Marcella Rose - Fitzgerald
| Marcella didn't spend an abundance of time in the library, like most would think. She had plenty of books in her room that flowed out of a full wall, but she still didn't have enough reading material. It was one thing to own and read volumes upon volumes of books, but it was another thing to keep reading despite the knowledge you have obtained already. The legacy was a firm believer that one should never stop learning. So she was re-reading Romeo and Juliet.

The last time she had read the Shakespearian play she had been in ninth grade, and it had seemed so stupid. Why would someone trust one they had just met? Love was a stupid thing if you killed yourself over it. Marcella was coming to similar conclusions as she continued to read through the play. Her tone changed, however so slightly, when she came to the scene where Romeo was banished. She paused. His loyalties were being questioned. Who was one supposed to be loyal to? To himself? To his family? His prince? To Juliet? She shook her head and shut the book. That was enough for now.

The sun was shining outside, streaming through the library's large windows, and filled the room with a pleasant warmth. The air conditioning was still going, though, making up for the silence that normally wove around the atmosphere. Marcella continued to observe her surroundings, her gaze catching on a boy. He looked about her age, taller of course, but her age. She continued to look at him, her eyebrows nearing each other. Marcella didn't recognize him, which was odd. She had been at camp for several years and more summers; she knew nearly everyone. The demigod wouldn't care, but there was something odd about the guy, and she was determined to find out what it might be.

Standing up, Marcella silently stretched out her muscles and set down the play. She smoothed her floral skirt and blouse before walking over to the boy. Tapping his shoulder she asked, "Are you alright?" Marcella let out a loose laugh. "You look a little lost."

Tobias lets out a frustrated sigh as he scans his eyes over the shelf in front of him. He's spent most of his time in camp in the library, and he's starting to run out of books to read. Granted he hasn't come close to reading the contents of the library, but his list of forty or fifty books has dwindled down to about three and he's attempting to find more that he might add to it. The only trouble is, a lot of the books not on his list don't interest him.

Divergent? The Hunger Games? These books sound absolutely awful, the titles are morbid almost. Why can't there be more books like The Catcher in the Rye or To Kill A Mockingbird? Basically good, classic literature. Giving up on finding new books, he pulls a crumpled list out of his pocket and begins to unfold it. Looking down at the bottom he searches for the few remaining titles on his list. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitgerald, he remembers that he was supposed to read the book in school but he never got around to doing it. Now is just as good of time to read it as any.

Tucking his list back into his pocket, he leaves the aisle and heads towards the location of the book. He scans his eyes over the shelves, searching for the title. He's completely unaware of someone approaching him until he hears the girls voice. Flinching, Tobias mutters a swear word under his breath as he turns around. His eyes narrowed he looks at the girl, "I'm fine"he mumbles as he turns around.

Ignoring the girl, he resumes his search. Who does she think she is? Coming up to him, and asking if he's alright? Of course he's not alright! It's 2015! He should be forty-four, not eighteen. But the girl doesn't need to know that, hopefully she'll just leave him alone. That would be ideal, he doesn't feel like talking. Finally, he locates the battered and torn copy of the book and pulls it off the shelf. Brushing past the girl he makes his way to one of the old, cracked leather arm chairs and sits down. Opening the book he lets out another sigh as he begins to read.

Marcella Rose - Fitzgerald
| It was late afternoon, but still early enough for demigods to continue training. She had heard them while reading through the play, grunts and orders had echoed through the camp. They still were echoing now that the dew was beginning to set. Marcella could see the condensation on the window panes that surrounded the library. The water droplets dripped and merged together. Really the building needed to be thought out again; the air circulation was not that stellar. One could see it on the way some of the windows sagged to one side. It was a shame, really.

The damp smell in the building was probably a result of said air circulation, but it was comforting. The mixture of air conditioner scent, must and old books was homey. Marcella found it familiar and comforting, more so than the smell of her actual home. Here was where knowledge and discovery were possible, while home implied lost hopes and harsh memories. After shutting the book Marcella set out to return it to its home, while observing that odd boy. He was really starting to bother her; why didn't she know who he was? Demigods came to camp every other week, but she kept up with their arrivals. How had see slipped under her radar?

