I cleared my throat, but I didn't say anything. I was tongue-tied, and I couldn't think of anything to say. While painting, I fingered my guitar pick necklace with one hand. I sighed. Why was I so shy?

On the radio, one of my favorite songs came on. Need you Know. I started singing along with it softly, a smile plastered on my face. That was my kind of dream day.

Echo kept up her painting, and winced slightly, hearing another one of her favorite songs coming on the radio. It blared the first few lines, and the demigod couldn't help but to at least hum along. She was still humming at the end of the first verse. When it hit the chorus, she couldn't help but to at least sing softly along. "It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now..."

Echo brushed the hair out of her eyes, and noticed David was singing along as well. She smiled softly and returned to her painting, finding out that they were almost done. The demigod looked up, and found him smiling very widely. Echo found the sight just about as beautiful as, well, nothing compared to the sight of David grinning. She went back to humming after the chorus was over.

I kept singing, and I got just a bit louder. Not on purpose though, I loved singing the same volume as the music, but I wasn't going to blow out my vocal chords. So, I sang at a sort of medium volume as we finished up the car.

I moved my hand absently, and it accidentally rested for a few seconds on Echo's. I looked at her and blushed, drew my hand away, only to place it on a wet spot of paint. I chuckled at my own stupidity, and I blushed as well. Clumsy, I thought.

Echo heard his voice increase it's volume, which made her smile. She loved how smooth and inspiring the sound of it was. The demigod was caught up in the song, and almost didn't notice David's hand on her. When her brown eyes glanced over there, she saw it and blushed hard. Echo noticed that he pulled away the next second, and she felt back for blushing so hard, which only made her turn pinker.

Echo watched his hand go into wet paint, and she smiled again. She wasn't paying attention either, and got her good hand wet with paint. Feeling the chill of cold paint, the demigod looked at her hand with wide eyes. How could she be so dumb. Laughing to herself, she mumbled, "Hey, now we match." Echo held up her hand for David to see. She noticed that they had opposite hands painted, so if they were holding hands....

"Stop that Echo!!!" she quickly thought to herself, her face becoming red again.

I held up my hand, and noticed that our hands would be perfect together, the paint on each other's hands. I blushed even more, and I noticed she was blushing also. I could help but laugh a little. We were like shy kids, just getting used to the idea that there were people in the wolrd who liked the same things as us.

The song faded, and it was a commercial. I didn't care, because my eyes were fixcated on Echo's hand. I didn't even notice until my hand felt warmer that I had pressed my hand against hers. I was going to pull away, but I didn't want to. My brain felt like it had taken a vacation, leaving me speechless, blushing, and comepletly full of want. For the millienth time since I'd seen Echo, I wanted to protect her, and hug her like it was our last time seeing each other.

Echo felt him press his hand up against hers, which sent tingles up her spine, in a good way. She loved the warmth that it brought, and how she felt safe and protected. Her eyes fell on their hands, and she slowly entwined them with a grin. She felt the warmth spread through out her again, expect this was better. She couldn't imagine a moment without feeling like this, but then she remembered the past few minutes. Echo didn't want that for another while, she wanted to be loved, and she was almost feeling that.

Echo let go, and looked at those brown eyes, and they sucked her in again. She didn't know what she was doing, but she was leaning in, and soon felt lips on hers. Then it hit her. What one Earth was she doing?! Echo backed away and her eyes were wide. She didn't know what she just did. Now he would probably leave, and never want to talk to her again.

Echo wished she had just left their hands entwined, and just that way. Then he could've done something, and maybe it would've been just fine. Now Echo thought that she would never feel David again. She never wanted him to leave her, not that she was just beginning to think that she had more than a friend.

I shivered when our fingers untwined, and I almost fainted when she kissed me. It felt so quick, and it was a cautious kiss. But it was special, and I loved it more than anything. I wanted to deepen the kiss. Pull her into me, and let the warmth envelop me. Buts she pulled away, and I blushed so hard, I thought my face would overheat.

