Harper Richard's Grave

Harper's grave is like any other, sitting in the middle of the graveyard. It's short, and made of marble. On it, it says:

Harper Richards

1997-2010

Zan sauntered up to the grave of the siblings she barely knew. It was a little sad that she didn't know who her own siblings was...but Zeus had been busy lately. Literally. Zan wore a pair of black skinny jeans and a black tank top and some black Converse. A mourning outfit. She had her silky black hair pulled back off her face and she bent down and said a prayer to Zeus over the grave. She sent a bunch of black lillies (freshly spray-painted) on the grave.

Magnus typically wasn't one to visit cemeteries. First, his persona was either loud because he was happy or loud because he was furious. Rarely just solemn. Second, he believed that the deceased living on in memory was enough. And understandably, graves put a damper on his mood.
But one late afternoon, Magnus forced himself to go to the Burial Shroud. He had been away from camp, operating as Thunder Hawk for the first two big battles, and he figured he should pay his dues to everyone who didn't make it. He also decided that seeing all those tributes to fallen campers would strengthen his desire to slaughter large numbers of Kronos' minions.
So here he was, walking slowly past the gravestones. His mourning outfit (also the only formal clothing he had at the moment) was a plain black and white business suit that made him look like an FBI agent.
"Only thirteen. Damn," he muttered, glancing at Harper's grave.

Glancing up with tired, weary eyes, Zan noticed a guy who looked alot like her last paroll officer. Only with a better suit. "It happens." Zan said looking at the guy.

"Yeah," Magnus said. "Sucks, though. Can't believe I missed those two fights." Then he kicked himself inside. Idiot. Better make something up that doesn't pass you off as a deserter, 'cause no one can know you're Thunder Hawk.

I was always close to my family, especially my half-siblings. When I discovered that Harper died, there was no hesitation for me to come visit. About five feet away, I caught a glimps of my cabin leader, Roxanne, and my half-brother, Magnus standing in front of a grave. It was most likely Harper's, so I walked up to my siblings. "Another child of Zeus?" I asked, staring at the grave.

"Yeah..." The cabin leader said sorrowfully as she looked at the two kids. She recognized one as a daughter of Zeus but the other as someone she'd seen before. However, she couldn't place it.

She didn't ask you why you missed those fights. Good, Magnus thought. "So, you recognize me Zan? Magnus Starkweather. That guy who supports vigilantes and loves to flip cock a shotgun to flip people off?"

"Why did you miss those two fights?" She asked narrowing her eyes. She hated it when people missed the fights, because they always needed new fighters and Zan had actually gotten shot with an arrow during the chaos.

I stood there silent. I didn't want to intrude, but I agreed with Zan. The number of campers was shortening, and we needed all the help we could get. Although, I decided to listen to Magnus' side, and see what he had to say.

Damn it. Thanked the gods too soon. Magnus thought fast. "My mom, Rachel, she's not only SecDef but on Xe LLC's board of directors. That's a private military company and I work for them in my spare time, FYI. So I head into the city one afternoon, just to see Mom, not to work, and I get tied down by a bunch of counterintelligence and black ops crap for more than a week, because the big movers and shakers in the military-industrial complex are butting heads. It was pointless, but classified as well."

Zan examined his face for lies and she could see it in his eyes. "I don't believe you." She said as a corner of her mouth turned up in a slight smirk. She was good at reading expressions. It was the one thing that she actually liked at Mooraj.

If deceit doesn't work immediately, there's always stonewalling. Magnus shrugged. "Believe it or not Zan, it's the truth. I'm sorry that I wasn't here to fight as well-you think I like standing in a black room listening to politicians and CEOs pontificate? It's not one of my hobbies, but given my family background-the mortal side, mind you-complicated government crap comes up from time to time and I have to sit there and await instructions." He turned back to the gravestone.