So she spoke to him, and he barely noticed her. His rude reply made her eyes narrow, but she said nothing. Marcella noted that he definitely was not fine, despite what he said. The legacy's eyes followed him as he grabbed one of the Great Gatsby's and left. She smirked for a second, then resumed her face to a neutral expression. Marcella loved the  Great Gatbsy; this boy was going to hold a conversation with her if it killed her.

She spun back around once he had taken a seat, quickly sliding into the armchair adjacent him. "You must not have dyslexia that bad, then?" Marcella asked, crossing her legs. "Some people just chose not to read because of it, you know," she added.  Faking a glance at the book's cover, she commented, "Oh, Gatsby. Have you read it before?"

Tobias curls up in the chair, his legs dangling over the arm of the chair. The book open across his lap as he reads it. Unlike most demigods, his dyslexia is minor and reading is not difficult for him. Hence why he's been spending time reading, it's easy. And also it's the one thing that's normal to him.

He's sure he's managed to get rid of the girl, most people give up once someone's rude to them. He's figured that out with plenty of practice, and he's grown fond of it. He hates interacting with people, for a few reasons. For starters people nowadays are just plain weird, and it's somewhat frightening to see what they're willing to do and hear what they have to say. No one used to say stuff like that, and he doesn't get why they're willing to do it now. And he certainly does not want to hear it, he'd much rather just not deal with them at all. The only person who he feels comfortable around is Tabitha, and even then he's avoiding her.

Letting out a small sigh, he once more focuses on the book. It's an interesting story so far, it hasn't caught his attention yet but he's sure it will the writing is wonderful. He's already a fan of the character Nick Carraway. He's aware of the girl sitting down in the chair next to him, but he chooses to ignore her. When will she just give up? It's starting to get rather annoying, he'd much rather be left alone.

Letting out another sigh, he closes the book and places it in his lap as he sits up to look at the girl, his eyes narrowing. "Obviously- it's not like I'm clearly reading or anything"he sarcastically retorts. "You do realize that most people don't come to the library to make friends, right?"he asks her, trying his best to display a form of concern. He's aware that he's being an asshole but he's mad. "No"he replies as he once more opens the book and begins to read.

Marcella Rose - Fitzgerald
| Marcella liked watching people. She enjoyed trying to understand the motives behind the actions of others. Why did President Harry Truman authorize dropping the atomic bombs on Japan? How could members of the Nazi party create concentration camps, knowing the effects they would have? Humans could be cruel and carless, but they could also be inventive and kind. The demigod had seen such variety in her life it invoked a desire in her to figure everything out. So, she observed people. This boy was just one of her subjects, only she couldn't get a clear read on him.

If curiosity could kill, Marcella would've been dead a long time ago. She could tell the guy didn't like her, or maybe he just didn't like humans at all. Either way, it only made her more determined to figure out what his deal was. His body position implied he didn't care about the welfare of the chair, that must've gone for her too, because he seemed to pretend that Marcella wasn't there. It bothered her, but she kept a smile on her face and a skip in her step as she took a seat near him.

Twirling a strand of her flaming hair with one hand, she tried to remember the beginning to the Great Gatsby. She recalled adoring the book - as it questioned morality and the American Dream - but couldn't quite place the entire plot in chronological order. She smirked as he sighed for the second time and sat up. The teenager mirrored his actions, sitting taller in her cushioned chair. "Obviously," Marcella agreed, injecting a similar amount of sarcasm into her voice.

She continued to watch and listen to him, letting out a laugh once he had stopped speaking. "No shit," the demigod responded, raising an eyebrow at him. "But most guys don't come into the library to read about a bunch of rich people in the nineteen twenties either," Marcella reasoned with a shrug.