What did I do then? Did I kiss her, or reach for her hand? The truck was done, and now I sat there, looking in her brown eyes. Then I looked at her face. Her soft jawline, the curve of her lips. I knew what I wanted, but I wasn't a mind reader. If I kissed her again, what if she hated me for it. Then I'd never be able to bear seeing her, but i'd try anyway, and try to get through the pain. I couldn't let that happen. And I wouldn't let that happen. I didn't know how, but I had a feeling in my gut that it would all work out. That it'd be alright.

So, I cupped a hand on her neck, and pulled her close, so I coudl kiss her softly. It was a safe kiss, hoping and wanting.

Echo felt her heart beating both faster and louder, like it was about to explode. Her emotions were piling up on one another, making her very confused. Would he hate her for it? Or would he like it, just as she had? A reasonable amount of doubt was filling up inside her mind, and it confused her. Echo had never felt this much emotion in her lifetime.

She was chewing her lip cautiously, thinking about what the kiss meant. To her, it was the world in a short touch. The world that she had experienced with David in the past two days. Had she been to cautious? After all, David was a son of Aphrodite, did he expect more? The doubt continued to consume her thoughts, until she felt his hand along the side of her face. Echo looked at his eyes for a moment, before feeling his soft lips once more.

The tingle of happiness filled Echo up again as she kissed him back. Echo didn't expect him to kiss her again, making this their second kiss. The demigod felt the cautiousness of the kiss, reminding it of her attempt of a kiss. She wasn't really confident in her kiss, and it seemed that David wasn't to sure of himself either. Echo smiled under the kiss, and moved a step closer, deepening it.

Was it the tingles all up my spine? Or was it the happiness of the moment? Maybe the way the world was being blocked out, only the two of us? Or was it the warmth of her lips as she deepened the kiss? All of those were wonderful, like my own personal paradice. It was more than I could ever hope for. This was better than any song, and no song could ever compare to that feeling. I could pour my heart out in words, but I still wouldn't capture that moment.

I put both my hands on the back of her neck, pulling deep into the kiss with closed eyes. I felt like all cautiosness was gone, leaving only me and Echo, kissing in a room with a newly painted truck. Sure, it could've been more romantic, but I honestly wouldn't have had it any other way.

I tinge of boubt crepped up in my mind, wanted to suffocate my brain. But apparantly the power I had inhereted was too great. I parted my lips slightly, softly, carefully. I wasn't sure, but I had enough hope. Hope was enough for me any day.

Echo was running low on her oxygen supply, and she could tell. Her brain was getting slightly fuzzy, and apparently she had been kissing him for a while. Echo pulled away from the kiss and gasped for air, feeling her brain come back to her. She had almost forgot that they were in the forge, by her newly painted truck.

She turned her head to look at the door, which was wide open with Chandler and Steven looking in. Echo's face lit up brighter than any Christmas tree, in a bad, red sort of way. Her brown eyes were big and her mouth was gaping open"Um... " she said nervously, fingering the end of her shirt. "Well, helllloooo David and Echo." Steven said with a smile. "Friendly, aren't we?" Chandler said with a chuckle. Both of Echo's half-brothers burst out in laughter, making her face go a deeper red.

She felt like hiding in a corner and crying her eyes out. So much for a perfect moment, whatever that would've been. Echo looked from her two brothers to David, her mouth still gaping open and she felt like an idiot. Echo shut her mouth and bit her lip, still feeling very dumb and stupid, as well as idiotic.

I wanted to defend myself, but honestly, I felt utterly and completely embaressed. I rubbed the back of my neck, and my breaths came slow and shallow. I just sat there listening to the two boys laugh. I wasn't the fighting type, and certainly not the typr to tell people off. I tried to talk, but my words just sputtered, and that only made the boys laugh harder. My face was almost as red as Echo's, and I had no idea what to do.

I glanced at Echo and whispered, "Do you want to leave?"

Honestly, I wanted to leave. I didn't want to leave her, I just wanted to leave the two boys who were now, and quite literally, rolling on the floor laughing.

Echo felt like going in a hole and crying her eyes out. This just wasn't fair, they were having a moment! A good one too, which she hadn't ever experienced in her lifetime. What gave her brothers the right to just ruin it? The demigod looked up to see Steven and Chandler laughing. Her cheeks got redder yet, if that was possible.

