meira sanzenin, daughter of demeter, 16
Meira took a deep breath and opened the door.
Then she sniffled a gasp. Uh-oh. She thought she'd chosen the wrong place. But where else could you find a botany book? In a library, right? But a nagging suspicion is on her mind: the Libbrary is for braniac kids--this is the lounge and heaven for the kids of Athena. A daughter of Demeter does not belong here.
But that's exactly why Meira wanted to read a book. She seemed to know only little about botany. Plants subject. Uh-huh. She shook her head and skimmed over the bookshelves. She stopped on a promising green book and snatched it. Lily's adventures. Figures. Meira put it back and snatched another green book. Miles' botany. Perfect.
Meira hurried over to a table, and sat on the edge. She put the book flat, mesmerized with the cover. She then flipped it to the first page and began reading.
"It doesn't make any sense," she said loudly, matter-of-factly after a while.

. Scott Aspholt . 17 . Son of Hephaestus . Fire user .
Scott didn't know what to do. His cabin leader had given him the day off, and he knew almost nothing about anything outside the armory. So he decided to go and read up, maybe chat, and then it'd be the end of the day and he'd be back in the armory again. Turns out, the day goes by an awful lot slower outside the armory than in. He pushed open the library doors, and the cool air-conditioned air surprised him. Then again, he was used to the hot air and flames. But the cooler air was nice for a change. He spotted a girl not far from him, hunched over a green book, reading intensely. He wandered over to the shelves, his fingers scanning over the titles. He really hoped he wouldn't light any books on fire, he did that at his old school once. Kicked him out for 'lighting matches.' Not like he did it on purpose... He turned his head around to the girl at her words. He slowly walked her way and slid into the chair across from her. "What doesn't make any sense?" He cleared his throat, "Sorry for being completely...rude. I'm Scott." He sighed, Great, now she'll think I'm a complete idiot..

"This book," Meira said automatically, not paying attention to whom she was speaking to.
The daughter of Demeter started reading more and mumbling words. "Seasons, huh? I know this. But it's not the tilt of world. It's Persephone's visits. Oh, look. Lilium superbum." Meira wrinkled her nose. "It's some kind of flower...." she continued mumbling words until she looked up and saw a burly-looking guy. Oh, great.
Meira instantly stood up and bowed awkwardly. "Oh, uh, hi. S-sorry about... before. Just engrossed to reading, you know," she stuttered, embarrassed. She paused, and held out her hand. "Meira. I'm Meira Sanzenin of Demeter's Cabin," she added shyly, offering a smile.

The girl answered straight forward, saying "This book." and continued reading. Mumbling words about the seasons and flowers, not paying attention to the guy who spoke. His brows creased together in disappointment, he wanted to help or at least have a decent conversation. But she obviously wasn't in the mood, or was just to focused on her studies. He shrugged and was about to push his chair back to leave when she realized he was there. Now that she noticed him, he realized it might have been easier if she hadn't. But he relaxed on the chair, and was surprised when she bowed and offered him her hand. "Oh.. thats all right. I'm not exactly the most interesting person anyway." He shook her hand, making sure his grip was softer than usual. "Nice to meet you Meira, I'm Scott Aspholt. Son of Hephaestus." He added in a quieter tone, almost a whisper, "I'm surprised they let me in here at all. Last time I was in a library I accidentally lit the books on fire."
Scott leaned forward in his chair and glanced at the page of the book. "Studying up?"

Meira nodded politely, offered a little smile and sat again on her chair. "I'm Meira Sanzenin, daughter of Demeter."
Even though he said the words low, he'd been close enough for Meira to hear. Set the books on fire? Lighter? She scratched her head and a strand of blond hair obscured her view. She tucked them beneath her ear and looked at Scott. "Oh, doesn't matter. Every person is interesting in his own way," she reassured him.
Meira looked back to the book, although she's distracted. Set the books on fire? How the heck? She can't shake the thought out. Her fingers tingled and began folding the edges of the book. She exhaled noisily and the harpy librarian shrieked at her. Meira shot it a dirty glare then glanced at Scott, the son of Hephaestus and blinked.
"Not to be rude," she began slowly. "But how can you set the books on fire?" Meira inclined her head and angled her chair in his direction.

Okay, he brought this upon himself he'll admit. And the harpy seemed to be daring him to do it with her angry little eyes. He raised his eyebrows at Meira, "Promise not to..like...freak out or anything." He raised his hand slightly above the table and willed fire spread through his fingers. In a second, his hand was engulfed in blue flickering flame. He looked over at the harpy, which was turned away from the two. He looked back at his hand and closed his fist, a few ashes were left on his hand as he wiped it on his blue jeans. "Like that."