Tobias closes his book and places it on the table between them as he turns to look at the girl."There's a reason I'm the only guy who comes hear to read"he explains, "And it mainly has to do with being able to avoid everything"he admits as he lets out a small sigh. With that Tobias sinks back into the arm chair, his gaze dropping towards the ground. Although he really didn't give anything away, he's having a hard time believing that he told the girl that much. He's not a social person, and he certainly doesn't talk about his problems. Even Tabitha has no idea what's going on inside his head.

Which brings up another question, why did he tell her? This girl hasn't left him alone since he stepped foot in the library, and up until a few minutes ago it was driving him crazy. But now all the sudden he doesn't seem to mind it, perhaps this is a sign. Maybe he should tell her everything that's going on. Or would that be weird? It would probably be weird. Maybe he's supposed to become friends with her, and work up to the point of where he's able to tell her. He's not sure, but he'd like to see. He knows that most people at camp aren't from other decades, but he's pretty sure he's not the most out of place. So if he were to tell her she'd probably laugh, it's not like it's been that many years. But to Tobias, his entire life has completely changed. It's two thousand and fifteen and he's still eighteen, he should be in his forties and married and have kids. But instead he's sitting here.

Squeezing his hands together, Tobias looks up at the girl. "I'm sorry that I was rude to you"he says quietly, "It's just I'm not a huge fan of talking"he explains as he lets out another small sigh. "My name is Tobias, and you are?"he asks her as he allows a faint smile to appear on his face, his own way of saying he's sorry. He's expecting the girl to hit him or yell at him, and honestly he deserves it for being such an ass. He then slumps back into his chair as he continues to watch the girl.

Now that he's decided to talk to her, he's taking the time to observe her. She's dressed exactly like every other girl he's seen here, and it's sort of off putting. All of the girls seem to care so much about their appearance that they will wear completely impractical clothing just to impress people, something he will never understand. But it's most likely something that no one will ever understand if he's honest, although he could understand if he gives in and gets to know her. He should get to know her, she can be the one exception. The one person who he gets to know, who maybe might be able to explain things to him.

[[Sorry this took so long, I had finals. But now it's summer which means more time to post.]]

Marcella Rose - Fitzgerald
| Marcella remembered reading somewhere that by swearing in front of someone, you gained a small portion of their trust. Or something like that. It didn't work if you swore all the time, obviously, but if you took someone who hardly opened their mouths for something so unintelligent, like Marcella, and had them swear in front of someone else, the two would grow a little closer. She knew that it worked best in parent - offspring scenarios, or best friend incidents, but it would probably work with complete strangers too. If for no other reason, she swore because she was 'agitated' (which she wasn't, but one must always carry excuses). Those who knew the legacy knew that she hardly ever  spoke profanities, even among her closest accomplices. The boy, whose name she still didn't know, was now apart of a rare group of selected few who had heard the great Marcella Rose-Fitzgerald swear out loud.

Her eyes watched his hands as he shut the Great Gatsby and placed it on a table. She tried to hide her smirk; her strategy must have worked. Uncrossing her legs - instead crossing her ankles - she leaned a little forward as she awaited what he would say. The confession, while unprecedented, was relieving to the teenager. He was opening up to her, slowly but surely. Marcella let the silence hang for a moment, deciding not to speak again as he opened his mouth to say something else. She hadn't expected an apology. "It's alright," the legacy said with a sweet smile. "These days people hardly ever stop talking; it's understandable that you would want to avoid it altogether," she added. Although Marcella didn't really understand the boy's silence. Silence achieved nothing, while questioning and discovery led to improvement.

"I'm Marcella Rose-Fitzgerald," she replied with another smile. Tobias seemed tired, she noticed. Not just the 'oh gods I need to sleep' kind of tired, but a chronic kind of tired that followed you around until you died. The expression was vaguely familiar, as it was the feeling Marcella had the month after her mother's passing. She felt like nothing could move forward, time had ticked by only to annoy her. She studied him for a moment longer, finding that he was doing the same to her. The corners of her lips curved as she said, "The red hair comes from my dad's side." Her hair was one of the few things she had inherited from her father. That and her artistic talent, but she didn't use it enough to be considered any good. "You seem tired. Get much sleep?" she asked curiously.