Then she heard David suggest leaving. Echo couldn't speak, so instead, she just nodded. Anywhere else would be such a better place. Echo got back to her feet and dusted the metal shavings off her shirt and pants. She shot her brothers a death look, but that only made them start to cry, simply because of their laugh fits. "C'mon, let's go." Echo said softly, looking at David.

She felt like she would start crying herself soon, but held it in. There was no use sobbing now, considering it would do her no good. "Oh, do you guys have a make out spot?" Steven asked, laughing more. Echo's face the n burned with something different than embarrassment. It was anger. Without realizing what she was doing, a slap slid across Steven's face. "Shut up!" she steamed. Echo didn't know what else to say, but she felt bad for saying that. She never was the violent one. "Ouch." Chandler said, backing off, and taking Steven with him.

"I need some air..." Echo muttered, power-walking out to the beach, to breathe some.

Echo had done the exact thing I had wanted to do, and she was the one who actually did it. I was glad for it, because they'd stopped immeadiatly. But I was also a bit shocked. Echo wasn't violent, I knew that. So it came as a suprise when Echo slapped Stevens face. I felt a little bad for him, no matter how much he annoyed me. As I walked out, following Echo, I gave him a somewhat apologetic smile. It was the only thing I could do, really.

So, I followed Echo out untill we reached the beach, and it was about at sunset. Time had passed faster than I had thought. I didn't care though, no one was missing me.

I couldn't think of anything to say. So, I said what was on my mind. "Are you ok?" I asked Echo as I jogged up to her.

Echo was jogging down to the beach, her legs moving as fast as her brain was. She regretted hitting Steven, but not kissing David. As soon as she saw sand come into view, the demigod broke into a sprint. The water was reflecting the color of the sky. It looked like a painter had wiped his hand off on the sky, making multiple colors in. Echo looked at the beach, and near the shore; just sat down. She wrapped her arms around her legs and her head rested on her knees.

Echo felt so embarrassed, it wasn't funny. Now, knowing her brothers, she would be the laughing stock of the cabin for a long time. The demigod heard David say something, and muttered back a reply, "Yeah, sure." She brushed her hair out of her face in annoyance, and bit her lip. Why did she do it? Why couldn't she resist her urge to kiss him? If she would've just waited until they were somewhere more private, this wouldn't be a problem.

Sighing, Echo looked up at David. "I'm so sorry." she said simply. There wasn't anything else to really be said in her mind. She couldn't even begin to tell David how upset she was with her half-brothers. They were so immature, even though they were older than her. "Are you okay?"

I shrugged, and sat next to her. "As ok as I can get," I replied. I looked out, squinting, at the water. It was gittered wih light as if there were multiple light bulbs implanted under the water. "It's ok," I said, still looking out. "You don't have any control over what your brothers do. I understand. I've been embaressed enough times." I offered her a weak smile, that I couldn't quite put enough effort into. I sighed. I wanted to ask her, but I wasn't sure this was the right time. But, when else would I? I learned one thing from being popular; new spread fast. Like a text message, or an email, new was fast and furious, letting nothing stop it from getting to the next device, then the next, and then the next. It was a never ending chain. It would die down eventually, but I didn't know how far off eventually was.

"Would you maybe go on a real date?" I blurted out. I blushed, but I looked at Echo. "Like... I don't know... Um..." I fumbled for words. "A picnic maybe? Or, um..." I mentally slapped myself. For a son of Aphrodite, I wasn't a real good conversationalist.

Echo nodded at his reply. She had calmed down quickly, and forgiven her brothers, mentally. The demigod figured that she would apologize to Steven first thing tomorrow. She let go of her legs and leaned back on her elbows, finding it slightly more comfortable. "It'll be fine... yeah." Echo said, not really believing him. There were Aphrodite girls at camp, news would spread like fire.

She was stuck gazing at the lake's mirror-like appearance, when she heard David talking about going on a date. Her eyes instantly got wider at the mention of something like that. Echo obviously hadn't thought of what that kiss really meant. To her, it was almost a beautiful mistake, one she didn't want to take back. She never thought of it meaning something more than that, until she remembered that he kissed her after that.

"Ah, sure." Echo said with a nod. She looked and him a nodded again. "Yeah, sounds cool." she added, not wanting him to think she was half-hearted with the idea.