Meira gulped. She stared at Scott's hands with wide eyes. He's a... he's a... Meira tried to form the word. Think, she thought. Scott is a son of Hephaestus, right? And Hephaestus is the god of forges and and fire. Therefore, Scott is a...
"You're a fire-user!" she suddenly exclaimed, and only later did she realize it was a mistake. She ducked her head as the harpy librarian searched for her. When she thought it was clear, she slowly raised her head and swallowed. "Oh. Yeah, so that's how." Meira nodded, stricken by awed. And all she can do was to control some thorn plants. Yeah, right.

Scott ducked his head a little at her statement. "Um, yeah. That's exactly how." He gave her a crooked smile. "I guess that makes me a bit of a freak of nature." He stole a sideways glance at the harpy that seemed to be eying him warily, like he was going to start her books on fire on purpose.

Meira put on her poker face. Did Scott really think that ability would make him a freak? For Meira, it was a big NO. She was thoroughly amazed with his show. What could be greater than cooking your barbeque in one click of hand? It was epic!
She shook her head and out her hand on her chin. She let a playful smile on her lips and giggled softly.
"No," Meira assured him. "Not a freak of nature. It was amazing, Scott," she added. "But not to be rude, do you have trouble controlling thy power?" Meira grew serious and studied the son of Hephaestus curiously.

Scott shrugged. He's been working on controlling his power almost every day now, and it was getting better. "Sometimes, like when I get surprised or really, really angry it can flare. But it's getting better." He replied, trying to reassure her a little.

"Really?" Meira joked. "You're not angry today, are you?" she asked as she laughed softly and turned her attention back to the botany book. She began reading again, flipping the pages quickly as if she could really understand it. She'll just stop to mesmerize over a photograph, not the text, which was pretty stupid way to study. Meira kept on putting strands of her blond hair behind her ear and found this irritating. She wished she had ponytail with her, but no such luck.
Finally, Meira just closed the book and looked at Scott. "You know, I'm a daughter of Demeter yet I do not find interest in Biology. Strange." It was probably stupid to say, but hey, it was worth saying. She planned on borrowing the book and study it in Cabin 4, but she wanted to stay a little longer in this place--purgatory. Sorry, Library.

Scott chuckled at her words. He decided not to tell her that he had an overwhelming urge to light a Ares camper's hair on fire earlier that day, he thought that just might be a bad idea. So he simply said, "Nah, no anger." He watched her read for about a minute before both he and she got completely bored with her extremelyinteresting Biology book. "It's not really that strange if you consider it. I mean, check out some of the Aphrodite kids. Some of them never wear make-up, hate shopping, and hate dating. It just differs by person I guess." He shrugged.

Meira nodded and began twirling her blond hair and involuntarily smiled. It is impossible to believe. Aphrodite kids not wearing make-up? Really? For all she knew, Cabin 10's campers are all shallow and persons. They all talk about love, love, heartbreaks, crushes, and Meira can't relate to them. Stupids, she'd say.
Well, maybe except for Athan, she thought. But still, she couldn't help but to grin.
"Really? I've never seen one."In the girls, Meira added mentally. "Yeah, maybe, but I guess no one from your siblings are not into forging, right?" she asked, pretty sure Scott would say yes. Well, who wouldn't?
Subject: Re: It doesn't make sense (open) Sun Jun 17, 2012 1:13 pm
Scott had to admit, he'd seen few Aphrodite kids who didn't care about their looks, but they were there. Usually they were more friendly than the others, and the others were...shallow, and pretty much heartless. "Well, a few don't like forging very much. Its mostly girls." He said. He could think of a few siblings who hated who their godly parent was. They couldn't exactly brag to much, Hey guys! My dad is the guy who got pitched off Olympus because he was to ugly, so he stayed underground and works on metal for all eternity! I want to be just like him! Yeah, it didn't exactly work.

Meira's eyes opened wide with shock.
Cabin 9 campers not engaged into forging? Really? She frowned uncertainly. As far as Meira could recall, she had not seen any Hephaestus camper not engaged into forging. Well, that's the blunt term, Meira thought. Okay, engineering. Repairing. Always best at science. Very skilled with screws and drivers.
Yeah. Maybe. Meira had seen Demeter kids with no talent and passion of outdoors. It's possible. In the end of her serious physical and mental workout, the daughter of Demeter grinned.
"Just surprised, that's all. It's possible. But... regarding your hand-dandy ability, is fire users common among Cabin 9?"
Subject: Re: It doesn't make sense (open) Fri Jun 22, 2012 4:58 pm
He was glad he didn't have to point out names or faces to her. Some just were ashamed that they were the offspring of a guy pitched off Olympus and decided to be the least like him in the cabin. He didn't exactly blame them, but it was in their blood. Might as well use their abilities for good instead of being a total "dropout." He rubbed his hand across the back of his neck, "Um, no...fire-users tend to be a bit destructive with our little 'handy-dandy' ability. Like burning down buildings and frying people, stuff like that. So dad likes to keep people like me to a minimum. Though some of my siblings have slight control over fire, like temperature and stuff. But I'm stuck with the curse."