Tobias is still slightly annoyed, but he's slowly starting to loosen up. He really should give this girl a chance, she seems a lot better than most of the people at this camp. She's honestly not that bad, her persistent attitude is actually rather nice. Of course it's not a trait he'd want everyone to have, but the fact that she seemed determined to get him to speak is oddly comforting. "It's awful"he says with a laugh, "No one knows when to shut up and it drives me crazy"he continues as he shifts in his seat so he's able to face the girl.

For the first time since he's stepped foot in the library, a small smile is beginning to spread across Tobias's face. He hasn't smiled for ages, he's almost forgotten what it's like. With the events that have gone on lately, there hasn't been a lot that's made him smile just a few small things here and there like finding a gameboy, a Journey poster, things like that. But this conversation, it's actually making him happy. Mainly because they aren't talking about things he doesn't understand, he can keep up with the conversation without being confused.

Tobias can't help but laugh as the girl introduces herself using her full name,"Well it's nice to meet you Marcella Rose-Fitzgerald"he says to her. He nods along to her explanation of the red hair, not sure if he's supposed to answer? He's not really interested by that type of thing. However because she brought it up, he's finding himself studying her hair. It's actually a very beautiful color, and it's extremely pretty especially on a girl with her looks.

Blinking Tobias looks over at her, "I got some sleep"he says quietly, "But I could use more"he adds as he runs his fingers through his hair. "It's hard to get sleep anymore. People are always talking or doing something that's distracting"he says quietly as he narrows his eyes, "Then there's the people who watch television before bed, which is absolutely ridicoulous"he says with a laugh. "But I'm not going to tell you all about how I get distracted at night"he laughs as he looks at her once more. "So Marcella Rose-Fitzgerald, tell me about yourself"he says to the girl.

Marcella Rose - Fitzgerald
| Marcella had experienced several kinds of people throughout her lifetime. There were in the unintelligent mongrels who were stuck in their stubborn ways, the dreamy revisers who spent their days identifying the world's flaws, or the power hungry saps who would do anything to have life work in their favor. Everyone was different, and while the teenager didn't like categorizing people, she did. She was persistently stubborn in the sense that she placed others in mental cages when she met them; if you asked her about herself she would simply say that she didn't fit anywhere. However, the legacy was having a hard time placing Tobias in a category. At first Marce assumed him to be quiet and independent, but she wasn't sure - there was something about him that just didn't fit into one of her many, preset molds.

Her smile continued as he spoke. Marcella nodded in agreement; silence was a rare commodity in modern times. People were constantly busy whether it be talking or getting tasks done. She wasn't sure if liked how she lived, but it was hard imagining life any other way. No matter how hard you studied the past, you can't actually revive it. "Right? Everyone is always moving now days. Nothing ever slows down." The legacy noticed the smile working its way onto Tobias's face. While she hadn't known him for more than ten minutes, she had the feeing he hardly smiled. Marcella smiled all the time, but they were rarely real. Life was getting to that point, where you faked emotions until you actually felt them.

Marcella had always introduced herself with her full name. She didn't really know why, but she assumed it had something to do with the pride she felt for her dead mother. Fitzgerald was her mother's surname, and she would hate to leave her mother out of her life, even if it was just a title. "What's your full name?" the teenager asked curiously, her eyebrow raising. Maybe she could place him if she heard his entire name. After Marcella had discussed her hair she felt his eyes on her again and tried to keep her smirk contained. She guessed he would double check her hair after she brought it up.

She set her hands in her lap as Tobias continued to speak. Her eyes narrowed a bit as confusion washed over her. Television. He said television, not TV. Marcella might have been overanalyzing the situation, but the his wording was odd. "Me?" she asked with a chuckle. "Well, both of my parents were demigods, so that makes me a legacy. I have an older brother who's in college. I've been here for like... three years and a few summers?" Marcella shrugged. "What about you?"
