a few seconds, and when he did he didn't really pull away that much. "We're still not even though." He told her, his hazel eyes opening to watch her.

ooc; ew fail post.

Addie raised an eyebrow at Jacob when he started to stammer, and shook her head. "Because I want to kiss you," she answered, staring unsurely at Jacob. And then he kissed her. Addie couldn't help but close her eyes and forget about what kind of trouble they were actually facing. This was how normal girls felt when they had boyfriends. Light, carefree, and a bit rebellious. It was nice.

But when the kiss ended, Addie had to remember that Jacob's father was on trial, her father could be anywhere, and Jacob was worried about his probably dead sister. "Oh, we're not?" she asked with a grin. "Are you still tired?" Hoping off the bed, Addie slowly trotted over to the light switch, flipping it off and shrugging. "It was too bright," she admitted, spinning around and catching sight of the tv through a crack left open in the door. Her heart litterally stopped. Fear gripped her, and she had to fight the urge to scream, or collapse no the ground. Her dad was on the screen. Her dad was in the courtroom.

Looking back at Jacob, Addie couldn't figure out how to form words. Her vision blurred and the room spun. He was going on about how Jacob might be alive, and they shouldn't charge Owen for double murder, and what not. He was talking about her. A good number of Nyx kids had gathered in the living room to watch the show, trying to see what all the fuss had been about, and the sound had been brought back up to normal. Sliding down the wall, Addie sat with her back pressed against it, breathing in and out at an increased speed. She wrapped her arms around herself and struggled to listen to what Carter was saying. "My daughter ... Not dead, she just ran away ... So let's think about ... Possible same scenario ... Abuse ... Not parent's fault." Addie shook. She was pretty sure her dad had called her Adelaide and not Anastasia, which upset her even more. "Jacob, look." Her father was still handsome, well put together, and as cunning as usual. He likely currently had six girlfriends and was hooked on some sort of drugs, too.

"Jake... It's... It's my dad," she moaned, nearly crying but choking the tears back. She didn't even realize that she had called the boy Jake, and not remembering that he didn't like it. "He's talking about me... And you..."

i will catch you if you fall
There was nothing Jake could do top also stop a grin appear on his lips, quickly followed by laughter. He leaned back on his bed and away from Addie, watching her as she jumped off from next to him in order to turn off the light. His pupils dilated, able to see just as easy as he had before, but feeling much more comforted by the dim lighting in the room. “No, we are not.” He confirmed, lifting his head up to run his hands and fingers through his hair, trying to tidy and stick it up. It annoyed him when it was a mess, for some reason. His hair was the only thing about his that he was actually concerned about keeping right, and after the emotional rollercoaster that had been the past hour, it looked like a hedgehog had died on his head or something. “Yeah, I am.” He confirmed, honestly wanting to just let his eyelids drop and fall back against his soft pillow. “Why? Are you tired?” he asked, not really sure where this question came from. Did he look tired? Probably; he always looked tired. He stayed p late into the early hours of the morning, didn’t he? And he had to attend camp exercises most days; he never got much sleep. That’s why he didn’t really get out of bed on days without early morning activates.

Rolling into his stomach and burying his face into the fabric of his duvet, Jake barely heard that Addie was talking to him, confused at first. He twisted his torso around to look at her, practically jumping up when he found her hyperventilating against the wall. He looked flustered, stuck on the spot as he tried to figure out what was wrong, his arms flailing in the arm before realising that she was talking about what was on the TV screen, not really sure that he wanted to know what was on it at first. Then he allowed his head to peak around the door, ignoring his siblings that had already started to crowd around the screen. At first, he didn’t know who the man on the screen was, but his hands instantly curled into fists upon the realisation that he was trying to decrease his father’s sentence. Granted, he technically wasn’t dead, but the man deserved to rot in jail for all the year he took away from Jake. He cussed loudly, some of his brothers and sisters turning to see him standing in the doorway but closing it on them, knowing that Addie was probably going to have a breakdown if she was forced to listen to more, but he caught enough of what Carter was saying before sealing the doorway.

Not knowing what to do, even though he had just been in this position a moment before, Jacob remained on his feet looking down at the girl, not sure whether he was meant to sit next to her and hug her or what. It hit much too close to home. He had had to spend countless nights trying to comfort Lucy and this is what she used to do. It really was a stab to the heart; watching her like this. He also didn’t comment on him being called Jake, seeing as most people forgot he didn’t like it after about an hour of knowing him, so Addie had done well lasting this long. “Your dad?” He frowned deeply, eventually kneeling down on the carpet before her, trying to meet her eyes. “It’s okay, alright? He’s…he’s sick.” He growled, his hands turning to fists once more. Jake hated him even more knowing that he was standing up for his dad, but acting like nothing had ever happened with Addie and that it was all her fault.
