The sacrifice - Poem

Sitting out on the warm grass,
holding his hand.
Watching the clouds as they pass.
It feels like home.

The rain falls as you wave gooodbye,
The sky inside you turns grey.
He made you a promise but it was a lie.
You are suddenly scared.

Reading about it all over the news,
Crying as his name is called.
His king has been check-mated.
You all lose.

Silent tears streak down, a rose in your hand,
He passes you, wrapped in the union Jack.
You place the flower on top of him, rubbing your bloated stomach.
You whisper "Daddy is finally home."

A girl sits out on the porch,
Holding his dog-tags in your hand.
Her Mother hugs her, saying it will be alright.
Yet the girl feels all alone.

He watches up from the clouds at every acheivment and mistake.
He smiles at every step his daughter takes.
When the time comes, they'll be reunited,
Finay at peace.
